anonymous send in: When you write, do you prefer if other students refer to him as Nagito or proper title like Komaeda-san?

i'm not too fussed about it — i use last names in my replies because it's what i've grown accustomed too. and i write komaeda using -kun for boys and -san for girls like he does in canon. i know a lot of the english-speaking fandom just jumps onto the first name train, because that's how they localized it officially, but i just have a soft spot in my heart for the ways you can address others in japanese and how it can either reflect your relationship with someone or say something about you as a person.

i’d say i don't have a particular preference towards -san being used to address komaeda, but rather i get excited when characters call him what they would in japanese. for example, hinata uses no honorifics and refers to people by last name only during the game. tsumiki uses lastname-san for everone. chiaki uses -san for girls and -kun for boys, same way komaeda does.

(there's also some fun ways other characters refer to folks in game. in drv3 ouma refers to everyone as lastname-chan, angie is the only character in the franchise who uses exclusively first names i'm p sure, in dr1 hifumi uses full name-domo (like naegi makoto-domo, i believe), hagakure uses lastname-chi, ishimaru uses -kun for everyone (girls too, which is rare), gundham and genocider uses some weirdass names for everyone that change a lot iirc)

it's super fun. highly recommend looking into it. these aren't always consistent, just mostly. sometimes people will get nicknames (ouma calling k1-b0 "kibaby") or honorifics will be dropped for some reason (kirigiri dropping the -kun when talking to naegi in moments she's looking down on him), or change to show a growing/changing bond (momota starting to call saihara by shuichi after they first training session, stopping after ch4, then continuing again when they made up).

i don't expect everyone to be as into this as me but man as someone who loves this language i get excited when people make use of details like that.

Mb y'all!! I'm currently working on a cosplay rn, so I kinda had to take drawing time and use it for cosplay time. (If y'all were curious) The cosplay is going to be the one and only Oliver Swift! Once I get to a good spot on the cosplay, I'll start lookin at asks again(don't wanna get burn out workin on two things!). I did draw uh one little thing, y'all can ask to see it if you wanna see it I guess.
