"remind me again as to why i decided to become a doctor rather than an actor? i could be laying on a beach in caicos right now." instead, he was in a hospital, finishing two back to back surgeries. a knee replacement followed by acl reconstruction. "it's definitely not the coffee." he says as he pours himself a cup from the pot in the break room. as he takes a sip, his face screws up in what can only be described as disgust. "yep. definitely not that." // @torturedmuses

Matilda the Musical
Movies watched in 2022
Matilda the Musical (2022, UK/USA)
Director: Matthew Warchus
Writer: Dennis Kelly (and songs by Tim Minchin)
Mini-review:
I'm not gonna lie, there are few musical movies I haven't enjoyed, so I knew I was going to like this from the beginning, more so considering I used to love the first Matilda movie as a child. This one is well made and it really captures everything that makes this story special. It also changes up just the right amount of things, so it still holds some surprises for people who are familiar with the older movie or the book. It's clear that Matthew Warchus knows how to make a crowd-pleasing movie (if you haven't watched Pride (2014), then you should do so now) and his skills are on show here from the very first scene. The entire cast clearly had a blast making it, too, and it's overall a very fun watch.

I watched Matilda:The Musical on Netflix a couple days ago and absolutely LOVED IT!!!I had only ever heard the broadway soundtrack and seen Revolting Children performed at the Tony's so I can't really compare but I thought it was great. The choreography, the vocals, the story... just awesome. Also those kids are incredibly talented👏🏼My only issue with the movie was that they used 2 fat suits, one for Bruce and another for Ms.Trunchbull but besides that it was really great.I think it may be my favorite movie adaption of a musical.

"You don't mean that." Graham says with confidence. If Logan did, then he wouldn't have bothered showing up to the hospital in the first place. "I know you better than anyone else does." He adds, reminding the other just how much time the two of them had spent together. "You shrug off my touch, but I know you want it. Don't you?" His voice is now sickly sweet as he reaches out again, curious to see how the other would react. "You'll be at my house later, won't you? Waiting for me to get home."
Logan's not used to anyone being so cruel to him. No one's ever made it so obvious that they don't care about him. Don't care what happens to him. He never had learned to separate the sex and feelings. Never thought he would chase after someone so blunt in their unkindness. It's a lot to take in. It's almost too much. Graham's right there's nothing to end and he shouldn't have come. He should have just blocked the other's number. Instead he did all this just to be humiliated. Graham touches him and Logan's eyes close for a brief pause before he pulls away. "Why would you touch me like that? After saying all that." He shakes his head staring at the other in disbelief. "They're at the fucking door. Don't worry. Don't call me again." Logan doesn't care about how dramatic he's being. Graham's hit him in every tender spot he has and pressed down. "You can do this to someone else. Not me."

Dubois' bibliography: Fairy books (1)
I talked a LOT before of Pierre Dubois, his famous "Fairy/Elf/Lutin Encyclopedias", his collections of fairytales, and so forth and so on. And yes we have to agree that he has a very free, inventive, poetic style when it comes to retelling the various myths and legends surrounding the fair folk and other supernatural beings. As such, while his books are very entertaining and very beautiful, they are not to be used as a serious research material and can be quite misleading between Dubois' personal inventions, crafted genealogies and fictional history of "Elfland"...
BUT the wonderful and very pleasant thing with Dubois is that at the end of each of his Encylopedias he leaves us with a complete bibliography of all the books he used when writing them. I have rarely stumbled upon such complete bibliographies about the "fair folk", "good neighbor", petit peuple" and so forth, and while it goes a bit beyond what this blog is about (fairy tales proper), I still thought of sharing some of it here because my Dubois posts were all here.
Now, I can't share the entirety of the bibliography because it would be too big. However what I will share is all the books Dubois placed in his bibliography... in English. Indeed, Dubois reads the English and as such a good chunk of his bibliography is English-speaking (there are also some Spanish, Italian and German books in his lists). As such, if you are an English speaker you can easily go check these texts. (Note, this comes from his bibliography of his "Encyclopedia of Fairies", so that we stay within the "fairy tale" theme of this blog)
Tolkien's On Fairy-Stories
Beatrice Phillports, Mermaids
Richard Carrington, Mermaids and Mastodons
Gwen Benwell and Arthur Waugh, Sea Enchantress
The Lost Gods of England, Brian Branston
Wilfrid Bonser, A bibliography of folklore

