Emergency Love
Request: Okay you're definitely my favorite writer out there ❤️🥺 you're so talented!I dare to send in an idea as well about Connor Rhodes as your latest one was beyond heaven and made my day so much brighter 💖So maybe, you're a paramedic at station 51 and you catch his attention every time you come to the ER but he never gets the chance to ask you out. You also grew fond of him but also think that you'd never had a chance with a doctor like him. One time you bring in a difficult patient and he's really aggressive towards you, so Connor has to step in to get you into safety and also takes care of a little cut wound you got. Being close to each other feels nice to both of you so he finally takes the chance to ask you out and you accept with a kiss 😊
Pairings: Connor Rhodes x Paramedic!Severide!Reader
Warnings: fluff, angst, cursing, blood
Frist Installment- Emergency Love
Second Installment- Blazing Hearts
Masterlist
When you moved to Chicago to join Firehouse 51 you made yourself promise that you wouldn't fall in love with anyone. No matter how handsome the men were. That was until you met Connor Rhodes, the handsome doctor with stunning blue eyes, black hair, and little scruff. He was every woman's dream including yours but you tried to not fall in love but each time you saw him and he saw you the both of you grew fonder of each other.
You, Sylvie, and Gabby had just finished transferring a patient to the bed when you had rattled off their condition. Connor Rhodes was standing off to the side he just looked at you amazed. That was the first time he had seen you and from then on he wanted to take you out, ask you to be his girlfriend, worship you, and just take care of you. As you and Sylvie were pushing the gurney back to the ambulance Connor pulled Gabby to the side "Who is she?" He asked with love in his voice and kept looking at where you had disappeared from his view.
"That is Y/N Severide. She's our new paramedic and a damn good one at that. She is also Kelly's sister." Gabby said and he nodded
"Is she dating anyone?" He asked she shook her head
"Not that I know of, she hasn't really opened up in the week she's been here." She answered him and he just nodded and she took that as her cue to leave and she did. She walked out smiling and you got her.
"What are you smiling at?" You asked her and she just kept smiling.
"Connor Rhodes just ask about you." Gabby said and you blushed you did take notice of him and thought he was nice-looking.
"Are you blushing?" Sylvie asked
"No." You said a little too quickly.
"Oh you like him don't you?" She asked and you stayed quiet as you got into the front seat of the ambulance.
"Shut up and drive." You said and she smirked but did just that. It was true you did like him but with him being a handsome young doctor you thought you weren't in his league. Why would he be asking about you?
Each time you took a patient in he was busy with another patient and each time he was free to ask you out you were gone. But what he didn't know was that you saw him but whenever he looked up you weren't looking at him. You both were growing feelings for each other. Even though you said no to dating after what happened in your last relationship, each time you saw him would slowly break down that wall.
He was devastated that he hadn't gotten a chance to talk to you. The only time you were able to talk to him was when you brought in a patient that he was assigned to and you gave him details, then when you were done and he had looked back up and you were gone and that was his missed chance.
You were thinking to yourself what he saw in you? Why would he want a paramedic when he could have a doctor? You weren't good enough for him or so you thought. What you didn't know was that he thought highly of you and thought you were perfect.
You were at the station sitting with your brother and the rest of your coworkers when Sylvie "So have you talked to Connor?" She asked and that got your brother's attention.
"What about Connor?" He asked curiously.
"Oh just that Connor has asked about your dear sister and seems to have taken an interest in her." She said and Kelly's face was unreadable. Before anyone could talk the bell rang for Ambulance 61 to go out and you were never so grateful for it.
It was a very difficult patient that you were called to a man who was unconscious from hitting his head on the counter. You had gotten him conscious while in the ambulance and he became hostile.
"I don't need to go the hospital." He said angrily and with a glare in his eye.
"Sir, you hit your head and you were unconscious it's the protocol that we take you to the hospital for further observation." You told him and apparently he didn't like that because had grabbed your wrist and pulled it to him in a strong grip. It was starting to hurt.
"I told you him not going to the hospital." He said and it felt like he was crushing your wrist.
"Sir, let go. You are hurting me." You said and that's when Sylvie took over trying to get him to let go of you after 10 minutes you were able to and you grabbed your wrist rubbing it. Sylvie got a restraint and restrained him to the bed. Though that left his other hand open. He then started swinging and you were in his path. His fist connected with the side of your face right at the temple and since he had rings on they grazed your eyebrow, causing a cut. It started to bleed and drip down your eye. Your face turned holding it.
"Y/N are you ok?" Sylvie asked
"Yea, I'm fine." You said as you turned back to her.
"Are you sure?" She asked noticing the blood. You didn't answer because Gabby announced that you were at Med. She parked and got out and opened the door and saw your face.
"Y/N/N are you ok?" She asked but you waved her off. You all worked to get him out and then Sylvie and you were wheeling him into the ED where Connor was. Maggie told you were to go looking at you in concern. You transferred him with help after restraining him.
"I told you bitch that I don't want to be here." He said getting aggregated again.
"Sir, I told you this already we have to take you here because you were unconscious when we got to you." You told him.
"She's right. It's protocol." Sylvie said and that just angered him. Connor must've heard the commotion.
"What is going on here?" Connor asked looking at you with blood running down her face and into your eye.
"I told this bitch. I told you I didn't want to be here." The patient said and lunged for you but didn't get to you because of being restrained. Connor turned to him.
"Sure they were doing their job and it was protocol. You were found unconscious. If you cooperate we can get you looked over and out of here as quickly as possible." Connor said in an authoritative voice and the patient huffed and rolled his eyes.
"Whatever. As long as that bitch doesn't treat me." He said practically snarling at you. You were silent you didn't do anything wrong to him. Maggie walked in. Everyone at Med and the Firehouse knew that you two loved each other.
"Connor, Will is going to take over here. Why don't you look at that cut on Y/N's head." Maggie said and he nodded you looked over to Sylvie and she motioned you to go on and that she got it from here. Connor motioned you to follow him and you did so.
You walked into a trauma bay and he had you sit down on the bed. "He did a number on you didn't he?" Connor asked and you nodded.
"Yea he had rings on." You said with a dry chuckle. He grabbed a pair of gloves and slipped them on. He walked over to you and gently touched your face where the cut was. You winced.
"Sorry. It doesn't look like it needs stitches. I'll clean it up and put a butterfly strip on it and you should be good to go." He said and you nodded. He didn't make a move he was too busy staring into your e/c eyes and you were staring back into his blue ones. Connor was the first one to break eye contact. He discarded his gloves and put new ones on after getting the items needed. He started to gently clean your wound and wiped the blood away. It was silent but it was a comfortable silence. When he got done he applied the butterfly strip and then he looked down and noticed your wrist.
"Yea he grabbed me while we were in the ambulance." You said and he nodded. He picked it up and examined it.
"It doesn't feel like it's broken. If it starts hurting more then you need to have it x-rayed." Connor said and you nodded and he discarded his gloves.
"You got it Doc." You said with a smile. As you got up and were getting ready to leave he stopped you.
"Y/N I wanted as you something ever since I've met you. When I first saw you I thought and still think you're the most beautiful woman that has ever walked into my view. Each time I've wanted to talk to you here, you were gone. I wasn't a believer in love at first sight I am now. I know I'm rambling and I know you have to get back to work and so do I, so I'll just ask this. Will you go out with me?" Connor asked and you were just smiling the entire time. You crashed your lips into his with passion and he returned it with just as much passion, his hands came up to your face. When air was needed you broke apart. "I take that as a yes." He said breathlessly and looking into your eyes.
"Yes, Connor I'll go out with you." You said and smiled "I feel the same way. I promised myself I wouldn't date when I moved to Chicago after my last relationship but I know you will be different." You finished and he smiled. You both exchanged phone numbers and then he reluctantly let you go. When you got back to the ambulance both Sylvie and Gabby had already packed up. You all got into the ambulance and started the drive back to the firehouse. They asked you what happened and you told them and they squealed, and you smiled. They started talking about what you should wear and where you should go for your first date. You sat there smiling.
You had a date with the Connor Rhodes and you couldn't be any happier.

Splintered — Chapter 3
Chapters: 3/5 Fandom: Doctor Who, Loki TV series (crossover) Rating: Not Rated Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: N/A, but I plan to keep it as friendly to both Lokius and Sylkie as I can. Characters: The Doctor, Ruby Sunday, Mobius, Ouroboros, B-15, Casey (Sylvie coming in later) Summary: The Doctor and Ruby find themselves in a strange universe where the timelines are controlled by the God of Mischief. Is it any surprise that the TVA needs help from a Time Lord?
Chapter Index: Chapter 1: I Have a Bad Feeling About This — Length: 2906 words Chapter 2: Ghost Squirrel — Length: 2738 words Chapter 3: Splintered (this post) — Length: 2852 words Chapter 4: Getting the Band Back Together — Length: 2496 words Chapter 5: Intervention — Length: 2496 words
B-15 and Ruby surveyed the destruction around them. Papers were strewn all over the floor, with chairs overturned, folders shredded, coffee cups shattered, and someone’s lunch splattered all over a computer console. A handful of office workers tried to set things to rights, mournfully sorting through papers and wiping down the desks.
“So it just came in here, caused this mess, and then left?” B-15 asked a young woman in a brown vest and thick glasses.
“Um, yeah, except it just sort of appeared in the middle of the room,” the worker replied. “And then it disappeared again. I saw a guy in the elevator do something like that a while back, but this wasn’t quite as…gross.”
“Was anybody hurt?” Ruby asked her.
“No, but I lost an entire day’s worth of work.”
B-15 sighed. “Alright. Thanks Brenda. We’re looking into it.” Brenda went back to cleaning up.
“So it’s still not attacking people. That’s something, at least,” Ruby said. “What she said about the man in the elevator…could that be related?”
“I think she was talking about Loki, when he was timeslipping,” B-15 answered. “That was pretty disturbing, but nothing like what people are describing here.” Her TemPad beeped and she glanced at the screen. “The techs have some residual energy readings consistent with magic use, but the dampeners are making it difficult to get anything more specific.”
