Tutorial: How to Embed Gifs (and get the one you actually want from the set)
There have probably been posts about this before, but since reposting is still a (deeply unfortunate) thing, I figured I'd give this a shot in case it's not a well known trick.
The tumblr Gif tool will allow you to embed gifs directly into your post without saving and re-uploading (reposting) someone else's work.
When you're building your post, just use the yellow GIF icon in the post builder:
You can search here by tag or keyword. If you happen to know one of the tags used on the original post you're looking for, that can narrow things down:
To narrow down to a SPECIFIC post, you can also paste the URL into the search field. This will pull up the very first gif in that set:
If you select that gif, it will pop into your post with a credit and link back to the OP (specifically back to the OPs post with that gif in it):
This is a properly attributed gif embed. The credit on the bottom right points back to the original post:*
Often, the first gif is not actually the one you want to embed, but there is a way to swap the image out for the one you want without losing the source attribution.
*It's helpful to put some reference text near your initial embed so you're able to swap the right image out later on. For this post, I'm going to use that short block right above the embedded gif as a reference.
In another tab/window, go to the OPs post and find the actual gif you want to embed from their set. Right click the image and Copy Image Address:
Once you have the URL copied, go back to your post and scroll to the gear icon at the top:
Open that menu and in the dropdown, where it says Text Editor, swap Rich Text to HTML:
Your post will turn into a bunch of code once you do this. Don't worry, we will change it back.
For this post, I put reference text above that first embedded gif so I could easily find the URLs I need once it becomes HTML. This is super helpful if you're embedding more than one gif. The reference text is highlighted below. This indicated the block that my currently embedded gif lives in:
In order to swap the first gif out for one that's later in the set, you just need to replace the SRC gifv and SRCSET gifv URLs with the image address you copied:
Once you've pasted the image address into these spots, you can go back to the gear icon and switch the Text Editor back to Rich Text:
Your post should return to it's previous, glorious state, but instead of the first gif embedded, you should now see the one you actually want from the set. The credit and source attribution back to the OPs post should remain intact on the bottom right:
This might seem super complicated at first, but it's pretty straightforward once you've tried it, and also a lot less frustrating for gif makers to see this than seeing our stuff just get reposted.
Anyway... If you found the gifs outside of tumblr or you didn't make them yourself, don't save and re-upload (aka. repost) them to tumblr, 'cause someone probably stole them from here to begin with and that's not cool. Search the tags and find the ones you want. Reblog from gif makers. If you want to embed a single gif from a set, try to do it this way, or minimally, credit the person you took it from.

Migrating Off Evernote
Evernote, a web-based notes app, recently introduced super-restrictive controls on free accounts, after laying off a number of staff and introducing AI features, all of which is causing a lot of people to migrate off the platform. I haven't extensively researched alternative sites, so I can't offer a full resource there (readers, feel free to drop your alternative sites in notes or reblogs), but because I have access to OneNote both in my professional and personal life, I decided to migrate my Evernote there.
I use them for very different things -- Evernote I use exclusively as a personal fanfic archive, because it stores fics I want to save privately both as full-text files and as links. OneNote I have traditionally used for professional purposes, mainly for taking meeting notes and storing information I need (excel formulas, how-tos for things I don't do often in our database, etc). But while Evernote had some nicer features it was essentially a OneNote clone, and OneNote has a webclipper, so I've created an account with OneNote specifically to store my old Evernote archive and any incoming fanfic I want to archive in future.
Microsoft discontinued the tool that it offered for migrating Evernote to OneNote directly, but research turned up a reliable and so-far trustworthy independent tool that I wanted to share. You export all your Evernote notebooks as ENEX files, then download the tool and unzip it, open the exe file, and import the ENEX one by one on a computer where you already have the desktop version of OneNote installed. I had no problem with the process, although some folks with older systems might.
I suspect I might need to do some cleanup post-import but some of that is down to how Evernote fucked around with tags a while ago, and so far looking through my notes it appears to have imported formatting, links, art, and other various aspects of each clipped note without a problem. I also suspect that Evernote will not eternally allow free users to export their notebooks so if nothing else I'd back up your notebooks to ENEX or HTML files sooner rather than later.
I know the number of people who were using Free Evernote and have access to OneNote is probably pretty small, but if I found it useful I thought others might too.

"how do I keep my art from being scraped for AI from now on?"
if you post images online, there's no 100% guaranteed way to prevent this, and you can probably assume that there's no need to remove/edit existing content. you might contest this as a matter of data privacy and workers' rights, but you might also be looking for smaller, more immediate actions to take.