F. J. Child, The English and Scottish Popular Ballads
Moncure Daniel Conway, Demonology and Devil Lore
T. C. Croker, Fairy Legends and Traditions of the South of Ireland
N. Belfield Dennys, The Folklore of China [The book has the very unfortunate subtitles "and its affinities with that the Aryan and Semitic races", but it was written in the 19th century so...)
David Crockett Graham, Songs and Stories of the Ch'uan Miao
Thomas Keightley, The Fairy Mythology
P. Kennedy, Legendary Fictions of the Irish Celts

"i didn't come over to be interrogated." he responded, not even bothering to hide the irritation in his tone. if he would have known she was going to be throwing these sort of questions at him as soon as he stepped through the door, then he never would have came.
"if this is all you're going to do, then i'm going to go home. i just got off call. i really don't have the energy for this." a sigh escapes from his lips as he stands in front of her, hands now on hips.
he should have seen this coming. the more time he spent with her, the more attached she got. sure, she was a lovely lady, but did he have feelings for her? he had kept his distance on purpose. graham didn't do feelings. couldn't, considering he was "...we're engaged."
open starter: to everyone. plot: we’re not official but i just found out you’re seeing someone else.
‘‘how long have you been seeing each other?’‘ it wasn’t a question she wanted to ask. she didn’t want to know the answer, but she found herself sitting on the stairs of her house - watching the other open the door and sneak back in. she had no right to be mad, seeing how they weren’t seeing each other exclusively. sophia had sworn off relationships after her divorce and yet, she still found herself in the almost same position. except this time, she truly had no right being mad at the other one for seeing other people : if anything, sophia would’ve done the same if she hadn’t fallen so madly in love with them. ‘‘please. don’t lie. i know you’ve been seeing someone else, how long?’‘

Nine months ago, when Lauren had found out that she was pregnant with Graham’s child, the first emotion she’d felt was anxiety. She was terrified that he might not be filling to be a part of the child’s life, worried about how she was going to do this on her own. She had been so scared that she had just left to Hawaii for a week. But she was glad she’d returned, glad she had finally told Graham, glad that the next nine months had gone by with the two of them learning how to be co-parents and falling in love in the process. It was all leading up to this moment.
Lauren was a crying, sweating mess by the time the nurse handed them their baby girl. Still sore from the hours of labor but her heart filled with joy when she held her daughter, she turned over to look at Graham. For the past few months, she had been struggling to find the right words to say. But now that their baby was here, she did not hesitate. “I love you.” She told him, her gaze returning to their newbown. “We did good, Graham.” @flwrshops

Arden had picked up a cup of coffee at her favorite place near the hospital. She straightened her lab coat up as she walked down the street and back to work. She still had another thirty or so minutes (unless her pager went off before that) before she had to return to the hospital. Turning the corner onto the next block, she spotted a familiar head of blonde hair ahead of her. It couldn’t be. Arden inched closer, and realised who it was. “Graham? Graham Hodson? Is that you?”

