Positive:

-Loves to do things for you.

-Also loves it when you bake together.

-Keeps every single gift you give her in a box with rainbows and glitter on it.

-Unironically says 'yo mama' at the wrong times LMFAO

-Plays with your hair or fingers when she's in deep thought

-Brags to her dad about how you're the most amazing partner ever

-Has the most amazing made up stories and fantasies. Talks your ears off with them

-When you're laying in bed, and she wakes up before you, she'll lay on top of you to wake you up.

I'm not kidding. It can be 6 am, and she'll crawl over to your side of the bed and lay her whole body on yours.

-In general, she's super fun to be around.

Negative:

-Overworks herself.

With that, she forgets to eat.

On a few occasions she actually fainted.

-Becomes distant when something's bothering her.

-She can get too swept up in her ideologies/fantasies, that she doesn't see what's right infront her.

-Lowkey controlling, but doesn't realize it.

(I don't think there are many negative things about Charlie to be honest LOL)

Negative:

-Aggressive.

Normally, she has no way of outing it, so she bottles it up. Because of this, she can come over as aggressive, simply because her cup overflows.

-Drowns in her feelings.

-Takes things too seriously.

-She hit you in a fight once, and she still regrets it.

-Also hold grudges.

-Gives you the silent treatment if you did something to her dislike.

Positive:

-Surprisingly understanding.

-I said this once, and will continue to say it, he has AMAZING taste in music. Many of the characters do.

-A great cook.

His mom taught him many recipes, so he loves to make them for you.

-Protective.

-Open minded/open to new experiences

-Intelligent, always knows when you lie.

-Good at boardgames.

Beat you at Uno SO many times, it's getting a little humiliating..

He's always willing to lend her a hand.

-Decides things for you without you asking him/giving him permission.

Because he's born in the 1890's he's super old fashioned. Therefore I think he would strike his kids if they misbehaved.

-Loves grocery shopping or shopping in general with you.

-Notices small changes in your behavior, whether it's due to stress or simply a bad day, and helps you relax/cheer you up.

-Is great at planning dates!

-Also has amazing music taste.

I personally think a few of his main artists are:

-Funny as hell. No pun or joke gets past him.

-Great with animals! If you have a pet, he has a nickname for them.

-Chases you around the house/appartment with a bug he caught. (Whether that's negative or positive is totally up to you)

-Doesn't really understand/do boundaries, so he'll often take things too far.

-Argumentive. He enjoys a good argument or fight, which makes it difficult to find a solution to the problem your fighting about.

-Holds grudges.

-Overthinks the smallest things.

-Secretive. It takes a lot to get him to talk about his feelings and problems.

-Takes his anger out on you sometimes.

-Borrows your things without your permission, and doesn't put them back when he's done.

Positive:

-Funny. Like, his jokes are actually hilarious. Unlike Alastor who makes the most awful dad jokes ever.

-Is so fully aware when your bullshiting him, he just pretends not to know.

-As i said in previous headcanons, he LOVES to dance with you.

He's super good at it too!

Has his hands all over you.

Hips, waist, neck, back, you name it.

-Will never admit it, but he likes it when you sneak up on him/jump him.

-In general he's pretty accepting of physical touch.

-He purrs, when you scratch his ears or something.

-Leaves you small gifts and letters around the house/appartment.

Negative:

-Messy. Has trouble cleaning/keeping things clean.

-Forgetful. Often forgets your dates.

-Anger Issues.

-Snaps at you when he's overwhelmed or stressed. Doesn't apologize for it because he's not aware of it. You'd have to point it out to get an apology out of him.

-Easily irritated.

When you're too close to him, when he's in a bad mood or when you take jokes a little too far, he ignores you for a few hours.

What 141 listens to over speakers when working out alone... I think next maybe civie clothes? Probably!

Soap: European Rap (Northern Boys and Shogun) and he plays loud, the boy got some hearing loss due to all the explosions. He mostly listens to them for the beats and less the lyrics much to the chagrin of the 141. He refuses to not listen to them but does add more variety to his play list.

Ghost: Classical Music, I just love the idea of Simon going hard, weight lifting and solo boxing, blasting Bauq. He's like the most intimidating soldier on base and most everyone avoids the training room when he's in there. So no one believes Roach when he yaps about Ghost listening to Mozart while beating the shit out of him in the ring. Only the 141 knows the truth.

