Might be a hot take as a bkdk and tgck truther here, but I find izuocha endlessly fascinating, beautiful, but also tearfully tragic.

I see their love for each other as something representative of their innocence and naivety when they only knew so little about who they were, and what was to come.

I think the main barrier of their relationship is that its rooted in how they see each other very idealistically, specifically that they're attached to the image of their Best Heroic Selves, and not the deeply selfish, destructive, freaky, and egotistical parts of them. To each other, they need to keep fulfilling that image or else that same person they looked up to would almost die in front of them, and that would be too cruel. Although that hero is still there, that same person they looked up to is not the same now because of...well...everything.

Izuku had barely even talked to girls when he first met her. She was Izuku's first ever real friend (Sorry Kats, everyone and him knows he was terrible), so he saved her in that entrance exam even if it was so dangerous. She gave a new meaning to his derogatory nickname just by being a friend that believed in him. After that, she saved him several more times (Blackwhip and Megaphone are the biggest samples iirc). It makes perfect sense that she is Deku's hero.

Ochako hardly knew what it meant to be a hero when she first got into UA. Just by reaching out to some kid tripping, she made a new friend who would then save her in that exam, then save him again in return. This boy then became someone who was always working so hard to save everyone in trouble, and she realized she wanted to be just like him too. "I want to save people"

But...Deku changes. The weight of One for All is on his shoulders and he needs someone to carry this burden with him. He continues to want to save other people at the expense of himself, still not letting his true selfishness and ego ever show- and it only grows more and more unbearable.

Then...Ochako fell in love with Himiko. Truly, relentlessly, selfishly and devotedly in love with a girl who then dies giving her blood to her- the greatest expression of love Himiko could ever give.

Not that they can't love each other because of this happening (and...so many other things oh god), I'm honestly not sure how to explain it- But them ending up together after losing that innocence and naivety? After Ochako will forever grieve the girl who showed her love in its most beautiful and ugly form? After Izuku changed so fundamentally as a person that the butterflies of a nice girl talking to you doesn't exist anymore? After that simple image of being a hero and being in love has completely changed for them both?

Even so, I believe they still love each other. There is no label I know of that can properly describe them though. They are each other's image of being a hero when it comes to saving people. Aside from Shoto, no one else can grasp the grief of the person you tried to save dying in your hands. They would no doubt try to cope with these losses together, and just try to get better together...but so much has changed. They've changed. The world changed. What are they now? Who are they now?

oh yeah i saw your reblog of togami fun fact and i think i followed you because you chew on him so well. do you have posts of your thoughts on togami's backstory? (you can answer privately btw)

i straight up don't remember if i've ever posted in length about my byakuya backstory headcanons (if i ever did they'd be catalogued under '#my thoughts' probably, that's the tag i use for my fandom posts) but! just for you i will list a few that i have off of the top of my head

i liked the concept of the togami novel and ended up perceiving the heir struggle as like. not a necessarily organized competition (what with heir prospectives trying to assassinate each other or otherwise blackmail, threaten, or force each other out of the running) but more a survival challenge with occasional tests of cleverness, strength, etc. and byakuya managed to win by manipulation and sheer force of will, and doing things that might be considered 'underhanded' or 'shameful' (see: polaris p polanski) -> testament to ambition

byakuya says something cringe in thh like 'im perfect in every way. wits, ability, and body' which always pissed me off but as a result i ended up seeing him as like. above average in athletics, maybe good agility and reaction time? and capable of self-defense, but definitely nowhere near professional levels, and not in a way that's obvious from looking at him

re: physical ability and 'perfection', i don't think he's an 'ultimate' anything aside from 'ultimate progeny'. like he's not the ultimate stock-broker or the ultimate viola-player, but he can do both things pretty well. more of a jack-of-all-trades master-of-none kind of talent. maybe that eats at him a little, the fact that he won't ever be truly outstanding in one single field until he becomes togami head

also re: physical ability, he gets his blue eyes from his mother's side, so he's more sensitive to light. but his mild near-sightedness and need for corrective lenses is from his father's side. he doesn't know this though, so he blames his mother's genetic for all of it

he was planning to get lasik after becoming head of the family but. well. lol

he's half-french. his mother is french. i dont think ive ever posted about mamagami but ive definitely made mention of her in my fic, though at this point she's more of an oc than anything since there's like, no canon info about her at all. but she's a french sculptor who did not want a child and does not want any relation to the togami family other than having them as like. art clients. a cool lady very dedicated to her profession and could have been the ultimate sculptor, but kind of a emotionally neglectful mother ngl