DCEU Movies in Development: A Master Post
Last Edited: May 01, 2019
Since Shazam! is coming out soon, I thought I’d make a master post of all the various DCEU movies in development. However, since there’s a huge amount of movies in development, I might miss one or two. Be sure to let me know if I do.
Also, as a side-note, I broke Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984 into three segments of story, crew, and cast, but since things are less clear in regards to The Batman, The Suicide Squad, and Aquaman 2, I wasn’t able to do the same for them.
Confirmed Release Dates:
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) - February 7, 2020
The Story: Since the events of Suicide Squad, Batman has disappeared, leaving Gotham City unprotected from crime, and Harley Quinn has left the Joker. When Cassandra Cain, a young girl, comes across a diamond belonging to crime lord Black Mask, Harley joins forces with Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya to help protect her.
The Crew: Cathy Yan (director), Margot Robbie, Sue Kroll, Bryan Unkeless (producers), Christina Hodson (screenwriter), Matthew Libatique (cinematographer)
The Cast: Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress), Rosie Perez (Renee Montoya), Ella Jay Basco (Cassandra Cain), Ewan McGregor (Black Mask), Chris Messina (Victor Zsasz)
Wonder Woman 1984 - June 5, 2020
The Story: Diana Prince comes into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s, and finds a formidable foe in the form of the Cheetah.
The Crew: Patty Jenkins (director), Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Stephen Jones, Gal Gadot (producers), Patty Jenkins, Geoff Johns, David Callaham (screenwriters), Patty Jenkins, Geoff Johns (writers), Hans Zimmer (composer), Matthew Jensen (cinematographer), and Richard Pearson (editor)
The Cast: Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Kristen Wiig (Cheetah), Pedro Pascal (TBA), Connie Nielsen (Hippolyta), Robin Wright (Antiope)
The Batman - June 25, 2021
In October 2014, a Batman standalone film was announced by Warner Bros. By 2016, Ben Affleck was set to star in, produce, direct, and write the project. Geoff Johns and Chris Terrio were hired as co-writers. After various drafts of the script had been completed the film was moving towards beginning shooting by 2017, until Affleck stepped down as director that January. Affleck initially cited his intentions being to more specifically focus on starring as Batman, later acknowledging that after various attempts to get the script where he wanted it, it simply became "time to let someone else have a shot at it". In July 2017, Matt Reeves confirmed that the script was being rewritten: the final draft was completed by January 2019. Reeves reworked the story to focus on Batman earlier on in his career as a vigilante; he said the film will be character-driven and stylistically noir, and will explore the detective aspect of the character to a greater extent than previous films. In January 2019, Affleck confirmed he will not reprise his role as Batman, but remains involved as a producer. Principal photography is expected to begin in November 2019.
The Suicide Squad - August 6, 2021
In March 2016, a Suicide Squad sequel was announced to be in development, with David Ayer returning to direct. Adam Cozad was hired to write the script by March 2017. By July 2017, a new story treatment was written by Zak Penn. In September, Gavin O'Connor was hired as director after Ayer dropped out, as well as co-screenwriter with Anthony Tambakis, David Bar Katz and Todd Stashwick. The final draft of the script was completed in October 2018, though production was delayed due to conflicts with Will Smith's production schedule, followed by O'Connor leaving the project. Production was placed on hold as Warner Bros. believed the script was too similar to Birds of Prey. Lobo teams with a small town teenage girl to stop the creatures." Ritchie was scheduled to begin production of Lobo in early 2010 and bring an "irreverent, gruff tone" to the film as he did with previous films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, though the studio was reportedly aiming for a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association of America. In early 2010, it was reported that Ritchie had left the project in order to pursue working on a sequel to his hit film Sherlock Holmes instead. The future of the movie was then put on hold. In 2012, Deadline reported that Brad Peyton would write and direct the film. Rumors in November 2012 suggested that Guillermo del Toro was working on a Justice League Dark film titled Heaven Sent. It would feature Deadman, the Spectre, Swamp Thing, John Constantine, Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Zatara, Sargon the Sorcerer, and Etrigan the Demon. Del Toro later confirmed in January 2013 that he was working on such a film, with the working title, Dark Universe, and was hiring a screenwriter. Del Toro revealed Swamp Thing, Constantine, The Spectre, Deadman, Zatanna and Zatara were characters in the story.
In March 2013, del Toro gave an update on the film at WonderCon 2013, while talking about his film Pacific Rim. He revealed that the story bible was complete and he hoped to start the screenplay soon. Production would begin after his next project, Crimson Peak. The film's story would center around John Constantine recruiting Swamp Thing, Etrigan the Demon, Deadman, Spectre, and Zatanna. The film would not be an origin story, with each character already established and elements of their backstory coming into play throughout the film. Del Toro also revealed that Floronic Man would be in the film. In May 2013, del Toro revealed that his script featured Constantine, Swamp Thing, Madame Xanadu, Deadman and Zatanna as the team, with others "in the mix". He also revealed that he was still waiting for the go-ahead from Warner Bros. Pictures. Del Toro revealed in July 2013 that he hoped that the DC Extended Universe, which started with Man of Steel, would become as cohesive as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he added that if there was any correlation to that universe and this film, he would honor it.
In October 2013, del Toro stated he felt his film would be able to coexist with the television series, Constantine and reiterated that the film was still active and in the writing process. In July 2014, del Toro once again stated he was working on the film, and stated it would be independent from the universe established with Man of Steel, saying, "DC and Warners have been very clear that they are trying to keep [this film and Sandman] separate so when the time comes they can unite them, once they know they’re quantifiable." Del Toro also added that his Constantine would not adhere to the continuity established in the television series, but he would consider incorporating elements from it, and even think about casting the same actor (Matt Ryan). In November 2014, del Toro confirmed that the script was complete and handed it in to Warner Bros. to be reviewed. In December 2014, he hinted that the film would be part of the DC Extended Universe.

[The film] needs to fall into the plan of the shared universe." After years of being involved in the project's development, Berlanti was reported to be in negotiations with the studio to serve as director.