Gaz: British alternative, The Muse and Gorillaz, he likes the rhythm and it's easy for him to get into a good groove while training. He's been to as many concerts as he can big or small, the man enjoys music and often goes to see local bands. But at base he deals without his live music fix by listening to his favorites.

Roach: White girl pop and cunty rap, like full on Megan Thee Stallion and Kesha blasting as loud as possible. His play list is called Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss. He likes to feel powerful and what better hype music is there than the hype music meant for American women. He likes setting up karaoke nights so he can convince Soap and Gaz to screech the lyrics with him drunkenly.

Price: Old man country, Johnny Cash and Marty Robbins, he likes his cowboy country and who can blame him its the best kind of country. He absolutely loves American westerns and is part of the reason he joined the military, to become a Western hero. It's why he often goes off the rails and does what he believes is right. Gaz likes to tease him about his slight obsession but truly thinks it cute.

O'Connor: Rock but like Horny Rock, she's absolutely blasting shit like Closer by Nine Inch Nails and Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang because she knows she'll have the room alone. The few times one of the boys came in to work out they seemed to be red as hell. O'Connor finds it extremely funny, she's a raging lesbian listening to mostly straight men singing about sex and fucking. The fact that it can make even Ghost squirm just the smallest bit helps fuel the continuation of the habit. She knows the main reason she does is so she doesn't force herself to wear long sleeves to hide her scarred body.

Ghost didn’t really understand her. He did, but there were times when she acted awfully funny whenever he’d do something for her. Like bouquets. Now, Simon “Ghost” Riley never grew up with a father who gave his mother flowers, and he was going to be the link in the chain that broke, because he’d be damned if he didn’t show his appreciation for his lover. Except every time he gave her a bouquet of flowers, she smiled like her face was going to split in half, and she thanked him profusely for it, holding it to her chest like it was the rarest thing in the world.

Other times, he tried to pay for things, and she refused vehemently, saying she could cover it, and part of Ghost wanted to feel like his manhood was being disrespected because he was supposed to pay for her, but the other part understood she was a grown adult who was independent.

It was a quiet night in his apartment, and she’d finally managed to get Ghost to sit down and relax on the couch while she cooked dinner for them. He occasionally watched her from the kitchen, unable to help the small grin on his face as she danced around and sang to old 2000’s Kesha songs.

About fifteen minutes later, the music shut off, and she appeared with two bowls of steaming food that had his stomach gurgling. “Hungry?” she teased, handing him a bowl with more than a good helping.

“Starved,” he replied, looking at it. “What’d you make, love?”

She shifted slightly and grinned at the nickname, another thing he found endearing about her. “Goulash.”

“Never had it,” he said, already sticking the spoon in his mouth, only to open his mouth and “Hafhashhath.”

“It’s hot, Simon,” she deadpanned. “I just pulled it out of the skillet.”

His eyes watered as she passed him a glass of water and he nodded a thanks. She curled up with her own bowl next to him, her knees brushing his thigh; quietly, she blew on her spoon before eating. They ate in silence, other than the couple times Ghost complimented her cooking.

It was only after, when she was taking their bowls that he asked, “Love, can we talk about something?” She froze, a look of something he could only describe as panic on her face. “Love?”

She recovered and smiled at him. “Yeah, let me put this in the dishwasher.”

As she hurried into the kitchen, Ghost watched in silence as a multitude of emotions crossed in her eyes, the biggest being anxiety and hurt.

Coming back, she sat down on the couch, this time, a good few inches from him and he looked at her for a moment. “You alright, love?”

“Mhm,” she lied, nodding her head, and he noticed that her eyes were on the couch cushion.

“Love, can you look at me?” She did so and he smiled slightly, reaching up to brush his knuckles against her cheek. “There’s my pretty, poppy,” he murmured, and her eyes flooded with tears, shocking him. “What’s wrong?”

She swallowed a lump the size of her fist in her throat, making a gesture with her hand as if it were going to help her speak. “I—” she shut her mouth, eyes closing as tears dripped down her cheeks, and Ghost shifted, reaching up to wipe her face.

“Love, whatever’s going on, you can tell me.” He tilted her chin up and she opened her eyes, gazing at him. “What’s got you in a mess?”

