Since I am a big nerd and really into it rn I ended up making a very long playlist for TFTGS as a series. Its ordered chronologically to the story beats so if you have read the books the songs line up to things that happen in them in order - for the people who DO know... you might just be able to match up the songs with where you are in the series...

Guidelines to submissions, etc., under the cut!

1. Not every song will be vetted! That being said, I trust that people will be respectful with their submissions. (Basic human decency criteria, lol)

2. I am allowed to decline submissions. Don't make a big deal if I decline!

3. You can submit more than once. Just please keep them graciously spaced out.

4. Keep in mind that I'm a person with a life outside of the web, and it may take some time to get to your submission! (Also, I may take a while because of other factors, but that's personal, haha.)

Submissions can be in the comments of this post or through my inbox! Standard submission formatting is 'Song - Band (link to track)', but the more detail to the submission, the better! (Example: Providing the album cover, but I think I'd prefer that submission type be for my inbox).

With inbox submissions, I also encourage adding a note that it's for this playlist, so I know where I'm supposed to be putting the suggestion. I tend to have a bad memory, so when I don't have my post as a frame of reference, I can get easily confused.

i know i said i was gonna do these for tftgs ships but uhh i have billy and salvatore on the brain so i'm gonna talk about them

for context, salvatore and billy are based on yet another horror series i like, but i'm just kinda taking them and running away with them so so fast. they're mine now, no takebacks <3

salvatore is an ex-mobster-turned-vampire who was trapped in a small, empty cell for around ten years, stripped completely of his personhood and identity. and billy is the human who broke him out and saved him, and they eventually fell in love <3

so here we go :3 answers under the cut b/c this got a little long!

Who initiated the relationship, and how did it go?

i think this was a mutual thing, but in terms of who first broached the subject it was probably salvatore, if only because billy is generally very oblivious and didn't register that he'd even been flirting with the vampire. it was a while after that before they decided to actually try anything, though, for a variety of reasons--many of them having to do with salvatore's internalized homophobia and shit he's been through in past relationships with men.

Did they have an official first date? If so, what was it like?

okay this is something i have so many thoughts about so buckle the fuck up. their first official date was something billy planned for weeks and weeks, because he wanted to sweep sal off his feet in a way no one ever had before. and salvatore bitched the whole time, but he was really touched at the same time.

the date started with a visit to a drive-in movie theater, with the two cuddling in billy's car, holding hands in the dark and watching a horror movie (not sure which one off the top of my head haha!). billy thought a horror movie would be a fun choice, because he very much wanted the cliche of like... picking something scary so your partner huddles with you and you can protect them. this backfired lmao--billy was the one who was scared.

after the movie, they went to a small, out-of-the-way diner and had dinner (salvatore can't taste human food anymore, but he still indulges from time to time, and he likes to make sure billy has enough to eat).

and finally, they drove out to a cliff and sat on the hood of billy's car to look at the stars for a while and just. hang out. at some point, i imagine they danced a little to some music billy had on CD's in his car, but mostly they just vibed until billy fell asleep in salvatore's arms.

What was their first kiss like?

their first kiss happened before their first official date, when salvatore was trying to teach billy how to swing dance. it wasn't going well--billy is horribly uncoordinated--and salvatore was laughing and teasing him but still very patiently showing him the steps. and eventually salvatore was so struck by how *cute* billy was, trying his best, that he surged up on his toes and pecked him on the lips. it took them both a second to realize what happened, and they both got so so flustered hehe <3

Were they each other’s first anything (kiss, relationship, etc.)?

i think salvatore is billy's first relationship with another man, but aside from that, nope! they both dated before meeting each other, to some degree. salvatore had two previous partners before billy, and billy had a few girlfriends before salvatore.

What’s their height difference? Age difference?

billy is about 5'11" (actually around 179 cm) and, when he meets salvatore, 24 years old. salvatore, meanwhile, is 5'6" (167 cm) and 48 years old when he meets billy (though he was turned into a vampire when he was 38, so he's forever physically in his late 30s). so that's a height difference of 5 inches (about 12 cm) and an age difference of 24 years. don't worry about it <3

What’s their relationship with each other’s families?

billy will never get to meet any of salvatore's family, and that's probably for the best. sal was pretty estranged from his family even before he was turned, and they didn't exactly end on good terms. and by the time he meets billy, his family has moved on and forgotten him entirely.

salvatore, meanwhile, has met some of billy's family! billy is unfortunately a bit estranged from his family as well, but he's still decently close with his sister kate. she's met salvatore and the two get along pretty well! and yes kate teases the shit out of her brother for being into older men (though she doesn't quite know *how* much older salvatore is, nor that he's a vampire).

Who takes the lead in social situations?

it really depends! sal is definitely more confident overall, but he also spent ten years with almost no socialization, so it's a miracle he's still capable of holding his own in a conversation. so, for the most part, billy takes the lead to make sure salvatore doesn't get too overwhelmed.

Who gets jealous easier?

definitely salvatore!! he's pretty insecure in a lot of ways and struggles to fully accept that billy isn't going anywhere. however, he gets better about it with time as he comes to understand that billy isn't going to ditch him.

not to say that billy doesn't have his moments, though, and billy can be downright *vicious* on the rare occasions that he's actually jealous. salvatore thinks it's cute.

