I wouldn't even make this purely about oversensitivity - I've seen fic writers refuse to tag, say, breakup because they think it would be a Good Experience (tm) for fans of the ship in question to read it (because they often think it's Problematic in some brain-wormed way), or they just think their writing is so good or so "socially important" that people who would normally avoid this commonly tagged trope should have to experience it anyway, "it's good for you" etc. and then melt down when people have the predictable reaction that something that seemed to be billed as a fluffy romance was anything but, and of course, these people's social statements are never as deep and sophisticated as they think they are. These people are weirdly, often very outspoken about the need for Content Warnings in basically any other context.

Obviously, I don't want to say that anything other than major archive warnings are a requirement to tag (and I mean, even those aren't required, you can use CNTW), or that you're required to indicate a breakup will happen if it's a big spoiler or something.... but this wasn't just that, it was deliberately false advertising the fic as something it wasn't bc they thought it would be morally edifying or something for people who dislike that trope to read it.

I like fanfiction and I'm not going to say it can never be effectively used to convey Important Ideas (tm) .... but I do think if you are going to take this attitude and especially if you're over the age of 15 or so, and especially if you're then going to have a meltdown and accuse people of "harassment" for disagreeing with you when the readers are predictably not happy, you need to consider that perhaps fanfiction is not the medium for you. Maybe write original fiction instead.

I don't know why it's so hard for some to understand that people tend to be more allowing for a story not being as happy or fluffy as they expected when the story isn't about characters they're already attached to, especially when they're in a space that's often about seeking out specific outcomes that the original work didn't give them. Like I'm sorry there's often a double standard between fanfic and original fic in this way, but it exists for a way.

But also, none of these fanfic writers I've seen do this (and this sounds niche I know but I've seen it several times in different fandom) ever actually have Takes that are remotely original or startling or groundbreaking, lol, such that it's worth misleading people because they "need to hear." It's always like.... cool, I saw this take for the first time on a Tumblr post in 2017/from someone in my women's studies class in 2010, and I thought it was a bad shallow take then and still do.

Interestingly, the people who genuinely have really interesting and unusual and thought-provoking takes that they use fanfic to express feel no need to tag it inaccurately, feel no desire to force it on people who don't want to read it. Wonder why.

Titles

Intertwined: Sirius keeps Harry once he rescues him from Godric's Hollow. Harry is born with mismatched eyes that will mirror his soulmate's eyes. It has a lot of tropes I'm fond of - soulmates, sirius lives, background wolfstar, more powerful enemies and more powerful harry/hermione.

Meddling With Time : Harry and Hermione are thrown into a "fixed" timeline after they travel back to the Marauders era to kill Voldemort. They thought they would be erased when their mission was completed ... instead, they're dealing with whole new lives.

Matched : Social Media AU; Voldemort defeated in the first war. Hermione was raised in France and meets Harry when they're adults through a dating app in which they both lie and say they're muggles. They find out they're not muggles... when they meet as coworkers at the Ministry.

Red Thread of Fate : Harry always wondered who Hermione's first love was - it was one of the things she never talked about and it brought them together in an unconventional way. It wasn't until 10 years later traveling back to the past that he realizes it was him.

Remedy : Post war Harry and Hermione are struggling to deal with the aftermath and learning who are they are now after all their experiences.

All Harry/Hermione pairings and all pretty wildly different. Intertwined is at the top b/c I honestly am so done with this WIP being stuck in third year. After I move to fourth year though more of my attention is going to be split between Matched and Meddling with Time.

Upcoming Scenes, Events, Details

Intertwined: We're right up to their first kiss and realizing they are in fact soulmates! Yay!

Meddling with Time: Ahh there's so much in this one. So many things I'm looking forward to publishing. I think the biggest scene and this is a spoiler but it's Hermione realizing why Harry looks so different physically when everyone else looks pretty much the same. She does not handle the realization well.

Matched: Looking forward to writing the fight and the reveal of who's been doing everything. It's going to be fun.

Red Thread of Fate: sounds bad but I'm looking forward to writing the break up scene between Harry and Ginny.

Remedy: LOL. Easy. The first sex scene.

hii! idk if you do this stuff but do you have tips on how to start build an acc? like mutuals followers just general stuff. i'm kinda stuck lmao.

ahhh this one is a hard one to do. if im being honest, i’ve had this account for a while, at least since 2017 😬 buutttt i took a look at your account, im liking the vibes.

when it comes to fanfiction and building an account, usually you have to start writing and posting. i would suggest looking at some of your favorite writers, especially on tumblr if it’s gonna be your main domain and see how they layout their post and try to do something similar.

i’m going to use my acc as an example but there’s many other ways you can go about this.

when i’m looking for fanfiction, i like to see the title of the fic and the person that im looking for specifically. i do it as the title of the fic, some people have it in the body of the text posts.

next i try to summarize it to let people know what it’s going to be about. when i look for fanfic, i have something in mind that i want. i always put warnings because it’s the easiest thing to do/keep track of. sometimes fics can get heavy.

i put a word count in case someone doesn’t want to get caught up in a long fic and they’re just looking for something short and sweet.

and notes is where i put anything important. for that fic, it was the fact that it was based on the taylor swift song. if you’re ever writing based off a certain episode of a show, i would put: spoiler: season x, episode x. or s2ep3. something in that general format.

next comes your fanfiction. people will either love it or hate it. and that’s totally fine. you can put your heart and soul into something and they don’t have to like it. you’re just putting your works out on the market, if they wanna read they will!! if they wanna come back, they’ll follow!!

and tagging is probably the most important way to get traction, in my opinion. i have curated this tagging system over a couple years. it seems to work pretty well. the only rule that i NEVER break is that i DO NOT tag fandoms or characters that are not the main interest of the fic 🙅‍♀️

for example, if the fanfic is about finnick, there is no way that i’m tagging a side character like katniss just for existing inside of it. it clogs up the katniss tags.

anywayyy, that’s my unsolicited advice for writing in general. you just gotta write and post. people will find it in the tags. will you get a bunch of likes/reblogs overnight? not at first. but as long as your works are consistently good, people will follow and come back.

followers on tumblr are not a huge deal. most of the time, people are finding your fics through the search function. they’ll like and move on. if your writing sticks out, that’s when they search your account.

i do not base my entire account around followers either. people will follow and then won’t interact for a loooonggggg time. or ever again. there’s nothing you can really do about it. it’s nice to see a high number but it’s not the end of the world

AND when it comes to mutuals? i don’t really have a lot of advice. i got a lot of my mutuals from the colby brock fandom (shout out to them) back when it was like 15 of us and we were running the whole fanfiction game lol. we still follow each other, but hardly interact.

and it’s kinda the same for some of my other mutuals 🤷‍♀️ i love them all. i think about them sometimes. if we talk to each other, that’s great. if not, i’m not gonna get all uptight about it. life gets in the way and we lose interest in shit.

mutuals are nice if you’re boosting each other’s fics. or to talk to about the latest news with the fandom. yknow. they’re just an internet friend.

