You know, those desolate sand costumes really reminded me that I really want to see MC outfits released representing different villages. Where is my Sunagakure Breeze Dancer… I need her so bad…
I’m not sure if you’ve gotten a question like this or not, but what villages would you assign all of the MCs outside of Konaha? I personally think there’s room to mix and match depending on what skills you equip your MCs with. Just wanna hear your thoughts!
I love this question, and for real, Suna Breeze would be so cool and even current canon-adjacent. I must say I haven't thought about this before, which is why it took me so long to answer. I had to re-read the wiki to see if I could come up with anything. It's long so I'm putting the answers under the [read more]!
Tumblr media
The easiest answer based on their main and/or secondary elements would be: Azure - Kirigakure, Breeze - Sunagakure, Crimson - Iwagakure, Midnight - Kumogakure, and Scarlet (secondary Earth element) - Iwagakure. I remember some fanworks implementing this system (while Scarlet was usually left to be from Konoha), and always enjoyed the chaos following having so many differently raised teenagers interact with each other.
The other answer would be a mix of Orichara-era choices and some canon? In the cases of Azure and Breeze who were listed as from Konoha I had to find other hints to follow - for Azure it was her main work material, for Breeze her powers and origin. In the cases of Crimson (suspected Orichara origin, beta design) and Midnight I worked with their beta designs.
Azure from Kusagakure - (through Orichara) associated with cotton, she's listed as also preferring to use genjutsu. She is portrayed as rather kind and cheery, thus the choice from a less violence-prone village. Being from Kusa also makes her an ally to Konoha and possibly supplies her main material of choice.
Breeze from Kirigakure - Orichara gave her water/ice powers (based on her Tsurara (yōkai) origin - it's actually super interesting to see where most of her traits started off from) and so Kiri (thinking back to Haku's powers) seems like a decent match.
Crimson from Iwagakure - the suspected Orichara paints Crimson as an apprentice of an architect master. That combined with the contrast between their ages (16 vs 92) somewhat brings up an image of an Iwagakure shinobi (I'm thinking here of the Akatsuchi and Ōnoki team up). On the other hand, based on his beta design, Crimson's clothes (color palette, style) and appearance pretty much align with Kumogakure's. I like how he was given a more serious air, with his neutral expression and a scar over his left eye.
Midnight from Kumogakure - his old sword looks somewhat like Darui's Cleaver Sword (and in one of the images you could also argue that he looks a bit like him?). It's also interesting to note just how consistent his design is with the lightning element. My second pick would be Kirigakure since the sword loosely matches the village's weapon designs. Midnight also has his Bloodthirsty Demon skill, which plays well with his bounty hunter profession if taken in the context of “death matches for Kirigakure Academy graduation”.
Scarlet from Amegakure - another Orichara choice, and a peculiar one with him defecting. I like this pitch because despite being from Ame (which does suit his later-given genjutsu abilities), his main element is wind (also uses water and earth releases). He's also described as longing to join the Akatsuki, how interesting.
And then the synthesis of the above mixed with just some fun choices and other biased canon picks for my maximum enjoyment:
Azure from Kirigakure - a kind character from an infamously not kind land; I really like thinking of Azure as kind despite the circumstances, as in making her caring and curious personality an active choice instead of sth that just happens to her. She is also known for loving fish (fish dishes?), and after skimming through "ideal conditions for growing cotton" maps the choice (baring Konoha) was between Suna and Kiri, so... I'm making this list alphabetically, but this choice is also fuelled by the interest in seeing the contrast between how she turned out vs Midnight.
Breeze from Sunagakure turned Otogakure and defecting (and going back to Suna?) - see, I'm such a ride or die for the headcanon that Breeze did work with Orochimaru at some point in her life (whether voluntarily is a different matter but I do like all answers to this). It makes her traveling the world thing have more flavor, and her ending up in canon in Konoha is also soo conflict-inducing. This way, her strong personality and intelligence would be crucial to her forming alliances. Also after so many changes, I think her canon judgment of good and evil is sth quite worthy of careful dissection.