there probably is some more canon info on papagami , aka kijo togami's character but i haven't really bothered looking for it. instead i made him into a sad little man who kind of hates his role as togami head and would've preferred a more mundane life (like as an architect - i actually did make a post about this somewhere), but he won his generation's heir competition because he felt like he had to, not because he necessarily wanted to. for reasons yet unsaid

byakuya spent the first part of his vulnerable youth being emotionally neglected at his mother's villa/art studio in france (hence the bilingualism hinted in the canon). when he left to join the heir competition after one too many assassination attempts he got one of his mom's business partners and former exes (a guy named 'polanski') to shelter him

byakuya's impressions of his parents: his mom sucks (fair i suppose) and his dad lacks real ambition and isn't suited to his role. or at least, he could be surpassed very easily. byakuya plans to make himself the greatest heir ever seen because of his shit parent combo

byakuya's known pennyworth the butler since birth. i have this idea that each togami kid gets just one togami family servant to help shape them into their roles. pennyworth happens to be the oldest of the roster but also the most experienced, and is kind of a shifty old man (i.e: very cunning and more loyal to the family than the child he's been assigned to, though that changes as byakuya gets older)

byakuya's also probably a girl and bisexual but he''s trying to take over the world through his shitty family's conglomerate and then survive a murder game apocalypse so she doesn't really care about that rn

just had to say, i loved your tags on that post about the upperclassmen and how they treat kevin/andrew/neil. fandom tends to work on this "they're all assholes" beliefs, and it's not necessarily untrue. but i think people tend to forget just how unlikeable kevin and andrew are from the upperclassmens perspective. i think people also forget the upperclassmen didn't just blindly love neil. for all his faults, like you said, he was pretty chill. he was much easier to get along with and it helped massively that unlike kevin/andrew he actually wanted to make a connection with the upperclassmen.

im glad my tags resonated with you! i have this half-cooked thesis that maybe one day i'll get around to fleshing out about the difference between individual responsibility and collective responsibility that i always think about when i see this conversation pop up--something about how yes, we as a society have a responsibility to people who have been harmed to try and help them recover, but that responsibility doesnt actually apply to every individual person. in this case, the idea that wymack founded the foxes (an institution) in order to help people move forward and build a future doesnt mean that every individual involved in the foxes has to invest all their energy in that same goal. in fact its pretty wild to expect every beneficiary of a service to simultaneously provide it to those around them.

the institution has to be be fair, has to provide help independent of some arbitrary category of 'deserving' but individuals...dont have to do that. every fox signed on to escape their own nightmare, not to help fix the other foxes. the upperclassmen have no responsibility to reach out to kevin and andrew when they have been so hostile in return. wymack has to, because he made a commitment to doing so. the upperclassmen didnt.

and as you said--the question of why the upperclassmen were nicer to neil is straightforwardly answered by he wasnt mean to them. he was sometimes unnecessarily blunt or rude (if we got what we deserved we wouldnt be foxes) but he was also the one who gave them awed compliments when he first started playing with them. he was the one who said we can win this. he was the one who shut kevin up when he started to be negative.

he was easy to like. part of that was intentional on his part--not that he was intentionally being likeable, but he was trying to portray himself to be less antagonistic than he really is. he tells us quite explicitly that he is portraying 'neil' to be meeker than his natural instincts, so he hangs out with the upperclassmen and is mostly at least neutral in terms of social hangouts and when it comes to exy he is extremely positive. and despite his occasional snaps at the upperclassmen, he actually rarely lashes out when its not deserved. his temper is reserved for riko and people who support him. kevin and andrew lash out at the upperclassmen in their own ways, and avoid them in many other circumstances, for reasons that are often obscure without neils insider knowledge. it isnt morally wrong to like someone who is easier to be around.