🍓 How did you get into writing fanfiction?

When I was a pretty young kid (11 or 12?) I loved writing my own little stories for my amusement. And then when I was a teen, I discovered the joy that is One Direction (lol let's not talk about it, ok?). And I learned about fanfiction! And started dabbling it it. And then stopped for years and joining the ACOTAR fandom brought me back to this first love.

🍇How many fandoms have you written in?

Just the two (One Direction and ACOTAR), but I've started to write some Dramione for the Harry Potter fandom, I just haven't posted any yet!

🍈How many years have you been writing fanfiction?

I guess like 15 years? But with a HUGE break for many many years.

🍎Do you read or write more fanfiction?

Probably read. I'm in a phase right now where I don't want to start any new books, but am just reading fanfiction. Something about the comfort of characters I'm already so familiar with. It's hard to find the time and energy to sit and write at this phase in life.

🍌What is one way you've improved as a writer?

Wow....this is a hard question.... I've gotten SLIGHTLY better at actually having a direction and not just hoping the story will happen organically (spoiler alert: it never does). I've started to dabble in the whole outlining thing. I think I've also improved in my ability to write smut.

🍑Do you have any bad habits as a writer?

Back to the outlining thing lol. I have such a hard time creating a storyline. I think my strong suit is details and scenes and emotions, but not necessarily creating a coherent story. Hence why I like oneshots.

🍉What's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?

Um. Any and all. Any comment is just so special. I think ones that usually make me legitimately giggle are when a reader tells me specific lines that resonate with them. I think also when people resonate with the way that I write characters or start to connect with them emotionally. That is just insane to me, I love it.

🍋What is something you've been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?

Hmmmm...I would love to write like a big, epic story, maybe an AU for a different time period. Something that would actually take time and dedication and RESEARCH (which is not one of my strong suits). That would be a goal of mine, I think.

🍇What made you choose your username?

Omg I don't even know. I chose bibliophila because I love reading and books, and I knew that I would want to engage with multiple fandoms and the common denominator was that they were all book fandoms. And I chose vignette because I also wanted to incorporate writing.

how many works do you have on ao3?

I only have 10 on ao3, I originally started writing on fanfiction.net in like 2011 or something, and no one will ever get that username out of me lol I would've deleted the account but I don't want to be the kind of fic writer that deletes things just because I'm not proud of them anymore.

I used to cross-post everything from ao3 on there because it's the roots of why I enjoy fanficiton, but I don't anymore, mostly because it's a lot of work and I get frustrated with not being able to tag things + having to write super short summaries.

2. what's your ao3 word count?

currently at 345,703 & will be at about 400k when I finish posting my wip

3. what fandoms do you write for?

Glee, and it's surprisingly always been Glee. That's taken different forms over the years, like there were several years where I wasn't posting anything and was just doing some silly little instagram rp with some great friends I made. But Glee is how I discovered fanfiction in the first place, and it's consistently been the one fandom I feel connected enough to write this much about.

I have dabbled in other things over time - wrote a Girl Meets World fic I never finished, got really into some teen shows like Pretty Little Liars, 90210, Gossip Girl, etc. when I was a teenager. But I've pretty consistently only posted glee fics.

5. do you respond to comments? why or why not?

Yes, I try to respond to every comment unless it's super short/I have nothing to say. I usually try to avoid spoilers, and I generally like to treat comments more as my opportunity to make friends/chat with readers about the characters/the ship/the plot.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Definitely 11:11, it's a canon compliant one shot about slushy-gate which basically just involves Sebastian and Blaine both independently being angsty about everything that went down and wondering what went wrong in their friendship, and by the time Sebastian comes around and apologizes, it's too late.

Some of my other one shots don't necessary have happy endings, but they do have optimistic endings, so I think 11:11 is the only one that counts as straight up angst.

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I think Something More - don't wanna spoil it, but I think that's the nature of writing a fic where the characters are a little older and you can just feel that the happy ending is permanent, rather than when they're teenagers and happy endings can be very short lived.

8. do you get hate on fics?

Not really, and I can be kinda sensitive lol so I'm glad I don't.

Most of the time if I do get hate, it's not criticizing me as a writer but rather criticizing the way the characters are behaving (which I guess is a reflection of me as a writer because sometimes it's because they don't like the way I've written characters), but I can move past that pretty easily because I realize everyone has different head canons, especially for characters like Sebastian who get like less than 10 episodes of canon screen time.

9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?

Not really? I mean, some of the things I've written toe the line between smut and fade to black (like How Bright We Burn, For Real This Time, & The Way I Loved You, mostly) but I like to think I do so in a way that is way more focused on feelings and emotions than what body part goes where. Even in How Bright We Burn where sex is like a very big part of their arc, most of the way you know what's going on is from Blaine's inner monologue or Sebastian's jokes, not so much from me just like describing the scene.

I mostly don't think I'm great at writing smut, and I've found I really like the style of writing about sex that like Casey McQuiston uses in "Red, White, & Royal Blue" where it's not smut but rather indirectly describing what's going down with a huge focus on the emotions at play. If you've read the book, I feel like you'd understand what I mean, but I don't know how else to describe it.

10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you've ever written?

I do not, mostly because there's not really a fandom I'm as passionate about as Glee that I feel like could go well together. I do hope some day I find the inspiration to write a Flash/Glee crossover fic, but who knows. Back in like 2011 when I first started writing fanfiction, I would sometimes include like one or two characters from other fandoms, maybe as like a roommate when a character went to college or as some background character, but nowadays I prefer to write OCs for those purposes.

11. have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of, but who knows honestly. I did have some writing I did on a fandom Instagram at one point + some edits stolen, and it was crazy because they blocked me so that I wouldn't find out but didn't bother to block any of my friends.

nope :) I feel like someone asked me once if they could, but I never heard anything back from them after I said yes.

13. have you ever cowritten a fic before?

