I love the Land vs Air OVA with all my heart but i'm so upset that they cut most of Tora's arc from the manga. Obviousy he and Tanaka have very similar storylines with both of them being taunted by the other team/doubted as the ace but Tora's comes from the interesting perspective of the ace on a team known for it's defense. Nekoma is typically seen by their opponents as more of a unit than individual players so Tora already doesn't stand out as much as other aces. Then there's the added pressure of him being one of the few second-year aces in the series. He's got a lot to prove and playing against a tricky team like Nohebi is a great way to put that to the test.

At one point he gets overshadowed by Lev, who definetly aligns with what an ace is expected to be. He's taller, his reach is insane, his spikes are strong (when they actually make it over the net lol), and he stands out to the crowd. Then Nohebi starts targeting Tora with serves and he gets even less chances to hit. But instead of being spiteful towards Lev or falling for Nohebi's provocations Tora knows that getting the ball up is just as important as scoring points.

Even on a team like Nekoma where everyone's a fantastic reciever Tora's really kills it! He's super consistent with good aim, and when your setter's as picky as Kenma that's important. Also he's good with both underhand and overhand recieves Again, it's a similar situation to Tanaka's arc with the other team aiming their serves at him to break his spirit but I think it has it's own charm. One thing I like about Tora in general is that he's always shown a lot of admiration for recieving even if it's not the flashiest skill on the court. Think the first-year flashback when one of the first things he did was admire Yaku's perfect A-pass. Guess that's par for the course for any Nekoma player.

Then there's the moment where he bumps Lev's failed blocked and immediately goes in for the spike, AND HE LANDS IT. After all his patience he finally gets to redeem himself ughhh.

Overall I love how these few chapters show that there's more to being an ace than amazing spikes. It's consistency, it's being an amazing all-around player, it's being a reliable teammate and coming back strong when your underclassmen need you. This mini arc is a great showcase of Tora's mental fortitude— despite his looks and short-temper he's great under pressure.

This whole page is golden. From Akane's adorable little reaction to the Kenma/Tora high five to Tora immediately ruining the moment. He's so annoying.

So I got Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen volume 5 ahead of its release next week Tuesday and..... WILLOWGRAPE WINE, BABY!!

IT TOOK FIVE VOLUMES, but finally! No more games about it not being wine! 🍾❤️🎉 (although I do appreciate the Loop Chalice description correction in vol 3)

And Kodansha USA, I will be right here, ready and waiting for a reprint of Volume 1 (and vol 2) with the word 'wine' rightfully placed back in the text for chapter 10 and chapter 17. (and also put Olruggio's name back in Qifrey's mouth for chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, and fix everything wrong in ch 10. And ch 15 too: it's Qifrey Olruggio is secretly celebrating, not the atelier. I'll rebuy vol 3 if you correct chapter 30's ending too: After all, they're finally living under the same roof! Their queercoding cannot be hidden behind bland text so why fight it! Embrace it!!)

Anyway aside from this great improvement of actually calling the wine *-wine-*, Volume 5 is an absolute delight in both the chapters and the translation. I was also really curious how they would translate the 'parent and child' turnips, and, oh god, it's better than I thought it could be: daddy and pup Turnipups 😭💖

my mom read my copy of Our Dining Table and she brings back onigiri after visiting Lola and told my brother about using a donabe. Is this what being loved feels like

There is a teenage boy who loves science, and read up as much as he could about any scientific topic. There is a young girl who needs glasses and doesn't know it and feels useless.

The boy assures the girl that nothing is wrong with her, and it's easily fixed, and he knows how to help. He and his friends work to gather the materials to make glass, and spend all night making it.

He tests each lens with her, making sure they help her see as clearly as possible. Once he's done, he puts the lenses in the frame, and he and his friend bring the little girl on a walk.

He takes her to a sunflower field, and asks her what she sees. She says sunflowers, and that she's not so blind she can't see anything at all. He puts the glasses on her, and the first thing she sees in total clarity is a beautiful, blooming sunflower.

The world is so clear for her for the first time ever. She looks at the boy and his friend that helped her so, and her vision grows blurry again, but this time, from tears.

I could talk about this scene for ages. The significance of Akutagawa appearing in Atsushi’s mind after Francis, when the fight with the Guild was when Akutagawa told Atsushi that the words of his past have no hold on him anymore, the way the vision of Akutagawa is literally doing that now, showing up and telling Atsushi to ignore that and move forward