Eyelashes dampened with tears, she blinked a few times and asked quietly, “Are you going to stop seeing me?”

Ghost paused, brows furrowing in confusion. “Beg pardon?”

“You said you wanted to talk about something,” she replied, voice still a murmur. “I assume you don’t want to keep seeing me.”

He was still entirely confused. “I don’t even know where to start with how you got to this point.” He took her hand. “Love, why would I want to stop seeing you?”

She frowned. “I’ve…never been in a committed relationship.”

This shocked him, but suddenly, everything about her reactions and how she seemed so excited all the time with him made sense.

“When people find out that I’ve never had one…” her lips pulled downwards in an expression he never wanted to see her make again; she looked so heartbroken. “They make excuses and stop seeing me. One guy told me,” tears filled her eyes again and she laughed pitifully. “He said, ‘I’m not going to teach you everything. I’m not your parent.’” Her eyes met his. “I stopped dating after that…until I met you. I was scared to even try. But you, Simon, you…you’re the best thing that’s ever stepped into my life.”

“Love,” he started and she reached forward, taking his hand.

“Give me a chance, please,” she begged. “I’ve been reading and watching videos about relationships. Simon, you won’t have to teach me anything. I swear, I can learn, and I have been. I can—”

“Love,” he interrupted, and she appeared crestfallen, pulling her hand away.

“Simon,” she whispered. “If you’re gonna break my heart, just break it and please make this fast.” Her eyes met his. “If any part of you cares, just have mercy.”

Ghost reached over and grabbed the meat of her hip, pulling her into his lap where she refused to look at him, until he took her chin in his hand like he had earlier and made her look at him. “Love,” he said, and she met his eyes. “Will you be my girlfriend?”

“Huh?”

Ghost brushed his thumb over her lips. “I’ve spent my entire life being afraid to love someone because I didn’t want to turn into my dad. And then, six months ago, you ran smack into me, and I couldn’t believe that there was someone who wanted to be with me.” He gazed at her. “I’m as fucked up as they come, poppy, and you still want to be with me.”

“Of course, I do,” she whispered. “I…I love you, Simon.”

His eyes lit up as he smiled and leaned forward, nuzzling her nose. “Say it again.”

“I love you, Simon.”

“One more time.”

“I love you, Simon,” she confessed, reaching up to cup his cheek. “You make me happy. And I’m so lucky to have you.”

“As you should, I don’t like most people,” he joked and she snorted, causing him to smile. “And she smiles!”

She looked down, playing with one of his sweatshirt strings. “So…you like me?”

“I love you,” he answered, and her eyes went wide, mouth snapping shut. “Poppy, I love you more than the world. I think about you all the time. I feel…I feel like I have a reason to live again. For you.” Tears flooded her vision and he chuckled lowly. “You cry an awful lot, love.”

“Stop teasing me,” she sniffled. “I’m new to this.” As if she remembered suddenly, she looked up. “You’re okay with me being inexperienced in…like everything?”

“Just means we get to learn together,” he replied and ran his hand over her cheek. “Besides, I don’t plan on letting another man having you ever again.”

Her face felt hot, and she looked suddenly flustered. “That sounds like a serious long-term commitment, Simon.”

His chest rumbled with a grunt. “Listen well, love,” he started, hand lowering to poke at the center of her chest. “That’s mine, and I’m not letting it go. Ever.”

She placed her hand on his chest. “Does that mean that this one is mine too?”

“Every cold inch.”

Her eyes lit up with a gentle sort of happiness and she murmured, “Your heart isn’t cold, Simon. It’s very warm. And…gentle.” She looked at him. “My gentle giant.”

He hummed with a small smirk and tapped her cheek. “Don’t let anyone know. I’ve a reputation to uphold.”

“Okay, big guy,” she retorted and curled into him, head tucked under his chin.

After a moment, she kept squirming and he asked, “You alright?”

She paused, then blurted out, “I have a boyfriend. I’ve never had a boyfriend before.”

“You’re also gonna sleep in a bed with your boyfriend. So, two firsts in one night.”

She jerked away, eyes wide. “I can’t sleep with you!”

Ghost’s brows furrowed and he inquired, “You wanna take the couch then?”

“Wait, what?”

He thumped her forehead. “Mind out of the gutter, love.”

Her eyes narrowed in a glare, and she griped, “You did that on purpose.”