No, but I did some Instagram RP back in the day that felt very much like co-writing. I had this Klaine RP that really helped me develop the way I write Blaine, and I think I had a Blam one too. But I enjoyed writing the friendships a lot more. I was Blaine and really close with someone who played Tina & someone who played Brittany, so those friendships became super important to me.

14. fave all time ship?

I mean,, my favorite to write is Seblaine and I'm obsessed with them. Their relationship is so special to me and I've never enjoyed writing about anyone as much as I do with them. I've been a Glee fan since I was in middle school when it was still on air, but I never really shipped them to this extent until I rewatched for the 800th time during the pandemic. Since then, they've been my OTP. They're both just very dynamic characters with infinite writing potential, and I love that neither of them is perfect, and there's so much from canon left unsaid that I get to explore. I'm also a sucker for friends to lovers and enemies to lovers, and Seblaine has elements of both.

But some other favorite ships include Wolfstar (Harry Potter), firstprince (Red, White, & Royal Blue), Gallavich (Shameless), Shara & Chloe (I Kissed Shara Wheeler), Evelyn & Celia (The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo), Nick & Jess (New Girl), Barney & Robin (How I Met Your Mother), & Jake & Amy (Brooklyn 99).

15. wip you want to finish but doubt you will?

I honestly don't have many of these, mostly because I tend to write entire projects at a time then move onto something else, at least with fanfiction. But I do have this little spooky halloween one shot au I started like two years ago and haven't felt motivated to finish because I'm just not good at writing spooky things.

I also have this sort of longfic I worked on for a really long time as a way to deal with something going on in my life, but I doubt I will ever finish it or post any of it because it's lowkey traumatic (deals with like car accidents & the death of a child) and I doubt anyone would be interested in reading something like that. It's Seblaine but involves a lot of Glee characters I haven't written beyond brief scenes in like 10+ years, like Finn, Rachel, Quinn, etc.

16. what are your writing strengths?

I like to think I'm good at writing like anxiety and very detailed internal monologues. I sometimes feel like I include too much of it, but it's always come very naturally to me. I also think I've gotten a lot better in the last year or so at writing funny side characters and dialogue in a group setting.

And I think I've gotten a lot better at writing chemistry and building that chemistry over time instead of skipping to the good part right away - the evolution of that skill to me is very apparent in how I wrote For Real This Time vs. How Bright We Burn.

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

lol smut

I also think I tend to not trust myself enough and end up writing exactly what's going on instead of like implying it. I just want readers to understand so bad that I sometimes feel the need to explicitly say what a character is thinking or feeling, which isn't always what you want, especially when it's a character whose POV I'm not writing.

Also I think my sentence structure can be kinda not great. I write really long wordy run-on sentences too often when it should probably be reserved as a narrative device.

18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

I know a lot of French - I took it for five and a half years and keep up with it on Duolingo so I don't forget anything. I wouldn't call myself fluent, but I can generally understand it in reading and writing. That's the only language I'd be comfortable writing in other than English, which is SO convenient because you know who else is fluent in French? Sebastian ;)

20. fave fic you've written?

How Bright We Burn! It is my nature that whatever I'm working on at that moment is my favorite thing. I'm really proud of the slow burn in that fic and the character development work I've done for Blaine and Sebastian but also for the side characters like Nick, Jeff, etc. and even my OCs like Ethan. But I'm even more excited about the sequel because it's something I've never really attempted to this extent before, and that's the thing that I'm actively working on since How Bright We Burn is done other than some minor editing.

Let's talk about something that, in some circles, may not be actually a popular opinion LOL because like, in the tag, some people certainly have problems with this situation. BUT. But. Art has always pulled forward things like this.

Let's talk about

✨Messy People Being Messy People ✨

Or, nuance in reading characters in TES.

I am not a fan of hard good vs evil in reads of media so when I see a large section of a fandom discussing nuance, my little heart is just so happy. It's because as a writer, I find the best kinds of heroes are often the ones that make all kinds of terrible mistakes and have to resolve them. And the best kinds of villains are the ones who are doing what they're doing because it is, to them, the only way forward.

Not everything has to be cut and dry, right? And I think TES does a fantastic job in a lot of ways throughout the series of showing that kind of nuance.

Just for an example...hmm. Yes, okay! Morrowind gives us Divayth Fyr. He's QUESTIONABLE on a good day, but how many good days are there really in Morrowind? Not many. Not many at all tbh. He helps the main character, sure, but there is just so much fucked up shit happening in that tower and in House Telvanni to begin with. So nuance. Nuance. And the fact that not everything has to be surface level.

Depth of character is important, both in the source material and in what we, as fanfiction writers, bring to the table in our own work. How do we show these mistakes? How do we redeem characters who need it? How does one come back from certain kinds of mistakes? Can they ever? Why or why not?

I think there's a certain kind of catharsis in analyzing text in this fashion and/or reading more deeply and so...people who are as in love with the nuance of TES's characters and worldbuilding as I am are always welcome here.

ooooh. I love this question! Mostly because tropes can be such good tools! Hmm. It's difficult to pin down one favorite. But I think...

Yes let me ramble on about @paraparadigm's Always Read the Fine Print for two tropes I quite enjoy her hot take on.

The first is Modern Girl In Skyrim / Isekai. I haven't really dove into the deep end of the trope, but the way Para has accomplished worldbuilding for Vera on TWO SIDES is fucking phenomenal. I am as invested in Vee's difficulties in Tamriel as I am in her past, her version of earth and the absolute t r a g e d y it was. Like. I don't want to give away any spoilers but holy hell, was it amazing. I'm rereading it now for the past timelines for ~clues~ in her sequel.

Next is Enemies to Friends to Lovers. This is specifically interesting to me because I don't usually see all three stages in full, or that slow change from each stage. And as it carries into GS, the nature of their relationship is just so fricken nuanced (that word again lol) and I just. I love reading it. I loved to see the entire progression so far. I can't say it enough.

Ulfric Stormcloak was one of my least favorite characters in Skyrim LOL. I think part of it was just the whole situation in Windhelm. The entire situation. He's supposed to be running the place and from the get go we get hella BS, we get a murder mystery with a serial killer on the loose and the guards just...what are they doing?? We get racisms said guards look away from, we get dilapidated slums in which they store actual people out of sight out of mind, and Ulfric is spending all the coin for ... a war? When his people are very clearly suffering? (Granted I do understand some of his point about the war. But the entire situation with the civil war is fucked tbh.)

That is but one read of this man, tbh. And I do, also, write him as a villain in World.