Crimson from Land of Flowers - he is so incredibly kind and loves plant cultivation. Since Land of Flowers was caught in conflict with Iwagakure and saved by Kumogakure it also puts Crimson in a nice intersection of possible skills and appearances (his darker skin is similar in appearance to other Kumo shinobi, his earth release skills - Iwa's, his drive and need to protect others born from the conflict?). But generally I just really love the image of Crimson cultivating flowers ;w;
Midnight from Kirigakure - I like it when someone's main elemental release doesn't match the Village's majority and Midnight's bloodlust and skills are more compelling to me than his other traits, I guess. The fact that Village of the Bloody Mist's reputation would line up well with his personality of a loner and not much of a talker is also fun. There are also some thoughts on how lightning powers would be amplified by an environment rich in water.
Scarlet from Ame (defected) - the whole setup made from Orichara is just so good. It gives him a motive, gives him freedom (something he seems to be struggling with a lot in canon - loyalty vs personal beliefs), and so many directions to grow into. And I love how he's good with drawing and scrolls, and how it's probably the happiest and (arguably) least burdened Scarlet we've ever seen (he's described as having many interests and being able to solve conflicts with his smile).

Deidara, Art, and how our environment and culture shapes us
Pretentious-fuck title, I know. But it's really the best way to describe these thoughts I'm having. While working on this DeiKonan Yakuza AU, I've been doing some research on Iwa and Ōnoki, and that's the moment it really clicked for me why Deidara considers explosions art.
So the whole belief intrinsic to Iwa is the Will of Stone - the resolve to endure and be steadfast. They value permanency and stability. No wonder Deidara doesn't find things that last forever beautiful - he grew up surrounded by rocks. They will weather and crumble eventually, sure, but within a human lifespan, they pretty much stay the same. That's not beauty, and that's nothing unique - that's just the way the world is.
No wonder he's fascinated by explosions and explosives. These are things that can take something which is meant to last years - a fucking rock - and completely destroy it in the space of a second. All that eternity, gone in a second. When I think of it that way, explosions look pretty damn beautiful to me too. It's like the biggest "fuck you" to the Mother Nature Deidara grew up with.
And it kind of explains why Sasori and Deidara got along so well too. Because Sasori was a rebel too. He valued eternity, which was the opposite of what he grew up with - a desert shaped of shifting sands, where nothing ever stands still.
They may have had opposite views on art, sure. But ultimately, they were both men who just wanted the opposite of what they grew up with. They both found beauty in what just didn't exist - couldn't exist, even - in their environments, and I think that perhaps they recognized a kindred spirit in each other, even if that ultimately took different forms for them both.
I have no idea if this is just something that everyone's realized already, and I'm the one that's late to the party haha. But I think it's pretty neat.

What is Madara's Hair care routine?
Tumblr media
ohh this man 100% has a haircare routine based on a weekly rotation!
* Washes his hair every single day. Not a fan of the oil buildup or sweaty scalp after training bc it gets itchy and ugly.
* Lukewarm water enjoyer. Cold water closes the follicles and hot water causes split ends, so lukewarm water is ideal for showering and washing his hair.
* Does some sort of hydration treatment with camellia oil about twice a week to keep his hair shiny and silky.
* Brushes his hair multiple times a day, probably a black pig fur or bamboo hairbrush! Good for spreading the natural oils of hair evenly.
* At night, he either braids his hair or does some sort of protective hairstyle to avoid it from tangling and getting damaged.
Overall, he takes a lot of care of his hair but definitely has to ditch all his routines when in battles or long missions which makes him grumpy. Imagine the sole reason for Madara snapping with Ōnoki being something like "I didn't bring my hair oil", hilarious. 1000/10 haircare routine we stan a hygienic king.
I base this off a mixture between Heian and Edo period traditional hair care. Long, straight, silky black hair has always been a beauty symbol in Japan. Sadly, there isn't much info on hair care for the IRL Sengoku period so yeah I just use two of the most culturally rich periods of Japan as reference.