...so I made this list! I can't vouch for the effectiveness of all of these, but I wanted to compile as many options as possible so you can decide what's best for you.
Discouraging data scraping and "opting out"
robots.txt - This is a file placed in a website's home directory to "ask" web crawlers not to access certain parts of a site. If you have your own website, you can edit this yourself, or you can check which crawlers a site disallows by adding /robots.txt at the end of the URL. This article has instructions for blocking some bots that scrape data for AI.
HTML metadata - DeviantArt (i know) has proposed the "noai" and "noimageai" meta tags for opting images out of machine learning datasets, while Mojeek proposed "noml". To use all three, you'd put the following in your webpages' headers:
<meta name="robots" content="noai, noimageai, noml">
Have I Been Trained? - A tool by Spawning to search for images in the LAION-5B and LAION-400M datasets and opt your images and web domain out of future model training. Spawning claims that Stability AI and Hugging Face have agreed to respect these opt-outs. Try searching for usernames!
Kudurru - A tool by Spawning (currently a Wordpress plugin) in closed beta that purportedly blocks/redirects AI scrapers from your website. I don't know much about how this one works.
ai.txt - Similar to robots.txt. A new type of permissions file for AI training proposed by Spawning.
ArtShield Watermarker - Web-based tool to add Stable Diffusion's "invisible watermark" to images, which may cause an image to be recognized as AI-generated and excluded from data scraping and/or model training. Source available on GitHub. Doesn't seem to have updated/posted on social media since last year.
Image processing... things
these are popular now, but there seems to be some confusion regarding the goal of these tools; these aren't meant to "kill" AI art, and they won't affect existing models. they won't magically guarantee full protection, so you probably shouldn't loudly announce that you're using them to try to bait AI users into responding
Glaze - UChicago's tool to add "adversarial noise" to art to disrupt style mimicry. Devs recommend glazing pictures last. Runs on Windows and Mac (Nvidia GPU required)
WebGlaze - Free browser-based Glaze service for those who can't run Glaze locally. Request an invite by following their instructions.
Mist - Another adversarial noise tool, by Psyker Group. Runs on Windows and Linux (Nvidia GPU required) or on web with a Google Colab Notebook.
Nightshade - UChicago's tool to distort AI's recognition of features and "poison" datasets, with the goal of making it inconvenient to use images scraped without consent. The guide recommends that you do not disclose whether your art is nightshaded. Nightshade chooses a tag that's relevant to your image. You should use this word in the image's caption/alt text when you post the image online. This means the alt text will accurately describe what's in the image-- there is no reason to ever write false/mismatched alt text!!! Runs on Windows and Mac (Nvidia GPU required)
Sanative AI - Web-based "anti-AI watermark"-- maybe comparable to Glaze and Mist. I can't find much about this one except that they won a "Responsible AI Challenge" hosted by Mozilla last year.
Just Add A Regular Watermark - It doesn't take a lot of processing power to add a watermark, so why not? Try adding complexities like warping, changes in color/opacity, and blurring to make it more annoying for an AI (or human) to remove. You could even try testing your watermark against an AI watermark remover. (the privacy policy claims that they don't keep or otherwise use your images, but use your own judgment)
given that energy consumption was the focus of some AI art criticism, I'm not sure if the benefits of these GPU-intensive tools outweigh the cost, and I'd like to know more about that. in any case, I thought that people writing alt text/image descriptions more often would've been a neat side effect of Nightshade being used, so I hope to see more of that in the future, at least!

How To Sign Up To This Gift Exchange
This exchange does signups on Ao3, to help with matching! (Last year it took us 8 days to do it by hand and that's just not sustainable).
Once you are on Ao3, there are two sections, one for your requests (stuff you’re telling people (and the machine) would be a good gift for you), and one for your offers (stuff you’re telling the machine that you can make as a gift for other people). Here’s how you fill them out.
Requests
First you go to the collection that you want. The all-ages one is here, and if you are opting into NSFW (and are over 18), you can go to the 18+ collection! In the sidebar on the left-hand side of the page there is a button for sign-up form, you can press to be taken to the sign-up form.
That brings you to the first page, which looks like this.
Lots of buttons, but don't worry, it's pretty simple once you get the underlying logic!
Let's say I start with 3rd Life. I know I want to opt into pearl gifts, shadowrot, and platonic desert duo. What will that look like?