“Maybe,” he teased, and she harrumphed, turning her head.

“Rude. So mean to tease your girlfriend.”

He tickled her side a little until she laughed. “Not my fault she’s easy to tease.”

“You’re so mean.”

“Hmmm…how can I ever make it up to you?” he asked, and she turned, wrapping her arms around his neck.

“Carry me to bed and hold me all night?” she paused. “And maybe give me a shirt to borrow?”

“I get to see you in my clothes?” Ghost grinned, picking her up as she yelped from shock. “That’s an affirmative.”

Her laughter peeled through the hallway as he carried her to the bedroom with enthusiasm.

(i've been cutting the vast majority of male musicians out of my listening habits bc i want to support, uplift, and center women in my life. these are some great bands + artists if you're also looking to do that)

-Bikini Kill: Riot Grrrl band, frontwoman is Kathleen Hannah aka the love of my life. very angry, messy, garage girl punk. openly man hating.

-Banshee: banshee described her music as fairy metal. she does that heavy metal whisper-screaming on top of these fairy-like mystical melodies and instrumentals. has some very manhating songs, amazing female rage

-Beach Bunny: doesn't focus as much on feminism, but has a lot of feminist songs. hard to describe the genre, but kinda garage-punk/pop? highly recommend

-Bratmobile: another Riot Grrrl band! i love them!

-Delilah Bon: metal, scream-y, female rage. very good for releasing anger, very angry at men, so so powerful. my favorite song is Dead Men Don't Rape

-Dreamcatcher: this one is a bit different, it's my favorite Kpop group, but they're technically Krock. i like other Kpop groups, they have a lot of freedom. no one controls what they wear or sing or say, which a lot of popular Kpop groups are victims of. they speak out for what they believe in, queer rights mostly, and they also spoke up after George Floyd. they're big advocates against the fan hate female idols receive, and their latest releases have all been concept albums about fighting for equality against a corrupt government

-Fiona Apple: most people know about my girl Fiona, but she's amazing, and obviously needs to be included. songs about her rape, against male violence. very girlhood, like if you took all my girlhood emotions and put it into music

-Halsey: ik what you're thinking, i'm not talking about cursive singing Halsey. i'm talking her last two albums, If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power, and The Great Impersonator. specifically The Great Impersonator. Lonely is the Muse, Life of the Spider, Dog Years, Letter to God (1974), Arsonist, and I Believe in Magic are so fucking good it makes me scream.

-Kesha: (not Ke$ha, i'm saying Kesha after she got away from her rapist at her label). she has a lot of songs about her rapist, angry songs, healing songs, etc. honestly, she's one of the strongest female celebrities i know, the way she bounced back, found herself, and healed.

-Le Tigre: another Kathleen Hannah band, more upbeat than Bikini Kill, still angry, but more upbeat. takes stands for feminism + black rights.

-Maggie Lindemann: not as feminist, but a strong woman with a strong voice singing powerful songs about her mental health, healing, and finding herself

-Marina: used to be Marina and the Diamonds, her old stuff is sooo good, and her new stuff is very outspoken and feminist. i love her.

-Mitski: strong female voice + strong female words. angry, sad, everything. i adore her.

-Scene Queen: metal/scene genre. her goal as an artist is to make spaces in scene where women are safe and centered and prioritized because scene is a pretty misogynistic culture right now. she sings about hating men, not feeling safe, amazing female rage. also very very gay.

-Sofia Isella: very powerful female vocalist, sings about feminism, fantastic female rage songs. very creepy sound as well

obviously there's a million more i'm forgetting, but here's a start, a pretty decent list

My Protector

Warnings: Alcohol, a creepy guy at a party, lmk if anything else :)

Nolan and Nick had messaged her a few days earlier about a party. A promise of free liquor if she attends to celebrate a win that the boys all collectively decided to celebrate once the weekend hit. The party was massive, per usual, with too many bodies squished into a single room as young drunk adults danced along to old Kesha songs, slurring the words as the music blared throughout the living room and kitchen.

She’d met Jeremy no longer than half an hour ago, he’d been in need of a beer-pong partner and a mutual friend had deemed her the queen of the game. So when the offer obliged her to join them in a game of partnered pong she couldn't resist the urge to show off her talents.