'why are they nicer to neil' because neil was nicer to them. thats how human interaction works. doesnt mean andrew and kevin didnt deserve help--but the person to provide that was the person who made a commitment to do it, not the people who just happened to be--effectively--their coworkers.

to sum up: everyone deserves human decency from everyone, but not everyone deserves friendship from everyone.

i guess--i dont want to get too antagonistic about this myself, because i actually doubt that many people have super simplistic views on this topic, theres just the occasional oversimplified post that gains a bit of traction. but i do think theres also a very fascinating tendency for people to try and make aftg into a neat didactic story about reaching out to people to understand them because neil reached out to andrew and it worked (and arguably saved both of them). but aftg isnt didactic. its not a prescription for how to behave. its made up. in real life, if i met andrew and it wasnt my job to help him, i would avoid him like the plague. sorry. i love him as a fictional character and i love him because i know his story but holy fuck i would not spend a minute in his company if i didnt have to.

friendship isnt social work. emotions arent activism. the upperclassmen didnt owe andrew and kevin their sympathy or their time just because they were traumatized. you cant control peoples emotional reactions to how they are treated. kevin and andrew treated them badly. neil largely didnt. thems, as they say, the breaks.

I am a very heavy multi-shipper when it comes to characters I like.

Hi uhh i have a question i was scrolling at ao3 and i keep seeing pompous pep fiction a lot but i thought it was illegal because there is at least 20 year age gap im getting confused

AO3 is a creative writing/fanfiction archive that allows anything that's legal under US creative writing law. There are some limitations, like scripting out an episode of DP would not be allowed because that's copyright infringement, and posting something disguised as a fic that's not actually one (say, posting your headcanons list or your grandma's cookie recipe) isn't allowed because that's not a transformative work. But otherwise, people are allowed to post any fictional content that they so wish so long as it's tagged properly.

The tags are an awesome feature of the site and are why many people, myself included, choose to use AO3 as their main fanfiction domain. It allows you to opt in or opt out of any tag that you do or don't want to see. For example, I read/write a ton of gore, so I often filter in tags like "Dissection" (using the sidebar) so I can only see those types of fics. But there are tons of people who get squicked out by gore/dissection, so they might prefer to filter those tags out. Maybe they just wanna read a good smut fic, so they'd filter in that tag, while for me, I'm not so interested in that content, so I almost always filter it out before I browse.

I know this seems a bit long winded of me, but what I'm trying to get at is that because fanfiction is fictional, that means that ships and tags that you or I might argue are morally gray or even morally unethical are totally allowed on the site (aka no real children were harmed in the making of said fic, so not illegal). This includes Pompous Pep, which is Danny/Vlad. And if you don't want to see that, as many people probably don't, then the site makes it extremely easy to filter that stuff out! Woo!

The DP Phandom is a really really old phandom and we've had a history of "true vs anti" ship wars back in the 00's, which while a bit different than the kinds of shipping wars you see in other fandoms today, they still happened and were incredibly destructive within our spaces. People were fighting, there was lots of bullying, angry cliques, and overall moral policing "you can't sit with us" behavior to people who frankly didn't deserve it. There's not a lot of creatives left from that era, and the ones that did come back don't have a lot of positive things to say about it.

So yeah, maybe some people on AO3 write things that might squick you out, but from experience we've found it to be far more beneficial to just do our own things. Write the content you wanna write, read the content you wanna read, interact with the people you wanna interact with, and block/mute/filter out/whatever the rest. It's honestly not worth your mental health or sanity to try to police fics/art in here. We're too old, most of us got jobs, bills to pay, maybe even kids to feed, and it's honestly not worth our time. Besides, it's much more fun to participate in phandom events and nerd out with other creatives about silly AUs and tropes and geek out over art styles and colors than it is to worry about that stuff!

promise im not trying to start discourse or anything, im just very curious for you to elaborate on that because i find it fascinating. how exactly do you see the way taylor approaches love, and how is it different from the way you do? and can you elaborate on why you don't find her songs romantic in light of that?

the reason im curious is because ive always felt that some of her songs describing situations i think she finds very romantic, always give me mild ick (namely "the other side of the door," i find the idea of begging for someone back who cheated on you and admitting you "need them" kinda icky, but i think she finds it romantic in a way), so its interesting to me your tags kinda echoed that feeling and im curious for you to elaborate

well tldr you know how i am a ~touch grass~ nondramatic blogger? i am that way in my relationships too fjkadsl. and i don't think it's a hot take to say taylor isn't like that. she wants to be a lil melodramatic and romantic and passionate and out of control--she described wanting that (and thinking love should make you go crazy) for a long time. and i like passion and intimacy but i do NOT like feeling out of control and the times i allowed it were bad for me.