So I selected the fandom I wanted (3rd Life) and what types of gifts that I was open to. And then I selected the relationships that I'd like as a gift! I could match on any one of these, my gifter might have offered only one relationship in this fandom— but we match on one, so they know which relationship to focus on! And each of those tags is formatted a little differently— the desert duo one the names are connected with a & (so that means i'll get something platonic), the shadowrot one the names are connected with / (so that means I'll get something shippy if my gifter chooses to write that relationship), and the pearl tag is Solo, so that means I could get anything as long as pearl is still the focus! So I have to specify later if I'm okay with shipping or not, or any relationships I don't want.
Additional tags is telling people what kind of holidays I'm open to in my gift— not everybody celebrates the same holidays! For this one I don't want any holidays, so I selected no holidays. And then archive warnings is telling people if I'm okay with archive warnings in my gift— because it's 3rd life I'm okay with graphic depictions of violence, or I'm also okay with no archive warnings in my gift at all! Note that if you select archive warnings that just means you're opting into them as an option, not that your recipient HAS to give them to you. And then we get down to the free text box, where I give my gifter a little more idea of how to make a gift that I'd like. We start with my tumblr, because my gifter has to know how to give me my gift on tumblr eventually! And then a list of likes, stuff to give my gifter some ideas. Mods ask that you include at least a couple likes, and/or some prompts, or link a letter in that letter text box.
What's a letter? Ao3 has a text limit of 5 thousand characters in that box, and sometimes people exceed it because they have detailed prompts— especially if they're requesting lots of different ships as options! You also can't do any formatting unless you code it in HTML. So, if you are running out of space on Ao3, you can write the information for your gifter offsite, on Dreamwidth or Google Docs or a tumblr post! Here is an example from another exchange of what a letter can look like.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are linking a google doc letter, make sure that you are not using an account that has your real name in it. Make a fandom email for it, or host the letter somewhere like tumblr or dreamwidth, where your real identity will not be connected to your fandom identity. And if you link a tumblr, don't change your blog URL or the letter will disappear for people!
Anyways, I'm not doing a letter cause I'm just doing a quick and dirty signup, so I just did some likes and my DNW! You can also add specific prompts if you want (and it's nice for your gifter if you do) but it's not required!
What is a DNW? DNW stands for Do Not Want, and it's anything (anything) that would ruin a gift for you. You can DNW certain characters, crossovers, types of aus, types of content, specific ways of writing or art, quotes from specific people if you're requesting web weaves, specific music if you're okay with playlists, types of endings, specific sounds if you're requesting podfic— the list goes on. I did a short DNW there to make it all fit within the screen, but my normal one is quite long. There will be a thread in the discord where people can compare DNWs to see if there's anything you want to add to yours.
The rule is that as long as you are polite (nothing like "no kid fic because it's creepy to age down characters") and specific (nothing like "no kinks", because that is too broad and subjective of a category for people to try and navigate) and you don't box your gifter into a specific gift (nothing like "nothing that isn't canon compliant fic specifically about the fairy fort burning") then you're good to go! Because I selected a Solo tag I specifically have to tell my gifter if I'm okay with shipping and which ships, so there's a line there about that. You do need to either put down a DNW or say DNW: no restrictions, so that your recipient knows that everything is on the table.
Please make sure that your DNW and your letter link (if you're using a letter) is included on every fandom box. This is for two reasons. 1) we need to make sure your DNW is in a format that locks once it gets sent to your gifter, not somewhere you could still edit it, like tumblr. 2) There is an option to separate up requests by fandom for people who are looking for extra gifts to give, and that means someone might see only one fandom of your request before giving you something. You need to make sure that anyone who sees just one fandom of your request still has all the information necessary to make a gift.
Note: If you are signing up to the 18+ collections, it's a very good idea to include specific NSFW likes and NSFW DNW because people's tastes can vary wildly, and there's nothing worse than someone carefully making you a gift that's exactly the wrong type of thing for you because are into different things. Give your gifter something to work with and a direction to head in!
And then there's the optional tags box. This is for extra holidays! The additional tags are how you tell someone what holidays you're good to have in your gift, and it only allows you to select 20 at once. But if you wanted to select more holidays than that, you can put them down in the optional tags box! Or you can select any additional tags and just do every holiday at once.
And technically, that's three relationships, so I could call it done there! That's the minimum to request, I'm done. But what if I like other fandoms too? How do I add them? Well. There is a button for that.
In that case, I can hit this button, and it brings me up another request box, and I can do this all over again with another fandom! You can go up to 10 fandoms, with a maximum of 20 tags for each.
But what if you really really REALLY like rats smp and there are 30 tags in the tag set and you want them all?
Two options. One is that instead of putting in relationship tags one by one, you hit the any relationship button.