For: Open | Can specify if asked Part: 2 | Naruto Shippuden Verse: Wandering Medic
The silver haired young woman was leaning against the wall, hidden rather effectively in the shadows there. She was wearing her jounin uniform, neutral green-grey with Ryū written on the back of her sleeveless jacket and her Firesword hitai-ate was tied around her right shoulder. Few had seen the former leaf kunoichi since she had left after the disastrous Chuunin Exams in Konoha.
But a lack of sightings didn't mean that she had vanished off the face of the world. The Firesword Clan were known for their ability to hide and recent years had seen a rise in shinobi wearing hitai-ates with 龍 replacing the normal village symbol. Yet very few actually knew where to find the Clan grounds- or the Clan for that matter. Although it was quite obvious that someone knew how to find them.
'Why am I even here?'
It was a question that she had asked the Tsuchikage as they travelled to the Land of Iron but got no answer. There were many places the Firesword Clan Head had expected to visit that week; the Five Kage Summit however? That wasn't one of them. Yet here she was, making it like Ōnoki had only brought one guard to the Summit.
Only Mifune and the Fourth Raikage were aware of her presence, a fact that Ami was glad about. Mostly because she was wary of the Sixth Hokage Candidate trying to make her return to Konoha, despite not being one of their kunoichi anymore.

Full Name: Deidara Katsu. Nickname/Alias: Brat/Little Shit (Sasori), Blondie/Girlie/Barbie (Akatsuki), Angel of Dust (alias). Gender: Male. (afab) Sexual Orientation: Gay. Age: 19 - Mid-30's. Birthday: May 5th. Birthplace: Iwagakure. Family: Unnamed Mother (Deceased), Unnamed Father (Deceased), Onoki (Grandfather), Kurotsuchi (Cousin).
Tumblr media
Deidara was the son of unknown parents; his father was a member of the Katsu clan, and his mother was the eldest daughter of Third Tsuchikage, Kamizuru Ōnoki. After Deidara's father died in the Third World War, his grieving mother committed suicide, and it was from her corpse Deidara was born prematurely.
Due to the failed 1000-man march on Konoha wiping out the Katsu clan, Ōnoki was left to take care of his new grandson. However, Ōnoki disliked Deidara from the very beginning, blaming him and his father for the death of his dearest daughter. As a result, Deidara was neglected and abused throughout his childhood by Ōnoki, doing things such as leaving grandson to take care of himself at a very young age. Ōnoki also often compared Deidara to Kurotsuchi, which caused Deidara to develop a spitefulness towards his cousin.
Once a pre-teen, Deidara was tired of his treatment by his grandfather and Iwagakure as a whole, so he attempted to assassinate Ōnoki by taking out the Tsuchikage Tower and much of Iwa with it. However, it failed, and he fled Iwagakure, becoming a missing nin. He offered his services as a bomber to insurgents in various countries before begrudgingly joining the Akatsuki.
Tumblr media
While in the Akatsuki, Deidara was partnered with Sasori. In the beginning, it was a toxic partnership, with the two fighting frequently, physically and verbally. While Sasori was accepting of Deidara's identity, they frequently argued over the nature of true art. In spite of this, Deidara wasn't above goading his partner. Later on, they got past their differences and developed a healthier and even sexual relationship with one another.
When Sasori was incapacitated after his fight with his grandmother, Chiyo, and Haruno Sakura, Deidara was paired with Tobi in what was intended to be a brief partnership. The idiotic front Tobi put up greatly irritated him. But in battle, Deidara put his issues with Tobi aside to work well with him, telling him to get away when he was about to make a more dangerous attack. Towards the end of their partnership, Deidara even considered Tobi a friend, so he was very disappointed and hurt when he learned of Tobi's true identity as Uchiha Obito.
After Kakuzu and Hidan died, Deidara noticed the Akatsuki was beginning to fall apart and had no intention of going down with the organization. So, he schemed to fake his death and used a fight with Uchiha Sasuke as the perfect out. Also, an opportunity to prove his art superior to the Sharingan.
During his battle with Sasuke, Deidara swapped with a clay clone who used his C0 technique to kill "himself" and Sasuke. Afterwards, Deidara met with Sasori, who intended to leave the Akatsuki, too, and the two partners disappeared without a trace.