Jeremy had a cute smile, but the haze in his eyes from the liquor in his system was enough to warn her to keep a nice friendly distance between them. He on the other hand had other plans for the night, his hands had been everywhere except to himself as he attached himself to her hip.

His fingers gripped the flesh of her exposed midriff as she searched the party for some sort of familiarity, the game was long over but Jeremy had not taken the hint that she was trying to rid of him. “Dude you’re pinching my skin,” she said pushing his hand away, she knew he was harmless, but his constant presence was beginning to aggravate her.

His hand found the small of her back as she walked faster, his touch chasing right after her. She stopped in place, her eyes looking for Luca, Ethan, literally any of the boys whom she knew would help her out of the situation she currently found herself in. And there he stood, the six-foot-tall blonde, a grin on his face as he whispered something in another girl’s ear.

Luke Hughes was not her closest friend, “friends” was barely a word she could use to describe their relationship that revolved strongly around harsh glares and witty comments. But he was tall, intimidating, and hot, so his help would greatly be appreciated.

But there she stood in a sea full of drunk teens, staring at him, hoping to catch his attention as Jeremy tried to persuade her away from the party for some “much-needed alone time” as he put it. “I’m really not interested,” she urged through a clenched jaw as she watched Luke finally look her way, her pulling on Jeremy ceased as she mainly focused on getting towards Luke as quickly as possible.

His brows furrowed as he watched her shake her head at the unknown boy's advances, “excuse me for a moment” Luke paused his conversation and stood up from leaning up against the countertop.

“You should know I find a girl who won’t give it up easily much more attractive” Jeremy whispered in her ear making her shy away even further from him.

She dragged the boy through the crowd and ended up running right into Luke’s chest as he placed an arm around her shoulder protectively, his free hand shaking the random boy’s hands off of her forearm that had been red from the tight grasp. “Jeremy this is my…” she looked up at Luke who smirked down at her. “I’m her boyfriend” he finished her sentence and glared as he watched the realization settle on Jeremy’s face.

“You should really tell your girlfriend to stop slutting around if she has a boyfriend” he spat out making the girl’s jaw drop. “Oh fuck you,” she said defensively as Luke wounded his arm up and punched the guy right in the side of the face.

Jeremy slowly collected himself before walking away from the couple before any more damage was done to his head. “You just punched him?” “That’s what you’re worried about?” he deadpanned and took her by the hand and pulled her up the stairs to Nolan’s room which had been left unoccupied.

“Are you okay?” he asked with a concerned tone as he examined her for any signs that she had been hurt “I’m fine, he was mostly harmless” “Mostly isn’t good enough,” he said looking at her palm that had nail indents on them, “was that him?” he took her hands into his looking down at her palms. “That was just my anxiety” 

She stood there awkwardly, enjoying the tingling feeling that his touch gave her as he ran his thumb across the palm of her hand. She pulled her hands from his grasp and wrapped her arms awkwardly around his torso to pull herself into his chest. “I know we argue a lot, and we don’t always get along but thank you Luke” she mumbled into his clothed chest as she wrapped his arms around her, holding her closer to him. “I’d do anything for you“ he mumbled as one of his hands found the back of her head.

He felt slightly dizzy as his fingers tangled in her hair, “what kind of fake boyfriend would I be if I wasn’t protecting my girl”

Is it just me, or did the entire 8th episode of Season 1, with Beelzebub, just feel like it was just an episode for Vivzie to pat herself on the back?

Like, the episode was stuck in legal hell for years because she decided to hire KESHA; but not to sing! Kesha wasn't even the one to sing Beelzebub's song! It was someone else who sang it. So Kesha literally didn't even need to be in this episode, because her singing voice wasn't utilized. She could have easily been replaced by any other bland valley girl-accented actress, and the legal hell wouldn't have happened. Doing things for the good of the show.

But Vivzie just HAD to have a big mega-artist on her roster, HAD TO, GUYS, and if it fucks up her show's schedule for years to come, then so be it! Getting to say "I GOT KESHA! :D " is more important than the stability of her show.

...It's also supposed to be a reference back to Vivzie's old "Die Young" music video, which was by Kesha, of course. (This, I imagine, is also why Beelebub herself is a confused sparkledog-lavalamp-insect abomination of a character design - to make her a wolf anthro like Vivzie's Die Young music video. But that opens another can of worms where she sacrificed making a better character design, one that made more sense for the world, because she HAD to reference her old work. Everything else be damned.)