That will match you to any relationship in the tag set. That doesn't mean any tag on Ao3, but it does mean any tag that's been nominated into the tag set, and we keep the tag nominations open so people can get in their last-minute ships. If you select this one, keep an eye on the tag set to make sure that nobody nominates something that's a hard no for you.
Option two is that you hit the button for another request, and then you just do Rats SMP again, with different tags! You can request the same fandom more than once, with different tags— so you can do a request for your shippy tags and one for your platonic ones, or one for your family tags and one for your non-family ones, or one for desert duo and one for convex, or any other way you want to split it up! As long as you go over the minimum of three relationships requested, you've filled out a valid request! Request ten different fandoms or the same one ten times— it'll work.
Offers
And then we scroll down a little bit to the offers page. Let's take a look at it!
So this is telling the machine the type of gift you are open to making, and making sure you're matchable to someone else's request that will look like the one we just did. You've gotta give the machine the information in a way it'll understand so it can whirr away and give you a match to someone who requested the type of stuff you like to make. So how is this done? I did 3rd life again for the fandom, and the type of gift I can make is fic, so I selected fic for the gift type.
I only need a minimum of three relationships for the relationships, but there's more stuff that'll write than I wanted as a gift, so I have a bunch of relationships in there! I could match on any one of them, so I make sure to offer just relationships I'm confident I can write. Like with the requests, / means a romantic (or sexual, if you are in the 18+ collection) relationship, and & means platonic. Solo: means I can bring any relationships I want into the fic as long as the focus is on the person in the tag and my recipient hasn't DNWed those characters.
When it comes to holidays I COULD go down the list and select everything, but it's easier to just select any additional tag, and that'll make sure I'm matchable no matter what holidays someone selects! I figure that I can do my research on different holidays, and maybe ask for a beta reader to help out if I match on a holiday I'm not used to!
On archive warnings I select no archive warnings apply and graphic depictions of violence, and that means I'm matchable to people who selected either one of those.
And Optional tags is for overflow holidays, but I already selected any holidays, so I'm good to go! This is a complete signup! I can submit it now!
But what if I want to offer other fandoms too? There's rats SMP, there's Hermitcraft, I'm still a DSMP fan—
You can add up to ten fandoms, and same as with requests, you can go up to either 20 tags or "any tag (in the tag set)" for each fandom.
And then you scroll down to the bottom and hit submit, and that's it, you're officially signed up!
Editing and etc
You can go back and edit and tweak your signup any time you want until signups close— remove ships, add them, add prompts, edit your DNW— it's all editable until midnight EST on the 17th of November, when signups close and lock for us to run matching on.
The matching requires:
1 match on fandom
1 match on character (gift type)
1 match on relationship
1 match on additional tags (holidays)
1 match on warnings
So you will be assigned to someone where you have at least one tag in common in all of those categories— a fandom you selected, a gift type you can make, a relationship you said you can do, a holiday you opted into, and a level of archive warnings you said you were good with. The system tries to match you with more tags, but sometimes there are edge cases and you only match on one tag. No matter what is on your recipient's signup, you only have to make one gift, and you only have to make a gift with the tags you signed up with— if someone requested major character death and no warnings apply and you offered no warnings apply, you just can focus in on no warnings apply. Your requests are public, so that people can give bonus gifts if they want to and so that we can pinch-hit your requests if necessary (and so your recipient can see what you requested), but your offers are private (only the mods see them). Make sure you only request things which you are okay having public, or speak to the mods about setting up a sock account.
Signing up gives mods access to your Ao3 email (it's how we send you your assignment), so make sure the email attached to your AO3 account is one that a) you check regularly, and b) are comfortable with exchange mods seeing. You can verify your email here: archiveofourown.org/users/[your ao3 name here]/change_email If for some reason we can’t find a way to give you an assignment (say you only offered ships that nobody was requesting), mods will ask you to make more offers until we can give you an assignment. If we can't give you an assignment— there's nobody in the whole exchange you could make a gift for— you will not be able to continue in the exchange. If we can’t assign you to someone (either you are requesting things nobody offered or the matching just didn't work out to cover you), you will be an initial pinch hit, and someone will opt in to take you on as an extra assignment. Initial pinch hits are normal and expected in an exchange of this size, don't panic if you see yourself as one of them. If there is someone in the exchange that you don’t want to match with (for any reason ranging from "we have each other blocked on tumblr" to "we give each other gifts a lot and we want to give gifts to other people this time"), contact the mods through the ticket system and we’ll hand-adjust the matches. We can only do this before matches go out— if you match to someone you can't create for you'll have to drop your assignment and send it to pinch hits, which we would like to avoid happening if at all possible. Please make sure you send us any Do Not Match requests before signups close!