Tumblr media
Years later, Deidara is still travelling with Sasori as the two work on perfecting their art. However, they often break off to travel on their own for weeks to months at a time. Deidara has succeeded in training his Kekkei Genkai enough to be on par with Sasori's ability, mastering both close-range and long-range combat.
With newfound mastery over his Kekkei Genkai, he has earned the moniker of the 'Angel of Dust.' His explosive chakra grants him the power to vapourize anything he touches, be it man or otherwise.

Was shit? Was shit? That was the understatement of the year--no, the millennium!
How Ōnoki treated him--his own grandson--was downright cruelty; blaming an innocent baby for the sins of his father and mother. Nothing he ever did would make a difference in his grandfather's opinion of him either. Hell, Deidara could've solved world hunger and that old bastard would still think ill of him. If Ōnoki hadn't been Tsuchikage, his treatment of his grandson would've been criticized a long, long time ago. Instead, everyone drew a blind eye to it, even his own cousin who insisted on loving him so much to call him a brother.
"Why? Because I left you to deal with that old bastard all by yourself, hn?" Deidara uttered, his lips twitching with the faintest of smirks. It was as much a jest as it was serious.
While Ōnoki had expected nothing from Deidara, he had expected everything from Kurotsuchi. He had built them up into being his heir since day one. It wasn't just favourtism but impossible expectations too. While Deidara may've loathed being the black sheep, he preferred it over being the golden child any day. How Kurotsuchi didn't also snap and try to murder their grandfather, he may never know.
It was a strength Deidara quietly envied. If he had had just an ounce of the fortitude Kurotsuchi had, he may've not done what he did. Left him questioning what the hell his life would look like at the moment; still in Iwa and not selling his explosives on the black market because this era of "peace" had begrudgingly retired him from his days of terrorism.
@kuro-no-tsuchikage
@gunpowdergelatine-katsu continued from here
Seeing their surrogate brother cousin again was strange, if Kurotsuchi were being honest; being almost eye-level with him stranger still. A great many things had happened between their last meeting and the present day, most importantly that the younger shinobi was – as the blond hadn’t hesitated to point out – now Tsuchikage in their own right, and that they were a full gown adult instead of a child. The war, and then being expected to lead Iwa into a new era almost immediately after, had tempered them into quiet strength… but Deidara could always get under their skin with just a few words. Shoulders tensing a bit, they swallowed their immediate response, and kept their expression even.
The second thing they said, though, was a testament of two things; one, that they truly had grown up, and two, that (despite their best efforts) they never stopped thinking about him. “The way the old man and everyone else treated you was shit.” Blunt and honest, though not unkind; they’d had their own issues – crushing expectations of perfection; also being motherless; also quote-unquote “rejecting” their birth sex – but it had never made Kurotsuchi cruel to him. “The way you left was fucked up, but I’m not surprised you did.” They didn’t say, You won’t go back in the Bingo Book. They didn’t say, I didn’t put you there, either. And they most certainly didn’t say, I missed you.
Tumblr media
It wouldn’t surprise them to take what they didn’t say to the grave.

The Path Out of Peking
Summary:
Being an ambassador is always a risky venture.
(It's not a job for the fainthearted.)
Shisui's story.
Takes place in 1900.
Tumblr media
Rating: Explicit for violence Fandom: Naruto Relationship: Gen, background f/m and m/m Word Count: approximately 10K (Complete and posts one chapter daily)
Sparked by research rather than anyone in particular, though many thanks go to @greencuttingmat who suggested that I write both stories when I was debating between telling Shisui’s story or Shizune’s story for this particular incident in history. The story is also for @dawen who encouraged me to add more snark.
Akira walks back from the telegraph office, dodging the other people on the street.
Utterly unlike the paved streets of Konoha, and littered with the droppings of animals, it makes him miss home fiercely.
Oh, for the enormous trees and the freedom to run through them! For the mountain that can be climbed! For the fires which warm the heart and mind... how he wishes to be in the village once more, celebrating the new year with his family, far from this place of drought and danger.
But that is not his role.
Here in Peking is where Konoha needs him to be, and here is where he must stay until his work is done, he and his family both.