So the whole episode just feels like Vivzie being self-congratulatory and jerking herself off the whole time with in-jokes and self-references.

Yeah, that episode did nothing for the plot, nothing for the characters, nothing for the Spindlehorse staff, and was incredibly disrespectful towards Kesha and everything she's been through.

It was a celebration of nothing but Vivzie herself.

cassia is one of those ocs where the music i find for her playlist is almost all vibes and not really based on lyrics. it's the energy of the music, the way it makes you wanna move or bob or sing along. that being said: "rage" by hyper crush and "joyride" by kesha immediately make me think of her. lyrically, "i love it" by icona pop might be a good fit.

8) what hobbies does your oc have? what do they do to unwind?

cassia's major hobby is rollerskating! but she's also super into street art, and she enjoys beautifying her favorite areas of new york in a manner of silly or meaningful ways. when she's at home, she also enjoys random doodling--mostly ideas for graffiti or future street art--learning dances from her favorite music videos, and playing a variety of video games.

11) what was your inspiration for your oc?

i distinctly remember driving to my local movie trading company to see if they had any physical dvds for tmnt'03, and "girlfriend" by avril lavigne came on spotify shuffle. for whatever reason, i got the image of a pink-haired girl in rollerskates, and she wouldn't leave my head. cassia's my first tmnt oc, and i think she was always meant to be kind of like april in that she's a grounding presence in their otherwise chaotic lives. despite how high-energy and mischievous she is, she's extremely stable and does regularly go to therapy, which has made her more thoughtful and aware of others along with herself. her biggest conflicts come from being an out trans-girl in the 90s and early 2000s, but none of it is tied to her immediate family (her parents ADORE her). she is, for the most part, about as ''''average'''' a civilian in the tmnt'03 world as you can get. i dunno! i think i kind of just wanted to give them all another anchor of sorts, another safe haven. cassia's parents, oliver and esme, also become guardian figures to the turtles in a sense (especially mikey). esme loves to mother them.

god yes. nyx's voice claim is shohreh aghdashloo. the moment i heard her as enforcer grayson in arcane, i pointed at the screen and muttered: "you". as someone who's very picky about these sorts of things i seriously feel like it was gift-wrapped to me. >xD shohreh also provides the voice for the dragon in damsel, which is a dumb as hell movie but i will continue to listen to it for the sake of hearing her talk.

6) if your oc is in a fantasy setting, what profession would they be in the modern day?

kind of a weird question, since 'modern day' implies that this is more a difference in time period? e-e;; i imagine she'd likely still have assassin roots, but. after the rebellion succeeds, the republic begins to rebuild, and the games are disbanded, nyxram takes it upon herself to use her family's "estate" as a sanctuary for the animals used in the games, since most of them can't be returned to their natural habitats due to injuries and/or being raised in captivity. so! i think a potential "modern day" or "human" profession for her might be owning and managing something like an old friends senior dogs sanctuary. providing housing, love, and comfort for older animals when most folks want younger pets, and ensuring that their last few years are happy and safe. she's taken so much life, so... it feels like giving back, in a way.

11) what was your inspiration for your oc?

@/plantdonut doesn't live with me (alas), but if she did, i would have turned to her during our '03 rewatch a few years ago and asked, bluntly, "why do all the triceratons gotta be dudes? where're my giant, amazon warrior dinosaurs?". and within a few days, i was practicing my hand at drawing triceratons, so i could make it so. my two major points of inspiration for nyx come from cassandra cain (2nd batgirl, pre-new52) and john wick. cassandra for being... basically born and bred to be the perfect assassin, only to have 'too much' compassion and love and guilt and go hero instead, and john wick for being a 'baba yaga' to anyone who knows his name. not the boogeyman, but the one you send to kill the boogeyman. the idea of a triceraton assassin was very cool to me, given that they're often a straight-forward, loud, and blunt force to face with little concern for being subtle. it also draws an interesting connection to her and the turtles; at some point nyx comments that despite their practice being tied to assassins such as herself, any blood on their hands comes from self-defense. in some ways, she envies them. but in many more, she doesn't. she's the sole survivor of her clutch, and the only one of her siblings to 'earn' a name. she was, in a way, a political move--a gift/tool offered to the prime leader to ensure that her parents had a connection to power and could continue their own work with protection from punishment. ...they just didn't expect for her to want something else. since the triceratons seem to have a handful of 'nods' and aesthetics pointing toward the roman empire, i named nyxram after the greek goddess 'nyx', the personification and substance of night. i also specifically use greek spelling with her, whereas her parents will have roman spelling of their names to further emphasize her 'otherness' from triceraton society as a whole.