BUT!!! the really great thing about taylor's view of love is that we have seen it evolve and grow over time. she's addressed a lot of these things herself, because she's tried to unlearn a lot of behaviors that were hurting her! the archer, and much of lover in particular, is so stunning (to me) for that reason--she goes through her mentality of wanting conflict, going for the jugular, running away when things got hard or scary, icing out her partner, and basically begs him to help her through it. she said in so many ways, "don't let me let you go because i am my own worst enemy and i want to learn to be a good partner, not someone who cuts and runs." ie, she learned that cruelty works in movies, but life isn't a movie, life is about support and having healthy conflict so you can grow together. significantly different from "if this was a movie, you'd be here by now." i think she's been really clear about putting the work in and i love that and i will acknowledge that forever because it is hard to change, and she doesn't get enough credit for it within the fandom.

and this is completely normal/expected when you look at the maturity and growth of a high schooler to a 33-year-old woman. you live and you learn! it's really fascinating to see taylor do that in front of us, and i feel lucky she shares that with us.

but in general think taylor is also really driven by proving people wrong, and romanticizes her struggles more than i do--it is what makes her such a hard worker and beautiful artist and so growth-oriented. i'm not like that at all LMAO. like, i grow but i am just... different in my approach. and that's neither good nor bad for either of us.

So, I'm running this account as a Nico di Angelo rp/slice of life account (If you want to do a rp, submit a question in the "Ask Me Anything" blue button at the top of the blog). For people who don't know, Nico di Angelo is a book character from the Percy Jackson book series (who had his own book (The Sun and The Star)) and is my favorite character in the whole series (Leo and Will fighting for second, and Mrs. O'leary, Tyson, and Ella having a place in my heart for First and a half place, then Hazel, then Percy and Annabeth in fourth place). But anyways, I like writing and poetry with occasional side of photography, I also LOVE art (and fanart) and am writing my own story about my own characters inspired by the Percy Jackson series and Steven Universe show. I gave a rough draft of the first few chapters of it to my friends in middle school and they absolutely loved it, so I might upload occasional anecdotes of rough drafts I have. That or the occasional character analysis of my characters.

And this is why I stay far away from the GA/EL tags. Whilst I have personally not seen these responses (therefore don’t know how bad they are) I can imagine what they’re like with a lot of “elriels are delusional!” “Elriels have low reading comprehension!” Etc etc.

Its been happening both ways, unfortunately. Many elriels are also receiving GA/EL posts and I find it so tempting to reply and disprove them however im just deleting the asks. Whoever is doing this as you mentioned, want attention and drama from the online, fictional ship wars as they must be attention-starved & bored in their own life. It’s pathetic & annoying, in my short time here I’ve replied to like two trolls - but only 1 was a copy paste. Honestly, I’d suggest to be mature, ignore & delete these asks - they’re not actually interested in the reply. Regardless, GA/EL stans should also be deleting the asks, the posts are being sent without consent - they know that. Them replying to the asks whilst dragging down the elriels that are making them - are only causing more negativity & toxicity in the fandom (they say elriels are the toxic ones but this proves they’re equally as toxic) which 4 years later, shouldn’t we all be trying to squash?

Its just childish behaviour. Delete the asks and don’t give the anon the attention they badly want, its not that hard and if you really want to share your response- make your own seperate post. Honestly, they’re making the fandom a place where you can’t even share your thoughts in peace anymore which sucks. Elriels should be able to share their opinions without any backlash from the other side. Same goes for the antis too though I personally have not seen any elriels bash GA/EL over these asks.

Regardless, whilst it’s disheartening to see antis not being able to rise above & be respectful enough to not answer the asks, I guess there’s not much we can do but stick to our tags and not care about what they say. Hopefully whoever is doing this gets bored soon and leaves us all alone.

hellow tumblr user sheets dash of dash your dash own. i just finished reading voir dire by bonesandthebees (which RULES btw, dsmp fic w kinda heavy topics but highly highly recommend) which is formatted like a court epistolary with testimonies and examinations and stuff, and im looking for reccs of more unconventionally formatted fics! fics made up of transcripts, documents, dictated recordings, etc. etc. anything that isn’t plain text (or mainly isn’t plain text, im not totally anti prose). any fandom, im just interested in the cool ways people mess w medium ! thank you great spreadsheeter

Alright, so I don't have many for this- it's why I took a bit to respond (sorry!) There's 5 fics, which is half of what i usually aim for, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

generally, I find that a lot of The Magnus Archives fics are formatted like a transcript to link to the cannon podcast medium, or you can use the 'chat fic' tag when searching in ao3, but that doesn't really help for other, more interesting, forms. So here's what I was able to scrounge together:

Mission: Amity Park by SeeEmRunning G, Gen, Completed, 7,069 words, DC & Danny Phantom

"Amity Park is under siege by the Ghost Investigation Ward. The Justice League mounts a rescue mission. A story told through transcripts, blog posts, internet comments, and a mission report."

