Ok, so I watched TOTTMNT and I am here to rant. Also, SPOILERS ahead!
Tumblr media
So First of all, if I had to sum up my thoughts into a single sentence it would be: For the love of God, put those turtles back together, where they belong!!
I didn’t hate the show, but I didn’t come to like it either. And no, I did not have any prejudgment just because it was a new iteration. Honestly I was super hyped for this version, because the movie was a blast. Yea, I ended up being disappointed. But let me just elaborate on that:
First let’s take a look at our turtles from worst to best in my opinion.
Mikey:
Tumblr media
Yepp, ladies and gentlemen so far I have never seen a single iteration where I didn’t come to like a Mikey. He’s always among my favs. But this version felt super shallow. He had just as much screen time in the series as his brothers and yet I still have no idea who this guy really is. His jokes were lame not really landing, I couldn’t really point out any particular goal or insecurity that anyone could relate to. Also, the guy is super oblivious. Like he took ten minutes to realize he walked into a robbery when he went for groceries. Heck he was having a casual conversation with the robbers.
Tumblr media
Leo:
Tumblr media
Another kinda shallow guy. Sure we seen a bit of insecurity, he literally quoted Rise Leo saying “ I’m nothing without them!” but it felt irreal. Because Rise Leo had a reason to think that, he wasn’t as much of a functional member of the team and he was always taken for jokes. But right from the beginning of TOTTMNT we see Tales Leo commanding his brothers, they listen to him  and even say it multiple times how planning is Leo’s thing. So at this point this Leo is just fucking blind. ( Also April slaps instant self confidence into the boy.)
Raph:
Tumblr media
Ok, this is also the first time, but I never really took a liking to a Raph before Tales Raph. Boy is filled with anger and sass, yet he’s not coming off as a total jerk like 2012 Raph. And of course he's not a super softie like Rise Raph ( I don’t hate Rise Raph for being a softie, he's my second favorite Raph) either. He had some fun pipe up and overall a personality I got. I think he’s the most perfect Raph I have ever seen.
Donnie:
Tumblr media
The best character of the iteration in my humble opinion. He was relatable, funny, honestly he was stealing Mikey’s job as the comic relief, but at the same time he’s the smart guy. The boy is ranting about not being the IT guy and then goes reprogramming an evil robot. Oh and he saved so many lifes, because he stopped a fucking train crash. He’s epic, I swear.
Tumblr media
(My fave screenshot ever 🤣🤣)
Now story wise:
🔥What the fuck was this dumpster fire?! 🔥Who thought splitting up the turtles would be fine?! 😑Especially in a 12 episode season? Look, I don't mind solo or duo time. There were plenty of good ones, for example Rise. I adored the Mikey vs Leo cook off episode or the Gumbus one, but for the sake of my sanity Rise had twice as many episodes and the turtles were not split up for the majority of the story.
Like I'm not joking when I say they were together in 4 episodes intotal.😨😨
Now I heard rumors left and right that the fact that they need to make a show was thrown at the team at the last minute ( IDK how true is that) , but goodness gracious even if I was presented with the task with a “ Due tomorrow label” I could still write a better story. Especially with the goldmine what the writers decided to ignore.
Yes, something that would've made TOTTMNT be really unique….. School people! We were promised that we will explore the turtles from the teenage side. Ummm….Hate to break it to ya all but I think there is no better way to do that than putting them into school.
It would’ve been fire to see them trying to fit in, balancing all the cool hero stuff with school life, maybe wrecking the school, seeing how other teenangers adjust to the fact that now giant talking turtles are their classmates. It wouldn’t be some crazy mind blowing plot, but I swear it would've been amazing.
Now don’t misunderstand me. Despite the story feeling like being all over the place it wasn’t that super bad, but I’m pissed that it could've been better with ease.
Also another thing that bugged me, is the feeling of something missing. IDK if anyone else who watched it felt like this, but I legit felt like if we just grabbed the for example farm arc from 2012 TMNT and aired it as season 1. The fact that the turtles were split and they kept mentioning that they have always been fighting together made me feel like I should’ve seen them do that.
Anyways, If I did not take your will to watch it away, go and check it out. It's not horrible but not great either. I’m disappointed and I'm gonna need Rise back, thank you very much!

in concept, larry is an incredible character and i love him dearly. as i ignore a ton of characterizations the game has given him. i don't think he WOULD be a creep okay and i don't think he's completely incompetent either.
he's a weirdo who frequently gets dumped yes, and he's incredibly silly and gets himself into a bunch of trouble every so often. he and maya's innate talents of getting themselves into trouble makes nick go insane. but, i think at his core he's just an incredibly caring friend too. he's not the sappy kind or anything, but does the most reckless shit to show he cares for his friends.
he was meant to be a pure comic relief character i know, and over time i think his characterization just got muddier and muddier compared to how cool his character was in aa1. but mannn, i wish we could've gotten more scenes with him just, being him in a non-creep-way. i just love his role within the signal samurai trio so much as the sole troublemaker and the guy he always bickers with (nick) and the guy who lowkey hates him in the most friend way possible (miles).
he's the type of character to always ask if the three of them could hang out again like good old times, and practically beg both phoenix and miles to get a freaking day off for once. and listen, worst of all, i don't think neither miles or phoenix hate him wow what a shocker!!! like i hate how ingame content makes it feel like they both genuinely do not enjoy his presence sometimes but of course i can brush it off as just standard friend-hate-relationships and whatnot. because i'm sure phoenix and miles care for him very much, probably even maya and gumshoe! he's apart of the family whether you like it or not!
and like, of course, i have to mention what on earth he could've been doing during the 7 year gap. there's various interpretations of whether nick was in constant contact with his friends or whatever, but if he did keep in contact with them as much as he could i think larry would be one of the people to worry about him the most. in fact he probably would even come over a lot! he could've helped babysit trucy sometimes when phoenix couldn't tend to her, and would've been a fire ass uncle if you asked me. he pretty much understands nick's situation too, going in and out of unstable jobs and getting unstable salaries from whatever job they're hanging onto for now. larry's just a really fucking good friend man. he's just an infuriatingly goofy man with lots of love for his friends and just gets into a shit ton of trouble.

Characters I Would've Liked to See More than the Faks in S3
I learned too fak'ing much about that family in S3. I loved the Faks in S2. Their increased screentime felt like an over-compensation. Much of the comedy that I loved in S1 came from the staff interactions. The feeling of an ensemble was truly missed for me.
But without further ado and in no particular order-
1. Marcus
Tumblr media
Marcus Brooks, I am so sorry that the writers didn't give your story the necessary space it truly needed. You were the only child of a single mother, and you watched her die. I wish we could've seen more of your grief. The little glimpses we saw - your eulogy speech, the way you were inspired to make a dish to honor her, and your thinking about legacy - were so beautiful, but it felt like it had no place to breathe.
The glossing over this tragic loss, the fumbling of showcasing Black Catholic influences (sidenote: did you know that Chicago is home to the biggest African American Catholic population), and the diminishing of his grief were some lows of the season. I would've loved to see more of Marcus dealing with the loss of a parent because no matter how "prepared" you are, that shit will knock you off your feet.
2. Sweeps
Tumblr media
If we needed a break from the melancholy of the main plot, I would've loved to see Mr. Gary “Sweeps” Woods go to wine school. It could've been in clips, similar to Tina going to culinary school in S2. Some comedic slip-ups, or maybe somebody else recognized him from his baseball days, or maybe he messed around and got too drunk. Better yet: he and some fellow sommelier get drunk. We've seen this character for three seasons, and we barely see him.
I did enjoy his monologue in Legacy and thought it was very fitting.
3. Manny and Angel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I remember seeing them for a split second in the 30-minute montage S3 E3 "Doors." They are truly the unsung heroes, and it would be good to see them for some comic relief. Maybe they're pranksters? Maybe they could've been the reason the teaspoons and forks were missing. Or maybe they could've been tasked with counting how many come through.
What's their dynamic? What are their personalities? Three seasons, and they feel like cameos.
4. Thee Adamus
Tumblr media
One of the things that I wanted from S3 was some more Sydney's mom, and while I was delighted to see she has her mom as her lock screen, I wanted more. I love Syd's dynamic with her Dad whose unyielding support can come off a little worrisome to his baby girl. But Dreamer! Daughter x Practical! Father hits close to home for me. And the Adamus have a healthier relationship with loss and grief, and I want to know more about that process.
When I say more of the Adamus, I mean I want to see why and how Sydney became Sydney. I wanted to see their family dynamics. Why does Syd like to cook? Why is Syd avoidant?
Plus, this was a season about mothers, goshdarnit. More mother content, please.
5. Ebra
Tumblr media
Ebra is so funny to me. Like I'm begging on my knees for more Ebra content. He's so cryptic and genuine in a way that only older Black men sharing snapshots of their trauma are. In S1, he's very attentive when it comes to the younger staff members, like when he was sensitive to Marcus gaining confidence in his skills and when he read Sydney's review for the whole kitchen to see.
One of my critiques of S2 was that they just let Ebra fall by the waistside. They didn't fully commit to his journey to accepting change as an older professional. This season, we barely got him at all. I would've had him at least show up to Syd's party. Maybe even via Facetime with the camera all up his nose because he doesn't understand the mechanics just yet.