GOODNESS, this took a while. Both Baji and I are ardent music lovers and aficionados, so music is veryimportant to us and to this story and these characters. So I wanted to make sure I got everything in order before answering these asks! 

Sorcha loves jazz and music that’s heavily influenced by soul and movement, so she loves hip-hop, pop soul, R&B, club music - stuff that’s sexy and feminine and full of confidence, like Janelle Monae, Rihanna, Beyoncé, HER, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish. 

She’s absolutely a Lana Del Rey fan, also loves Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith, Clairy Browne, April Smith and the Great Picture Show, Laura Mvula. For more old school stuff she goes for Irma Thomas, Nina Simone, Peggy Lee, Julie London. 

Rilla loves fun energetic pop that she can dance to but also makes her feel free to - Kesha (the Rainbow album was DEEPLY important to her), Doja Cat, Dimie Cat, Sabrina Carpenter, Chapelle Roan, Olivia Rodrigo, Brittany Spears. She loves Laufey for a softer, romantic vibe, and even though she doesn’t listen to a ton of alternative she LOVES Molotov Jukebox. 

Also, girl ADORES Dolly Parton. She’s dressed up as her for Halloween, loves her endlessly. She got into Kacey Musgraves too, but Dolly has her heart. She likes some of Taylor Swift’s stuff, but she’s definitely not a die hard Swiftie. 

Lorcan unironically adores Kesha, very happy to jam with Rilla whenever their girlie’s music is on. In general he loves music that would be perfect for a barroom brawl - Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, IDLES. Loves rock in general, especially Def Leppard and AC/DC, the Clash and the Black Keys. Likes Gaelic Storm and the Beatles for softer moods. 

Brig listens to a lot of metal and punk and rock music - she and Lorcan would definitely jam to AC/DC and the Black Keys. Also loves blues music, definitely a fan of Johnny Cash. Also likes Gin Wigmore a lot. 

Luella loves soft indie core songs and groups - the Wailin’ Jennys, the Oh Hellos, the Crane Wives, the Jane Austen Argument, the Hush Sound, Brandi Carlisle, Cat Power, Paris Paloma. She and Rilla both love Laufey. She listens to Florence + the Machine and P!nk when she wants to feel empowered. 

Locke is also into soft indie, lots of underground bands no one has ever heard of but have very intense poetic lyrics - Hozier, the National, Cigarettes After Sex, Florence + the Machine, Nicole Dollanganger, the Oh Hellos. There’s a lot of overlap between him and Lu, actually! He also loves viola music, he plays it and it’s a very healing, therapeutic passion of his. 

Regal…whoo boy, his taste in music covers such a wide and diverse spectrum. He loves operas and classic musicals, very much a devotee to classical music by artists like Debussy and Puccini and Bizet. One of his absolute favorite songs is “Danse Macabre”…

He’s a virtuoso with the piano and has described himself as his own favorite musician. 

But he does like some more modern music, he’s just VERY snobby about what he wants to listen to. Marina and the Diamonds (“Bubblegum Bitch” is a favorite), Queen (he is very fond of Freddy), Voltaire, Fish in a Birdcage, the Real Tuesday Weld are some examples.  

Bogdan is even more a snob than Regal, and stays away from most modern music. He’d much rather focus on composing his own music than polluting his ears with the dreck that passes for songs nowadays. Sorcha has her work cut out with him, but she’s more than up to the task…

Casimir, sadly, probably doesn’t listen to a lot of music because of his injury - it’s too much stimulation and he suffers from horrible headaches to begin with. Not all music does it, but too much stress and sounds would very likely trigger an episode. It’s incredibly tragic because music is such an important and treasured facet of his and Bogdan’s culture…

last weekend someone taught me how to catch crayfish when wading and this weekend i successfully grabbed one!! proof at the end of the post.