Building a Tumblr theme
Saturday 17th June 2023
Haha, I love starting random projects. I was bored, as I do, and thought "Mmmh I'm sure building a Tumblr theme was on my projects to-do list?" and find out it was so I just started it.
I read the official documentation and this online book about how to build themes on Tumblr and now I think I've got the idea of how to work with the custom tags. It reminds me of using Django with the {block} tags - guessing Tumblr uses a framework I just don't know what.
Anyhoo, I used one of my older projects (I really need to finish that project) as a starting stone. My gosh, have an HTML and CSS template already OR build the design up already then just add the Tumblr custom tags into the code, cause me copying and pasting my code in is such a time saver. I hate the Tumblr code editor.
I'm having fun 😩🙌🏾💗

Kono Oto Tomare Chapter 128 Scans and Rough TL
Disclaimer: Please DO NOT use this translation to make your own TL of the chapter!! The KOT TL group works very hard to give you the most accurate translation, that does as much justice to the original script as possible. This is a ROUGH translation. That means is faulty and there must be mistakes in certain places. This is just for impatient people like myself to get a grasp on what is going on in the chapter! You can REFERENCE my TL if you want to discuss the chapter but never USE it as it was your own.

Sign: Judge's Waiting Room.
Side Text: It's Tokise's turn. The competition's second day begins...
Chapter Title: #128 Dull Footsteps
Judge Tatsumi: !
Judge Tatsumi: Agata-sensei, Kurokawa-sensei. Good morning. You are both early, I see.
Page 2
Judge Agata: No, we just arrived ourselves.
Judge Tatsumi: Did you get enough rest yesterday?
Judge Agata: Well, yes.
Judge Tatsumi: I was so excited I didn't sleep a wink!
Judge Tatsumi: To think high school clubs would display such high level!
Judge Tatsumi: And today Ichiei, the best in the nation, will play. I truly can not wait.
Judge Kurokawa: Certainly, they have won for 5 consecutive years.
Judge Tatsumi: Exactly! That is amazing---
Judge Kurokawa: Then again, Ichiei's members are all children who aim to become professionals, so it's to be expected that they are at a completely different level.
Judge Tatsumi: You may be right about that but... Yesterday's Meiryo and Chibana's performances were perfect
Judge Tatsumi: I can't imagine what could possibly surpass that.
Page 3
Judge Tatsumi: ---Also, there is one school that has picked my interest.
Judge Kurokawa: !
Judge Kurokawa: Aah, you mean that problematic school...
Judge Kurokawa: They are out of the question, I would say.
Judge Kurowaka: How could they cause such a commotion and not get suspended?
Judge Tatsumi: They did explain to us that the students weren't really at fault for the incident.
Judge Kurokawa: Where there is smoke, there is fire. It's detrimental to the other students as well.
Judge Kurokawa: At least we, the judges, should give a proper and fair evaluation---
Judge Agata: Are you not planning to judge them solely based on their performance?
Judge Kurokawa: Eh...?
Page 4
Judge Agata: Excuse me but, it sounded to me like you are planning on lowering your rating over areas irrelevant to the performance, so…
Judge Kurokawa: ...I'm sorry you see it that way. To begin with, I don't believe you can separate the performance from the performer.
Judge Kurokawa: For instruments and music... Attitude. Courtesy, Respect... I believe those things are included in the performance.
Judge Kurokawa: And I will most definitely consider them in my judgment.
Judge Kurokawa: --Well, I don't know if you would understand this, Agata-sensei, since you are a musician who always does new things, like collaborating with other genres and using unusual performance methods without respecting the traditions.
Page 5
Judge Agata: I have never disrespected tradition.
Judge Arata: I am trying to explore all of its possibilities while cherishing it.
Judge Tatsumi: Now, now.
Judge Tatsumi [thoughts]: Man... These two are a pain in the ass as per usual...
Judge Tatsumi [thoughts]: ---Then again, the school in question... I feel sorry for the Tokise kids.
Judge Tatsumi[thoughts]: Even in the unlikely event that they make it to the top
Judge Tatsumi [thoughts]: I can clearly see the bashing we would receive from other schools and their parents.
Judge Tatsumi [thoughts]: I want to avoid that kind of hassle.
Page 6
Judge Tatsumi [thoughts]: But that doesn't mean I wouldn't be conscience-stricken if I lowered my ranking because of that.