X-Men 97 episode 8 *SPOILERS*
Bastion
Not gonna lie, I busted out laughing when I watched his origin story. This is the second time an antagonist had to wait for a couple to make a child and use said child for their plans. Nimrod was lucky that the guy he infected was in a relationship. Plus, I thought it was gonna make Bastion sympathetic due to his childhood flashbacks, but nope.
So, he made a Utopia for humans, but the mutants are enslaved. Saw old Polaris and the Phoenix. But, what bugs me is that he claims that many of the humans consented to be turned into Prime Sentinels without knowing all the details and won't have any memory of being turned. I find it hard to believe that every single one of them would've consented, especially his elderly mother. Dude omitted many details and I'm pretty sure he turned some of them without them knowing. Plus, I'm still mad at him for killing Gambit.
Cameos of Dr. Doom and Zemo (hydra n@zi Zemo, not the MCU version). Wasn't expecting to see them being members of OZT.
Mr. Sinister's just in it for the mutant experimentation.....y'know what? I shouldn't be surprised with that reason why he "teamed up" with Bastion. More test subjects.
Summers Family
Not gonna lie, I was really annoyed with the drama between Cable and Scott. If this was comics Scott, I can understand why Cable's giving him the cold shoulder. But, this Scott didn't wanna abandon Nathan like his dad did to him! It was Madelyn that gave him to Bishop. So, if Scott was there with her, things would've been cool?! God, I'm so sick of this drama. Thank goodness that it didn't last long and that Jean stopped them from escalating it further.
Summers family vs. Prime Sentinels was pretty cool. I like that father/son fistbump, which means things will get better between the two.
It's funny that Jean's being the mom at Cable who's like this big man in his 50s.
Also, Jean and Scott's relationship is getting better which is a relief.
Nightcrawler
Once again, precious boy and MVP. What he said to Jean was really nice. He's always been there as someone's shoulder to lean and cry on. When he talked about Mystique, I felt so bad for him. Honestly, I hated what she did to him just because he was born that way. In the 90s show, she did feel guilt for what she did when Nightcrawler talked to her. But, I still didn't like her for what she did to him. However, with all the words and hugs he's given to others, I hope he has someone who'd give him words and hugs too. He also needs a shoulder to lean and cry on too.
SWASHBUCKLING NIGHTCRAWLER HELL YEAH!!! I've been waiting to see him use swords and it was worth the wait. Him teaming up with Wolverine was really cool. Plus, seeing how his teleporting works was cool too. Love that he was protecting his sister, and I'm glad that we got something with him and Logan cause we haven't had anything like that since he first appeared.
Beast
Why the hell would he let the reporter stay in?! Even if she's not doing her job, she's shouldn't be involved! It has nothing to do with her, plus, I'm pretty sure he revealed a lot of classified information that only the X-Men should be allowed to hear and see. Dammit, Beast. And, dammit Morph for letting her in too.
*sigh* Anyone else think, he's been done dirty in this episode? Cause having her stay in there got his butt kicked. Sure, he didn't know that she was a Prime Sentinel, but they do know the possibility that any human could be one, right? Now, Beast is knocked out along with Rogue, who hasn't woken up still.
Jubilee and Roberto
Okay, so they are gonna be part of the main plot, good. I was worried that they were gonna be sidelined, especially Jubilee.
His mom is a beech. She sold her son out to the Prime Sentinels and didn't believe him and for what? Her reputation?! Man, f**k this beech, she sucks. Poor Roberto though.
Finally using his powers more than once! I counted four times in this whole series so far of when he used them. It's also something that annoys me about the character. He said that he was training in the Danger Room to surprise Jubilee, but why couldn't we have seen that?! Why couldn't we have Roberto training with one of the X-Men's help and see him develop his abilities?! Hell, have Jubilee be there to train him! That way we could've seen more of his abilities and see him grow more and have him interact with other characters, bonding with them. Not just Jubilee. Maybe have him open up to when he first awakened his powers and why he wants to hide them, instead of just telling us.
On the plus side, they should be okay thanks to Magneto's magnetic EMP ability. Speaking of which....
Magneto
I'm glad he didn't get turned into a Prime Sentinel, but I still don't understand how Bastion and Mr. Sinister got his hands on him from Genosha. That blast should've killed him along with the Morlocks. I don't even think it's gonna be explained how they captured him.
His prisoner numbers....yeesh. 😬
The one good thing that Cooper did. Letting him go and realizing that he was right. Aside from that, f**k her. Seriously, was the only good human (regular human, not enhanced) shown in this was Moira?! Cause that's what it feels like.
Now, I was confused at first with what Magneto did, but I think he went to the North or South Poles and used the Earth's magnetic field which is strongest there to cause a worldwide blackout, disabling all the Prime Sentinels. Not killing them, mind you. All while in his underwear, too.
Honestly, I wouldn't blame him if he wages war. He tried to be good. He tried to respect Xavier's dream. But, look what happened. So, I wouldn't blame him if he did this.
HOWEVER! I like that Magneto was good. Part of me doesn't want him to go back to his old ways cause that's gonna be more conflict between him and Xavier. Plus, only Logan claimed that Magneto waged war. If he did, he would've killed the Prime Sentinels, but he didn't. If anything, he'd be waging war on Bastion since he's the one responsible. But, yeah, I'm sorry Xavier. You're cool and all, but Magneto was right.
Cameos
I mentioned Zemo, Doctor Doom, Future Polaris and Future Phoenix. But there were much more.
Omega Red and the Silver Samurai, but one that made me so excited to see......SPIDER-MAN!!! I was so happy to see 90s Spider-Man. I know many would want a sequel to the animated series, but we'll have to wait and see.
The rest I wanna talk/rant about
Professor X shows up finally, but I got miffed when he said "I hope I'm not too late". CHARLES! YOU ARE VERY VERY LATE!!! I know space travel takes time, but COME ON! He better do something real quick to help stop all this crap that's been happening. Dunno how, but it better be something good.
By the way, I'm still annoyed with that black hole excuse. Why couldn't he just contact Scott and the others and stay in touch with them right when he was fully recovered or was well enough?
WHERE THE HELL IS STORM?!?!?! I know she's with Forge, but you'd think the moment she heard about Genosha, she'd head back home flying. She'll probably show up next week, but it's been like two episodes since she got her powers back. Is her not being there sooner a choice the writers made cause if she was there, the fight with the Prime Sentinels would've been over quicker? *sigh* I just wanna see one of my favorites come back and kick some butt like she used too.
I dunno if Forge is gonna come back with Storm, but I hope he does. I want him to help with this Bastion mess. Plus, he did take a photo with him, which has me worried that he was connected somehow but I hope not. It also would be cool, if he contacted the rest of X-Factor and meet up with the X-Men and team up. But, I don't think that's gonna happen.
So, Bishop is definitely out of the picture for the rest of this season, which is bullcrap. It would've been cool to have him and Cable work together again like before along with the X-Men. But, instead, the excuse was they got separated from the time stream. So, we don't even know if he's okay or if he's lost again, or if he actually made it back home. God, I feel like his character's purpose of the show was to help create another characters origin.
Okay, I think that's pretty much it. It was a good episode, even though I did rant on a lot of stuff. We'll see how parts 2 and 3 play out in the next two weeks and hope that the finale will stick the landing.

Crazy how Fang's been plucked from comic and game obscurity lately, right? When you were reading issues with Fang/Nack like the stuff where Sally knees him in the groin, how do you think you would've reacted to the news that this guy would not only eventually be getting his own comic miniseries in the future, he'd also be a major antagonist in a mainline Sonic game as well as being the main character in the prequel comic and animation for that game?
It's been really cool to see! Fang's a fun character and I'm glad he's getting used again. We love a somewhat bumbling gunslinger mercenary who can either be more of a serious threat or more of a comic relief villain based on the needs of the story. Who doesn't love Hol Horse
It's funny as a comic reader, though, because to me it can kind of feel like... Fang never went anywhere? He went like 25 years without a major appearance in any games, but during that whole time he's been appearing in the comics semi-regularly. He'd pop up in the Archie comics every couple years, and then as soon as IDW started doing Classic Sonic comics he came right back because of how much Ian likes him. And of course he's always been present in fanart and fan games and all these other things. So his recent comeback has been surprising to me, but not a total shock.
This is kind of an example of how being neck deep in ancillary Sonic material and the fandom can kind of give you a warped view of the series. Sometimes this can be a bad thing. (90% of Sonic discourse feels like people making up their own perfect version of the franchise in their heads and then getting mad when the real thing is different, or when other fans want something different.) But these days being a comic reader makes it feel like I've got an advanced preview of ideas that are being kicked around. To me, Fang feels like a well known character, and him appearing in the games again and getting comics of his own feels like a natural result of Ian's push to keep the Hooligans relevant. But to someone who's less immersed in all this stuff, he's an obscure villain from a long-forgotten Game Gear game and giving him the spotlight in Superstars was a WILD move

I think in New 52 Bruce's and Dick's relationship was considerably less parental.
