Doctor Who season 4 is so delightful because you can tell that The Doctor, on occasion, straight up forgets that he's sad and burned because he's busy being in a sci-fi buddy comedy. And then something will remind him and he'll be like oh! I'm sad and burdened! And Donnas almost always there to be like 'hi sad and burdened. I'm Donna' and he has a completely proportional reaction like 'i would die a thousand deaths for you'.

I finished this 3+ months ago but I felt… weird posting about it and going “Hey guys, read my fic!” because. It's about suicidal thoughts and what could be considered an attempt. And, even as I was writing it, I felt very bad about what I put Sherlock through (or rather, what I had him think). But also I felt like I Had To write it.

Now I'm very proud of how it turned out, it's my Magnum Opus I think, but I still feel kinda weird “advertising” it, for lack of a better word.

But I did say I'd do this once/if it reaches 1000 hits, so. :]

Thinking about how Sherlock & Co has constant imagery of John falling and nearly drowning, both metaphorically and literally, and how everytime Sherlock is there to save him in the nick of time.

Like at the start John is metaphorically falling into depression and drowning under the weight of his low self esteem and then he meets Sherlock who lifts him up and out of the depths of his self-flagellation.

You have John falling into water or down shafts and Sherlock always arriving at the last moment to reach out and grab John.

And then I'm thinking about how Sherlock is going to fall. He's going to fall into some body of water and John won't reach him in time (and it will be by design).

And John will have to live with the guilt of all those times Sherlock saved him and he couldn't do the same the one time Sherlock needed him.

An ending isn’t just where the story stops, it’s why it mattered. A good ending lingers. It makes the reader sit there for a second, staring at the last sentence, feeling like they’ve lost something. It should echo back to the beginning, but everything’s different now. If your ending doesn’t hit like a punch to the gut or a slow exhale, it’s not done yet.