Judge Tatsumi [thoughts]: At the end of the day
Judge Tatsumi [thoughts]: It will be fine as long as Tokise's performance is not that good.
Judge Nanba: Good morning---
Judge Tatsumi: Nanba-sensei, Iwagaki-san, good morning.
Judge Tatsumi [thoughts]: --My... to think I could be so calculating and cowardly.
Judge Tatsumi [thoughts]: I think I have become one boring adult.
Page 7
Isaki [thoughts]: I was a bit late to leave. I wonder if I can still ambush Takaoka-kun.
Isaki [thoughts]: Also, I wonder if Uzuki will be waiting for me
Isaki [thoughts]: If not… well, that's the path he chose for himself.
???: Isaki.
Page 8
Isaki: Eh?
Tetsuki: ...
Tetsuki: ...Whatever, I've already gotten used to it. This pattern.
Tetsuki: Alright, fine. I will get in.
Page 9
Isaki: ...Takaoka-kun, sorry.
Tetsuki: Eh?
Isaki: For every time I've taken you forcibly on a drive, I have not once felt an ounce of regret about it. If anything I enjoyed seeing how much you hated it.
Tetsuki: What?
Isaki: But today
Isaki: I regret it from the bottom of my heart. I'm very sorry.
Tetsuki: What's with that, suddenly? I'm scared now.
Isaki: Well, first off, get in.
Tetsuki: I reaally don't want to...
Isaki: Just do it
Tetsuki: Whaa---...
Page 10

TL/N: Welcome to spooky season.
Page 11
Tetsuki: ----... Uh... umm...
Tetsuki [thoughts]: Don't... tell me
Tetsuki [sfx]: Turns
Isaki: Yup, as expected you are quick on the uptake.
Isaki: -----
Page 12
Isaki: That's Chika's father.
Chika(?): No joke, the air is so crisp and clear the moment you arrive at the venue!
Mittsu(?): It feels like something is about to happen
Satowa(?): Aren't there more people than yesterday?
Chika(?): Ah, you are right.
Suzuka: Well, it's Ichiei's, the Nation's number one, turn. Also--
Page 13
Student 1: Aren't those the Tokise people?
Student 2: Woah, they are.
Student 3: They do kinda stick out like a sore thumb...
Student 4: They really came...
Sane: Ri... right...
Suspicious men: Did you take it?
Chika: !
Satowa: Kudou?
Tsukaji: Hello, you guys!
Tsukaji: How are you feeling?
Page 14
Chika: Old man!
Tsukaji: Did you get proper sleep yesterday?
Chika: Ye- yeah
Suspicious guy 1: Who's that dude. Get outta the way---
Komaki: Whaaat---
Komaki: Are these Peeping Toms what I'm seeing here? Oh gosh, scaaryy-
Tsurugi: Security, over here--!
Suspicious guy 1: Shut up. What the hell!
Suspicious guy 2: Hey, let's just go.
Tsurugi: What? You shut up!!
Tsurugi: Are you ok?
Suzuka: I'm sorry. Thank you very much.
Student 1: Even voyeurs.
Student 2: Well, isn't this their own fault?
Page 15
Student 3: Isn't it because Tokise has come that people with no civility have gathered here?
Student 4: This is really bothersome.
Tsukaji: Ugh---
Chika: Old ma...
Sane: It's all good, Tsukaji-san.
Sane: I don't mean to brag here, but we are used to playing in hostile fields
Page 16
Mittsu: You really are bragging---
Satowa: Well, we have certainly got used to it.
Satowa: To people (audibly) talking behind our backs and being looked at with disdain.
Takezou [thoughts]: They really do have thick skin... Should I be happy about that...?
Hiro: Hozuki-chan is growing so fast.
Takezou [thoughts]: Ah but, what about the first years---
Atsumu: I used to get bullied! The fact that you guys are with me now makes me feel so at ease!
Natsu: I don't care about other people.
Takezou [thoughts]: Aah, so strong.
Sane: Wahaha we know, Momoya.
Page 17
Sane: Well, that's how it is. So you don't have to---
Tsukaji: I'm so touched...
Sane: Whaat--...?
Tetsuki [thoughts]: ...Isaki-san.
Isaki [thoughts]: ...Yes.
Page 18
Tetsuki [thoughts]: What is this ride from hell?
Isaki [thoughts]: Sorry. I'm really sorry...
Isaki [thoughts]: My brother didn't even contact me, he just suddenly appeared...!!
[flashback begins]
Chika's Father: ---Isaki
Isaki: Eh?