Dick is fifteen or sixteen when his parents die, and Bruce is in his early twenties. Dick also leaves Bruce to become Nightwing at eighteen or so.
It's different from the other comics where Dick is usually eight or at most twelve at the point and is raised by Bruce and Alfred till eighteen or nineteen when he leaves home.
Which is kind of a relief because the whole Spyral mess is 52 (I think). It is bad in any context, sure, but at least it isn't Dick's dad, the guy who raised him for twelve years, doing that to him.
I honestly can't say much about this because I'm not very aware of what age is Dick in each version. It just changes a lot for me to remember them all.
But even then, I don't know how much better that makes the Spyral arc. You have to consider that by then Dick would've been around 26(? confusing timelines), and that's about 10 years with Bruce, being like a son to him.
So, yeah, although it isn't as awful as thinking of 8 yo Dick losing all his trust on his father now in his 20's, it doesn't change how horrible the whole thing was.

Amen to your Toby post honestly. Preach!! Literally they did nothing with him. Jim turned into a troll, Claire turned into a witch and what happened to Toby? They turned him into a joke. The trifecta should’ve been something with aliens. Like alien heritage or I don’t know got his DNA turned into part alien. Like something. He was competent at the end of Trollhunters and they took it all away. Was a joke in 3below, wasn’t there for most of Wizards, and we are not even going to mention what the movie did to him. What happened to all of his character development?? Gone. Because of what? They need a comic relief character except the jokes weren’t even good and didn’t land. It’s been years and I’m still mad over it.
my boy Toby Domzalski deserved way better than what he got... smh (thanks, Anon! i have. strong feelings about this, haha)
YEAH! he was literally part of SEVERAL DIFFERENT GROUPS of badass teenagers who SLAYED VILLAINS and SAVED THE WORLD. MULTIPLE TIMES!!! and then the show execs, after trollhunters ended, were like. nah. he's fat. that's his whole schtick now anymore. which wasn't even funny in the first place, and got even less funny as time when on. (i hated it when they made those jokes, to the point where i wanted to skip over them instead of watching those mini-train-wrecks. i almost did.) he was just a teen guy! they literally gave him so many interests and personality traits! but noOOooOoOo, he's tHe fAt KiD to the show runners. that's ALL he is to them. they never respected him as a character, and it shows.
like i said in my post defending Toby Domzalski yesterday, they literally could've taken all of those jokes out and the arcadia series would be SO MUCH BETTER for it. and i'm angry about it!! it makes me annoyed that they took away his character and what made him cool, and essentially just made him ThE fUnNy OnE for being (mostly) confident in himself. he learned to be a great fighter!! he killed Angor Rot! he banished Morgana to the shadow realm (literally)!!!! and then. NOTHING. all of his fighting capabilities were BASICALLY GONE, along with Troll/Half-Troll Jim and Awesome Witch Claire. UGH.
they were so mean to Toby, i wish they'd done better things with him, instead of shoving him aside for Cooler New Main Characters instead. not that i don't like them, just... i'm disappointed. and i'll be disappointed if i decide to try rewatching Trollhunters or 3Below or Wizards again, and i'll keep being disappointed because i wish he had better opportunities than in canon, which i will probably look for in fanfiction. my poor, underutilized, fictional son- you never got to fully shine, and your true potential lies with the fans.
-
ooooh- THAT ALIEN THING WOULD'VE BEEN SO COOL!! i didn't even think about that, but Toby being part alien would be AWESOME. maybe his Nana or parents could also be part alien? like his parents died in a spaceship crash, and Nana Domzalski was there to help protect and raise him? it would explain Nana's interesting (and mysterious) traits too, lol
also there's a movie??? i'm kinda scared to look it up, lol
-
TL;DR: you're so right, Anon. they totally wasted Toby's character arc that was built up through Trollhunters, and it sucks.

EarthSpark Starscream as an 'apology' to TFP Starscream thoughts.
And maybe, grieving TFP Starscream as well for the pain he went through.
Last thing I'm going to say about episode 21 starscream (save for reblogging people's points) because I legitimately wanted to take a break and write/draw, is that I wonder if the ES crew was looking specifically at how TFP starscream was treated and saying 'we don't wanna do that again'. because not only was tfp star's abuse laughed at but it was justified, not just by the writing but the fans. even though, at least I, could see that starscream didn't deserve half of the shit he got in tfp. But he was always intentionally made to be a joke or comic relief, and it was really upsetting when trying to discuss that, having people dissuade points or saying he deserved his abuse because he 'betrayed megatron'. when canonically in TFP, Starscream didn't betray megatron until megatrons started physically mistreating him.
GOING back to ES. I just think that ES Starscream is supposed to be like an apology, or even a love-letter to TFP Starscream. Because TFP Starscream and by extension RID Starscream never got to find happiness, he never got to get that redemption or that support system. he was always seen as inexplicitly evil, EVEN when he tried to help the autobots, even when he tried to do good. I will never forgive tfp for making Starscream the only decepticon who didn't get redemption when he did more than all of them to help the autobots. Like he tried so hard at moment and was essentially treated worse than garbage by the writing.
More of what im trying to say is that it's extremely fitting but also refreshing to hear Blum's starscream, who we previously just knew from TFP who was a clear victim of trauma, treated like shit, finally getting the happiess and the nuance he deserves. It is so nice to not see the pain he goes through being justified or made a joke. Because if someone told tfp starscream what hashtag told ES Starscream, then there would've been an actual change. But no one did, not even the autobots. Most people ridiculed him. But can you imagine if someone protected tfp star, how he'd react? how he'd change?
SO ES starscream is just, to me at least an 'i'm sorry you were treated this way, it was never funny' to TFP starscream because even if tfp is done and over, you can't help but feel TFP Starscream is getting justice as well. And of course this isn't to take away from the victory that ES Starscream has, and it's not taking away from his narrative nor decentering him. Seeing him not be just a victim but a survivor of abuse and smiling at the end, and being happy and living on his own terms is nice for once. And even tho we'll never get that with TFP Starscream, i can't help but feel he can finally rest easy.
I can't help but grieve Prime Starscream, because he never got this, and his story ended with him being inexplicitly seen as evil and deserving of his abuse. But this is a step in the right direction.

l've always been annoyed at how Ryuji is treated sometimes by the Phantom Thieves, as a big Ryuji lover, it really hurts to see scenes like that especially when the girls beat him up after risking his life :(
So for my request, I was wondering if you could do a m!reader or gn!reader openly showing their relief/happiness upon seeing Ryuji is okay? This doesn't have to be applied to only that scene, any where he's hurt or made the butt of the joke would be great! Thanks so much <33
Reader Caring for Ryuji After He Came Back Hurt
Fandom: Persona 5
Character(s): Ryuji Sakamoto
Type of Request: Headcanons
Note(s): Tbh that's one of my biggest complaints about P5. The fact that once most of the character arcs were over, then the characters were kind of just there was annoying.
Ann being sexualized in one cutscene despite the creepy crap she went through, Ryuji being the comic relief and being hated on by Morgana all game, Makoto is kind of eh after her big moment with the palace, Haru didn't even get a chance to be a good character in the main story. It took a spinoff game for Haru to get love.
Sorry for my mini-rant, some of the decisions with the characters in Persona makes me sigh.
Tumblr media
Ryuji
You knew that things have been rough with Ryuji. Every time it's time to leave a Palace quickly, you worry because of his leg. He smiles and tells you that it's fine, but you still can't hide your concern.
You weren't there during Shido's palace. Other obligations got in the way. But when Ryuji came and saw you afterwards, looking beat up and limping slightly, you were beyond worried.
"Hey, I'm fine, I'm okay! Ow, my ribs..." Ryuji would laugh as you bring him into a tight hug before starting to fret over the "ow" he let out. He explains what happened to you, grumbling about how most of his injuries aren't even from the palace but after he got out. You didn't quite understand what that meant (probably good as you would've torn the others a new one), you were more focused on helping Ryuji.
He didn't even get an option as you had him sit down and went to grabbing a first aid kit. You made him drink water and refuel from the running he did as you placed bandaids on his scratches. There is a tiny bit of scolding mostly because you were worried, but most of it is "I'm so glad you're okay".
And while Ryuji might complain or squirm a bit at how much you're babying him in this moment, but honestly, he's just trying to distract himself from how his heart squeezes tightly and how his eyes well up a bit. He really didn't think he could fall in love any more and you proved him wrong.

20 years on, Sokka is still one of the best male role models in all of media
We need more young men written like him
Tumblr media
What's there not to love about Sokka? As ATLA's resident comic relief guy, crazy shit that happens to him is always a good laugh. He's full of himself and overconfident which combined with a stellar voice acting performance by Jack DeSena makes for a very fun character. But one of the most intriguing things about him is his relationship with manhood.
Sokka begins the show very close-minded on the subject of gender, he believes he's just innately better than woman (especially Katara) because he is a man. At this point he thinks he's on top of the world and he knows everything. After all, he has been put in a great position of power in protecting his tribe after the men left to fight. For what his world currently is his quite on top of things, but his world is about to expand 100 times over.
