"i didn't come over to be interrogated." he responded, not even bothering to hide the irritation in his tone. if he would have known she was going to be throwing these sort of questions at him as soon as he stepped through the door, then he never would have came.
"if this is all you're going to do, then i'm going to go home. i just got off call. i really don't have the energy for this." a sigh escapes from his lips as he stands in front of her, hands now on hips.
he should have seen this coming. the more time he spent with her, the more attached she got. sure, she was a lovely lady, but did he have feelings for her? he had kept his distance on purpose. graham didn't do feelings. couldn't, considering he was "...we're engaged."
open starter: to everyone. plot: we’re not official but i just found out you’re seeing someone else.
‘‘how long have you been seeing each other?’‘ it wasn’t a question she wanted to ask. she didn’t want to know the answer, but she found herself sitting on the stairs of her house - watching the other open the door and sneak back in. she had no right to be mad, seeing how they weren’t seeing each other exclusively. sophia had sworn off relationships after her divorce and yet, she still found herself in the almost same position. except this time, she truly had no right being mad at the other one for seeing other people : if anything, sophia would’ve done the same if she hadn’t fallen so madly in love with them. ‘‘please. don’t lie. i know you’ve been seeing someone else, how long?’‘

"remind me again as to why i decided to become a doctor rather than an actor? i could be laying on a beach in caicos right now." instead, he was in a hospital, finishing two back to back surgeries. a knee replacement followed by acl reconstruction. "it's definitely not the coffee." he says as he pours himself a cup from the pot in the break room. as he takes a sip, his face screws up in what can only be described as disgust. "yep. definitely not that." // @torturedmuses

"You don't mean that." Graham says with confidence. If Logan did, then he wouldn't have bothered showing up to the hospital in the first place. "I know you better than anyone else does." He adds, reminding the other just how much time the two of them had spent together. "You shrug off my touch, but I know you want it. Don't you?" His voice is now sickly sweet as he reaches out again, curious to see how the other would react. "You'll be at my house later, won't you? Waiting for me to get home."
Logan's not used to anyone being so cruel to him. No one's ever made it so obvious that they don't care about him. Don't care what happens to him. He never had learned to separate the sex and feelings. Never thought he would chase after someone so blunt in their unkindness. It's a lot to take in. It's almost too much. Graham's right there's nothing to end and he shouldn't have come. He should have just blocked the other's number. Instead he did all this just to be humiliated. Graham touches him and Logan's eyes close for a brief pause before he pulls away. "Why would you touch me like that? After saying all that." He shakes his head staring at the other in disbelief. "They're at the fucking door. Don't worry. Don't call me again." Logan doesn't care about how dramatic he's being. Graham's hit him in every tender spot he has and pressed down. "You can do this to someone else. Not me."

Graham had made a lot of enemies over the years, thanks to his attitude. But...he was good at what he did. He voiced his opinions even when people didn't want to hear them, and nine times out of ten he was right. But Arden...Arden always knew how to put him in his place, and get more out of him than anyone else. She was, you could say, his rock through it all, ever since they had met. It was rare for him to form such a friendship, but the woman meant more to him than most did. His actions and the way he talked to her showed this. "I don't know why you did. I was a pleasure to be around." He jokes, knowing very well how awful he could be. She thankfully hadn't been caught on that side. "Never say never. There's still time. Might fight you over the last chocolate chip cookie in the cafeteria."
She'd always found it hard to make friends and to keep them, but Graham always made it easy. She liked to think she helped beat the attitude out of him over the years, but the arrogance would always hang around no matter how hard she tried. Her head leaned against his shoulder. Physical affection was never something she liked, but Graham always had a free pass. It was easier with him, and she knew he expected nothing from her. "You have too even if I did hate you when we first met. I used to think I wasn't going to finish intern year without getting into a fist fight with you."

It had been a miracle that Graham had made a friend out of Arden. When they had first met, he had been arrogant. Cocky. Rude. Not much has changed since then, now that he thinks about it. "You're right. I learned the most from some of the worst attendings out there." Chuckling, he wraps an arm around her shoulder, pulling her close to his side. He only showed this type of affection towards her. Everyone else? He remained cold and stoic. "You know, you've made this hospital bearable."
"And when you've been a doctor longer than your interns have been alive, you can do that too." Arden pushed his shoulder before laughing at him again. She remembered meeting Graham in intern year and how he was so arrogant, but he was also so damn funny. Graham had been the first person she'd felt connected to in a very long time. She'd told him everything--things she'd kept under lock and key for years. Graham was her safe place. "It's part of the initiation! I'll never be as awful to them as my attendings were to me, but some ways help them learn." Arden glanced down at her buzzing pager, but decided it could wait. "But I wouldn't of survived all of those years if I didn't have you with me."

