Yes!! Shostakovich is SO interesting, the stuff about symphony no.4&5 in particular (too long to share bc I'm writing this at work haha). One of my favorite pieces is his waltz no.2, which is quite popular but everyone is like 'oh how cute and fun' and I'm like NO do you not hear the knowledge this man has of life's darker side, so clearly reflected in his music??? Fear, hiding, clever subversive acts.. so many parallels with Aziraphale's time on Earth. It leaves me, once again, in awe of the production of this show.
Aziraphale vs Shostakovich
For a long time now I wanted to write something about Aziraphale's choice to listen to Shostakovich at the beginning of S2. Shostakovich is not an 18th century composer as some joke about Aziraphale being stuck in the past. He's not a romantic, sweet composer either. But a composer who wrote most of his work in the middle of 20th Century. Under the oppressive Russian regime of Stalin and more.
There's so much about...the way he lived and worked, in constant fear, that just, begs to be compared to how Aziraphale feels. I just never felt I knew enough about Shostakovich to make a post about him and do it justice. I still don't. But. I was listening to this classical music and history course today - not focused on Symphony No. 5 (1937) that Aziraphale was listening to, but Symphony No. 13 (1962) - written in the brief 'Thaw' of Khrushchev, who condemned Stalin's just ended, rule of terror. The professor (Robert Greene - all his courses are amazing btw) nails it when he describes how Shostakovich's career felt:
There's a lot more in the whole chapter but I was struck by how Aziraphale copes and has coped with living in fear, in terror for 6000 years (and much more, since we see him worried in Before the Beginning too). Not just for himself, but like everyone in Russia for his loved ones too.
#little things like this just add more depth to his character#one of my favorite composers#shostakovich#aziraphale#good omens

Disaster Twins Karaoke Battle (alt title: Getting Hyped for the Next Lair Games)
These sketches are old, but I couldn't let National TMNT Day pass without showing my appreciation in some way. I drew these some months ago, while listening to the song Stalemate from the Death Note musical yes, that's a thing, go check it out on loop, and forgot to post them. The song is a bop and I could so easily see the twins loving it, and loving to perform it even more. Massive theatre nerds, the both of them, no one can convince me otherwise.
(In my mind, Leo is singing Jeremy's part and Donnie is singing Jarrod's, but it's interchangeable.)
#Me doing my part to spread a lil theatre nerd DT propaganda. AND promote the work of my favorite modern composer. I always forget how Club Penguin used to be the biggest thing in my entire life. That shit was major. I will always have a heartache for it, but like many things Iâm nostalgic for itâs less that I want to go back to the past and more that I feel a need to somehow closely recreate the specific feeling it gives me in art I make in the future
#Well for one does anyone know what VSTs any of the club Penguin composers used or really anythinf about the musical process. Idk#The soundtrack was nuts probably my favorite video game soundtrack of all time#At least until they decided to make everything overproduced and orchestral and also spit out 833838 dogshit dj cadence hits

#how do you do this... he's looked fantastic before and you keep making him better and better#LOVE this piece. You made him look stunning#That stare. He's composed but he's looking for something... or someone. Maybe he's already looking into their eyes#that lock in the middle really adds to this... and I love the slightly funkier shape you went with for the hat#something about the way the puffy cravat and the collar of his coat come together with his more defined face. He came out so elegant!#and the feeling of texture on the art... nnnngnhhnhgh this pleases my brain#one of my favorites you've done and you've made so many bangers#art#friend art#Late hours for some of us so I'll be reblogging this tomorrow 8]#Thank youuuu!!

very minor brothership spoilers ahead, but i think it's a neat detail, and i haven't seen anyone else talk about it!
at a certain part of the game, it's stated that the number of minions defeated by mario and luigi is 98,303,150. that seems like a totally random number, but it's actually goroawase; a japanese play on numbers! it translates to something along the lines of "koopa-sama(bowser) is the best!"
i'm not sure whether it's a throwback to bowser's vault in bowser's inside story, or if the writers just happened to make a similar joke, but i thought it was really cool nonetheless!
#mario and luigi#m&l brothership#brothership spoilers#but like. only a little?#hot take but even though i haven't finished the game yet it might be one of my favorite entries...#i miss yoko shimomura's music but the composer for brothership worked on the pmd explorers soundtrack so i can't complain!

"Greek" for Doctor Who!
The cool mountain air whipping her hair into her eyes, Rose squinted at the words carved into the walls of the Athenian treasury, and frowned.
âDoctor, itâs all Greek to me.â
âNah, youâre just saying that because youâre not used to it yetâDelphic culture really is quite delightful, if a little pretentiousâbut maybe thatâs just ancient Greeks for youâyou know, this is also where they hold the Pythian Games, which is held in honor of Apollo supposedly killing the great beast Pythonââgreatâ is a little much, I think, it really wasnât much bigger than a German Shepherdââ
ââno, Doctorââ Rose grabbed his chin and turned his face towards the inscription ââitâs all Greek.â
The Doctor stared for a moment uncomprehendingly at the unfamiliar letters on the wall, then his eyes went wide with realization, and he yelped, âThe TARDIS!â and sprinted back down the path.
#thanks for the ask!#really fun prompt#fun fact: Iâve been here! the ruins at Delphi were some of my favorites#the inscription that Rose is looking at is a hymn to Apollo carved into the side of the Athenian treasury that is one of the oldest#recorded songs in the world with musical notation#(with an known composer)#doctor who#tenrose#tenth doctor#rose tyler