Once Aang arrives he's tasked with coming along with him and and his sister to head to the North Pole, but early on they arrive on Kyoshi Island and meet the Kyoshi Warriors, this is what begins to break down his superiority complex where he challenges his later girlfriend Suki to a fight and she fucks up his shit. This causes him to unravel what he believes about gender, that he is better than women because he is a man. But his adventure with becoming a man has only just begun.
Throughout the rest of the show, we uncover more about Sokka having to be left behind by his father, he was just barely not old enough to go away to fight and that hurt him real bad, he feels his ability to fight made him a man, but this robbed right out from under him due to his age. Though having spent 2 years stuck without seeing his father and having spent several months out flying around on a bison taking on the Fire Nation, of course he becomes way stronger and way smarter perhaps not dissimilar to how he would've done if he was able to go off and fight 2 years prior. Eitherway, when he finally sees his father and the men of the Southern Water Tribe again at the end of book 2, he's understandably incredibly nervous because he's unsure of how they'll respond. He's left wondering whether they will see him as a man? And of course, they all do, they shake his hand and one of them is comparing heights as he's gotten a lot bigger, he's now an equal to them. They left him a boy, but they reunited with a man. And the classic moment where Hakoda says to him "aren't you listening? I said the rest of you men get ready for battle" like FUCK yeah man Hakoda doesn't even give a second thought here to his son's manhood he just knows his boy is all grown up I love him.
Now, you all know this, so why am I talking about it? Well, Sokka is such an incredibly positive representation of masculinity: his journey to manhood doesn't involve being better or putting down women or anyone for that matter. It even challenges him on this when he thinks thats what it involves. Being a man to him is knowing where you're needed the most, and he fulfils that by trying to bring about peace in the world and helping his friends and others. This is what masculinity should be.
It seems right now a lot of young men are being radicalised into far-right red-pill ideologies which promote masculinity as mistreatment of others. How on earth do we solve this issue to prevent men diving head first into the brazen misogyny of people like Andrew Tate? I don't know, but a lot of people are increasingly frustrated with hardships in this modern world and look for some kind of scapegoat. Now, don't get me wrong, it's really easy to not be a flaming misogynist, and the grievances that the MRA/manosphere lobby enjoy highlighting like idk men being more lonely supposedly? Or not being able to find "ideal" partners because of the woke anti-men feminism mob or whatever? Whereas feminists point to you know things like rape? And abortion restriction? And domestic violence? Real actual issues that affect millions of women all over the world every single day? Undoubtedly I think a lot of men need to do a bit more critical thinking. But perhaps a small part of solving this problem might just be more shows and movies and media portraying young men like Sokka who learn to embrace a non-toxic and healthy form of masculinity. Maybe this will help even just a few young boys not be pulled into these dangerous ideas as they have their own independent idea of how to be a man that was guided through well written and interesting characters. Though of course there's a lot more to it as well, this is just one thing I've thought of.
"One is not born, but becomes a woman" is a common quote thrown around in feminism, and to me Sokka is the perfect example of someone who wasn't born, but became a man through his own good actions.
👏 More 👏 Young 👏 Men 👏 Like 👏 Sokka 👏 Please 👏

I may be biased but I would love to talk to whoever is in charge about how in fact sexy scenes (especially queer) can be important to the story if they're done well and I know they would be. But yeah this season is sadly too short, I'm holding out for s8 and again hoping for no big time jumps
I think in this case what we have to consider — aside from the pace and density of this season — is that what is important for representation isn't necessarily important for the story.
we got the first kiss because it was very important for the storyline of Buck's character and it set up a whole other row of happenings and directions the show is going into. similarly, we got the awkward first date that was cut short, because Tim needed Tommy out of the picture for most of the episode, so they could do the most important coming out scenes organically.
then we got 7x06, which was an episode largerly about madney, but we still got some of what was going on at the bachelor party so we could see how Buck and Eddie ended up the way they did — and also for comic relief.
then we got the quick convo about their dating status to let us know where they were at and then we got the second kiss — which was important to show that Buck enthusiastically and publicly initiated it and that Tommy showed up, coming straight from work, establishing that as a theme with the character and their relationship dynamic — they didn't have to give us the actual kiss, we would've been able to deduce what happened from the scene right after, but it was important for the story to see that Buck initiated it.
(it also indicated that he was waiting to do that probably all day and I'm pretty sure there were some texting/facetiming scenes ending up on the cutting board as well, since Buck seemed way too impatient; and because Tommy knew exactly where to show up)
these are bits that tell us where Buck is on his journey of self discovery and where the relationship currently stands. to let us know that they are already having sex, they can simply throw in half a sentence into a convo as they all sit in the truck on the way to a call.
for us fans and especially queer fans, it's major that we get to see these typically masculine guys have soft moments and casual intimacy, tentative gentle kisses and passionate ones as well. and I'm sure we'll get a bit more of that next season (ragardless of where bucktommy lands in the finale), but probably not before that.
all this to say, it doesn't stop me from wishing for a shirtless-in-bed scene or a having breakfast suspiciously-in-each-other's-clothes scene anyway 🫠

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Chapter 79: Comments + JP-ENG translation differences
Tumblr media
Welcome back to our monthly appointment, CCS fans! This chapter comes right after this month's full moon, the Hunter Moon! (lol yes I will feature the name of the relative full moon till the end of the story). And speaking of the end of the story, I will start this analysis and translation post from the end of the chapter, where I found the confirmation to the rumour that had been going on for hours before the official release on Comic Days:
yes, dear readers, this is not a drill, Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Arc will end with chapter 80, after 7 years of serialization! 🎉✨ When *the last chapter* is announced, there's no turning back! No more sudden announcements of extensions! 🥹 But at the moment of writing this post, no mentions have been given about any "epilogue" or extra chapters that might be serialized in the upcoming months leading to the big release of volume 16 on April 1st!
On the translation side, I have to sigh in relief because no major misunderstandings happened in the ENG version, just some minor inaccuracies! I was kinda scared because this chapter is pretty important and complex in itself.
And let me say that what happened in this chapter 79 definitely marks the end of the climax, so I can totally see it ending in next chapter. The chapter tackled some very important thematics regarding the presence of "evil" in this series, that I will talk about extensively in my analysis.
The announcement today made me already a bit nostalgic and sad, but I want to strive hard to accompany myself and all of you towards the end of this arc with excitement and a smile, therefore I won't let myself be prey of the sadness yet and introduce you immediately to the gif of this month, because there's a lot we need to talk about and analyze and we can't waste time!!
Tumblr media
This is entirely dedicated to our protagonist and heroine Sakura-chan, because damn, she really slayed this chapter!!! Under the cut to see what miracles she made happen!
The Color Page
My dear readers, after years of countless pleas on my social media, after being let down month after month, CLAMP FINALLY GRANTED ME A COLOR PAGE SOLELY DEDICATED TO KAITO AND AKIHO TOGETHER ON THE SECOND-TO-LAST CHAPTER!! Yaaaay!! Excuse me while I celebrate this event here in my little corner, especially after having a rough month! 🎉🎉🎉 I hope my followers thought of me when they saw it? Like "finally she'll stop asking for it" (breaking news, I'll keep asking for more even after the series is over) 😂 It took them 79 chapters to do so and honestly I'm laughing because....yes, I admit it, I expected another vibe for such an important color page coming after such an important emotional scene in chapter 78, but honestly the first thing I thought when I saw it was "....they had to wait 79 chapters for this? 😧" 😂because it's very very "regular", I think it would've been ok for this to come out long ago. LOL I'm being brutally honest here, I hope no one gets offended, especially because that pet peeve aside, OF COURSE I love this precious color page to bits, and I know under its "normalcy", its got a very important meaning to the both of them.
Akiho and Kaito are depicted together clearly during one of their travels....but the question is, is this from the past? Or the near future? I'd daresay they look the same age they are now, so this might probably be a foreshadowing for the future...? They'll keep travelling the world? But seeing the content of the chapter, this might also be just a call-back to their memories together and everything that they experienced during those travels, tightening their bond. Travelling the world is, after all, really their thing, their element. I really like Kaito's expression, with his usual smile that almost turns into a smirk, he gives off a vibe of being finally free to express his emotions. He looks carefree, and that's really something for him. Akiho, on the other hand, is always so much more expressive than him and you can literally feel the joy and excitement emanating from her delighted expression. Travelling with him makes her happy, so yes, should this be what awaits them in the finale, it's fine by me as long as they're happy (I'm rooting for the other option though, the "stay in Tomoeda with your newfound support network" route).
But as you know, I always have to analyze the color pages a bit deeper, especially when they're about these two. And since I had to keep myself distracted, I made a bit of research. Other than the "travelling" vibe, this illustration gives off also kind of a "vintage" vibe (which is another strong element to Akiho and Kaito). It seems Akiho is dressed in a sleeveless coat with cape and wearing a bonnet fully inspired by those worn by children in the second half of the 1800s, in the Victorian era.
Tumblr media
(pic courtesy of Etsy) This is a model from 1896, for example. When I pinpointed the period, I immediately thought "uh, the Victorian era is also the period when Alice in Wonderland came out", although that was more towards the 1860s. I found it really interesting and a nice touch for this illustration with a retro flavor (the suitcase and purse also look kinda vintage).
