In the mood to colour a little sketch from when i was listening to the neapolitan novels… i was tipsily biking home from some party and the scene where lenu comes to see lila at work and give her the blue fairy came on, and i just wanted lila to lean over and kiss her so bad.

some "every woman is beautiful uwu" people are mad at the substance for acknowledging that women look different in their thirties and in their sixties. like, it very specifically compares two women who are very much on top of conventional beauty standards *for their respective ages* and says. no matter how hot you look when you're old you're still gonna be discarded. because there are always younger women out there. new women born every day. new meat to be thrown into the grinder. that's the logic of the patriarchy–younger women are more fuckable, everything that has to do with being young is Hot in women and everything that has to do with being old is disgusting. the answer is not going Older Women Can Be Beautiful Too (they can) but saying that it doesn't fucking matterrrrrrrrrrr. you yourself are inevitably going to find some woman unattractive, repulsive even! but they're still Human. changing beauty standards is good and necessary but it's never going to solve the issue of women's humanity being conditional on looking hot (and even that humanity will never be the humanity that men are afforded).

does anybody else think about how the two-dimensional aliens in flatline…

are ‘experimenting. dissecting. testing. and trying to understand us’. just like somebody else is throughout the entire episode! she’s asking questions at first, uncertain (the 2D phase) — “that’s how you would do it, isn’t it”? — seeking reassurance from the earpiece, probing, trying the mask on for size.

in the warehouse getting more comfortable, settling into the role, taking on a leadership position and even succeeding at sounding intimidating in an all-too-doctorish way (“i’m your one chance of getting out of here alive, that’s what i am”) — as the TARDIS shrinks smaller and smaller, eventually falling out of view onto the tracks. powerless, energy drained, resorting to siege mode… while clara looms larger and larger, in lockstep with the creatures as they master the third dimension and emerge from the shadows wearing other people’s skin. that’s her, wearing the skin of the doctor.

as the threat starts to get tangible she gets more creative, stops defaulting to “what would he do if he was here”… what would she do? she’s all they’ve got! and comes up with an ingenious plan to rival any of his. “rule one of being the doctor: use the enemy’s power against them”. makes up her own “rule one” because the real rule one out in full force in flatline doesn’t need saying. rule one: clara lies and she does it exceptionally. goodness has nothing to do with it.

in a predominant number of previous episodes featuring clara, the doctor was faced with a narrative foil in the shape of that episode’s enemy, a gothic double of sorts, a funhouse mirror: the t-rex; the half-faced man; the “good dalek”; robin hood; the teller. in s7, albeit in a quite different manner, mr clever.

the crowning glory of flatline, then, is that instead of being another foil for some flaw of twelve’s, this monster-of-the-week is clara’s foil. a parallel for doctor oswald, doctor of lies: that other dimension, growing as the TARDIS shrinks.

p.s. yes, “we” are “still doing” doctor who meta in 2024 because i’m watching it for the first time. deal with it

Greetings Tumblr!

I present you another do-you-know-this-thing blog, but this one is dedicated to characters who stutter. I’ve noticed an extreme lack of stuttering representation both in media and here on Tumblr, and my goal is to change it with this blog.

First, a little about me.

I’m a stutterer myself. I’ve been stuttering since childhood, and now when I’m an adult, my stutter starts to severely affecting the quality of my life. It made me actively fight it since last year, I was in therapy and took medication, but there were no visible improvements. Currently, I’m learning how to accept my stutter and live a full life in spite of it.

I don’t know whether this blog will become a thing, so I’d prefer not to reveal either my main blog or my nickname for now, but you can refer to me by using she/her pronouns. I also want to point out that English is not my first language, so if I mess up or use the wrong terminology, forgive me, I’m genuinely sorry. Feel free to correct me, though.

And now, about the blog.

For now, my plan is to post one poll weekly. I’ll wait until the middle of June, and if there are no submissions, I’ll start posting the characters that I find myself in hope more people will learn about the blog and get interested in it.

I haven’t created a google form yet, since I want to start gathering submissions through my askbox. However, if more people prefer google forms, I can always create it. I can work with whatever.

Submission requirements.

Your submission needs to include the character’s name, the character’s picture, and the name of media they’re from. If you can also provide a video fragment where it’s clearly heard that your character is indeed a stutterer, that would be great (but it’s optional, so please, don’t feel pressured).

I will not accept real people unless they’re from a movie/book about a historical figure. My priority is fictional characters. However, your character can be from any kind of media, whether it’s a movie, a book, a video game, or anything else.

I will not accept characters who just pretend to be a stutterer. Their stutter must be real otherwise it’s just pointless.

A few things to add.

I haven’t met a single person on Tumblr who stutters, so I also want to create sort of a stuttering community here. If you’re comfortable with sharing your experience about your stutter with me and everyone else here, feel free to send a message! Really, I’ll gladly listen to all of your stories and I’m sure that other stutterers will be happy to know that they’re not alone.

For now, my profile picture is Bill Denbrough from It. I know nothing about this guy except for the fact that he stutters, so if he’s not good representation, let me know and feel free to suggest any other character that you want to see as this blog profile picture. My header is the sea, and it has nothing to do with stuttering, I just love the sea.

funny to compare how i started my year vs how its ending (fandoms im writing for, fic length range, themes and tropes i’m preferring, etc).

i’ve found that although ive maybe written less and had less interaction in general from readers this year i’ve truly found some amazing people that i consider good friends on here now :’) and i wouldn’t swap that for anything!!

i caught a glimpse of the fallout show, i was curious about a small scene with a feral ghoul because i couldn’t tell if it was someone in makeup like the walking dead or if it was some kind of puppet. if anyone knows i’d love to hear it because my brother told me they used practical effects for the power armour so it’s not a stretch of the imagination to believe that this too was practical