“And turning them off would be a bad idea, yeah?” Ruby asked.
B-15 nodded. “If this is some sort of attack, we don’t want to make it easier for whoever’s doing this.”
Ruby paused, then said, “Okay, I’m just putting this out there… Could Loki be doing this? I mean, this qualifies as mischief, right?”
“Well, I suppose he could — he’s outside of the TVA and he has that kind of power — but I’m not convinced he would.” B-15 gestured at the mess around them. “This is just mindless chaos. He usually did things for a reason, and I can’t think of any reason he’d want to attack the TVA.” Her expression darkened. “Besides, if he’s had a change of heart, I hate to say it, but he probably wouldn’t go out of his way to avoid hurting people.”
Ruby’s eyes widened. “He was that bad?” B-15 nodded. “Okay, next question… Does this have something to do with what’s happening to the branches?”
“A lot of strange things have been happening lately. First, branches start getting cut off at the root. Second, a ghost squirrel is wreaking havoc all over the place. And third,” she looked pointedly at Ruby, “two strangers show up in a blue box, claiming to be from another universe. I don’t like coincidences.”
“I swear to you, the Doctor and I don’t have anything to do with this. We’re just trying to help.”
“I’m inclined to believe you, but I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t keep my mind open to all possibilities.”
Ruby nodded. “Of course. I understand. So, what now?”
“Maybe your friend can get us some more useful information about what’s happening at the roots. At least then we might have some idea if it’s connected to the squirrel.” B-15 chuckled and shook her head. “The things I hear myself saying these days. Working here used to be so much simpler. I mean…evil, but simpler.” ----------------------------------------------------------------
“Alright, that’s the last of them,” the Doctor said as he climbed out from under the Tardis console. “Let’s fire her up and go visit your friend in the tree.”
“Can we do that?” Mobius asked excitedly. “Actually go talk to him?”
“Oh, sorry, I meant that figuratively. I don’t know if it’s even possible to get to him. My guess is he’s in the densest part of the trunk — we probably can’t fly through there without damaging the timelines, and it would be too risky to try to materialize inside of it. That much chronon radiation would confuse the Tardis sensors.”
“Oh, right, of course.” Mobius tried to hide his disappointment, but the Doctor took note and silently resolved to keep an eye out for any opportunity to engineer a reunion.
The Doctor pulled a lever on the console. The Tardis groaned as it dematerialized, and Mobius looked around nervously. “Is it supposed to sound like that?”
“My favorite sound in the universe,” the Doctor replied, grinning. “Any universe.”
After a few moments, the groaning stopped, only to start right back up. “Short hop,” the Doctor said as the groaning died down again. He flicked a switch on the console and Yggdrasil appeared on the wall screen.
Mobius stared at the image on the monitor, his expression unreadable. The Doctor left him to his thoughts as he brought them closer, heading toward the roots of Yggdrasil. The bright ‘foliage’ at the top disappeared from view as the darker, murky underside filled the screen. Formless dark clouds drifted in the space between the thick roots, which were further apart than the branches above. The Doctor was able to pilot them through the roots to position the Tardis directly below the center of the tree. The view on the screen panned slowly around.
“So what are we looking for?” Mobius asked.
“Not a clue, mate. This is brand new territory for me. Basically, we’re looking for anything that could endanger the branches.”
“Right. Got it.”
They continued watching. Everything seemed still and peaceful.
“Hard to believe we’re looking at the beginning of everything,” Mobius said. “Everything that ever existed or will exist, in any timeline. It all starts here. At least, that’s what they told us at the briefing after— what was that?”
“What was what?”
“I thought I saw something move. Can you move the camera back a bit?”
The Doctor turned a knob and the view panned in the opposite direction.
“There! Did you see it? Like a flash of green. Behind that cloud.”
“Yeah. I saw it. Let’s take a closer look.” The Doctor used the sonic to zoom in on the image. An elongated strand of green emerged from the darkness of the cloud, twisting and moving between the roots of Yggdrasil, wrapping itself around them. The Doctor moved to the console viewscreen and typed a series of commands. “Whatever it is, it’s pure energy, but the sensors can’t determine what kind.”
“Pretty sure I can tell you that. It looks exactly like Loki’s magic.”
“I’m going to get closer, see if we can get more detail.” The Doctor piloted the Tardis toward the anomaly until it filled the screen. At one end of the glowing strand, they could make out a distinctly snake-like head.
“You think that’s what’s damaging the roots?” Mobius asked.
“It doesn’t seem to be doing anything at the moment,” the Doctor answered. “But this is ringing a bell. I need to check the Tardis database, but…”
He typed in another command and scanned the results. “Right, of course!” he yelled excitedly, startling his companion. “It’s Nidhogg, the serpent that gnaws at the base of the World Tree!” He knocked his own head a couple of times with the flat of his hand. “I should have thought of that. Granted, it’s been ages since I visited the Norse. I’m getting old.”
Mobius laughed. “Old? Pfft. What are you, twenty-five, thirty? Talk to me when you hit fifty, pal.”
“I’m older than I look. As are you, I suspect.”
“Got me there.”
“Wait,” the Doctor said, stepping back and staring into space, hands raised in front of him. “No!” He turned around. “Yes, of course, that’s it!” He turned back, punched the air, and pointed at Mobius. “Ratatoskr!”
“Excuse me?” Mobius backed away a little, clearly worried that his life was now in the hands of a madman.
“The squirrel. Don’t you see? The squirrel is Ratatoskr. It runs around the tree, talking to an eagle at the top, then back down to the roots where it talks to Nidhogg. It delivers messages between the two, but it’s mischievous so it lies about what the other said, just to aggravate them.”
“Okay, so does the eagle have a weird name too?”
“Probably, but nobody knows what it is.”
“Right. So what now?”
“Now, we check out the top of the tree. Bet you anything we find our nameless eagle up there.”
Mobius shrugged. “Sure, why not?” He seemed anything but convinced. He watched the wall screen as they moved out from under the tree, followed the trunk up, then navigated around the edges of the branches.
“It really is beautiful, isn’t it?” Mobius said quietly.
“Breathtaking.” When they reached the top, the Doctor added, “I’m scanning for the same energy signature we got from the serpent, but the whole tree is giving off some amount of it — which makes sense if Loki is the source. Just need to look for a spot where it’s more concentrated. There!” He changed the view on the wall screen and zoomed in on an area at the very top of the tree.
Eventually, they could make out a greenish blob that slowly resolved into the shape of an eagle, perched on the top-most branch and staring out into the empty nothingness.
“So what does the eagle do?” Mobius asked.
“Nothing much, at least according to the mythology. It just keeps watch over the tree.”
Some movement caught their attention and they watched as another greenish blob moved close to the eagle. When it stopped, they could make out a distinct squirrel-shape. “Jackpot!” the Doctor yelled, startling Mobius once again.
After a few moments, the squirrel began to scurry back down into the tree. The Doctor frantically typed in some more commands.
“What are you doing?”
“Locking onto the squirrel’s signature. We need to follow it and see what it does. We can’t get into the branches there, but we should be able to catch up with it when it reaches the trunk.”
They eventually spotted the squirrel on the trunk of the tree and followed it all the way down into the roots, where it stopped next to the serpent. Again, the squirrel paused for a few moments, then scurried off again and vanished. Probably making another visit to the TVA, the Doctor thought. Nidhogg, meanwhile, began to thrash wildly and wrapped itself tightly around one of the roots. The magical serpent began to gnaw its way through the root.
“It’s killing it!” Mobius exclaimed. “Can’t you stop it?”
The Doctor shook his head sadly. “Nothing I can do, Mobius. The Tardis isn’t equipped for that sort of thing, and I’d probably just cause more damage if I tried.”
They watched helplessly as the serpent gnawed through the root entirely, causing both ends to darken and wither.
Mobius sighed. “Well, now we know what’s happening to the roots.”
“Yeah.”
“And there’s nothing we can do?”
The Doctor thought for a moment, then said, “Tell me more about your friend. You know him better than anyone, right? What motivates him? What makes him tick?”
“Whew, it’s complicated. He’s complicated. That could take all day.”
“If you had to sum him up briefly?”
“Well, I—“
The phone on the console rang and the Doctor punched a button next to it. “Ruby! How are things at the TVA?”
Ruby’s voice came out of the console speaker. “Not much to report. A lot of messes, but nobody’s been hurt. They still think it’s magic—”
“Yeah, we just confirmed that.”
“You saw it at the tree too?”
“Yep, along with a couple of its mates.”
“Did you find out what’s happening to the roots?”
“Yes,” the Doctor answered, nodding to Mobius. “We’re heading back your way shortly. Much to discuss. Take care, babes. See ya soon.”
“Bye for now!” Ruby answered, and the call disconnected.
The Doctor turned to Mobius. “So you were saying? About Loki?”
Mobius shook his head. “Honestly, I don’t even know where to start.”
“Let me ask you this, then. Do you know if he was prone to self-deception?”
Mobius burst out laughing. “If I were a psychologist, I could write a book on that topic alone and make a fortune. I mean, Loki lied to everyone, all the time, but especially to himself.”
“Go on.”
“He actually had the nerve to accuse me of doing that. I mean, okay, he was right, but still… “ Mobius checked himself and continued. “Anyway, yeah. He had a really hard time being honest with himself, especially about what he really wanted. He was getting better, though.”
The Doctor smiled. “It probably didn’t hurt that he had a good friend helping him, someone who really knew him and cared about him.”
“Well, it wasn’t just me. Sylvie probably had a lot to do with it too.”
“Friends can make all the difference. Believe me, I know.”
Mobius nodded.
“Did he used to spend a lot of time alone?” the Doctor asked.
“He did, but that was part of the self-deception, I think. He’d been told over and over that he deserved to be alone, would always be alone, and I guess he eventually believed it. So he would do everything he could to push people away before they could push him away. But he didn’t really want to be alone.”