But another thing that immediately caught my eyes were those cute birds landing on Kaito's shoulder and Akiho's bonnet. I immediately tried to look what kind of birds they are, and it seems like they could really be eastern bluebirds, typical of North America. Searching further, I found out that in several cultures bluebirds are harbinger of happiness and symbols of hope. I couldn't honestly have thought for a more fitting symbolism, for these two. Especially cause birds often are associated with an imagery of freedom, and this is something else that these two need, after being hunted by evil people for so long. They really do look free, in this color page. Also, the presence of the birds in this color page immediately brought me back to the color page of chapter 62, where we can see baby Kaito in a wintery setting, sitting on a lamppost, extending his little hand to a swallow coming to him. Swallows are a symbol of hope and bring a message of "spring is coming", and continuing from that message of hope, of "spring is coming for you too", we can finally see here in chapter 79 our Kaito with his true happiness, symbolized literally by the birds most associated with happiness. Another thing that caught my eyes is of course the lily depicted on the cover of the book Akiho is holding, a nice callback to Akiho's mother and Kaito's torment, Lilie. She's always going to be with them ❤️
The Japanese editorial text over the picture is an excerpt of what Momo was musing to herself in chapter 39, while imagining to talk to Kaito: "You traveled with her, and spent time together with her". I think CLAMP chose to feature this line to indicate an important thing that will be restored at the end of this chapter.
Everyone Is Doing Their Best
The chapter starts with a panel showing some light coming off Yukito's house, and we find out that even Touya fainted, exhausted by the effort to keep time stopped as much as possible. Ruby Moon is cradling his head on her lap trying to assist him and "recharge" his magical power, in hope to be able to maintain time "stopped" a bit more. In fact, if you notice, the "black covering" that symbolizes the time-stopping spell isn't completely destroyed yet, but only riddled with "holes", an indication that the spell is still somehow active, even if feebly. I imagine this might "slow down" the attacks, which are still coming but probably not at full speed like they would if the spell came undone completely. I have to point out immediately a mild inaccuracy in the ENG version, that I want to specify in order to dispel extreme theories before they're born: no, Ruby Moon didn't give up all of her powers to Touya, the verb used here is simply 補える, "can replenish (your magic)", not "give all".
Tumblr media
Touya doesn't lose his sense of humor even in a dire situation like this, and comments sarcastically "What are you, a battery?", a clear recall to the whole "batteries" matter that came out in the un-rewritten world. Touya isn't supposed to remember about that, and he probably doesn't, but this is just a way from CLAMP to show that even in a situation where memories have been rewritten, some things will be unconsciously said again, because they're just meant to happen.
Ruby Moon calls for assistance from her "brother" Spinel Sun (love how even in these true forms, she still calls him "Suppy"), whom rejects the appellative of "battery" but agrees to give her a hand with "recharging" Touya to keep the spell up a bit longer. Everyone looks outside, only one thought in their minds, which is voiced clearly by a serious Tomoyo: "Sakura and everyone else are fighting with all they've got". I have to point out a typo here in the Japanese version (nothing serious, it can happen and will be surely fixed in the tankobon version): Tomoyo calls Sakura "Sakura-san". I loved the "sparkles" around Tomoyo's eyes, as if indicating that her extraordinary intuition is "at work" and just telling her that, even if they can't see them because they're quite far away, Sakura and the others are doing whatever they can to stop these attacks. And the fact they can see the attacks, but not their friends and their condition, must be really hard to witness, for all of them. But no worries, there's Touya nii-chan who's always ready to lighten the mood even in this challenging situation, joking that "If they don't get back before the curfew, they won't be getting their snacks tomorrow!". Here the ENG adds "squirt" to make Touya refer specifically to Sakura, but truth to be told, in the JP there's no subject, so he might be referring to everyone. It's amazing how he's able to keep his spirit up and be sarcastic even in this situation....he really believes in his little sister so much!
I'll Make Them Forget About You
Tumblr media
Back where our heroes are, the attacks keep coming relentlessly, countered by Syaoran, Yue and Kero in tandem. Sakura reflects on the fact that the only transparent Cards she's got left are these two she's holding in her hands (Time and Rewind) and Flight. This statement leads me to believe that when Record transformed into that crystal that entered her, that meant that the Card completed its duty and disappeared inside of her. But Sakura isn't worried at all, because she knows that she can create more Cards. Yessss, this development that I've been anticipating since quite some time is finally here! ✨🎉 Sakura seems to finally have a concrete plan, but before proceeding, she needs to ascertain something. She asks directly to Kaito: "The people who are using these spells were trying to hurt you, right?". Kaito, with a pensive face, answers affirmatively.
Tumblr media
But it's when Sakura asks again "Were they trying to hurt Akiho too?" that his expression turns really painful, the background after him portraying well his raging emotions and, while Mokona-sensei chose to leave Akiho hidden by Kaito's black wings in the previous panels, now she finally shows how both she and Kaito are holding onto eachother, while our boy answers with a "...Yes" dripping with sorrow. It really squeezed my heart with pain, this scene. Because as long as Sakura was asking about him, his expression was pensive but almost as if it's something he's used to, that didn't shake him too much. But when Sakura mentions Akiho, god, that wrecked him. Any mention, any reminescence of what those bastards did to her and how they were chasing after her to put their filthy hands on her again wrecks him even now, and it's like Mokona with her visual skills is showing how Kaito seems to be holding Akiho a little bit tighter, while he answers Sakura's question. I also have to point out something that I had noticed already from last chapter, but a panel tricked me into believing I was just seeing things: CLAMP here use a dark screentone for Kaito's eyes, that he never had before (actually, no other character in CCS got this effect in their eyes). This effect will be used on him for the entire chapter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it seems like it's the very same screentone that was used for the dragon. I think this might be an indication that the wings aren't the only reminescence of his dragon appearance!
Sakura shows once again an incredible empathy that allows her to go right to the heart of the issue without investigating much. If Kaito rewrote an entire world, and if it's true that Akiho in the previous world didn't have all the love and familiar support she's got now, it means that she was probably in danger too. And seeing as these people are attacking them now because they freed Kaito from his "punishment", Sakura doesn't really need much to make 2+2 and understand the situation. Sakura believes in Akiho, therefore she believes in Kaito too, and knows that if he came to this point it's because they were in a desperate and dangerous situation.
Showing an incredible insight, Sakura shocks both Kaito and Akiho by asking:
Sakura, JP: "In that case, can I make those people forget about you both?"
Because our girl needs to make sure that the plan she came up with won't have any undesired consequences. But most importantly, she needs to have their consent. She reiterates this once again, actually she will make sure to ask Kaito and Akiho's consent 3 times in total. She says: JP, lit. "If going back to before the world was rewritten will put you through hardships once again, then, can I just make them forget?" Kaito is even more shocked, because he finally understands Sakura's intent. A generous, selfless intent born from a loving heart. Our girl wants to make sure that these two will be safe and sound once she fixes this situation. She can't take risks, because their happiness is all she's really caring for right now. And in his shocked expression, I can also see some kind of "omg YES, PLEASE" vibe. Because probably, having those terrible people forgetting all about them is everything he ever wished, but couldn't achieve. And I think it's really funny how we berated Kaito so much in the past chapters for making Akiho and the others forget facts that happened before and forgetting about him, but here Sakura just takes "inspiration" from him and actually decides to use that same "trick" in the right way. Because it's not fair that it should be them, the abused people, to forget about their most important person, in order to achieve a happy life for at least one of them. It isn't fair and it isn't right that Kaito was driven into making all the mess that he made, pushed by desperation. The abusers, that clan and Association of magicians, should be the ones forgetting.
But this is Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card's finale, and Sakura definitely hasn't finished with being amazing yet, she actually just started. Her very strong power at this point allows her not only to see things that were difficult before, but also to connect the dots more easily thanks to that renowned instinct that I've always talked to you about, and that she learned to finally listen to.
Tumblr media
As if she were seeing through him with X-rays, she confidently affirms that there's a book inside of him, a white book where you can inscribe magic on. And she also knows that that same book was inside Akiho, once. I guess this might be even coming from past memories of the unrewritten world (do you remember when, before the play started, Sakura said that she could feel something inside Akiho?). Akiho of course is shocked to hear that, and from her expression you can almost feel the chill that went down her spine in that moment. Sakura affirms that this book knows both Akiho and Kaito (thanks to the fact that it was inside both of them - something that I've always found painfully heartbreaking but also quite moving, for my ship), and it's got a very strong power inside of it. These will be two crucial things for Sakura's plan. In fact, our heroine is hellbent in attempting something pretty arduous: utilizing that artifact's power to create a new Card. For impartiality, I have to point out that the ENG added (completely on their whim) a "you, her special person" that isn't there in the JP version! Of course it's all the better for me, since they repeat (finally with the right adjective) that Kaito is Akiho's special person, but it's kinda funny that they messed it up so much in the previous chapters, and now they're adding it where there isn't any mention of it!