"Oh, so I'm stuck picking up the slack because Hyland wanted to take his fifth vacation of the year? Must be nice, being royalty around here." Graham snorts. He didn't get along with most. A lot of the other surgeons found him arrogant, but had to admire his work. He was good at what he did, despite being an asshole about it. It was a surprise that Arden was even friends with him. She was one of the sweeter ones that worked at the hospital. "I don't know, I thought I'd go easy on him...but they never went easy on me during my residency. They made me their bitch, and they didn't care how I felt."
Graham was the first person Arden was able to be completely herself around. The years of constant people pleasing and pretending to be someone else went away around Graham. She started to unwrap her hair from their braids. "No you can't! Hyland is out all week at the beach." Arden giggled at her own memories of getting nauseated in any ortho surgery. "Let him hold the bone saw next time if you really want to make him pass out."

"Thankfully, no." Graham chuckles at her distaste for such happy things. There was a reason why they were best friends. He doesn't protest as she gets comfortable, instead continues to drink the lukewarm, burnt bean water. "Hopefully there is, and I can call out. They have me on call almost all week." Letting out a dramatic sigh, he sets down the paper cup. "Nothing exciting. Had a resident with me today. Thought the guy was gonna pass out once bone started to fly."
"Have you been over there recently? It's all bright colors and flowers. Makes me sick." She laughed alongside with him before draping her legs across his lap. Despite the complaint of the horrible coffee, he kept drinking it which made her laugh again. "Did you check for mold? It could've been there for longer," she teased him. Arden leaned her head against a cushion. "That heart gets to beat for another day for now. Probably see him again in five years, but I think it's a good one to end on. What about you? Did you break enough bones for the rest of your life?"

"To end what?" Graham questions, acting as if he had no idea what the other was talking about. Like their time together meant nothing to him and he was just another notch in his belt. "There's nothing to end, Logan." He states. "Unless..." Trailing off, he takes a step closer towards the other, reaching his hand out and placing it on his jaw. Graham uses his finger to stroke Logan's cheek. "You really do love me, don't you? Tsk, tsk. I thought I told you to keep your feelings at the door."
Logan instantly feels wounded at the other's pointed words. Like daggers they hit him right in the chest. He can't feel the teeth in his head right now let alone be sure if he'd physically flinched from Graham's words. "It's not." Is it? Logan blinks at the other and wonders how it's so easy for him to say these things. It really meant nothing? "I'm not waiting until then to end this." He shakes his head. "Won't have to worry about that, won't even have to call security since I'm talking to you at the hospital god forbid." He wants to cry but he swallows the ache in his throat down. "I'm just going to forget about you. I'm not doing this anymore."

"I was about to ask why they get the good stuff, but they are working with kids. They probably need it more than anyone in this whole place." Graham chuckles, joining Arden on the couch. He takes another sip of his coffee, despite it being some of the worst he's ever had. "Tastes like its been sitting for a day, if I'm being honest. Probably has." Snorting, he sets it down on the nearby table. "How'd the surgery go? Good enough to let it be your last one so we can run away?"
Arden kicked off her clogs and removed her scrub cap with a dramatic sigh. She'd hardly seen Graham today. Her ablation surgery had gone on much longer than intended. "I did it for the fantastic hours and desperate need to please my parents," she joked, head falling back on the breakroom couch. "I don't know what you do that to yourself every time. Go to the coffee cart in Peds. It's worth the walk. "Let's quit today and go run away to the Caicos. Find us some hot partners and drink our sorrows away."

"Love. Do you even know what that means, at your age?" His tone is condescending as he watches the other attempt to self-soothe. "Infatuation. Might want to look it up in the dictionary." Graham glances at his watch, acting as disinterested as he could in the conversation. He didn't want to give Logan the wrong idea. Couldn't. It could never work between the two of them. "What are you doing here, anyway? I told you, the hospital is off limits. When I'm here, you don't speak to me. You forget about me until my next day off."
"I keep trying to love you but it's never enough." Logan sighs softly as he rubs his hands across his face. Tries to soothe himself because the other never does. It's an endless cycle this thing between them. "Loving you is like pulling fucking teeth." He shakes his head as he stares at them. Blinks away the tears. He's always quietly worn his heart on his sleeve. "And I can't do it anymore. We can't keep doing this." @falscgcds