“And then,” the Doctor mused, “just when he’d found a group of friends who didn’t push him away, he sentenced himself to an eternity of solitary confinement, for their sake.” He shook his head. “And they used to call me the Lonely God.”
“Right. Yeah.” Mobius swallowed hard. “So, what are you getting at, exactly?”
“I have a hunch. Total solitude isn’t healthy for anyone. Probably not even a god. We all need friends, or family, to keep us from spiraling. Help us see what’s important, what’s real and what isn’t.”
“And?”
“So what if your friend is struggling, all alone in there? He did this,” the Doctor gestured at the image of Yggdrasil on the wall screen, “for the noblest of reasons, holding your entire multiverse together, but maybe he’s finding it harder to hold himself together. I think maybe his psyche is splintered.”
“Splintered?”
“The eagle, the squirrel, and the serpent are clearly coming from him, his magic. What if the eagle is his best self, keeping the multiverse safe? And the serpent represents his darker, destructive impulses. And the squirrel, well, that has ‘mischief’ written all over it — especially with what it’s been doing at the TVA — but it’s also self-deception. It’s him unconsciously lying to himself, so that the serpent is undermining everything he set out to do.”
Mobius blew out a breath. “That makes sense, but if that’s the case, what can we do?”
“We have to come up with some way to communicate with him. Help him pull himself back together. Problem is, I scanned the tree while we were exploring. There’s no way I can get to him in the Tardis.”
“Damn.”
“If we just had a way to use the branches — or better yet, the roots — to talk with him… I don’t know how we’d manage that, though. A timeline isn’t like a wire you can just send signals through, and going into the timelines, well, it would just filter through as noise. And even if he heard it, it would only be one-way.”
Mobius stared unhappily at the image on the screen. A dark cloud slowly moved across, temporarily obscuring the view, and his expression brightened. “Wait… I think there might be a way to contact him!”
“What’s that?”
“Sylvie. She has this ability to enchant people, or creatures, to read their memories, or control them. Maybe she could use it to send and receive messages through the roots.”
The Doctor looked skeptical. “Enchant an entire timeline? I’m not keen on that idea, even if it’s possible.”
Mobius shook his head. “Not that. I don’t know exactly how it works, but she managed to enchant a giant cloud monster once, so maybe things don’t have to be solidly connected. If she could just use the timelines to touch Loki’s mind, maybe it could work.”
“Would she do it? From what B-15 told us, she doesn’t want to work with the TVA.”
“Pretty sure she’d do it for Loki. And the multiverse. This whole thing, bringing back free will, was her glorious purpose long before Loki entered into it.”
“Glorious purpose?”
“It’s, um, a Loki thing. They’re all convinced that they’re ’burdened with glorious purpose’.” Glancing at the wall screen, Mobius added. “Some of them are more right than others.”
He paused for a moment and seemed to deflate. “There’s just one problem with the idea. Enchantment requires physical contact. She’d have to actually touch one of the roots, and she told us she doesn’t have the ability to do that. She couldn’t understand why Loki could, but if Casey and O.B. are right about him being unmoored from time and space, maybe that explains it.”
The Doctor smiled. “I think I can help with that.”
“Good, good. We’d better get back to the TVA. The council will want to know what’s happening and somebody will need to talk to Sylvie.” Go to the next chapter

Okay Loki S2 E5 Reaction/ Review Time
SPOILERS AHEAD BEWARE
"Science / Fiction"
OH MY GOD THAT TITLE
I cant believe I was right about all of them being scattered across different time line branches, Loki having to get his friends back and them not having memories of him :O
Also the fact that the fans predicted Casey to be a dangerous / criminal because he was always so gentle in the TVA and then we see him breaking out of freaking Alcatraz?! And the fish references too XD
B15 being a Doctor was so freaking wholesome, she really just wants to help people whetevee she is :D
OB being a Scifi Author and Scientist was just perfect XDDDD
AND WE FINALLY GOT MOBIUS ON A JETSKI THIS IS A WIN FOR THE FANDOM
And again, the fact that the fans immediately predicted that Mobius was a (single) dad in his life, because they spotted a couple toys in front of the house in the mid season trailer :D
(I could literally hear the fanfiction authors melt into a puddle at the potential of Loki x single dad Mobius XD)
And the fact that he isnt just a Dad, no he is a SINGLE FATHER of TWO SONS
The freaking parallel of Mobius' two sons and young Thor & Loki?!
One being a lil mischievous prankster and the other (most likely the older) one who has to keep him out of trouble?! And the fact that he said he loves snakes?!?! That is just straight up a Thor reference?!
No wonder Mobius knows how to deal with people like Loki XD
But as much as I like the parallel of the two sons, I also feel kinda weird about what it could imply for Mobius, like does that mean he is supposed to be a mirror or opposite of Odin? A version of a dad that didnt mess up with their parenting? That this is why Loki feels drawn to Mobius? Is that what we were supposed to conclude from that?
I know we joke about Loki liking older men, and of course Loki has his daddy issues, but if Mobius is an opposite of Odin then what does that mean for Lokius?
Now to some more lore related stuff:
Can I just say that the spaghettification effect is absolutely terrifying?!?! (as stupid as it may sound) Seeing people get spaghettified fills me with just as much dread as the Dusting from the Snap, but it is so much more horrifying because it looks so brutal compared to how "gentle" the Dusting effect is....
Then Loki & Sylvie's talk about being selfish, about their own wants & needs
"Whats wrong with wanting sth?" - she asks Loki, but in reality, has Loki ever gotten anything he truly desired? (At least L1130 hasnt, man went straight from the Events of Thor 1, to Thanos to the New York attack, he was never able to mend his relationship with Thor or find friends...)
Now... Sylvie, she still frustrates me.... I do get that she wants a life, but you cant just stab or ignore your way out of everything... plus their world is still ending as a matter fact...
It literally took her fav lil branch getting wiped out, to realize that she was wrong, that Loki was right all along, and that was AFTER she had just convinced Loki to give up his quest... because "wanting his friends back" would make him just as "selfish" as her wanting a life... But the difference is, that while Sylvie would chose her life, instead of helping fix everything, ignoring the casualties it brings, Loki would be self sacrificial enough to give up his own needs, which he literally was about to do, until Sylvie got back because she finally wanted to help avoid the impending doom that threatened to destroy them all.
I think we all kinda knew Loki's drive wasnt necessarily saving the TVA, but wanting/ needing his friends back and wanting to keep them save, but Loki actually admitting that he "wants his friends back, that he doesnt want to be alone"
THAT BROKE ME
Especially with the motive of "no one deserves to be alone" but the Lokis only ever having themselves to find comfort, and if they tried to change that, the TVA showed up to prune them, loneliness was literally what drove Classic Loki out of his hiding and into the arms of the TVA.
And Loki saying "Without them (his friends), where do I belong?"
I didnt know it was possible, but that broke me even more... he just wants a place where he is wanted and safe...
Then the time slipping, Loki being able to Control it?! IS THAT HOW THE MCU INTRODUCES LOKI BEING A WORLD WALKER?!
Loki realizing "Its not about the when, where or why. Its about the Who" (god that part was so sweet, right in the FEELS, it was so over for me, my heart cant take much more of this)
And finally Loki chosing to rewrite "The Story"... actually "Play God" thats now full confirmation of Loki God of Stories right?! RIGHT?! I wanna see my boy, God of Stories Loki is one of my Fave Lokis :DDDD

Line: "Could end in burning flames or paradise." Location: backyard
Let's go AU again. This time a REAL departure.
***
A magazine is thrown down on the bar top next to Matt. He skims it just enough to read the cover. It's a tabloid. One of those that claims to have inside sources but never does.
CASEY TO RETIRE AT END OF CURRENT SEASON.
"Looks like you're out, old man."
He rolls his eyes and slides the magazine away, a dry grin on his face as he stares down at his whiskey. "We're the exact same age. If I'm retiring so are you, Severide."
"Yeah, but I'm not the face of the franchise," Kelly says, grabbing Matt's chin and smushing his cheeks. "I mean look at this face. They're all obsessed with it."
Matt shoves his best friend and teammate away. "Get off me, jackass."
"Oh, come on, we won! Why are you sitting at the bar brooding like a sad sack of shit?"
He glances over at the rest of his team, celebrating their win with their partners and spouses. Even Kelly's wife is here, partying with them in their coach's backyard, and she's a professional soccer player with her own team to lead.
"I'm trying not to be a downer. You all have people to share our success with, you should enjoy it."
"Whatever, man," Kelly says with a scoff as he grabs Matt's whiskey glass and holds it away from him. "You have us. We're not just a team. We're a family. Come on. Donna invited the new Team Doc. She's commanded you show your face and be polite."
"I'm always polite. It's you Donna needs to worry about. Will you gimme my damn drink back?"
Severide laughs in his Captain's face and hands him back the glass. "You're polite unless you're in a mood like the one you're in tonight."
Donna Boden spots them and waves them over. "Boys, come and say hi."
They cross the yard, toward their head coach and his wife. This backyard is more a special event space than a backyard. Donna had it landscaped specially for team gatherings and it includes a pool, a bar, and an outdoor kitchen. They're invited over a lot.
The closer they get, the better a look Matt gets at the new Assistant Team Doctor. His feet hesitate, causing Severide to bump into his back. "Maybe I should take that whiskey back," Kelly snipes with a crooked smirk. "You alright?"
When Boden said they were getting a new team doctor Matt just assumed the organization would hire another older guy full of dad jokes and football trivia. But no. That's not who he finds waiting to meet them. Instead, it's a woman. A young blonde woman in a blue wrap dress and matching heels. Her smile and laughing blue eyes stun him, keeping his feet glued to the ground.
"Casey?" Kelly asks, shoving him lightly. "You gonna walk or am I leaving you here?"
He shakes himself, forcing his eyes away from the woman’s face. “I’m walking. Just gimme a second.”
He knocks back the rest of his whiskey, leaving the glass on a nearby table. With that out of the way, he shoves his hands in his pockets and finally continues forward. He has no idea what to do with his hands so best to just hide them away. It’s a good plan until Donna goes in for a hug and he can’t refuse without being rude.