Sakura will be using a tool that knows the both of them, therefore she is sure that her plan will succeed, because the Card will know what it will need to erase. Sakura asks for Kaito and Akiho's agreement one last time. After hearing how those people wanted to hurt them both and even implanted the same magical artifact inside of her, Akiho is quite resolute and doesn't have any doubt: on with the wiping off! It doesn't matter who those people are, they've tried to harm her most important person and her too, so she doesn't really seem to give a damn about proceeding with this plan. Kaito, on the other hand, seems to be giving a more lackluster affirmative reply, but it's not that he's uncertain: he's just still riddled with guilt for all the mess that he's done, and he's probably realizing that now Sakura will need to put herself on the line in order to fix this and protect both of them, hence his sad face.
Still surfing the confidence wave, Sakura guesses that once those people have forgotten about Akiho and Kaito, then the magic arrows will stop too, and Kaito confirms that: forgetting about the person who had the Seal of D enforced on him will be equal to "undo" both the activation of the Seal itself (when Kaito removed the book from Akiho) and also the rescission of it (what Sakura did when she freed Kaito from the cage). This will therefore stop the arrows too, because the Seal wouldn't have been triggered in the first place. However, Kaito warns her that, although time is still barely "stopped" (because the time-stopping spell is still weakly on), it's necessary an enormous amount of power in order to do what Sakura wants to do. I have to point out another inaccuracy in the ENG translation in this part, which makes Kaito say "before things could get worse" and I have the feeling they misunderstood the word 辛うじて, "barely" or "narrowly", which is also written with the kanji of 辛い, "hard" or "tough". So Kaito isn't saying "before things could get worse" but actually meaning "although time is barely stopped".
Sakura doesn't seem to be scared by Kaito's warning, and activates her wand without a second thought, and immediately we can see that her task wil NOT be easy, as she can feel the strain almost right away.
Here we go with another inaccuracy of the ENG translation:
Sakura, ENG: "Great book, please show yourself! My power alone won't be enough...!" Sakura, JP: "The book....doesn't want to come out. (it's too difficult to pull it out) with just my power..."
Basically, Sakura isn't begging the book to "show itself", she's actually actively trying to pull it out of Kaito, and she's aware that it's opposing a lot of resistance, and her power alone isn't enough to take this damn book out. Sakura refuses to give up, because everyone else is doing their best too. Yes, everyone else.
And that's when CLAMP decided to bring us a big surprise for this finale.
Tumblr media
A pair of hands seem to be appearing next to Sakura's, as if a spirit is hugging her from behind. We can see the famous fan that we learned to recognize so well ever since her first appearance in Movie 1. Sakura feels immediately the same magical power of Syaoran surrounding her, and with her instinct she finally recognizes her: it's Syaoran's mother, YELAN!!! We can see her, sweating and all, in her sacred chinese pavilion, lending her power to help in this difficult task.
What a great, welcome surprise for this finale!! You might have heard me saying on Twitter that Clear Card is really a celebration of motherhood, with this constant presence of mothers and mother figures who try to help these kids growing up without removing their right to choose for themselves. And since Yelan is the only mother figure who can concretely help Sakura in this moment, with her immense power, I really loved to see how this woman didn't hesitate to assist her future daugher in law. For any SyaoSaku fan, this scene here is a huge thing. We have seen in the anime how Yelan doted on Sakura ever since she met her in Movie 1, even before her own son realized his feelings for this girl. Yelan and Sakura haven't met in the manga yet (and hello, CLAMP, now this is a good chance for letting that happen, after the madness is over), but the woman didn't hesitate a moment to lend her power. I can really imagine how along these two will get, in the future. ❤️
Sakura thanks her aloud, while her eyes show that she's really really tired. Yelan's assistance is finally effective in summoning the artifact book out of Kaito, and we see again those countless book pages that we saw both when Akiho used to go "berserk", and also in the most heartbreaking scene of chapter 70. Kaito, still holding onto a worried Akiho, seems to suffer physically from this removal, and I can't understand if it's because removing something magical from inside is naturally painful (we've been shown something like that before, Syaoran crouching to the ground in pain while the Sakura Cards were being removed from inside of him) OR if the removal of the artifact also triggered his poor health conditions in which we left him, before he disappeared in chapter 70.
Sakura tries with all she's got and finally manages to turn the artifact into its "true form": a book filled with countless of spells written in strange magic runes.
Tumblr media
You have spotted it, right? ☝️ I haven't seen many fandom reactions yet, but I guess this "cameo" made more than one person scream: it's Fay D. Fluorite's tattoo, yes! This page of the "book" is probably describing the procedure to cast that tattoo (which was also a kind of "seal", if I remember correctly). So that spells exists in this CCS world too! 😅 The magic Sakura is weaving starts "working" on the book, literally removing the spells from its pages and turning them back to their original form of magical books (remember that the Squids used to say that they would inscribe "magic books" and their power onto Akiho?).
Then, solemnly, we hear probably for the last time ever the magical incantation that accompanied us in the beginning of the story, used by Sakura to secure the strange manifestations of power into a transparent Card:
ENG: "Force without master, heed the call of my Staff of Dreams and become my power! SECURE!"
The countless of books and all this tremendous amount of power get secured into the birth of a new Card: BLANK!!!
Tumblr media
Blank got the human appearance of Akiho, but also the protective wings of Kaito. The girl is holding a book (of course, how perfect for her) which is the representation of the artifact that was inside both Kaito and Akiho. This card is really so meaningful for someone like me who loves Akiho and Kaito. It's representing them united in their suffering (the artifact) but also in the hope for a better future (Akiho is smiling and the Card will be used to grant them safety, away from their abusers). I've always imagined that one of the last Cards Sakura might have produced would have Akiho and Kaito's elements, and here it is.
Also, how AWESOME is that Sakura managed to dispose of that damn artifact and succeeded to use it for Kaito and Akiho's sake, and turned it against the monsters who created it??? HOW. AWESOME. IS. THAT!!!!
Producing the very first consciously created transparent Card sucked almost all of Sakura's power and strength, and she's close to fainting, under the terrified eyes of Akiho, who lets go of Kaito for a moment in a gesture of going towards her "sister". But Sakura isn't done yet, no. She can't give up yet because her job isn't done.
And I Will Make Them Remember About You
Sakura wants for Akiho and the people who care about her (the ENG decided to translate this with "the people SHE holds dear") to remember who Akiho really is. She wants basically to "undo" what the rewriting of the world caused on the people who know Akiho, making them believe that she was born into the Kinomoto family and that she was Sakura and Touya's sister.
After pondering for a while and discussing with my friends over at my Discord server, I decided I'm not gonna go out on a limb and assume things from this decision, because I definitely NEED to read the next chapter to see how much Sakura intends people to remember, with this move. It's really not clear at all, as of now.
Anyway, other translation inaccuracy incoming!
Sakura, ENG: "I'm going to make another new card for that...and I might not have the power to do it alone" Sakura, JP: "It might probably be really difficult to create one more new card with my power, right now..."
As you can see, the nuance is different, because Sakura in the JP addresses how it's almost impossible for her to create another new card in the situation she is in right now, exhausted and all.
That's why, very cleverly, she's going to do something different. (My gosh how proud I am of this girl!!)
Saying "But these two Cards will surely help me", Sakura skillfully manages to merge Time and Rewind to create a new Card, not from scratch (which requires more power) but using what she's already got: and that's how the REMIND Card is born!!! The name of the Card originated by just replacing the "W" of Rewind with the "M" of Time. Ingenious, isn't it???

And as the two Cards merge, they give us lots of flashbacks, like the "effect" used here resembles a lot the one that used to happen when Sakura was changing the Clow Cards into the Sakura Cards back in the old arcs, or how the merging of two Cards seems to also be a callback to how the "card without name" and the "Nothing" merged to create HOPE in the very last minutes of Movie 2! What a nostalgic trip down the memories lane!
And the appearance of this Card is even more touching, because it features Syaoran (with his current age) holding Nadeshiko's pendant watch. I found that so sweet, especially coupled with Yelan's assistance to Sakura in this chapter. Yelan associated with Sakura, and Syaoran associated with Nadeshiko. How sweet. And when you think that even Lilie, Akiho's mother, was associated with Kaito, you really can realize that this is some kind of "theme" that CLAMP seemed to be wanting to portray in this story.
I Can't Be On Everyone's Side
Tumblr media
And now, the scene that I think is worth the whole chapter, but probably the whole Clear Card Arc in its entirety. As usual, with important scenes, I'll use the literal translation from Japanese:
Sakura, JP: "It might not be right that there'll be people who will forget things (after this), but....I can't be everyone's friend/ally/can't be on everyone's side. So I won't go back...but actually, along with the people important to me... I WANT TO GO ON"
Wow. Let that sink in.
Sakura, of Cardcaptor Sakura, just came to the realization and spelled out clearly that she cannot be on everyone's side. That she cannot be "everyone's friend", like in a cheesy fairytale.
And I really, really, want to thank CLAMP-sensei for this scene and this line because for a period, long time ago, I was worried that this story would go down the "let's be friends" or "let's show sympathy to them" route. But as the chapters continued and the things CLAMP told us about the Association and the Squids were more and more cruel, and they made me more and more sick, I started to realize that there was simply no way CLAMP could've had Sakura try to justify or compromise with them. Because when cruelty is real, there's no compromise to be made.