Isaki: Wai- what!? Bro- brother!?
Isaki: Wha- no way. Why are you here!? Don't tell me you came to listen to the performance!?
Page 19
Chika's Father: ...
Isaki: Ah, no.
Isaki: Sorry, I totally thought you were not coming. You gave me a start.
Chika's Father: I'm going back.
Isaki: What!?
Isaki: Now, wait a second. Why are you so bent out of shape over this? Didn't it take a lot of determination to come here!?
Isaki: And didn't you come all the way to where I'm staying hoping I could give you some room with Chika!?
Page 20
Chika's Father: ...I haven't really thought about something like that.
Chika's Father: I don't want to see him.
Isaki: ...Then why did you come all they way to this place.
Chika's Father: ...
Chika's Father: ... ....
Isaki [sfx]: Pissed
Isaki: Whatever, I gotta go pick those two up. For the time being, just get in the car, Brother!!
[end flashback]
Isaki[thoughts]: Maybe I was too reckless---
Page 21
Isaki [thoguths]: No, but if I let him like that, I'm sure Brother would've gone back...
Isaki [thoughts]: Even so, this atmosphere is so heavy---
Tetsuki: Um.
Tetsuki: Is today perhaps... your day off from work?
Isaki [thougths]: Takaoka-kun...
Chika's Father: No...
Tetsuki: Ah, that means you took a vacation day to come here, then.
Chika's Father [sfx]: Glare...
Tetsuki [thoughts]: Woah
Isaki: Hold on!! You drop that rude attitude towards Takaoka-kun right now, you stupid brother.
Chika's Father: !
Page 22
Isaki: He has always been beside Chika supporting him, and the reason he is able to smile now is because of Takaoka-kun!
Isaki: Instead of glaring at him shouldn't you be thanking him?
Chika's Father: ...I ...See.
Chika's Father: ... ... Sorry...
Tetsuki: Ah, not at all...
Isaki[thoughts]: A man who won't say"Thank you"...
Page 23
Chika's Father: ...Are you also his... friend?
Tetsuki & Isaki: !!
Uzuki: ...No. I'm...
Uzuki: The person who vandalized Chika's Granpa's place and then framed Chika as the culprit.
Tetsuki & Isaki [thoguths]: Geh....!!!!
Page 24
Chika's Father: Wha...
Uzuki: Also, recently, to make Chika look bad, I edited a video where he was helping out a kid from being harassed, posted it on social media, and it became trending.
Tetsuki: He- Hey, Uzuki Are you serious...
Chika's Father: ..Wha
Chika's Father: What... Are you saying...?
Chika's Father: You mean that incident, it wasn't the guys he hung out with---
Isaki: I don't know how many times I've told you, Chika had nothing to do with it.
Chika's Father: But... The fact that he was the cause of it is true, isn't it!?
Isaki: ...Trying to become happy... He grabbed onto Dad's hand, that's all.
Chika's Father: Hu...
Page 25
Uzuki: Fu ...If you had really looked at Chika.
Uzuki: You would have easily known that.
Isaki: Uzuki-kuuun?? You are right, but that is not something you should be saying, is it?
Isaki: You have no right to reproach my brother.
Page 26
Uzuki: ... I'm sorry...
Tetsuki [thoughts]: ...What is this ride from hell... (Second time)
Isaki [thoghts]: I promise I will invite you to eat expensive meat.
[flashback]
Chika's Father: You are a disgrace!!
Chika's Father: In your 3rd year of middle school, and you can't tell the difference between what is right and what is wrong to do!?
Isaki: Wait, Brother! Stop it, we are in front of Dad.
Chika's Father: You stay out of it!
Chika's Father: What's with those eyes. If you have an excuse, then say it
Chika: ...Nah, not really.
Page 27
Chika's Father: What did you say?
Chika: Whatever, I don't care.
Chika [memory]: Dad
Chika [memory]: Dad
Chika[distorted]: D a d...
Page 28
Chika: I don't give a shit about what you think about me anymore.
Chika [memory]: I'm sorry for being born.
[end flashback]
Page 29
Chika's Dad [thoughts]: Even if there is a person right next to me who framed my son for a crime.
Chika's Dad [thoughts]: Even if that person spits sarcasm at me.
Page 30
Chika's Dad [thoughts]: The right to be angry about such a thing.
Chika's Dad [thoughts]: I don't have it.
Sane: I'm glad we can sit together.
Kota: Riight?---
Page 31
Takezou's Mom: Takezou! Takezou!
Takezou: Ah
Chika: Your mom and dad?
Takezou: Yeah...