Who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear?

they both do!! i think salvatore is more likely to, though, because he thinks it's so cute that billy gets flustered so easily. the only thing stopping him from doing it more often is the height difference.

favourite movie: the first conjuring movie from 2013! it's a huge comfort movie for me and i've seen it so many times it doesn't scare me in the slightest anymore. it does, however, make me laugh. (ask me about my favorite line delivery in that movie if you want an unhinged rant about brad being the best character.)

favourite series: i suppose the unsleeping city? or tales from the gas station b/c. yeah, but that's not a tv series. another one that's definitely up there is one punch man, and if you've known me long enough to remember my opm blog uhhh i'll go back to it someday maybe. a lot of my favorite series aren't shows so asdfjkl;

last song: "devil's train" by the lab rats!

last series: i guess the series i caught up on most recently was gamechanger?? that's a gameshow, though, and not a story-based show. maybe diminished. idk, i don't actually watch a lot of shows per se.

last movie: the first conjuring movie, once again. i remember watching it last thursday and going "BRAD MY BELOVED" an unreasonable amount of times. no copaganda type show is more effective to me than officer brad hamilton in this movie. (for legal reasons this is a joke)

currently reading: still making my way through tftgs volume 3 at a goddamn snail's pace, but i found out another online horror series i like is getting a book adaptation soon, so THAT'S something i'm excited to read.

currently watching: i've been working on rewatching the unsleeping city season 1, but it's a bit slowgoing haha! i keep putting it on in the background while i work and then getting distracted.

currently working on: i actually got a huge burst of motivation the other day for one of my original writing projects so that's *mainly* what i've been working on these past few days. i finally have a proper outline and designs for the characters!! love my fucked up post-apocalyptic road trip gang <3

hopping in because this is on my dash ajjdkd but yesss i fucking love making wip playlists!! perhaps a little too much, one might say! that's ok tho it's a blast <3 a bunch of my wips even have multiple playlists jakskdjd for example, cudaas has four playlists, a modern ghost story has four playlists, magic apocalyptica has four playlists, bleeding over eden has two playlists... yeah <3

i also have like 13 tftgs playlists now but that's a different matter entirely

anyway for me i make wip playlists to figure out the vibes of a story and brainstorm!! a very important part of my process is sitting and listening to music while vividly imagining my blorbos. it's how i get many important plot points, character backstories... music is so important to me fr. however, i don't usually listen to music while i write--tunes are for vibes and brainstorming.

i don't curate them very carefully and i kinda just add songs as i go--essentially if it vibes with what i'm thinking it goes in the playlist!

Yo Chai, I was thinking about cosplaying Jack on tiktok and basically no one I know is into tftgs, can you think of any audios that would be good for him? I have a couple but nowhere near what I'd like lol

Okay so I have so many options for you bc I've got a messy playlist dedicated to every song that reminds me of TFTGS, but I'm gonna spare you my infodumping and try to limit myself to only explaining why these three songs might fit:

First note, it really depends on what aspect of Jack you wanna show off; Wanna portray him in an angsty way? I think Destroyed By Hippie Powers by Cars Seat Headrest would fit great! Showing off Jack before his (mids)diagnosis as content and (sort of) happy, and then cutting to the tired, apathetic, go-with-the-flow version of him we know so well. 

(What happened to that chubby little kid who smiled so much and loved The Beach Boys? What happened is I killed that fucker and I took his name and I got new glasses)

Or do you wanna show off how Jack as a character gets manipulated constantly? (I do, LOL) In that case, you could go with Fool by Djo, with Jack acting generally confused and anxious as he spirals into madness through the chorus (maybe with text of a bunch of gaslighting quotes from Vol. 3 surrounding him?). 

([...] I'm a jester and I'm yours Call me your (look into my eyes and baby, whisper) fool I will be your fool (I'll be your fool) I'll perform for you (perform for you) Just tell me what to do (do) I always felt so foolish anyway)

Or lastly, you could go with Dark Red by Steve Lacy and pair it with Jack acting out… well, there’s a ton of instances where Jack’s got a bad feeling about something and ends up being right about it. But my favorite one to imagine with this song is the cooler scene in Volume 1, where Tony’s trying to convince Jack to get into the cooler and flashes him the gun in his waistband. (actually, this is something I’ve been wanting to draw out, too :3)

How would you describe your writing process?

I was very tempted to reply to this with a joke, but I want to give a genuine answer. Also tumblr asks won't let me share my meme here.

Anyway, my writing process is very sporadic and scattered. I have a lot of trouble focusing on one thing at a time and so unless I have a deadline, self-imposed or otherwise, I tend to move at a snail's pace haha. Sometimes, though, when the time is right and I get into a good headspace, I can produce a lot of writing at once!!! Those are the good days.

When I write, I don't really like to listen to music that much honestly--I prefer something long that I can get lost in and zone out to, like a long horror narration or a movie I've seen a thousand times. When I write plans for A Modern Ghost Story, I like to put The Conjuring on in the background, for example! And when I work on my ""secret WIP"" I like to listen to TFTGS or Lonely Broadcast Station!