This scene also shows how Sakura realizes for the first time ever that in her world, contrary to what we all believed previously, evil exists. It might not touch her or her "entourage" directly (and she's really blessed for that), but it exists out there and it's hurting people, people who can also become really important to her. And she decides to not stand idly by, blessed as she is with the luck of not experiencing that evilness, but actually using whatever it is in her power to bring those suffering people to safety.
Sakura cannot fight those people on equal terms. She's just 13, and although her power is very strong, she's still inexperienced. Moreover, she cannot really bring herself to deny her current nature and use violence on other human beings. That's not Sakura. I want you guys to reflect on this because I know that one of the favorite things expected for this finale was to have a direct magical confrontation with the true villains of this arc, defeating them and restablishing the peace. And I am sincere when I say that I would've wished for the same too, because you know how much I love Kaito and Akiho, and how much I was disgusted to read about what they did to them. I've spread my "burn the squids" gifs all over the fandom. I wanted someone to vindicate them. But not here. Not in this manga. I realized that after the initial satisfaction, I would've probably felt like the series would've been "defiled". And that's exactly what happens when you answer to violence with more violence.
Sakura just could not go hunting those bastards down and defeat them in a magical battle. Because, powerful and corrupted in their greed as they are, the only way to "fix" this situation would've been to exterminate them. I just could not picture this story to cross that boundary, no matter how much the bar had already been raised well over what we initially thought.
So, if someone out there is disappointed by this outcome, I'm sorry for you, but it was just not meant to be and I'm actually really glad that this series kept true to its fundamental values. Of course it would, CLAMP really do care about this series and they know very well how far to push the plot, and when to actually stop.
So what is the role of Akiho's clan and the Magic Association in this story, especially considering that we never saw their faces at all? Talking with lots of fans in these years, especially Japanese, I've come to the conclusion that they are not in this story to fill the "villain that needs to be deafeated" role, but actually they're a representation of abusive families that smother and suffocate their children with expectations, completely disregarding those children's natural inclinations, and abuse them when they do not meet such expectations, but also the society as a whole, that looks at you only basing on how it can take advantage of you. Which is exactly what happened to Akiho and Kaito, driving them to very dark places. The absence of faces for those characters makes it possible for the readers to see the Squids and the Association as the representation of whatever environment they relate the most to. It can be family, society, school, workplace etc... It also helps us focusing on their actions, rather than their faces, and not attribute any prejudice to them (because of religion, race, skin color, or whatever other attribute they could have).
Seeing as the story treats them more like a concept, than an actual entity, it's basically impossible for Sakura to defeat them (and their great power is an indication of that impossibility). Just like in real life, darkness will always exist, along with light. Good and evil will always be side by side. It's bigger than any of us. Then, what can we do, in a situation like this? What Sakura is choosing to do, here, is not to confront directly with violence these people who are way out of her league, and not even to sit back and look, but actually finding a way to make them forget about her friends and keeping her friends safe, granting them the possibility of living a happy life, finally away from the darkness of the past, healing the wounds on their souls together with the people they love and who love them back. Because even if you've been abused in the past, you can still hope for a happy life.
The focus here is all on helping the abused people. And Sakura, in order to do that, is okay with coming to terms with the fact that she can't be on everyone's side, and she needs to choose. In the end, the thing that really matters the most is to GO ON with your most important people. Not going back to what is lost, but going forward. And I know that this is such a CLAMP theme, and I'm glad that they reiterated it in this arc. When I say that Clear Card brought Sakura so much more closer to what's usual for CLAMP, I mean this.
The panel with Sakura raising her staff and shouting she wants to go on is absolutely beautiful, with those wings growing so big and unleashing Sakura's power in a storm of cherry blossom petals.
Tumblr media
Sakura is exhausted, she finally reached her limit by using her ultimate magic. As she faints, her eyes just make it in time to catch a glimpse of her prince, the love of her life grabbing tightly his girlfriend's hand, to not let her fall, while the watch of Remind and the book of Blank do their job in the background. And I really loved this spread too, because even if it's not a conventional romantic scene made of physical display of love, this in my opinion is even more powerful. Many were reminded of Tsubasa, but I was also reminded of the long time those two spent unable to touch one another, and this scene here seems like a catharsis for that hardship they went through. Syaoran will always catch Sakura everytime she falls, he will always be there to grab her hand, no matter if he can really touch her or not. Cause his love is stronger than any kind of impediment. He will always be by her side, no matter what. When she's exhausted by her heroine's duties, she knows that she can always count on him to support her.
And speaking of "always be by her side", I just can't avoid mentioning how Akiho and Kaito stayed "glued" to eachother for the entire duration of this chapter, protecting and supporting one another. Kaito, in particular, kept holding Akiho even as Sakura's magic was hurting him like hell, because it was extracting the book from him. Even in excruciating pain, he did not let go of Akiho, intent in protecting her and keeping her safe in his hold. Akiho let go of him just for a moment when she was scared out of her mind for Sakura, but went back to him when she saw that her "sister" was hellbent in completing her task no matter what. Kaito, as the good "moon boy" he is, is someone who shows his feelings through his actions rather than words, just like Syaoran. And his constant grip on Akiho in this chapter, such an opposite act compared to how he used to stop his hand everytime it started reaching out to her, told me all that I needed to know about him: she's his most important person, and he will never let go of her, ever again.
Sakura wakes up in her bed. The scene is a direct parallel with an almost identical scene in chapter 3, as you can see here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kero is next to her and is relieved to see her awake, so he goes to shout in the hallway, directed to Touya, that Sakura is finally awake. Sakura seems a bit surprised to see Kero talking so nonchalantly with her brother, and he tells her that he chatted with him back at Yukito's house, together with Suppy, so I guess now he finds it "natural" to talk to her brother too! 😂 I'm kinda glad to know that, I like this "change of relationship", compared to the old series (and it was also kinda long overdue).
Sakura opens the palm of her hands and she finds the Dream Key, still intact and all. She also asks about Remind and Blank, and Kero confirms to her that she was able to use them successfully! Sakura is absolutely delighted to hear that, and says "We were able to go on!"
And thaaaaaaat's how the second-to-last chapter of Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card ends! Solving a lot of the pending situations, but still leaving some secondary questions that will surely find a (more or less) detailed explanation in the final, next chapter. And well, we also have to prepare to not have ALL the answers to ALL the questions we might have. This is usual for CLAMP, and especially in their Spaces they never made it a secret that they love for their fans to wreck their brains over theories and imagining the characters' future after a series is over. They love for the fans to give their interpretations to things, they encourage that a lot (also because it creates more long-lasting engagement with their series).
Alas, I expect they'll leave something in particular to everyone's interpretation, but we'll see. 😅
Overall, I really loved this chapter and it was really emotional for me. I think it's fitting for a "climax". Sakura was ABSOLUTELY running the show and after this I dare anyone to say that she isn't the main character of her story. She pushed her limits, and even questioned her own morality in doing so. What a wonderful thing. She reminded me so much of Sakura-hime when she shooted all those monsters in order to take the precious egg, back in the Acid Tokyo arc of Tsubasa. She knew she was doing something bad, but her wish to do everything needed in order to "have him back" was stronger than anything else. And she made her own choice. Here, Sakura, on a smaller scale, made her own choice too.
Now, I hope in the last chapter we'll be granted the possibility to delve a bit more into Kaito and his thoughts, I need to see his character development, I need to see that he learned something from this. That he -at least- started to interrogate himself over the nature of his feelings for Akiho. I know it's reasonable to think that with him, things will take looooong time, but as least show me the signs. Because I need to know that Akiho will be truly happy with him (I know she will!), and she can only be if he's learned to be honest with himself. And learned what Lilie meant with the last conversation we saw between them.
Also, WHERE'S MOMO, I NEED TO SEE MOMO BEFORE THIS ENDS!!
Okay, this is probably the longest post I ever did but I think as the second-to-last chapter it deserved to have some big thematics explored in depth, because they're very important. I'm still pondering if I should divide the post of the final chapter in two because, in addition to even more pages, I expect there'll be soooooooooo much to talk about (cross your fingers with me that there won't be any translation mistake).
I also hope there'll be room for an epilogue or a couple of extra chapters, to help us coping with the separation in a more gradual way, cause after 7 years it's quite hard. I was curious to see the end, of course, but also not entirely ready to let this wonderful story go. I really, really enjoyed it and I say this from the bottom of my heart. I don't care what everyone else thinks, I can only be grateful to CLAMP for Clear Card Arc. 🙏
Chapter 80, along with all the tears that will come with it, is expected to be uploaded on November 29th on CLAMP's Youtube channel. Yes, it's less than a month away! I also expect some news about the anime (BLESS THE ANIME!! Something to cling onto when the manga is over 😭).
Well, see you at the end of November (please come to hold my hand cause I cannot do this alone, lol) !!!

Sam teaching you guitar!
A/N: I've finally gotten around to writing this. Hopefully it's good enough. I do not know how to play guitar so…be warned. Also no offense to anyone who enjoys Wonderwall!!! I just would not enjoy learning the song lmao. From this ask! Song!
TW: cursing? Playful bullying?