“How’s my favorite quarterback in the league?” Donna asks.
He chuckles as he steps out of the hug. “I’m good. Working hard, staying focused.”
“Well, it’s working. Keep it up,” she encourages before passing him to hug Kelly as well. They nod at Boden instead of going in to hug him or shake his hand. “Guys,” Donna starts, walking over to the new doctor and putting an arm around her shoulders. “Have you met Sylvie Brett? She’s our new Assistant Team Medical Doctor.”
“No,” Severide says, reaching forward to shake her hand. “Not yet. Welcome to the team.”
“Thank you,” she tells him, smiling politely. “I’m officially a traitor to my family but I’m happy to be here.”
Kelly laughs. “Not a Chicago fan?”
“I’m from Indiana, so…”
“Yeah, say no more. I understand.” Kelly pats Matt on the back, hard enough to send him jolting forward. That’s what happens when one of the toughest tight ends in football, claps a hand against you with no warning. “And this guy is our Quarterback and captain, Matt Casey.”
She holds her hand out to him as well. Matt stares at it for a long series of seconds, knowing full well his hand is clammy. Why the hell does this woman make him so clumsy and nervous? He discretely tries to wipe his hand on his pants before putting his hand in hers. The minute their fingers touch, tingles shoot up and down his arm. What the fuck is happening?
“Nice to meet you,” Sylvie says before nervously biting the inside of her bottom lip, drawing his stare toward her mouth.
For a moment he pictures biting that bottom lip for himself, but then he realizes he looks like a creep -- continuing to squeeze her hand while staring at her lips. “Yeah, you too. We’re glad to have you.” He lets go of her hand, even if everything in him rebels against the action, and steps back.
“It’ll be nice to have someone with more of a bedside manner than Abrams,” Kelly jokes, referencing Sylvie’s boss and their Head Physician.
“Oh, him?” Sylvie says, waving a hand dismissively. “He’s all bark, no bite. We’ve worked together before. I can handle him.”
“Well, now that we’ve made introductions,” Donna says. “We need to go see to our other guests and check in on the caterers.” She turns to Sylvie with a concerned glance. “Are you okay here?”
“Yes, I’ll be fine. Please do what you need to do,” Sylvie assures her. “I’m sure these guys won’t mind showing me around.”
Boden and Donna leave, hand in hand. Just as they leave, Stella shouts for Kelly from her seat by the fire pit. “Sorry,” he says, shaking Sylvie’s hand one more time. “When the wife calls, I go. If I stand her up then I’m in deep shit.”
Sylvie chuckles and nods. “I understand. Casey and I can manage.”
Can they? He asks himself. He hasn’t managed to pull himself together long enough to say more than a couple of sentences. “Uh, yeah, we’re good. Go spend time with Kidd. She flies out tomorrow.” They watch Severide walk away in silence before Matt motions ahead of him, allowing Sylvie to walk first. “How about we start with a tour? Donna’s really worked hard to make this place feel like a family space for us.”
“I can tell,” she says, looking over toward the small garden and outdoor eating area. “It’s beautiful.”
Not nearly as beautiful as she is, not that he can tell her that.
“So, what brings you to Chicago if you’re an Indiana girl?” He asks.
She blushes and looks down on the ground, suddenly interested in their feet as they walk. “Well, it was either move or let my ex make my professional life a nightmare. I chose to move.” She pauses, eyes wide in shock. “I don’t know why I told you that.”
“Your ex sounds like a class act,” Matt comments sarcastically.
“Yeah, Harrison was a real winner,” she scoffs with a roll of her eyes. “But I’m here now, thanks to Dr. Abrams recommendation, and I can’t wait to get started. I’m excited for new challenges.” There’s a beat where her eyes scan over the length of him and then intentionally look away. “New people, places.”
“You’re gonna love Chicago,” he promises. “It’s my favorite city.”
“Favorite of all time?” She asks, grinning teasingly.
“Of all time in the whole world.”
“Wow, well, my expectations are officially high.”
“If you want,” he offers, shoving his hands in his pockets again. “I could show you around. Give you the official Matt Casey approved tour. I gotta make sure we clear those expectations I set, after all.”
“That sounds wonderful,” she agrees, demurely tucking her hair behind her ears. “We should make it happen.”
“Yeah?”
“Yes, for sure.”
The smile at each other and twin flirtatious gazes meet.
He can’t help but admire the way the color in her cheeks extends down her neck, turning her creamy fair skin a pretty shade of pink. He wants to trail kisses over that path of pink and see where it leads.
Damn, it’s been a long time since he’s had it this bad so fast. He went from depressed and moping in his loneliness to giddy and smitten. The whiplash has his head spinning. Or maybe that’s just Sylvie sending his head spinning.
Something big is starting tonight. He can feel it.
He doesn’t know how it will all end up, but he reckons there’s two options.
Burning flames or happily committed paradise.
He’s willing to roll the dice. He hopes Sylvie is too.

i am a HUMONGOUS BOOKWORM. my favorite authors are Jennifer Lynn Barnes and Tahereh Mafi and I usually read fantasy, mystery, dystopian, all of that sort of stuff.
along with being a bookworm, i also LOVEEEEE music. without music, i really don't know how i would function.
i love astronomy (space), psychology (mental function), astrology, photography (photos) and etymology (origins of words).
in terms of music, i legit have no specific genre i listen to. it could range from taylor swift to green day to the neighbourhood if i wanted to. the whole premise of my music taste is everything i do like versus everything i don't like.
My Favorite Musicians - Taylor Swift, The Offspring, The Neighbourhood, Olivia Rodrigo, Halsey, Katatonia, Lorde and probably a whole lot of others but these are my main ones right now.

4.
The shift started quiet, with only two calls before lunchtime: a cat stuck in a tree and a young man going into cardiac arrest.
Otis was cooking sloppy joe's when the bell rang, calling Ambulance 61, Truck 81, Squad 3, and Engine 51 for a warehouse fire. Everyone ran to their vehicle, even Chief Boden.
Severide was practically whooping in his seat. Finally, a big call.
-
When they pulled up to the scene, they watched as a part of the roof collapsed, sending up a cloud of dust and smoke. Boden took charge, ordering Squad inside and Truck to assist. There were two victims still inside, one stuck in a railing, shelves on top of him. The other - his best friend - stayed to try and help him. A warehouse worker told them all of this, looking terrified, before running to the paramedics.
The two crews suited up, heading for the back of the building. Engine started on the flames closest to the trucks, turning them from bright orange to a somber black, the charcoaled wood shifting around as it snapped.
Inside, the rescue teams reached the victims, moving the relatively uninjured one first, promising him they would save his friend. Gabby and Sylvie intercepted him, the man coughing due to smoke inhalation. He tried to go back in constantly; the medics had to put restraints on him.
"Why do you want to go back in so bad?" Brett asked, applying burn gel to the scorched flesh on his arm.
"He-I-" He paused, trying to find the words. "I love him. I didn't get to tell him." He put the oxygen mask back on, discouraged.
Dawson looked at her partner. "Yet," She spoke. "Casey and Severide will get him. We promise."
And they did, eventually. Using the saw, the crew broke through the man's bonds, pulling him out slowly so as not to cut his neck on the sharp metal of the shelves.
He gained consciousness just as they were about to head out, saying there was a third victim, a young intern, just a little ways away. Casey went after her, ordering the others to take the man outside. They moved quickly; Chief was shouting about the whole roof collapsing now. Severide called after his boyfriend, asking him to come back, and when Matt didn't respond, he ran after the blonde. The Lieutenant tripped over a piece of metal, falling to the ground, his ankle twisted and air coming in short breaths.
Meanwhile, Casey was helping the woman up off the floor, kicking debris out of his way. He didn't see the other firefighter on his way outside; the man's wind knocked out of him. As Casey handed the victim over to Gabby and Brett, he looked around for his partner. He walked over to Chief, asking, "Where's Severide?"
Boden, confused, responded, "I thought he was behind you."
"O-Oh, my god. He must still be in there. I've got to go get him." The roof started trembling, pieces of it falling, the eaten-through wood crumbling. Chief grabbed the Captain's jacket, preventing him from going into the collapsing building.
Minutes later, the dust settled, a PASS-alarm ringing loudly in the alleyway.
"Truck, Squad, in there immediately for a Search and Rescue; Severide is trapped."
The walls were still intact, with a small crawlspace around the whole building. Every firefighter was in the warehouse, calling out for the Lieutenant.
Eventually, Casey found him in the office, a giant piece of concrete on his chest. Severide came to for a little while, speaking to Casey in a punched-out voice.
"Matt." He coughed, wincing. "I can't breathe."
"I know, baby, I know. Try not to talk. Okay?" Matt called out for Capp and Cruz to help him with the rock.
They got it off, almost breaking the injured man's hand in the process. By the time they returned to the ambulance, Severide had lost consciousness again.
Casey felt like everything was moving in slow motion as a pair of medics rushed to the man's side, pushing the blonde out of the way. Ripping open his coat and cutting the shirt underneath, he caught of glimpse of Sev's chest, which had caved in a full inch.
After that, he couldn't see what they were doing, pulled away by Chief Boden in a tight hug.
The tears were falling now, wetting the older's bunker coat, as Casey let his emotions run free.
As Ambo 61 pulled out of the scene, the others following it, the Captain prayed to any higher power that Kelly would be okay.
--
Casey's arm rested above Severide's head as he woke up.
He turned his head, seeing his dozing boyfriend in a chair and practically draped on Kelly's side. He blew air in the Captain's face, gently bringing him back to the land of the living.
Matt made a disgruntled sound when he opened his eyes, but seeing Kelly's face helped him relax. "Oh, hey, how are you doing?"
"I'm great." Kelly smiled.
"No, he's not; he has a bruised lung and rib, a concussion, and a sprained ankle." A nurse piped up from the side of the room. She held an empty food tray and a clipboard in her hands.
