the idea that alicent & alicent alone (or at least the tone ppl take which suggests that) is responsible for his failings is just bs to me. was she a good mother? no. but we (viewers, members of society at large, etc) tend to treat “being a bad mother” as the most unforgivable offense, a moral stain that can never be washed out regardless of context or circumstance. like why was everyone cheering when otto dunked on aegon in episode 2 but when alicent lashes out at him (bc he IS an incompetent ruler) she’s an evil bitch who made him king all by herself and should have had a better plan. despite the fact that there was a literal years-long plot by the entire council to usurp rhaenyra’s claim and install him as ruler, irrespective of alicent saying viserys changed his mind. as though she alone should have been preparing him for being king when she stated multiple times that rhaenyra was the rightful queen, EVEN THOUGH she believed rhaenyra was a threat to her kids should she ascend the throne

like just be fr for a sec….bc HOW exactly was she supposed to become a “good” mother? to the children conceived through rape when she herself was only a child? like YEAH sure she’s not a perfect mom but like??? it’s COMPLICATED and nuance is important! she loves them she hates them she wants better for them she resents them for being born. they represent the loss of her innocence they represent all of her hopes. she wants to comfort them but never received comfort herself and doesn’t know how. she wants to guide them and can’t connect. no one respects her and they don’t either. she has no power but that which is afforded to her as “mother of the king” which is the only role a woman of her status is allowed to fill and she is helpless to wield it. it’s a MESS like of course she wasn’t a good mother. but aegon is not That Way simply bc of alicent and it’s totally reductive to frame it that way

I dont know why but for a while now all the Tord stuff has been leaving a bad taste in my mouth cause before it was “guys dont ask us about Tord stop asking ugh so annoying” to “hey guys dropping more Tord merch, episodes, spinoff show and also gonna send him over to do a concert with Miku” or some shit like ok they realized he is a cash cow its okay to admit that but idk, as much as I love Tord i feel like it would have been better to let him go bury him in satin laid down on a bed of roses sunk into the river at dawn sent away with the words of a love song.