But you know who doesn't? And who shows a whole other facet to this particular character? @thequeenofthewinter. Oh here we go with more nuance :> I love it, I love it. Let me, for a second, plug her fic By the Light of the Moon, which is some of the first exposure I had to her work outside of WIP posts!

If the Jarl is honest with himself, he has been awake more than he would like to be at this strange, in-between hour, and he has grown to both love and loathe its coming and going. On one hand, it is quiet, and it brings with it a type of clarity which helps him conduct his responsibilities in peace, away from the daily bother of the far too fast-paced cadence of his life. And on the other, well, he is tired, both physically and mentally. But this is his job. This is his duty. This is what is required of him in order to keep the people of the land he loves so fervently happy. He puts them and their needs first. His needs are always second because there is no time for Ulfric Stormcloak to be happy. It is very rarely that he indulges himself in thinking about his own happiness. I don’t deserve it, so why would I dare to dream? These types of wishes are for those who have more time on their hands and much less responsibility. When have I ever been allowed to be happy? He turns his head to look at the sleeping form behind him. If there was one thing— Ulfric shakes his head, chasing away the thought as he swirls a glass whiskey and drains it. He has no time for these types of thoughts right now. He has work to do. He turns back to the paperwork on his desk, watching the dark ink of his quill moving fluidly over the parchment he is currently looking over, a request for more supplies to be sent to the Snow Quarter. Ulfric sighs.

I just really love seeing the way things drift through this man's head. I love to see the anxiety. I love this sort of valor, of wanting to do better but already doing the best he can. It's so different from the main source material. But it's also possible. It's also possible. And that's the sort of nuance I do love, that he can be read in so many different ways. I used to dislike him. Hate him even for a myriad reasons. But now I find him relatively sad, except when I read Winter's work. Then I love him lol.

About that Hanahaki fic I mentioned a while ago, I gave it a reread to make sure but yeah, I think you'll like it.

I don't like Hanahaki either most of the time, but this one was so good specifically because it was ALSO a time loop kind of story, with circumstances excruciating enough that them actually acknowledging their feelings is, like. Literally the only thing they can do. Plus the angst of Chuuya's deaths is great.

The summary literally goes "or, Chuuya would much rather die than let Dazai find out he has hanahaki disease."

Chuuya is so desperate to avoid actually acknowledging it and trying to get Yosano's ability to heal him that he makes Dazai thinks the hanahaki is here for MORI. Which is. Hilarious, actually.

The original story was written in 2018, so not everything is accurate but frankly? You can feel the author understood them, better than most of the fandom currently does despite so much more of content for them.

And to celebrate the new year, another rec by AbsoluteNegation called "A Trick of the Tongue". It's a KuniChuuZai fic with Dazai being cursed to tell the truth to any questions unless he confronted the people he hid the most from and told them the truth. It's really nice, kind of cathartic. The fic is tagged "Undernegociated Emotional Honestly" which is just. So Dazai. He does NOT want to do any of that.

Shipwise, Chuuya/Dazai is my OTP but the KuniZai parts of this was very cute, which surprised me because I avoided the story specifically because of it. But it was very nice, well written, especially so character wise, and the poly dynamic works well for what little we had of it.

(Though maybe I enjoy it so much because skk acknowledged that they're still each other's priority... Teehee- (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤)

This was originally a paragraph but I'm gonna try to shorten it gnbdkj: I really dislike anything that includes Kunizai, or variants of it. I just dislike Kunikida as a character, honestly. So I knew for sure I wouldn't that fic wouldn’t be for me. I skimmed it, and, yeah, it isn't. Still appreciate the intention though <3

And I originally had a much longer reply for this that I was working on, but I decided to scrap most of it for various reasons, the most prominent being that I got really judgemental and honestly a little mean by accident 💀

I'm going to try to pick the parts of the original reply that I still find fitting and insert them here, maybe edit them to be nicer if needed. Sorry this reply is so NEEDLESSLY late 😭 If I knew I was gonna end up here I could've sent this so LONG ago.

(constructive, to the best of my ability) criticism that nobody asked for of that same fic. Because I’m picky and overly opinionated 😔

Tulip-typical unrelated unnecessary unsolicited rants. I’d like to believe you know the drill.

Also! I do believe any and every piece of art earns its right to constructive criticism by simply existing, BUT, I also recognize that fanfiction is purely written for fun, as a passion project, Not That Serious, and that the writer doesn’t get paid in any way, shape, or form for it. Which then means that despite the work being valid for criticism, the author is not.

This is why I’m writing this in my own personal internet space, in no way addressing it to the writer (or anyone else who doesn’t wish to read it), and in no way ever going to send it to the writer (or anyone else who doesn’t wish to read it)!! Because they didn’t ask for it and I respect that!! And I sincerely hope everyone else does, too 💕

This isn’t meant to attack anybody. All of the opinions are purely my own, this is a subjective piece and by no means supposed to or claiming to express universal truth. Yada yada.

Again, I appreciate all the work the translator has put into making this fic accessible for english speakers!! Even though I wouldn’t say it’s exactly my cup of tea, I can still appreciate the effort and think the love the fic has gotten is deserved and warranted <3

The characterizations are pretty good, in my opinion. There are certain moments where I could even call them great, and there are a few parts that I absolutely LOVED. I haven’t paid much attention to the chapter numbers, so I can’t be concrete about the placement in the story, but most of the 3rd time loop was really fun and pleasant to read!!

And I also really loved the ending of the 2nd time loop. I think where this fic peaks for me is from the switch to Dazai’s POV in the 2nd loop, to the start of the conversation Dazai and Chuuya have about the mole towards the end of the 3rd.

First of all, I really liked Chuuya’s 2nd death. Which is why the Peak Section starts there absjsjsj I don’t find it particularly angsty, personally, but that’s not a problem because it didn’t need to be. Like the way he immediately, instinctively goes to Dazai in his last moments… Because he knows Dazai would understand, and that’s what he needs, in that moment. He knows he’s not going to last but he at least wants to be able to find that comfort within Dazai. And he recognizes that the world, the moment they’re in is temporary, which is why he does it. He’s on the brink of death, and he’s like “Fuck it, this won’t matter anyway. They’ll forget anyway. I’ll at least have this” and then the way he kisses him before dying is so ANSKSJ!!!!