Casey shook his head, leaning forward to kiss Severide as the woman left.
"Well, what about you, babe?" Kelly asked. "Is this a bandage on your head, or are you just happy to see me?"
Chuckling, he touched the white cloth. "Just a scratch, promise."
They heard a knock on the glass, both turning to see Chief Boden. "Hey, the nurse said you woke up. Good to see you, Kelly."
"Thanks, Chief. Where's everyone else?" Severide asked, not seeing any other members of house 51.
"At home. You were out for three days. Casey was here the whole time, right?"
Casey nodded, blushing when his boyfriend looked at him. "You didn't tell me that."
"Yeah, I um-"
"Took off shift and going on the water with me to stay with you, in case you woke up." Boden wore a tiny smile, knowing he was helping Casey earn brownie points with Severide.
Kelly gripped Matt's face, pulling him for a chaste kiss. "I love you."
"I-I love you too, Kelly." They both smiled softly, Matt ghosting his lips over the other's cheek.
-
Soon enough, everyone else got to the hospital, bringing flowers, balloons, "get well soon" cards, and chocolate. They all hugged him, or at least tried to, his ribs making him wince every time, though he appreciated the support.
Dawson was talking to the doctor as Kelly and Matt spoke absent-mindedly to the others, hands clasped tightly together next to Kelly's head. She missed when Casey got up to go to the bathroom, kissing Severide on the forehead before leaving.
She missed when Hermann asked, "When are you two gonna get married? Christ, how long have you been dating now?"
Severide thought about it. "I'm not sure when we really started dating. Could have been a couple of years ago or nine months ago when we told you guys. We always sorta had a thing, if you know what I mean."
Everyone nodded collectively, going back to their conversations.
When Casey returned, the doctor told him Kelly would need at least a month to recover and a prescription for pain meds. He also insisted he stay under observation for two or three more days in case he went into a coma again or his ribs collapsed.
After three extended days at the hospital, they discharged him, telling Casey the other man needed two weeks of bed rest, with someone watching the brunette constantly.
"Finally," Kelly exclaimed as he, Matt, and Stella entered the loft.
"Home, sweet home," the woman said, heading to her room.
Kelly grabbed Matt's hand and walked to his own room, pulling his partner along. They fell on the bed together, Matt snuggling up to the larger man. He closed his eyes, appreciating the feeling of having the other back in his arms.
Laying in comfortable silence, Kelly carded his fingers through Matt's hair; their hands joined on his hip.
"I want you to move in with me." He said eventually, looking down at the Captain.
"I kinda have to now, if I'm going to watch you."
"Oh, really. And who said that job falls to you?"
"I'm the dutiful boyfriend. It's in the job description."
Kelly hummed, feeling his eyes slip closed as Matt shifted closer.
They fell asleep, anchored by each other's touch.

Sylvie
It was something Tommy had told me when I was a little girl. The flicking of the switch in our brains. He'd used the metaphor to explain our mams suicide to me when I was too young to understand anything about depression, anxiety and those twisted intrusive miseries that so often drive people to their early graves.
I'd told him I didn't understand why she'd done it. Why she'd walked herself into the cut like that and left me and Sunny playing in the street. Why she'd let us watch. Why she'd let herself freeze. And that had been his answer. That some families are born with a switch in their heads, and that things can tick along just fine for a very long time, and we can be happy and full of love, and then one day the switch ticks over and a person changes. That they stop feeling like themselves, that they get a bit lost... That they can do things without really thinking or noticing what theyre doing... He'd said that thats what had happened to our mother. Her switch had flicked over because she'd been very sad for a very long time. Id asked him if his was going to do the same and he'd smiled, lifted me up to sit on his hip and kissed my cheek.
"No love, not mine, gonna be here with you forever I promise..."
And I'd believed him. Back then I'd believed him desperately. Now however I was an adult, I'd grown to understand the Shelby disposition, I'd grown to understand that it was a little more complicated than Tommy had let me believe back when I was a girl.
Because it wasn't just misery that could flick the switch, and when it did change and the current flowing through you changed with it, it was more than just "not feeling like yourself" that shook you. It was a heavy sinking feeling that slowed you, left you split down the middle and wrong on both sides. A little piece lost forever when the crack ran down your spine, so that even when the switch flicks back the other way, you're never the same. Never whole, never completely fine.
In the past I'd seen Arthurs switch change, I'd seen Tommys, Id seen mine. Id felt the split in the hollows of my bones and the digits of my fingers. That heavy seperation. Nothing grounding you. Mind severed from the body, body left wandering.
Id felt it before but never like this. Never over something as twisted with sorrow and bitterness as this.
Usually the switch flicked off at the smallest - to others- seemingly trivial of incidents. A lower than expected grade, failure to make even the short list for an audition. Seeing on of the other girls make a step more elegant and delicate than I could. Usually the switch flicked and I did my usual, took advantage of the numbness, pushed myself harder whilst I couldn't feel the hurting. Less meals, training harder, less sleep, lies told to Sonya and Ada, lies told to my doctor and teachers too. When I couldn't feel the hurting I could dance on injuries and grit my teeth through gruelling long days and nights.
Now however the hollow felt deeper, lodged somewhere in my ribs like a bad seed and the plan I'd pieced together in my head was far more dangerous only because I was far more certain I could see it through. Even if things didn't go my way.
When I brushed past Isaiah and made my way quietly to the bedroom it was Arthur I was thinking of still. His shakey voice, his determinations all but dust by the time Tommy had finished laying into him.
It was the thought of the tears in Arthurs aging weary eyes which had split me this time. It was the image of my big brother, trembling with rage and dissapointment, trembling with ley down, that kept me calm and quiet and steady as I wandered to the windoe frame and turned to face Isaiah.
"You're going to take me to london," I said plainly, looking at Isaiah with an unwavering certainty. My voice so quiet, so serious that for a second he didn't know how to respond. He looked at me with the beginnings of a smirk on his lips as he took a step back, the smirk becoming a hesitant chuckle, the grin lingering on his face awkward but amused as he waited for me to start laughing too.
"Oh no," I said my lips twitching with the smallest smirk, "please don't do that," I said holding his gaze, watching him wavering, "Don't think I'm joking Isaiah cause I'm not... You're gonna take me to London to meet with Alfie Solomons..."
"No," he chuckled, "fuckin no sweetheart, I'm not..."
"You are."
He kept grinning, turning away from me with a laugh of disbelief, shaking his head as he closed his eyes and sniggered into his sleeves.
It should have been infuriating, I should have been upset, but that switch had flipped and so instead I felt nothing. Just stood there, leanibg back against the cool glass in the bay window, tilting my head back to feel the mullions. Just waiting for him to realise I wasn't laughing.
"I'm not love, cause I don't wanna be skinned alive by your fuckin brother right? And if I go downstairs now and tell him I'm taking his fuckin baby fuckin sister off to London to meet with a fuckin king pin, your brother will skin me alive and feed my fuckin corpse to the dogs..."
I let out a disinterested sigh, tapping my fingers on my collar bone slowly, meditatively.
"You're not going to tell my brother you're taking me, dinlow."
I spared a glance out the top corner of my eye, noticed a damp shadow on the cieling high above us.
"Tommy charged you with my protection did he not?" I asked.
"Aye which is exactly why you ain't going to fuckin Camden..."
"Then you'll take me to London," I said with a shrug, ignoring him when he tried to contradict me, raising my voice just slightly when he tried to deny me again, "because if you don't... I will fuckin throw myself from this window yeah?" I said, my hand behind my back flicking the latch undone, a gentle pressure all it took to open the glass like a door stepping out to nothing but grey sky and grass pollen.
The breeze blowing in around my body is what swept his grin from under him. The cool air hitting his face, forcing him to look me in the eye and try to work out if I was winding him up. If this was some kind of Shelby trick. And perhaps it was, it just wasn't the kind you could smile about and it certainly wasn't think kind he'd have expected from me. The naive girl he'd grown up with, the one who hadn't been able to look him in the eye since she was ten years old.
"Nah," he said, his voice shaking with a nervous laugh, "love don't do that..." he was watching me, hesitant to believe me and yet, I could tell that he did. I could tell that he recognised the shelby resolve in me. That he was probably thinking of my mother just then as I edged just leaning over the window pane. Not enough to destabilise me. Enough to scare him.
"Seriously love... Come on Sylvia you ain't fuckin funny come here..."
"I'm not being fucking funny Saiah..." i said, "You're going to agree to take me to London or I'll let myself fall."
He looked at me then like he didn't recognise me. Like for a second he thought he was looking at somebody else. I held his gaze, my eyes glazed with a seperation Isaiah had only seen in my brother Tommy before. A death sentence kind of emptiness. The shelby resolve as I'd heard my father call it once before he'd left us.
"Say you'll do it Isaiah, quickly... Make your mind up or I will fucking fall!"
Now I knew he believed me, his hand shaking by his side, his eyes dark not with fear but anger in the moment before he grabbed me by the scruff of my shrug and kept his grip tight so that I couldn't do as I threatened.
He didn't move me from the ledge however, just held me there, his fist clutching my cardigan. It wouldn't actually be enough to stop me if I chose to let go of the window frame.
"You're fuckin stupid if you think I believe you for a second lass... You ain't suicidal over a fuckin ballet and I don't know what you think you need to see fuckin Solomons for but you ain't going... I ain't fuckin riskin me neck to take you alright?" he hissed, not raising his voice, not really scaring me like I imagined he wanted to as my hand slipped unseen under his tshirt, nimble fingers wrapping round the grip of the pistol tucked into the back of his jeans.
"Fall from this height won't kill you anyway love but I promise you you'll never dance again..."
He didn't feel a thing, too caught up in the glare he held, his hand still shaking as he held my flimsy cardigan in his hand, to notice my subtle movement until it was too late.
"Guess I'll have to make fucking certain then right?"
Until I was pointing his gun at my head, cold eyes determined to stare him out until the end.