WC:0.6k
"Sam, I swear if you make me look stupid, I'll beat you up."
The blonde laughs at your words, the situation was supposed to be cute but after seeing what you learned yourself it was more comical than anything else.
"I won't! I promise! You'll be playing Wonderwall like a pro when I'm done."
"Wonderwall? I asked to learn to play something cute or cool, that way when someone asks me if I have any talent I can say 'yeah the guitar' and pull out my guitar and impress everyone. Not 'yeah i can play Wonderwall' what the fuck?"
"What? Wonderwall's cool!"
You look at him as if he's crazy. If you hadn't already planned all of your day around learning guitar from him you would've walked out, but since you're already here you might as well learn something. So, with all the annoyance you can muster, you allow him to play the song for you so you know what you're learning.
"Okay down, up, down-"
You growl under your breath in annoyance, you had been trying to learn the stupid first verse for an hour now, it had gotten to the point where Sam decided that you should skip to the chorus because no one really cares about the verses anyways when someone is playing the guitar.
The only bright side was that Sam seemed excited to be teaching you, his radiant smile and his voice had admittedly made you want to fall in love with him, even if he was singing a basic song. The way he threw his head back as soon as he got into the music made your mood lighten up during some points, so the entire learning wasn't a bust.
After another 2 hours you had gotten the chorus down well enough that anyone would be able to tell what you were playing. It wasn't good persay, but they would be able to tell. You just hoped that Sam would be with you to keep the vibes up, he would be able to distract from your bad playing.
The two of you go over the chorus once more, Sam was smiling so brightly at you, that you think that you made his week. No one really cared about his music, at least not enough to spend 4 hours in a room with him going over the same couple of chords over and over again. Seb and Abby had their own things, the band was just their side gig, for Sam it was his life.
"There are many things that I would like to say to you, but I don't know how~"
You quirk up your eyebrow at him, amused with how passionate he was being even if your playing was trash. He just grins as he continues to sing.
"Because maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me. And after all, you're my wonderwall~"
You huff out a breath as soon as you finish the chorus, the tension was too much, at least to you in this moment. To relieve yourself you let out a chuckle that you hope is natural. "What's a wonderwall?"
He shrugs, putting the guitar he was holding away, eyes shining as he stares at you. "So…"
Your breath hitches as your mind races with what he's going to say next. You know if he asks for a relationship, you would agree in this moment, even if you would end up regretting it later on. "Yeah?"
"You think you wanna join the band now?"
You groan and deflate in half relief, half disappointment. Your friendship remains unchanged, for now.
"Absolutely not."

Chapter Six: Promises
After the doctor ran several more tests, Jason lay curled up in his hospital bed, too tired to speak. It wasn't until late afternoon that a new doctor came to explain something to Bruce in private. Dick tried to keep Jason preoccupied, asking him questions about figure skating. "Do you like the costumes?" Dick questioned.
"Dick?" Jason mumbled.
"What's up?" Dick asked.
"I know you're trying to be nice, but my head hurts... And I don't wanna talk right now," Jason explained before pressing his face into the pillow. Dick bit his lip before speaking. He would've taken offense, but Jason was terribly sick. Dick rubbed Jason's back.
Dick glanced at the monitors and saw that Jason's fever had peaked, but everything else seemed normal. Jason hadn't been this ill in a while. It felt like all his symptoms were so much worse, and it was mortifying to experience his illness while trying to seem okay in front of Bruce. The room stayed silent until Bruce returned, and he asked to speak to Jason alone. Jason turned on his side and opened his eyes. "Hey, how's it going, Champ?" Bruce asked. Jason gave Bruce a weak thumb's up. "Yeah, it's been a tough two days, but you're still hanging in there."
"No more small talk... I can't skate anymore, can I?" Jason questioned.
"I've got good news and bad news. What do you want first?" Bruce questioned. Jason gave Bruce a thumb's down. "Well, you've got a hereditary autoinflammatory disorder called familial Mediterranean fever, which requires you to take medication for life."
"Was there really any good news?" Jason questioned.
"Once this flare-up is over, the medication will prevent flare-ups in the future. They say it's extremely effective... And they said we caught it in time before it could cause damage to your organs," Bruce explained as he rubbed circles in Jason's forehead with his thumb.
Jason didn't react. He couldn't until Bruce told him everything. "You can skate as soon as you're better," Bruce whispered, "I know that's what—." Jason embraced Bruce and burst into tears. "Easy... We've still gotta focus on getting you well again." Bruce patted his back before tucking him into bed. "They'll start you on the medicine today."
Jason smiled and shut his eyes despite the pain he felt in his legs and stomach. "I'm gonna make you proud, Bruce. I promise," Jason whispered. Bruce frowned.
"I'm already proud," Bruce whispered, "You've been so patient with everyone. I don't know if I could've done the same in your shoes." Jason giggled. "What?"
"My feet are too swollen for my own shoes," Jason joked. Bruce smiled.
"Dick's making a run to get smoothies, so you'll have something on your stomach... Think you can stomach a smoothie?" Bruce asked. Jason nodded. "No pressure..."
"Hey, Coach?" Jason asked.
"Yes?" Bruce asked.
"I'm gonna place. I know. You said it doesn't matter, but I'll be great. Wait and see," Jason replied. Bruce grinned.
"You know what? I believe you," Bruce smiled.
Dick returned with four smoothies, and he offered Jason the first pick. Jason took small sips and looked up at Dick. "Are you gonna—?" Jason took a breath and shook his head.
He finally managed to keep his smoothie down. Bruce nearly sighed with relief when he took the empty cup from a fast-asleep Jason. Jason started visibly sweating. Bruce pulled the blankets back and patted Jason's forehead dry with a napkin. "I wasn't a good parent to you," Bruce whispered to Dick.
"You still had some growing up to do... And it's nice to see that you grew up in time to be part of Jason's life," Dick whispered. Bruce frowned.
"I wish I could make it up to you—."
"Be good to him... That's how you can make it up to me," Dick interrupted, "And I'm holding you to it. Our relationship is contingent on how you treat this kid."
Jason covered his face with his hand, still asleep, and Bruce rubbed his back. Dick went to sleep shortly after, but Bruce stayed awake well into the night.
Jason woke up in tears, trying to get out of bed in the dark hospital room. Bruce caught him and tucked him back into bed. "Hey, hey... I've got you. It's okay," Bruce whispered.
"I don't wanna stay here—."
"Jason, I know you're scared, but it's almost over. Once your fever breaks, we can go home," Bruce reassured.
"Can you sleep up here?" Jason mumbled. "Just for tonight, Bruce?" Bruce nodded and lay beside Jason in the hospital bed.
"You know I wouldn't let anything happen to you, right?" Bruce questioned. Jason pushed his face into Bruce's side.
"What if you can't help it?" Jason whimpered.
"Then I'll do whatever I can to fix it," Bruce replied. Jason settled into sleep, and Bruce allowed Jason to stay burrowed into his side until morning. Bruce slept soon afterward.
Jason woke up drenched in sweat, and Dick offered to get him something to drink. Jason sat up. "Feeling sick again?" Dick questioned.
Jason shook his head as the nurse entered the room. "Good morning, Sleepyhead. Feel up to taking your medicine?" she asked. Jason nodded as he took a pill and washed it down with juice. "Thank you... Breakfast should be on its way any minute now."
"Thank you," Jason mumbled. The nurse checked his vitals and left him with Dick and Bruce. "How come you stayed?"
"Don't know... Maybe I was curious to see if Bruce was lying," Dick replied, "And then I saw you... And I felt horrible."
Jason finished his juice. "Are you gonna stay to watch me compete?" Jason questioned. Dick nodded.
"I'll come back for your competition... And if you place, I'll get you a cake," Dick replied.
Jason grinned, and Bruce stirred. "Jason?" Bruce whispered. Jason looked over at Bruce. "Still too hot?"
"No," Jason replied, "But I'm still thirsty."
"On it," Dick volunteered.
The room grew silent. Jason yawned. "Do you know why I wanted to coach you?" Bruce asked. Jason shook his head. "You love figure skating. I could tell by the way you skate. You seem like you were born on the ice... That's why I don't care if you place or not. No one can take this away from you." Bruce tapped Jason's chest.
"I love figure skating... But I love you more," Jason whispered. Bruce smiled.
"I love you too, Jason... So much," Bruce replied.
"Thanks for keeping your promise," Jason smiled. Bruce nodded.
"Always... Jason, you can count on me, okay?" Bruce whispered as he dabbed the sweat from Jason's forehead. "Okay?"
"Yes, Coach," Jason answered.
Bruce climbed out of the hospital bed and stretched before tapping the bed. "Can I check to see if the swelling's gone down?" Bruce questioned. Jason nodded and allowed Bruce to roll up the blankets to look at his ankles. Bruce lifted Jason's leg by the ankle. Jason winced. "I'm sorry. How badly does it hurt?"
"Not as bad," Jason answered.
"They're not as red and puffy, so I believe you. When the swelling goes down enough, we can go home," Bruce whispered. Jason lay on his side. "Thank you for being so good about this... And thank you for letting me take you to the hospital."
"Thank you for keeping your promises," Jason replied.