I loved that part sooo much, honestly. Got me squealing and shit. Like the fucking themes!!!!!!! The character exploration of that!!!!!! The way Chuuya could only (well. debatable. but this is how I wish it was 😔) actually gain the courage to kiss Dazai when he knew it wouldn’t matter!!! When he knew it’d be temporary and Dazai would forget!!! It was a last minute act of uncharacteristic selfishness for Chuuya!!! And he was only capable of doing it because he knew it wouldn’t affect other people!!! The only time when Chuuya is capable of putting himself first is it doesn’t have an impact on others!!!!!! Sjfwnskensm ☆:.｡. o(≧▽≦)o .｡.:☆

Then, I also loved the 3rd loop all together. Best one by a landslide, for me. From the get-go, the opening is really good because it really feels like we’re getting in the proper time-loop Vibe, where Chuuya doesn’t want to waste time anymore. But it’s not the Desperate kind of time-loop because it’s still only the 3rd time. So he’s chilling and eating his breakfast and thinking about how to work this out. And then he comes to the appropriate conclusion that he’s, ironically, dependent on Dazai’s help, out of all people.

He slowly comes to terms with that. He makes elaborate plans to get Dazai to help without revealing anything he doesn’t have to. Very Chuuya, very good.

I love how cute the scene where he gets to Dazai’s apartment is <3 Imagining Dazai sleepy with sbsjsbsj tousled hair and slumped shoulders and cute pyjamas and tired eyes was SOOO nice for some reason?? I never think about ADA!Dazai’s like. Capacity for sleep, I guess. And I’ve thought about it for PM!Dazai and I do think he probably slept in his work clothes and looked like a disturbed cat if woken up 😭 I can’t imagine him sluggish and soft like that, just irritated. But for ADA!Dazai that just works so well??? Like I’m obsessed with it???? For some reason??? And this fic did describe that in a way that I really liked and that absolutely FED this need I didn’t even know I had.

Anyway. Their conversation on the couch was SO good and so in character I almost died. Giggling and kicking my feet. (⸝⸝ᵕᴗᵕ⸝⸝) And I kept visualizing it with Chuuya in a full suit, sitting properly on that couch—very elegant, you know, and Dazai being sooo messy and half-laying on the armrest with his feet tucked under him. I don’t think anybody but me sees the vision but whatever. I need to get my new sleepy Dazai obsession in check.

I particularly liked the whole thing about Chuuya schooling himself on how to keep the Hanahaki hidden and how to refuse the 10 million demands Dazai was bound to make but then 😭 Not having to use any of that 😭 Because he pulled the “I trust you” card and Dazai FOLDED 😭 Golden, honestly.

The whole thing about Dazai being infiltrated as Chuuya’s secretary was also soooo fun. And their conversation in the car was pretty cool. I have a little problem with it (that being that Chuuya not being able to speak doesn't feel like as big of a deal as it should be because of the capacity for lip-reading. Not just in this scene, but overall. I get the symbolic meaning but I was also hoping it would matter a lot more than it did and be a bigger struggle, plot-wise), but it’s ultimately fine and I liked it overall <33

Uhhh. Other than this.. I liked Ranpo in those two scenes he was in. He was very Ranpo. Oh! And the thing about Dazai having a way to replicate Chuuya’s voice!!! That was super cool and in character! I loved that head-canon a lot ( ˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈♡)

Onto the negative parts.

Like most soukoku fics out there, this fic also falls into that problem I briefly touched on before. The relationship is too conventional for my personal preferences. And I’ll try to explain that more, to the best of my ability.

First of all, I really don’t think soukoku’s relationship could be defined as purely romantic, which really makes confessions as a whole trope kind of impossible to imagine for me. I also don’t think there’s a Universe where they’d ever agree to dating, and especially not the canon Universe. This is why I had my skepticisms for this fic, which did actually end up getting proven 😔 This is went exactly how I expected it to.

Yeah, Chuuya doesn’t acknowledge his feelings for a long time, and tries his best to push them down, but that’s not because he can’t decipher what they are. He immediately knows the Hanahaki is for Dazai, which meant that my only idea of how this could go in a way I personally agree with was out the window. And the reason he holds back on confessing is a clicheic fear of rejection.

I just think their feelings for each other are too complex to be described and acknowledged this simply. And by the word ‘acknowledge’ I also mean the characters themselves acknowledging it in their consciousness, not only acknowledging it aloud, or to the other.

(Alongside him saying that he was waiting to build up his romantic relationship with Dazai slowly?? Which means he DID acknowledge his feelings, and he was planning to do it to Dazai’s face too, just not now. He was always going to do something about it. So why does the plot even happen?)

Not to mention that while Chuuya is emotionally constipated… Dazai literally just isn’t. In the fic’s Universe, he literally (tried to, at least) confessed to Chuuya at 17. Absolutely unprompted. Dazai, the way I view him, would never do that in a million years. He’d rather go through the most gruesome torture methods than do that. And he wouldn’t be able to do it earnestly, either. He doesn’t view his feelings for Chuuya as romantic. He recognizes that they’re very unique feelings and that he doesn’t actually hate Chuuya, but he doesn’t know enough about human feelings to call his feelings for Chuuya anything but the confusing, contradictory amalgamation they actually are. In my head, he is even worse at feelings than Chuuya is, despite recognizing his feelings more than Chuuya does.

Safe to say, the last chapter is my least favorite out of the fic. Which seems to be a pattern with soukoku fanfic when it comes to me, really. The premise is good, the execution is decent enough, but it all gets slaughtered in the end when the author gets overtaken by the weird completely unnecessary need to shove a label and a conventional relationship dynamic down their throats.

Not all relationships need labels. Soukoku’s doesn’t allow for one. A label would ruin them. And their relationship is entirely fine as it is, it doesn’t need any reworking from a fanfic writer to fit a certain framework that was assigned because of the preconceived notion that any and all romantic feelings lead to a confession of those feelings and then get shoved under a label.

If soukoku ever “dated” or referred to each other as “boyfriends” or anything of the like that would like. Erase so much of their mirth and appeal. The whole reason I like them is because they have this whole incomprehensible kind of thing going on that makes them so interesting.

And also, I don’t think Hanahaki disease, ability or not, would be able to distinguish between physical labels either. And the fic says it doesn’t, right? It says the Hanahaki disappears when the person feels a kind of relationship accomplishment, like that other person belongs to them, right?

I believe soukoku already feel that. In this fic they don’t, sure, because the need to make this a conventional relationship has also fucked over their contentment with where they stand, but I think they feel that. As their adult selves, they do. If this isn’t about labels, or preconceived notions of what a relationship looks like, then they already feel like that. The Hanahaki wouldn’t happen in the first place.