So this one is probably the most like what you are looking for, it's formatted like a sequence of blog posts and mission reports and audio transcripts. It's centered around the GIW (government ghost hunters) putting Amity Park (haunted town) under siege. The Justice league investigates. You don't need to have too deep of an understanding for either media to read the fic, but knowing names and a surface level google would probably help

Eye, Me, Myself by arealsword T, Multi, Completed, 7,066 words, The Magnus Archives & Sanders Sides

So this fic is so much fun to read, like beyond the actual words on the screen. It's formatted like a podcast transcript, but plays around a lot with the meta text and action tags as part of the plot of the fic. It is not going to be fully understandable if you don't have comprehensive understanding of Sanders Sides as part of the fic is Thomas switching from side to side as he speaks with no clear indication of who exactly is speaking, so you often end up realizing that a different side is speaking now and scrolling up to try to find where exactly the switch happened. It's really good and exactly what you're looking for in terms of using the specific formatting to play into what the characters are doing that couldn't be done any other way- you really need to know about the sanders sides to get it though- I'd recommend the youtube series anyway though, it's not too many cannon episodes and they're really fun, you'd only need to watch like any 2-3 episodes to get a good enough understanding of each side to get the fic, they're really well characterised in cannon so getting their unique speech patters isn't hard.

This series is amazing!! one of my favourites for sure. It's a collection of statements with a central plot running through it (like the magnus archives) all characters involved are the characters in Hermitcraft, 3rd Life and some from Empires and other related SMPs (no RPF, I will never rec RPF- I don't read that) it's really well done and formatted like audio transcripts.

So I've actually already rec'd this (post), the whole things is formatted like twitter posts with a few video transcripts interspersed throughout. It's mostly Good omens & lucifer, with some small Doctor who parts- but I've never watched it and I was able to read the fic just fine

Tim first noticed Them when he was three years old. It was his very first time on stage, after all, so he could be excused from not noticing Them before. But he played his part. He followed his script, all while looking straight at the camera. AKA Tim knows he's just a character in a comic book. He wishes They treated him as human.

So this one is just prose, but I included it because the main part is the Tim Drake can "see" the reader/audience, and the way it is written is really unique and fits the plot really well- the ending gives me chills every time

Hey anon! Thanks for asking- this is a super great question! Social rules on tumblr tend to differ from in-person relationships, so it absolutely can be daunting at first.

Honestly, the key is interaction. Nobody's ever going to know you want to be friends if you never interact! If sending an ask to a stranger seems scary, that's completely okay!! Even starting with something as simple as liking and/or reblogging someone's posts can help build that sense of familiarity. Eventually, that will build to a sense of safety in trying to strike a conversation. Even that could be something as little as responding to someone's tags.

If what you're struggling with is finding people, I'd recommend searching for blogs with common interests. Fandoms are usually my go-to, but if that's not really your speed, you could also try finding people with a similar hobby or interest (like ocean life or crochet, for example!). Don't be afraid to try following mutual-in-laws of those people, too :)

Make sure your own blog is inviting to others! At the minimum, put a name you'd like to be called and pronouns you'd like to use in your description or a pinned post. That way, even if you're not the most active or talkative, people know you aren't a bot. Tumblr depends on reblogs, so make sure to reblog (and post on your own) about the things you like as well!

After that, honestly, it's just the same as any other relationship. Be kind, stop by and say hi every once in a while, share a cool post you came across. These things take time to truly grow, but the connections can last a lifetime.

Of course, this doesn't always work. Sometimes people just don't vibe, or they're not interested in making friends, or whatever. Don't feel forced to try and make connections that don't want to stick. At the same time, though, that isn't an indicator that there's nobody out here that wants to be your friend. There's sooooo many blogs on this site- I'm positive there's people out here for you, no matter who you are. That's the beautiful thing about life!

And, if you'd want, I'm always open to making new friends! Even if you just want to practice learning how to make new ones :)