last week was bandcamp friday! i last-minute got a few things: finally got sammy rae's "good life" and "let's throw a party", and preordered their newest album "something for everybody". i still need to buy my ticket for their concert near to me this fall. then i got sad snack's full discography for like $5 (the no children ska cover lol), the altogether's "when we were kids" which has been a go-to comfort album for me for a bit, shakey graves "deadstock" anthology, and finally the dear hunter "antimai".

i've been back on the podcast grind, just casually keeping up with stuff like mbmbam sawbones lpotl etc as they come out. most recent mbmbam (episode....730?? jesus christ) has some REALLY funny bits, notably towards the beginning where the cincinnati tornado sirens were being tested and griffin made a comment about the air raid sirens going off again and travis was like ?? dude i'm not in the fucking blitz??? it was very good. there was something else towards the end of the episode that also made me laugh out loud -- oh yes i just went and relistened to the last minute and it's the wish at the end, "i wish my cat would know what it means when i flip him off". so fucking true griffin. i was considering going to one of their tour dates but unfortunately they will be in the nearest city to me when i'm out of town for my second wedding of the fall. ah well

watching: shane dawson and the art of the constant rebrand - jimmy robins: little retrospective about a guy who i never really liked and haven't thought about in years. i guess he's still around ??? okay. not gonna embed it so you don't get jumpscared by his face.

playing: this is a partial share with watching but last weekend my old roommate and i hung out with one of our friends with the intention of having dinner and crafting. however. we were so tired from kayaking earlier that day that we just ended up watching friend play stray and not crafting at all. it's really cute! i did get Very emotional at the beginning when the cat fell! i was like no!!!

my friend mostly played it but i did do a little bit, it was lots of fun. there was a very funny bit where friend, getting really in the mindset of Being Cat, pulled out a battery pack from a fan and was like "hehe i'm gonna drop it off the roof!" and did it before we could stop her, we were like wait we might need that to solve a puzzle -- but the answer was no it was fine, which is good, because it ended up dropped on a completely inaccessible rooftop ledge below, oopsie.

misc: THE PRELIMINARY EXAM DOCUMENT EXISTS. rejoice. however this comes with the caveat that i don't have a date set yet because i am in the trenches of trying to solve a Very specific problem with my software. the solution is a complete unknown to me as of now. it is in the stage of "putting key words in quotation marks in google scholar and going down the list emailing all the authors like heyyyy help please", which is scary. at least one other person has done something semi-similar - in fact they have my advisor in their acknowledgements thanking them for her editing help lol - so i'm hoping i'm nearly there. because once that is resolved i can FINALLY set a date, which, assuming i pass, also sets the earliest point at which i can give my thesis defense! scary!!

Re swifts choreo: i have a feeling the lack of performance skills is another one of her stunted growth areas. She never could dance or perform and back in the day that made her quirky and "real." She never had the incentive to get better so she never did. The underdog small hometown girl card isn't cute especially on someone who 100% should've improved over the years. She hasn't though and all she can do now is get bigger and flashier sets to hide that.

Tbh I think with all her yes men, song stealing and half assed performances she's lazy. Making the quickest buck and getting attention is all she wants.

Honestly, yeah. Like, the saddest thing is she doesn't even look like she's trying. Kesha can't dance very well, either, and she's acknowledged this - it'swhy she doesn'tdo fully choreo often. Despite that, she had hear heart set on dancing in an old music video, and in the final product it's evident that - while she's not the best or even on par with her backup crew - she's genuinely trying her best, and it looks good enough.

Taylor seemingly doesn't even try (see: the half-assed finger wagging). So not only does she approach things in a lazy way (not investing in real dance training if she wants to dance consistently), what she *does* do, she executes lazily. It's definitely one of the reasons I find her to be an uninspiring performer. The audience shouldn't be putting more energy into the show than the headliner. Genuinely her priorities seem to be make as much money as possible, stay on top no matter what it takes, and do as little actual effort as possible/do as little as necessary to actually benefit fans. Which, what incentive does she have? Her fans eat up anything she puts out, even if it's objectively shit.

Although, that said, apparently she recently claimed to watch some absurd number of songs while on tour, and if that's true, that's incredibly unhealthy and a recipe for burn out. And it wouldn't surprise me if in the next five years we see her lack of effort in other areas collide with her burn out and she goes up in flames, metaphorically.
