The text comes in while Eddie's on his lunch break, and for a second he just blinks at the request from his boyfriend. It takes him by surprise because for one thing, Steve is supposed to be spending time with Robin right now, and for another thing, this is incredibly out of left field.

They've only been together four months, and while he knows that Steve wants to have kids - was told as much on their first date, that if Eddie doesn't then it's best to not even try for date number two - they haven't really talked about the details of it.

Plus, with Steve still in college and Eddie still living in a place with two other guys while he saves up, the logistics aren't really in place for them to even try for a baby right now.

He sends back a short No because he doesn't really have time to dig into this - his break is almost over and he's not done eating yet - but before he can even set his phone down he gets another message.

oh okay

Eddie goes still because he can hear this message, he knows the exact sound of that soft, reserved oh Steve gives when he's trying to pretend like he's not disappointed.

And suddenly Eddie is terrified.

This is the best relationship he's ever had; they're not even six months in but Eddie's pretty sure Steve is it for him. Would denying this be enough to make Steve leave him?

Fuck, what if he thinks Eddie lied and doesn't actually want kids? That he's just stringing Steve along to keep him around?

He scrambles to respond, his lunch forgotten in his haste to fix this.

Wait but dont ask another guy ill do it

There's a moment of silence where Eddie is actively dreading whatever Steve might say in response, though it's quelled when he gets three messages in quick succession.

Fuck, how is Eddie supposed to think about anything else for the rest of the day?

His alarm goes off, signalling the end of his break, and he sends off one more text before heading back out into the shop.

It's Mumbo who approaches Doc. His suit is askew, and he's loosened his tie, which is generally a very bad sign. Mumbo, for all he's a very poorly put-together person, normally leaves his clothes well put-together unless things have somehow gone very wrong indeed.

"Tell me, Doc," Mumbo says. "After the whole Easter Egg thing that I heard about--"

"I was very normal, comparatively!" Doc protests. "I was very, very normal!"

Mumbo pauses. "You know, I left town, so I can't dispute that."

Doc nods vigorously. "You can't dispute it at all. And, eh, Ren, if you're going to yell about him, he didn't have any eggs. He was briefly False's pet dog, though. I think it, eh, traumatized him."

Mumbo looks faintly dizzy. "Right. That. How did we solve that again?"

"That was all Cleo and Jevin," Doc says. "I know Cub has some of the surviving remnants in his museum. Why do you ask? Oh no, don't tell me you secretly still have one of the babies! What if it's lost and alone?"

"No, no, nothing like that! It's just that you dropped several thousand dragon eggs on Grian's base, is all."

Doc smirks. "A cunning revenge--"

"You covered Grian's base. In eggs," Mumbo says, very slowly, as though Doc might be particularly stupid. Doc stares back.

"Yeah. It's karmic revenge for the chickens," Doc says back, equally slowly.

"Doc I wasn't there but remind me how Grian reacted last time to the eggs," Mumbo says.

Doc thinks about it for a moment.

Doc's eyes widen.

"Mumbo, please tell me Grian is not--"

"The good news is that I think the server would crash if they hatched," Mumbo says mildly. "The bad news is that I'm his neighbor, and I very much want to kill you now."

"You're joking," Doc says, struck suddenly with the vision of what it would be like to live next to a Grian who is attempting to get broody over thousands of dragon eggs at once.

"Die," Mumbo says, and pulls out an end crystal. Doc doesn't even move. He deserves this one.

had a weird dream that atla canon changed and hakoda disappeared before sokka was born but kaya was forced into another marriage while pregnant and the guy was. literally the worst. and so sokka grew up thinking this dude was his dad and he like actively hated him. kaya still died during a raid but sokka was alone, no katara :( so he was an extremely angry boy who hated his “dad” but somehow (can’t remember if it was explained even) found out he wasn’t actually his dad and that everything got messed up and in order to fix it he had to leave and go on some big journey to find some edge of the world type shit to reverse everything the way it was, but he had to find hakoda first bc he had to jump with him over the edge to go back or it wouldn’t work

Most Sherlock Holmes adaptations I've seen tend to place their Final Problem towards the mid point of the series (or even a bit earlier) - it's also in my opinion the best way of going about it, so you have time enough for the characters to adjust after the reunion but they know each other well enough for the events of Fina to be devastating.

Sherlock & Co is done with 20 of the adventures. How many are there? Fifty-something? Almost sixty? Let's say we'll be entering mid-point territory after the 25th story.

So let's pretend for a moment that we have 5 more stories until The Final Problem. Ok.

Estimating an adventure at 3 episodes each, that would mean little over 3 months - maybe 3 and a half? Starting, of course, from the end of Sign of Four, which will be somewhere in December.

So let's say 3, maybe 4 months into 2025. That would be, what? Late march, early april?

John having to tell the listeners that Sherlock is dead, in early april?

Quick calendar searck reveals what I was praying it would - the 1st of april will be on a Tuesday next year.