He faltered when he realised what I'd done but only for a moment, making to knock the gun from my hand, forgetting I'd been pulling nimble little stunts since I was four years old. Not realising the damage I could do in the second it took him to make his move.
I'd brought my knee up swiftly and he'd be keeled over before he could process what I'd done. Knocked all the air out his lungs and left him stumbled back, holding onto the bedpost to stabilise himself. No longer holding into me at all.
"I said make your mind up Isaiah, I know you aren't stupid... You know I'll do it..."
He was wheezing when he looked up at me, his eyes struggling to open, in too much pain to speak properly though he tried.
"What the fuck do you want with Alfie fuckin Solomons?" he said through a wince, still clutching his groin, standing slowly, regarding me with hesitance then, "jesus Sylvia would you put it down?"
"Not until you tell me you'll take me."
"Right... Right... And what's stopping me shouting for your brothers right now yeah? Calling them up here..."
"I'll have hit the ground before they make it up here," I said with a small smirk, a shrug which disturbed him.
"You're fucked up Sylvia..."
"Yeah,"
"This is fuckin... Its fuckin unhinged love put the fucking gun down!"
"Keep your voice down Sai, wouldn't want anyone disturbing us..." I said lowering my voice to a deadly kind of quiet, my calm reminding him of Tommys calm. The quiet insane. The certain kind.
"Syl please... Lower the gun eh? Don't be daft sweetheart lets, lets just fuckin talk about this for a second eh? Please love..."
I'd never seen Isaiah beg before and the sight amused me, I couldn't hide the small smile which tugged at my lips.
"Nothing to talk about Isaiah... Help me with this or watch me fall... You're being awful hesitant Sai, starting to think you won't mind either way..."
"Jesus fuckin... For fuck sake Sylvia!" he groaned head in hands, "fuckin...fuck, fine... Fine I'll take you to Alfie's, but just fuckin promise me first yeah, if I do this you'll give me the fuckin gun and you won't ever point that thing at yourself again alright?"
"No," I said, "get me one of my own, I like it..."
"What?"
"Get me one of my own and I'll give you yours back... otherwise how will I know you're not just going to go straight to my brothers?"
He starred at me in disbelief, jaw hung open, face still stuck in that half cut expression of discomfort. I hadn't just scared hjm, hadn't just caught him by surprise. He really wasn't sure, in that moment, he really wasn't sure who he was talking to. He just knew it wasn't the Sylvia Shelby he'd known all her life.

HWR's mess. Every single step of the way, right up til the very last second. Sylvie never had a Nexus event. He engineered his own destruction by viciously traumatising a young girl and turning her into a weapon who was hunted every day of her life for over a thousand years, living in the shadow of death and destruction and knowing every single person she met was already dead. The blast doors couldn't be reopened because Miss Minutes was gone, carrying out his failsafe (Victor Timely) specifically as an object lesson to force the outcome he wanted.
He really thought he was 10 steps ahead of everyone. He showed the exact same hubris that Loki did in episode 2, and in the end that was his undoing.
All because Loki refused to follow the script. He rewrote the story. He won. And not to get all Doctor Who about it but everybody lives. Just this once everybody lives.
The fact that Loki spends centuries alone trying to fix the mess Sylvie made only to actually end up alone in the end. The fact that he basically becomes a stranger to Mobius because of it. The fact that even when he wins, he's doomed to lose.
The fact that Mobius can't bear to stay at the TVA once Loki is gone. The fact that he goes to his original timeline to see what Loki is trying to protect. The fact that he has no place there, has no purpose at all anymore. Waits for the spark.
The fact that Sylvie is the only one who gets what she wants. The fact that she doesn't even have to face the consequences of her actions because Loki does it for her. The fact that she gets to be selfish and happy in the end while Loki and Mobius don't.

Chicago Fire Season 5 Ep. 20 "Carry Me"
Casey helps Kannell in a big way. Severide helps an old widow move on, but realizes he may need help. Otis and Cruz find a new roommate. Dawson and Brett save a young girl.
If you want to watch the series for yourself, stop reading! This post contains spoilers to the storyline.
Lt. Kelly Severide is in Anna's hospital room. The doctor says her numbers are good after a couple of chemo sessions. Severide wants to stay with her, but she says he should go to work.
At the firehouse, Lt. Matt Casey meets with Chief Wallace Boden. Casey tells him that Jason Kannell is trying to take the blame to protect Doyle's memory. Casey wants to delay the hearing so they can convince Kannell to change his story. Boden agrees.
Joe Cruz and Otis come into the lunch room talking about needing another roommate. Sylvie asks if she can move in. Stella jokes that everyone in the firehouse likes to live together. Herrmann says she's like the rest of them because she asked Severide to move in with her. The alarm sounds. Everyone leaves.
They arrive at a house fire. Severide finds an older lady and takes her to safety. The firefighters search the house. They find her coughing on the floor. On the stretcher, she tells Severide her house is her whole life. He promises to save what they can.
Casey and Boden meet with the fire chief to discuss the Squad 6 sewer tunnel incident and how they'd hate to lose Kannell. Casey says the death of the firefighters was not Kannell's fault, but Doyle's. Casey says Kannell couldn't have been responsible. He thinks Kannell is only taking the blame so his wife and child will think he died a hero. They suggest another way to keep Kannell as a firefighter and honor Doyle.
Kidd sees a frustrated Severide and learns he's looking for homeopathic remedies for Anna's chemo side effects. She tries to comfort him, but he looks sad and she tells him to tell Anna she's in their thoughts.
Sylvie tries to be a roommate, but Cruz doesn't want a woman. When she says she can tell a dirty joke, Mouch asks to hear one, but she doesn't. She asks them to write down any questions they have for a potential roommate. If she passes, she can move in. The alarms sound again for EMS.
Gabby and Sylvie find a young couple who had broken into a rock climbing place. The man has rope burns, but the woman has spinal fluid coming out of her ears. She can't squeeze Sylvie's hand. Gabby says there's a gap between her skull and C1. Gabby holds her still as she learns they've only known each other for a month. Sylvie and Aiden put her on the gurney and use the straps to secure her.
Severide gets a visitor at the firehouse. She is Hope Norwich, the daughter of the woman he rescued that morning. He learns she only had minor smoke inhalation and has returned to the house, even though it has been deemed unsafe. Her daughter doesn't want the police to remove her from the house.
Otis and Cruz ask Sylvie about dating Cruz and having a moment with Otis. She makes three parking permits for their apartment if they make her their roommate. They welcome her.
Severide visits Anna at Chicago Med, following Kidd's advice and bringing her a burger and fries. They say "I love you," but Severide is worried Anna's fever is back. She says everything else is fine. He tells her about saving the older woman that morning. Anna says it's not about the house. It's about what you're scared of losing and what you want to let go of. She cries, but he says everything will be fine. She tells him to find out what he can about the things, and he will be able to help her. Severide laughs at how well Anna knows him.
Casey tells Kannell he's cleared and the death was caused by faulty equipment. Kannell says it wasn't like that, but Casey doesn't understand. He says he watched three men die and is done with the CFD.
Severide wakes up in Anna's hospital room and sees a DNR sign on the door. He asks the doctor about the DNR. He says it's not his job to tell Anna not to give up. They're both optimistic, but if the treatment stops working, extreme measures won't help. He tells Severide to go home, shower, and come back to encourage Anna to keep fighting.
Casey talks to Gabby about Kannell. He's frustrated and feelsl like an ass trying to pressure Kannell to not quit. Gabby says he shouldn't quit.
Severide visits Mrs. Norwich at home. He says Hope came to see him and it isn't safe for her there. Ellie says she's lived in the house for 37 years and thinks it'll last a few more. She asks Severide what his story is. Severide says the woman he loves has cancer, but she'll beat it. She says true love makes life worth living. She and her husband Hal built this house, but he died suddenly a year earlier. She cries about how hard life is when all you have are memories. She encourages him to make as many memories as he can. He nods and they laugh when she calls them "two sorry sons of bitches!" Ellie asks him to take the stove from the kitchen and take some flowers to his girlfriend. He looks at the wall where her daughter Hope grew up.
Sylvie is cleaning the kitchen. Otis likes how clean it is, but Cruz is worried about moving his door chair stuff. She says everything is in the closet. When he opens it, everything is organized. She says it's easier this way, but he mutters it's not as easy as his door chair. Sylvie is disappointed.
Casey returns to Kannell's house and says he's been there. He has lost people too, but if he gives up on those who don't make it, he'll give up on all the ones he could save in the future. He tells him to find him at the CFD when he's ready.
At the bar, Cruz is told to throw out an unruly patron. When he resists, things get physical and he runs out with blood on his face. His boss fires him because he didn't order Cruz to hit the patron.
At the firehouse, Mouch wants to know how Cruz could have known. Sylvie offers to pay rent early to help. Cruz says she ruined his life. Herrmann and Otis tell Cruz to calm down. Cruz feels like he messed up, while Sylvie sits sadly in the locker room.
Another accident: a car crushed by a tree branch. Severide gets the backboard and blankets and saves the man from being crushed by the branch. Boden tells Severide the hospital called with news about Anna and he needs to go right away. Severide leaves for Chicago Med.
Severide is greeted by Anna's doctor, who says the infection has taken over and her immune system is too weak to fight it. He says there's nothing more they can do but make her comfortable. He tells Severide to say goodbye to Anna now. He leaves to see her. Anna asks if he went to see the lady from the house. She thanks him for the last few months. He asks her not to say goodbye. They're going to beat this. Anna says she isn't and asks about the lady. Severide talks about how she talks about her husband all the time. They were married for 37 years, so she won't leave the house. Anna says she can't leave. Severide asks her what she's saying as she fades. Anna says she can't carry the house on her shoulders. He asks her to stay, but she says she has to leave. He nods and carries her. The alarms go off. He kisses her and begs her not to go. He asks the doctor to help her, but he says they can't. Her father comforts Severide as the doctor announces Anna's time of death.
Severide stands looking out his window as the firehouse crews fill his fridge with food and drinks.