Why didn’t?? Chuuya regain his voice when Dazai confessed???? Why did HE need to be the one to fucking say it?? This isn’t even about any kind of belief I’ve had before or me trying to make a bigger point, I was just genuinely, FULLY expecting him to gain it there. Him saying it too was wholly unnecessary.

Dazai, as a character, is complex in the particular way that makes him unable to have a conventional relationship with… Anyone. He is not made for romantic relationships. He can barely stomach friendships. He is so against labeling as a concept because of the implications of said labels, because the labels are preconceived and his own feelings always feel so much bigger and daunting and so much more unique than what the definitions of them imply. Or, on the opposite side, he wants to pretend that they’re actually less than what the definition says, and that’s why it doesn’t fit.

I can see Chuuya dating someone, distantly, I can. I can see him settling for that conventionality but only under very, very specific circumstances which Dazai (or any of the other people I ship him with, but Dazai especially) don’t meet.

Chuuya’s also too embarrassed in this for my personal characterization of him?? If Dazai confessed to Chuuya (which, again, Dazai would not do!!! Ever!!!!), I feel like Chuuya would be more bewildered than embarrassed. And he definitely wouldn’t flail around like a fucking fish like he does here? This scene was mostly just pointless fluff with no substance. The way they stood around and basically did nothing for no reason... Sighh. The start of this chapter was so promising, too. I was hoping Chuuya would go to his old apartment to look for the earrings. Dazai randomly appearing there and fucking conveniently remembering the previous time loops with no explanation ruined it.

On the other hand, while on the subject, if Chuuya confessed to Dazai, Dazai would do everything he can to get away from that situation, and he’d never want to interact with Chuuya again. He finds that idea wholly repulsive, in contrast to Chuuya, but not because he doesn’t love Chuuya. What is repulsive to him is the commitment, and again the implications of that label. The cage it puts him, and his relationship with Chuuya in. He’d rather lose his relationship with Chuuya than allow it to turn into that abomination. Which says a lot because losing Chuuya/his relationship with Chuuya is one of the things Dazai is most scared of.

And I also don’t like how everyone else immediately knows it’s Dazai too. How Dazai himself knows and ASSUMES it is from the smallest little things. How Kunikida assumes so too?? From that basic ass description Chuuya gave??? Kunikida would have a heart attack if the idea of Dazai and Chuuya being romantically involved even PASSED his mind. He would not let it wander there so carelessly. He’d deny it to hell and back even if these fuckers were making out in front of him (Which they wouldn’t do, by the way, but you get the point)

Plus, Kouyou and Hirotsu and whoever else I might be missing…

One of my biggest fandom pet peeves is people claiming Dazai and Chuuya’s feelings for one another are obvious. I hate when people do that shit.

Yeah, they’re obvious to us, as the AUDIENCE, because we see all of their interactions and their thought process through light novels and we are taught to understand their secret language. Most romantic soukoku interactions happen in secluded spaces. Nobody is seeing them. The dungeon fight, Dead Apple, Lovecraft, the most romantic moments of Fifteen and Stormbringer. They all happen between the two of them, or with the only people as witnesses being people that fucking DIE. Imo the most romantic moment from Fifteen (outside of Dazai’s thoughts), is that moment when Dazai says he is going to convince Chuuya to die so Rimbaud allows them to whisper between themselves, and in that moment he actually tells Chuuya he has a plan and he asks Chuuya if he trusts him… Actually. I’m SO fucking passionate about this scene lemme pull up my copy of the book and yap a little… Fic review on hold for a moment so I can go crazy!!!

Like just. Do you fucking see this shit? This is as gay as it gets. The dialogue from the second image genuinely feels like flirting. And also just. Aughhjensjsn Dazai asking Chuuya if he trusts him so blatantly and Chuuya changing the subject. He does. He does. They barely met and he does so much and it kind of fucks him up. People always go crazy over Dazai’s “love confession” which they also often misinterpret, but where is the going crazy over THIS scene? The easiness with which they talk, the implicit trust, the way they say each other’s names so??? teasingly?? Dazai outright saying that Chuuya has convinced him to live a little more, even though he plays it off as a joke? The fact that they’re fucking WHISPERING to one another. Just. The way soukoku’s bonding always takes place when they’re fighting alongside one another. It is such a particular kind of trust and vulnerability that is so them.

But, going back to the actual point, this scene is hushed and takes place only between the two of them. Even though Rimbaud is a bystander, even though he fucking dies later on, he isn’t even included in it. For practical reasons, yes, but this just happens time and time again, from a more metaphorical standpoint. He is not allowed in on that conversation because it is a vulnerable, distinctly soukoku moment.

This. Is. How. All. Of. Them. Are. Nobody ever fucking sees it, if they did, it wouldn’t happen. The only shit outsiders see is their cryptic fighting and the other aspects of their relationship, that without these token moment lose most romantic connotations. And even if they didn’t, they way these two communicate is fucking weird!! Nobody would be able to get it!!! They see them at each other’s throats so much more than anything else!!! Their relationship isn’t the stereotypical playful bickering that people like to pretend it is!! They’re not fighting like an old married couple!!! They’re fighting like they want to deck each other in the teeth!!! Nobody besides them (and, again, us as the audience because we get shown all the nuances in a way the characters don’t) gets the homoerotic undertones of their violence!!!! Because they ARE just undertones!!!

Trust me, nobody but Ranpo and Dostoyevsky are even CONSIDERING that these fuckers are or will ever be romantically involved. And especially not fucking KUNIKIDA 😭😭

Okay. I think you get the gist. Sorry if this is still needlessly aggressive :(( I tried my best to make it nicer without deleting important things??

Bottom line is, I cannot accept soukoku dating. Ever. In any context. In any Universe. Love confessions I can accept under incredibly dire consequences. I actually have a soukoku AU in my kilometric to write list that is conceptualized with this exact premise—the purpose of it is breaking Dazai down psychologically so horridly that he is willing to merely say he loves Chuuya. And that would take SO much work in itself. Just that. This isn’t psychological horror enough to actually warrant either of them confessing.

And also sorry if the paragraphs seem like they don’t relate to each other?? I kept remembering things I wanted to say down the line and trying to find proper places to insert them but I might’ve failed…

Okay, now to summarize the points I scrapped:

Chuuya's deaths barely have any kind of importance. They might as well not even be happening. I was hoping for a more horror-like approach but I might just be obsessed with making skk suffer and go through unimaginable horros

Piggybacking on that previous point, the loop is too short to feel impactful to me 😔 I like my time loops extra long with sprinkled crises of every kind

The juggling between having a set, logical plot and being an unexplainable "it's just fate" kind of deal makes both of them feel half-baked and unsatisfying. I'm not against using the idea of fate/destiny/a higher power for convenience but that still has to be executed right, like any idea

I hate that the Hanahaki is an ability!!! Why!!!!! That not only ruins a lot of symbolic elements but also contradicts the lore?? Abilities aren't hereditary. How come the doctor Hirotsu knew that was studying it is dead but the ability user isn't?

