i read that fanfic and i really don't know how i feel about it.
like on one hand it's beautiful writing, on the other hand it's iffy. kids, even adult kids, should not be expected to be anything for their parents. there are still power dynamics at play and the parent should find a peer to talk to if they're feeling unwell. they shouldn't have to tiptoe around their parent's feelings, they shouldn't have to do anything for them. i love bruce but i will always side with his kids over him, as should everyone else. he chose to adopt these kids, the kids didn't choose to be adopted by him. steph was absolutely correct and should have left with jason and damian. i have more thoughts but this is the gist of it

Actually wait i do have one point i disagree with that i think is neutral: adult children may not owe their parents special respect or consideration but they owe them the same basic respect or consideration they owe every other person they interact with. Its not “tiptoeing around their feelings” its actually just “treating them like full human beings that have feelings outside of being their parent”.