Casey tells everyone to leave Severide alone. Gabby tells him to call if he needs anything. Kidd stays and sits with him. She hands him everything from Anna's bulletin board. She says Anna's father said he should have it. She pats him on the shoulder and leaves. Severide leaves his apartment and gets on his motorcycle.
Cruz is surprised Sylvie put his things back on the chair. She says she didn't want to make things worse and she's almost done packing. Cruz apologizes, and Otis asks her not to move out. She asks if they're sure. Cruz says they stick together and hug it out when things get tough.
Kannell arrives at the firehouse and jokes that he should consider politics. He can't go back to 53 because the house is empty without the firefighters. Casey offers him a job at their firehouse, saying it was the people there who helped him through tough times.
Severide arrives and opens his tool bag to show Ellie the panel with the markings. He says she can't stay, but she can take that so her husband can be with her. He says Anna died and hugs her as she offers her condolences. She asks him to help her pack, and he agrees. She packs away her wedding photo as Severide looks on. She holds the panel as she remembers old times.

What is the plot of teaching feelings?
"Teaching Feeling" is a visual novel game developed by Freakily Charming and published by Dekiru Translations. The game's plot revolves around a doctor who runs a clinic in a small city. One day, an odd man appears with a young girl named Sylvie, whom he gives to the doctor as a way to repay a debt. Sylvie has been abused and traumatized by her previous owners and is in need of care and love. It is up to the player, as the doctor, to help Sylvie heal from her past and learn to trust again.
Sylvie is a slave who has been subjected to years of abuse and torture. She has many scars on her body and is initially standoffish and emotionally distant. However, as the player progresses through the game and takes care of Sylvie, she begins to open up and trust the player. The player can interact with Sylvie in various ways, such as buying her clothes, feeding her, and giving her head pats. These actions raise Sylvie's affection and lust levels, eventually leading to sexual encounters.
The gameplay in "Teaching Feeling" is slow at first, as the player must grind to raise Sylvie's affection and lust levels in order to unlock new clothing options. The player must also be careful not to make choices that will lower Sylvie's affection or cause her to die. For example, if the player does not feed Sylvie full meals or give her enough head pats, she will become ill and may die.
One unique aspect of "Teaching Feeling" is that the player must physically touch Sylvie's body on the screen in order to initiate sexual encounters. This can be jarring for some players, as it is not a common feature in most visual novel games. However, it adds to the overall immersive experience of taking care of and building a relationship with Sylvie.
Overall, "Teaching Feeling" is a rewarding and unique visual novel game. The player must earn sexual encounters with Sylvie by building a relationship with her and taking care of her. The game is slow at first but becomes more engaging as the player progresses and unlocks new clothing options and interactions with Sylvie. The game's focus on healing and building a relationship with a traumatized character is a refreshing change of pace from other visual novel games that often focus on more explicit sexual encounters. While the physical touch feature may be off-putting to some players, it adds to the overall immersive experience of taking care of and building a relationship with Sylvie.

Weekend Top Ten #606
Top Ten Time Travel Stories
I probably should have written about this last week, when the show actually returned to Disney+, but I wanted to do something about Loki. I think the series has been one of the most popular of the MCU TV shows so far, and whilst (for me at least) it wasn’t as experimental as WandaVision or as fresh as Ms. Marvel, it’s still one of the most consistent shows they’ve done, with some terrific new characters in the likes of Mobius and especially Sylvie, and probably on balance the best designed Marvel show around (skinny ties for the win!).
Anyway, at its heart it’s a story about time travel; time travel so pervasive and all-encompassing that it ends up creating the MCU multiverse. But there were parts of that first season that felt like a weirdly off-kilter episode of Doctor Who, as a foppish Brit tooled round time and space accompanied by grumpy sidekick. And this got me thinking about a topic that I’ve rather amazingly (unless I’ve cocked up my reckoning) never covered before: time travel stories.
I’ve always loved time travel stories, as far back as I can remember. Part of it was the thrill of seeing other times and places; as a kid, I especially liked visions of the future. But also, from a young age, I loved the trippy, timey-wimey nature of the stories; whether it was changing history in a way that was reflected in the present, or some kind of pre-ordainment that allowed for all manner of amusing hijinks (something I still refer to as a “key moment” because of Bill & Ted). Basically, I think I can put all of this down to three things: Terminator, Back to the Future, and Target: 2006, all of which are reflected here in this list.
The way time travel stories can depict alternate futures or allow for our characters to interact with the past in interesting ways has always been fascinating, and it’s something I just adore about the genre. I love the different rules that you have to concoct for time travel; like how in Timecop you can’t touch your past self for some reason, which I like to think of as “Chekov’s Ron Silver” (also in that film: Young Ron Silver is cut on the face, instantly making a scar appear on Old Ron Silver). Or the way in Transformers there could only be a certain amount of matter occupying the timeline so if you went into the past, due to “mass displacement” someone was shunted into a limbo dimension temporarily. And, of course, there are tons not on this list; books (This is How You Lose the Time War!) and comics (Days of Future Past!) and films (Looper!) and games (Day of the Tentacle!) that I just could not find room for. So many really cool ideas explored via the medium of time travel.
Not much more to say, really, other than let’s have at it. And as Einstein rather melancholically intones in the intro to the sublime alternate-timeline adventure Red Alert, “sooner or later, time will tell”.
The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991): I feel like these are the big guns of time travel, with their dystopic future, characters with a glorious destiny, high-tech robos, and an intriguing mix of the preordained and “no fate”. If you’re feeling shallow, the notion of a killer cyber-skeleton from the future with its skin suit coming back in time is a cool hook; but the unpicking of what we can change about our destiny versus what’s already “happened” is intriguing, because obviously if they change the future in T2 then there’d be no Terminator to get sent back, so no Reese, so no John, etc. These first two films are both masterpieces in their own right and classics of the genre.
Doctor Who (from 1963): this feels a little rote, oddly enough, because it’s an entire sixty-year-old show where one of the main hooks is they’re in a different time every week. But let’s be honest, that’s a hell of a hook. And there are some terrific ways in which they play with the ramifications of that; I could wax lyrical about Time Wars and fixed points and stuff like that bit in The Day of the Doctor when the “youngest” version of the Doctor starts a program running in his screwdriver so the “oldest” one can use the finished program, but I’m just gonna link to this fantastic explanation of the Bootstrap Paradox. God, I love this show.
The Transformers comics (from 1984): right, this one’s a bit of a cheat, because the comics have been going forty years and across (at least) four big publishers, but by Christ this was a biggie. Simon Furman’s Target: 2006 and its aftermath (literally ending in something called Time Wars) brought a character from the future into the present day and really introduced Little Me to the ways in which you could mess with time and space in a story. It’s phenomenal and I doubt there’s a British Transformers fan in their forties who wasn’t massively influenced by this story. Flash forward three decades, and James Roberts does something similar but very different in his Elegant Chaos arc, which sends the main characters back in time and not only seeds the future stories in interesting ways (this thing you thought was a thing was actually one of our guys from the future!) but ends up creating the entire Transformers multiverse and setting up the series Big Bads from the “Functionist Universe”. Phenomenal.
Back to the Future (1985-1990): the other biggie from my childhood. The first film is still a masterpiece in scriptwriting, but the properly wobbly time stuff happens in the other two films (especially part II). Tricks such as the vanishing photo are great representations of the perils of time travel and a fantastic piece of narrative sleight-of-hand, and we get great gags like “your kids are gonna love it”; but as well as offering a wild and exciting vision of the future, Part II has the barnstorming notion of integrating the characters into the events of the previous film. It’s just ingenious, hilarious, and a technical spectacle. Then the next film is a Western, which rocks.
The Time Traveler’s Wife (2003): a passionate, earnest, heartfelt, tragic love story that feels incredibly real and true – but is also a trippy time travel thing. A bloke is randomly pulled through time, keeps meeting the same woman at different points in their history, and they fall in love. Has some great notions as their lives slide in and out of sync: she meets him when she’s a child but he’s already married to her in the future; he meets her when he’s a student but he’s been present in her life for years at that point. Beautiful and profound, one of my favourite love stories. Also has a bit where, as a teenager, he shags himself.
Bill & Ted (1989-2020): full disclosure, I’ve not seen the latest one yet, but the first two have some terrific uses of time travel. Even the very notion of using a time machine to visit different periods in order to pass a history test is inspired lunacy; as is the concept of these two arseholes needing to be saved because they’re the ones who’ll eventually save the world. But the bit where they deus ex machina themselves out of a predicament by basically saying “when all this is over we’ll go back in time and leave a key here under this rock” is genius.
12 Monkeys (1995): another one where there’s a really cool, dark, sumptuously-designed dystopic future that we’re trying to avoid. This excels in being trippy, though, as poor old Bruce Willis doesn’t know down from up as he’s pulled back and forth in time, using piecemeal clues to search for a cure to a plague that destroyed the world. The slowly-emerging truth about what’s happening, and the gut-punch rug-pull ending, are darkly phenomenal, but despite it all it seems to end with just a sliver of hope.
Avengers: Endgame (2019): ah yes. Of course. Here we are. But there are two big reasons why I love this film and its use of time travel. One is the almost Back to the Future way it revisits scenes from previous films. The other is its depiction of time as a solid thing; you can’t change the future by changing the past, you just create other branches of time. This allows them to dick about in the past with impunity, bringing forward the older, eviller versions of characters. And, of course, it has the courage of its convictions to stick with the wild decisions it makes.
Star Trek (from 1966): like Transformers, another series filled with different depictions of time travel. I love the fact that in the future, time travel is relatively commonplace – people know it happens and different ways to accomplish it – but still rare and kinda exciting. Really, though, I want to talk about two films: The Voyage Home and First Contact. Both see our established crews journey to the past, but other than that they’re quite different. There’s a lot of great comedy in Voyage with our heroes navigating the “present day” of 1986; Contact is still set in a future but really uses time travel to examine things about the Federation and our characters. And, let’s face it, the scores of other films and episodes make time travel a fundamental part of Trek.