The way Dazai randomly remembers the previous loops is very annoying and irritating and frustrating and nonsensical and I despise it and he frankly didn't need to. Doesn't this defeat the whole point of the message, anyway? Chuuya doesn't actually even get his fear of rejection, Dazai just solves that for him. There is virtually no character growth

The ending feels unsatisfying. What happened to the whole plot??????????????? I don't care for it bc I greatly dislike the plot but you might as well wrap it up 😭

Chuuya is NOT stupid enough to not open that 17th birthday gift, or to think what he thinks in regards to it. Additionally, Dazai is not stupid enough to believe Chuuya's lie about the Hanahaki being for Mori. His emotional attachment to Chuuya would make him analyze and obsess about that lie MORE, not less. He'd clock that shit with remarkable speed

As I've briefly mentioned, Chuuya not being able to speak has wonderful symbolic purpose, but no actual narrative/character purpose. I was hoping it would be more of a problem, not that most characters would suddenly be lip-reading experts, especially not in a rearview mirror??

If it's worth anything, things that I believe have untapped potential always inspire me to make my own version in a way I would personally like, so reading this has added a skk Hanahaki fic onto my infinite "to write" list... Not sure if I'll ever get to it, but I now have a lot of ideas of how I could subvert this trope, so.

A Brave New Start

Long time no see! It was about time I posted something here and, while it is fanfic related, it's not exactly the kind of thing I usually post. Now, look at this screenshot:

Brave New World is a very old Pokémon OC fanfiction I started working on back in 2017. It was a highly ambitious project that never really reached its destination, although I managed to write twelve chapters. Most of the tags don't actually reflect characters or events that one could find within these chapters, but rather things that would or should happen in the future. However, these things won't be happening now. In fact, if you go to my AO3, you won't find this fic. I deleted it on January 28th because I'm redoing this story.

Why January 28th? Because it's the day of 2017 I came up with the concept for this Brave New World's protagonist, Juliette Ronson. It's actually pretty silly: it all started because I saw that in one of the shops in SM they had both a cap and a pair of shoes themed after Zygarde. I suddenly thought, "What if I created a Trainer OC whose goal is reuniting all of the Zygarde Cells and having it as her partner?".

I actually started working on this story not long after, but then USUM were announced and I decided to wait and see what happened with Necrozma in these games because I really wanted to include it in the fic. Seeing its tragic backstory in canon made me want to portray it in a sympathetic light with Juliette being its biggest defender, but now that I look at my old notes I can see I gave it all a very melodramatic spin lol.

Many things will change for Brave New World, its main pairing being one of them. As you can see, I intended to ship Juliette with Kiawe. However, Game Freak has recently presented us with a character who, after some time, I came to see as a better fit for her (Hint: read the fanfic's summary and see if it reminds you of someone). I'd love to go on a tangent about this topic, but I'd rather save it for another day. This is not to say that Kiawe will no longer be a part of Juliette's life, they will be friends regardless. In fact, Juliette will still have a crush on him for some part of the story, but she decides it's best to let it go because of reasons (Spoiler: he's taken).

Something that won't change is having my friend as a co-author of the story. Not only she offers interesting ideas and good insight, she also allows me to have one of her OCs in it and I wouldn't have it any other way. My friend's OC is called Luana and she becomes Juliette's closest friend. Their personalities contrast and complement each other at the same time, making them an interesting duo. I can't wait to write about their interactions again!

That's all I have to say about Brave New World for now. I always try to work on the new version's draft here and there, whenever my busy student schedule allows me to lol. I will post stuff about the rewriting process from time to time because I'm pretty excited about sharing this renewed version. I think it will not just show my growth as a writer, but also as a person.

Earlier on this blog, I said that I wanted to show yall my OCs, remember ? Then here's one of them.

I present you Tallo the throne !

He's the main character of my OP AUs called "Hybrids" (yea I know I'm original).

WARNING SPOILERS ! If you didn't read the last chapter (1105), you'll be spoiled !

In this AU, the MG used the bustercall and destroyed Egghead.

Also this AU is canon with a Kataking french fanfiction made by @lawesculape, where King is living with Katakuri on Whole Cake Island after their captains's death. That's all you need to know to understand this AU.

Tallo was born as a test project, not classified as a seraphim like the ones you know, but as the first generation of lunarian hybrid made by Vegapunk about 18years ago : the Thrones.

But even after years under the control of the scientists, the thrones were still too rampageous and destructive to be used, so Vegapunk choosed to cryogenize them and locked them up on a basement far under the ground, far from the laboratories.

To make a long story short, when the bustercall was declared, an old scientist stayed on Egghead, released Tallo and helped him to run away from Egghead with a strange portal (an old unfinished experiment of the scientist). He was released randomly on one of the little islands of Whole Cake.

Weeks later, he will be discovered by King and Katakuri on Katakuri's island.

Annnd I think that's enought for now. It will be too long if I say everything I want in only one post lol. There's a lot to say about Tallo and also, there's some other OCs I've created for this AU. I'm so exited to talk to you about them.

Well I suppose right now the biggest thing is just finish the main fic I'm doing for Bound by Fate lol. From there I can move onto stuff I have very vaguely planned out in my head for the future of the au. The amount of effort it's taking to hold myself back from talking about a lot of spoiler stuff is immense. There's so much I can't say yet.... Anyway, especially excited for both Sonic and Knuckles to progress through their little character arcs I have planned for em. This including them falling for each other. That will be a hot minute though; fic is tagged slow burn for a reason.

In a more broad sense I just want to keep enjoying what I'm doing. If people also like it along the way? Awesome! Always happy to make someone's day just a little brighter with my silly little fanfiction I write lol.

Here's some fun, non-to-lightly spoilery Rift AU thoughts for everyone!

So Ren in Rift AU is inspired by the faon interpretation [maybe closer to canon? I havent watched s7] of Mayor Scar mixed w the Red King from 3rd Life - Specifically, Ren is inspired by @mochiwrites's Scar in her Good Crimes AU [Which if you haven't read you ABSOLUTELY should]. I just love how she wrote Scar to be publicly one way and Privately another, and while I certainly don't imagine that Ren the King is quite as beloved, the inspiration is there.