The Return of Bruce Wayne (2010): just pipping other great time travel epics to the post, we have this brilliant story about Bruce Wayne Quantum Leaping his way through history (and that was another show that only just missed the cut). The notion of Batman being a caveman or a pirate or a cowboy is interesting in and of itself; but the way Grant Morrison seeds in the future history of the character, or grapples with wacky metaphysical concepts, is incredibly entertaining.

It’s very telling where the MCU is in terms of quality when MoM is literally months away from coming out and yet people care more about the cameos rather than the actual plot (not to mention completely ignoring the light-washing/de-aging of America Chavez, an Afro-Latina lesbian woman and the whitewashing of Wanda’s Romani/Jewish heritage that has been going on since AoU)
Not to mention how everything that fans have praised about NWH is things from the old Spider-Man films. Hell, even with Thor 4, there’s more talk about Valkyrie’s sexuality and her “finding her queen” rather than anything about the main antagonist or plot.
And don’t even get me started on the disaster that was the Loki series and how supposed loyal fans can watch Loki be tortured and humiliated and call it “therapy” while they go and worship a female variant of him that’s about as interesting as watching paint dry.
The MCU only cares about putting out as much content as possible just to make a fast buck. It’s honestly sad considering how in Phases 1 and 2 they seemed to care about the characters and making each movie have a unique feel to it. Now everything feels the same, everyone acts the same and there’s no sense of individuality or creativity anymore.
I fully believe that Age of Ultron was the beginning of the end for the MCU, cause that’s honestly where things started to go really wrong in my eyes.
People focus more on Wanda in MoM then they do Strange.....and its his film. Like, I still ain't a huge fan of Doctor Strange's first film, cause whitewashing seems to LOVE this particular set of stand alone MCU films, but like.....no discussion of Strange or Wong or ANY Doctor Strange characters and elements, just Wanda and the cameos and its just....dam, kinda feel bad for Strange Stans right now. MCU be like with ANY character of color at this rate.....mainly oddly the woman of color from comics: "Can we get a whiter version please?" Like, shout out still to the Funko of Miss America for....actually making it worser. Dunno how, BUT THEY DID. And we all know why they suddenly mixing up the Young Avengers ages....given Young Avengers had members who are gay and in Loki's case, genderfluid, but well, MCU won't allow rep to full be seen so already betting we won't even see lesbian Miss America....
And with Wanda, its like......thanks, you failed in casting 101 as she is white as fuck in MCU, has the power to lose her accent and isn't Jewish cause no Magneto means no Jewish twins I guess.....no wonder she's appearing in MoM, she fits right in with whitewashed Ancient One and lightwashed!Miss America. No Way Home's entire hype was literally the old villains coming back. Like, people screamed more at the pumpkin bomb being thrown in trailer followed by Doctor Octopus' appearing with, "Hello, Peter", then the rest of the trailer, and if that ain't obvious that No Way Home was hyped soley on the cameos, then the aftermath of people soley focusing on Andrew's Peter and Tobey's Peter is obvious enough. Given MCU cut Valkyrie's Bi scene....I am VERRY skeptical off chances we'll see Valkyrie romance Jane, but....I'll wait until trailer I guess, but yeah....looking at any hype on Love And Thunder, its just kinda Jane's return and Valkyrie finding a queen....but in all honestly, given the Guardians are also taking over a plot in this film, I dunno what I'd prefer to be hyped at this point.
I hate Loki Show....so much. Like, keep in mind, up until that point, I'd been hopeful for it and TFATWS, cause even from trailer I knew I wouldn't like W/V, and first trailer for Loki? Yes, but watching the actual show? It was suffering. It wasn't about Loki like promised to fans, it was about him being basically secondary to Sylvie's journey and suddenly he's in love with her and while she can just, do whatever she wants without much happening, Loki get's literally tortured as a form of therapy.....and people ship Loki with the guy who did it.....thanks, I hate it. And don't get me started on Sylvie. She's literally an OC, a mashup of the two Enchantresses and....Lady Loki, cause genderfluid Loki was toooooo hard I guess, and she's just impossible to watch cause MCU makes her into a girlboss.....while also sprinkling in some incest/selfcest, but better not go too far....or stans will call me biphobic again for hating their ship.
Yeah, nowadays mcu is kinda just interested in cramming whatever movie or show they can really. Phase One-Two at least seemed to think over the films and such, but nowadays its like, "WANT A HAWKEYE SHOW?! WANT A SHE HULK SHOW?! WANT A CHRISTMAS AND HALLOWEEN SPECIAL?!" like.....its just there until MCU is basically beyond dead....well, more beyond dead then it is already.

- Chapter Six
For the first time in a while Firehouse 51 was having a quiet shift. Aside from the callout to the Clifford residence they hadn’t seen much action today, which of course was a blessing in disguise as Brian was trying to work on the marketing plan for Molly’s. The problem was he was still trying to teach himself Photoshop, which turned out to be harder than he anticipated. He’d spent the last few shifts watching YouTube videos and trying to figure out how to finetune the pictures in just the way he wanted them. Which was what he was doing when Gabby dropped into the seat across from him, just back from the trip to Chicago Med.
“You went out to that scene this morning, right?” Gabby asked him, her finger hooking around the gold chain around her throat and toying with the pendant.
“Yea.” He told her, his tongue sticking out of his mouth on the left side as he manoeuvred the mouse so that he could trace around the image of a Long Island Iced Tea. “Looks like they pumped in Nitrous Oxide through the ventilation system, not something I’ve seen before. Ingenious really.”
“Did you see the girl?” She asked, peering at him over the top of his laptop.
The screen in front of him blurred, the textures slipping out of focus as the shapes contorted and the colours clashed together. There was a tension in his shoulders, he could feel it creeping up his spine as he was taken back to that bedroom. To the seafoam walls, the pink bedspread, the blood. He had a niece, Anya, around the same age. She had Justin Beiber on her walls too.
“Is she doing, ok?” He asked, ignoring the tremor in his voice as he shut the laptop.
Being there in that room and knowing what had happened…
It had shaken him more than he wanted to admit. It nauseated him to imagine what that child had been through, what she was going to endure moving forward. He didn’t know how Kat did it, seeing the worst that people could do to each other day in, and day out eroded at your soul. It took a strong person to shoulder that burden.
“She’s a strong kid. She has a lot of support behind her.” Gabby told him, releasing the necklace before putting her palms flat upon the table.
It was an anxious gesture, not one that Brian often associated with Gabby. She was headstrong, decisive, right now it looked like she was teetering on the edge of something.
“There’s something I need to talk to you about.”
“I’m working on the marketing plan, I promise.” He told her, raising his hands up in a defensive gesture. “Photoshop is just turning out to be a little bit trickier than expected.”
“I picked up a few extra shifts, covering for Peterson and I saw you at Med a few days ago with Doctor Charles. I wanted to check in, see if everything was ok. You know with the ITP?”
Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura.
He’d been diagnosed with it last year after Cruz had caught sight of mottled bruises appearing on his skin, bruises that he hadn’t gotten on the job. His immune system had started attacking his platelets, which could have led to a bleed on the brain if Cruz and Sylvie hadn’t set his Baba on him. He’d been terrified that it had been leukaemia, the thought of it had made him bury his head in the sand, pretend it wasn’t happening. Despite the fact he had been young when his father died of the disease, he still remembered the slow agonising process, how he would cry from the pain.
“It’s not ITP.” He sighed, his fingertips tracing over the Firefly sticker on his laptop.
Maybe it was time to talk about what was happening with him. Keeping it a secret felt like such a weight on his shoulders. He was lying to Cruz when he went out to therapy appointments, hiding his pills during shifts, the stress of it was suffocating. He just wanted to come clean about the whole thing. It was at that moment he realised how much progress he had made over the past few months. When he’d first started sessions with Doctor Charles, he wouldn’t dream of opening his mouth and discussing his issues with his Firehouse Family.
Now though…
Telling someone didn’t seem so bad. They had supported him through his ITP, even when he’d had to take time off. Mental health wasn’t an issue that they talked about, not really. They’d all been touched by Jones death, her suicide stuck with every single one of them, ghosting their steps. He didn’t want that to happen to him. He didn’t want to be a spirit that haunted the memories of the people he loved in Firehouse 51. He believed in transparency, and he knew if anyone came to him with the same problems that he was having, he would do everything in his power to help them.
“Doctor Charles is treating me for PTSD.” He informed her, tilting his head up so that he could meet her gaze.
Gabby reached out across the table, her dainty hands covering his and clasping them gently. It was a simple gesture, one full of kindness and empathy. There was no judgement, no reprimand, only the willingness to listen, to hear out his troubles, to be there if he needed it.
“It started creeping up on me a while back. I couldn’t sleep, kept seeing the people that didn’t make it, hearing them…” he trailed off. “There are things in my personal life I hadn’t dealt with, feelings I pushed down, and everything got a little messy.”
“You don’t have to explain…”
“I want to.” He told her with a small smile before continuing. “It’s time I started talking about it. The last few months have been tough, there have been some really dark times, times I thought maybe I wasn’t gonna make it. But I think I’m coming through the other side, and I just wanted you to know because you’re my friend and I want to be more honest about this. I don’t want anybody else to feel like they’ve got no hope, that they can’t talk about it if things get too much.”
“Does anyone else know?” Gabby asked.
“Kat.” He told her. “She saw that I was in freefall, that I wasn’t handling things.”
“She’s good for you, you know?” Gabby said with a smile. “You need somebody in your life who can call you on your bullshit.”
“I can confirm she does that pretty well.”
“Look, I have to ask.” Gabby said, resting her elbows on the table so she could lean in close. “Why on earth have you not jumped on that yet? That girl is crazy about you.”
“A few months back, when I started therapy, I told her how I feel, that I wanted to be more.” He explained. “But I wasn’t in a good head space, I couldn’t be that guy you know? The one that she deserved.”
“And now?” Gabby prompted, a hint of excitement in her voice.
Brian smiled.
“I think I’m ready to make my move.”