Originally, Rift AU was tagged w Watcher Grian but I changed that because I want to mess with the Rift as it's own separate force and leave the Watchers for something else. I think the Watchers [And Listeners! *looks at Martyn*] function more as an ancient, ANCIENT religion, maybe even older than the ancient cities.

Also another original idea that's been put to the side for now is that the Warden was a watcher - I don't know where I was originally going with that idea, but it was my first pivot after deciding Grian wasn't going to be the watcher.

For anyone curious, and because I don't know if I'll name it directly in the stories or just leave it more ambiguous, I'm basing Scar's mobility issues and chronic pain off my own experiences with Cerebral Palsy, among other things. I have a very mild for of Cerebral Palsy that left me with a weaker right side and mobility issues and I absolutely wanted to make sure Scar was still disabled even if he isn't wheelchair bound. I imagine that he certainly has a wheelchair for bad days, but those would be like. Really bad days. The staff - to - cane that he has, made out of the same magical wood as his tree, is probably good for most of the sort of bad days.

Rift AU actually started as a way for me to explore sculk and ancient cities in fiction, which is funny given that we are now 17k in and counting with no mention of either. I have plans for it, but the story needed more work up than I was originally anticipating, which is great! I'm really enjoying returning to my roots with fanfiction, which is the whole reason I started writing Rift AU in the first place

Obviously I'm sort of picking and choosing what elements from hermitcraft [and the life series] I want to include in Rift AU but I am a little bit grumpy that I started writing it before I really fully understood the king plot [When I started, I had only watched Grian and Etho. Now I've caught up on Ren, Impulse, Mumbo, and Cleo, with plans to watch Pearl, Tango, Zedaph, and Doc next. I also really want to watch Beef and Iskall lol] because now I really wanna jam the whole royal council shenanigans in there and I'm not gonna be able to without probably retconning Scar and Ren's relationship which I refuse to do!

Obviously, Mumscarian and Treebark are in the story, and there's also going to be platonic Soup Group and platonic Team ZITS [bc. Skizz deserves to be here. I love him]. I won't tell you ALL of the pairings that end up in the story because a. I feel like we're be here all day but b. some of them are spoilers but I AM planning on having Solidaritek [Apparently team ranchers is only for platonic or something???] and ZedBeef and also Ethubs all make their own appearances. There might even be some like short stories following a few of the other couples in the story because I have attachments to Ethubs in particular. IDK if you can tell but Etho is my favorite hermit and I used to watch him all the way back in 2011 on his singleplayer world. I remember the boat dispenser. My baby girl.

One of these days I will genuinely type up an essay about my latent energy theory but in case anyone else is interested here's a very short tldr version: Redstone, Glowstone, End Rods, debatably sculk [I havent decided if it falls into the same category yet tbh], etc etc all power themselves via latent energy. That latent energy is compatible with electricity in some way, as evidenced by the fact that lightning rods can be used to power redstone machines, but it's different. More in between electricity and magic - either because it actually is or because it's not as understood by the people who work it. That same latent energy is the stuff magic feeds off, like is seen in Changing of the Season to help rejuvenate Scar. Whatever it is is old. Older than the Ancient Cities since they knew to build redstone machines to distract the Warden. It's older than the end cities, too, since end rods exist. Arguably it has always been and will always be around in some way.

Also this might not interest anyone else but thoughts on vampires and elves. Vampires are more closely related to Zombies, whereas Elves [Who are Fae, which means the Vex are included here] are more closely related to Endermen than anything [<- that will come up again] - and then the Warden and sculk are like. Very distant cousins of vampires. Sort of. Their trees connect somewhere.

Omg I watched The 100 recently and I noticed you have some stuff about it on your blog so I was wondering what your thoughts on it were? Favorite characters? Thoughts on the ending? Anything else you liked/disliked? I really want to hear people’s thoughts, lol.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Ahhh The 100. This show was such a strange beast--I started it one night last year while in the thick of lockdown, just wanting something to half-watch while writing, and two episodes in realised I was FULLY hooked. I pulled three all-nighters in a week and before long was caught up on all six seasons... and then season 7 happened.

I never even finished the show. As soon as I got the spoiler that Bellamy died I lost absolutely all interest. I was burned by Game of Thrones; never again.

That said, along the way it was AMAZING. Bellamy and Clarke's relationship is so fascinating to watch unfold. They go through so much together and they PUT each other through so much but like... the head and the heart. They were so well suited to each other, and you could tell that they really loved each other and KNEW THAT even if the romantic/sexual attraction was never realized. I hadn't seen a relationship quite like this one before, and I haven't seen one since. It was an enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, which is my jam, but there was something so unique in the way they were so open about their love for each other while friends that just hits different.

I mean, like most shows, there were some head-scratcher moments that were clearly writers trying to make their plot work, consequences be damned (Jasper and co.'s deaths and Luna's fuckery come to mind) but it also had some absolute gold. Besides Bellamy and Clarke there are so many interesting and enjoyable relationship dynamics: Bellamy and Octavia's relationship is wonderful, as is Jasper and Monty's, and the shifting dynamics and pseudo-political drama between Abby, Jaha, and Kane are also fantastic. And Raven! What a woman! Even the characters who came and went and broke my heart along the way I loved. This show had some shining moments, I tell you.

Plus: MURPHY

I have never--NEVER--had such a turnabout of feelings for a character in my entire life. Season one Murphy could get fucked I HATED him I could have watched him die a long and painful death with popcorn in hand and completely dry eyes. By season five? I would die, kill, and maim for this man, my sweet boy, darling asshole. Murphy's character development is SPECTACULAR and the role Emori plays in it is so perfect too. It would have been so easy for the writers to have Emori change him, or try to, but they didn't and I thank them for that. These two start off strong because they're both the same kind of twisted and then change TOGETHER, getting stronger along the way. Truly, this power-bastard couple is the bomb. I also love that so much of that change is discussed between the two of them; they are both active agents in their own growth AND in each other's. It's beautiful. I'm not over it.

So yes. Ah, the 100. There's a reason I often tag shit from this show with something along the lines of being still bitter or "we could have had it all" because season 7 was boring and stupid and a GoT-level-fuck-you to the fans. I will never forgive the show for this, but after some time I might rewatch it (but I would stop after season 5, I think. I would be happy with an ending like that one, a new hope, a fresh start. And then fanfiction of them all living their best lives with Bellarke and Memori babies all over the place, god bless)