Chika: Wahaha You look just like your mom!!
Page 32
Assistant: Ichiei High School, you have 10 minutes before leaving.
Kifune-sensei: Yes, thank you. Ok, guys, let's get ready to leave---...
Page 33
Kifune-sensei: Mi...
Luka: Miran, it's time.
Page 34
Akira: If I remember correctly, Ichiei was playing 4th, right?
Suzuka: Yes.
Akira: Um... Did you notice? Ichiei's parts. Before, they---...
Suzuka: Aah, yes.
Program:
Solo - Luka Chevalier
1st Koto - Hoshou Sao
2nd Koto: Hanahata Imari
3rd Koto: Saotome Miran
17-Stringed Koto: Takamura Togo
Suzuka: Apparently, they have no intention of giving up first place this year either.

Hey, Ennina! How are you? I've started recently playing Sims 3 again. I thought you could answer a few questions of mine regarding putting mods in my game. I downloaded and installed mods in several bulks following the Steam guide and other simmers' recent resources (your blog I found afterwards and still haven't looked at your gspreadsheet). I made sure to put mods in my game matching my game version and my packs. Despite that now I have the popup when starting the game: It looks like you have mods installed that do not match your... (or whatever it says in English). I continued anyway and haven't run into problems in game yet. What are your experiences? What problems could occur in game so I can look for them?
Thank you!
Hi!!
First off, it's lovely to meet you! I actually haven't seen that pop up before. The only thing I can think is that you might have downloaded a mod that requires an expansion pack or stuff pack that you don't have. It's possible that the modern might have forgotten to mention a pack in the details. Happens to the best of us! Depending on the mod, if it's a simple one, the mod will probably just not work in your game. If it's running all right now, you might be good to go!
If you ever want to take the time to track that mod down, I recommend removing mods in batches of 10. Then launch the game and see if the pop up still comes up. Once you get to a point where you find the batch that was causing the issue, put those last 10 back in a seperate folder. Then start removing mods from that folder one by one and launching the game until you find the troublemaker! It can be really time consuming, but effective :-) it's also possible more than one mod is causing the issue, which can make it a bit more of a headache.
Just in case, you can always back up your save file, and if you go into edit town you can also save your family and any other families or buildings that have meaning to you. That way if worse comes to worse, you can always kind of rebuild the same game you've been playing 😁
One last idea! Try running Delphi Dashboard. It will tell you if you have any broken or conflicting mods. When it comes to conflictions, the program is really sensitive so sometimes it produces false positives. If you're interested I can share with you a link on how mods interact with each other, which can give you a better understanding of which types of mods can cause issues. It's really in-depth 😊
Sims 3 Dashboard too!

Best of luck! Let me know if you need any more help!

How to Add Images to Ao3
Since it's @steddiebang season I thought I'd do a quick guide on how to add images to your fics in case people don't know how! First off, you need to use the "Rich Text" Editor on Ao3
Next, you need the url of the image you want to embed. This needs to be a direct link to the image (not the post of it on socials) the way to get this is to right click on the pic wherever it's posted and "copy image address" this will copy the direct link to the image
In the Ao3 Rich Text editor click the picture icon to "insert/edit image" paste the "source" url adjust width and height as needed
There you go! Image in your fic! A few things to note: I copied this url from tumblr, the quality is significantly lower than the Ch1 image I already have in there. Since I haven't posted all my title cards on socials I posted them on imgur and set them to private. You could also post them on a private Pinterest board or another hosting site, you just need that url to the image address.
If you want the image to be centered (something i struggled with for a while) you can click next to it to select the text line it's sitting in and center it from there
Personally, when I embed art in fics I add a line underneath to link to credit the artist & the original post to encourage readers to engage with the art directly. You can do that in the rich text editor like so:
And cause i'm a stickler for crediting here's the link to this art by @glitterfang on Twitter & Tumblr
If you want to link anything in the Summary or Notes then you need to use html like this: <a href="LINK URL" rel="nofollow">DISPLAY TEXT</a> Okay! Thanks for coming to my ted talk, hope that helps at least one person!

Musing on remaking the browser (and internet) as we know it.
HTML+CSS is by far the best 'component' library there is, but JS really tends to be the main cause of bogging down the entire thing and drowning out the performance gains.
The idea is something along these lines (this ended up being far longer than initially intended):
HTML Viewer, directly from a plain HTML source, I've even considered using a headless browser, taking a 'photo' of the webpage, and then laying out a bitmap onto it, might not be needed, but could be cool and useful.
Once a user, or a function 'clicks' or focuses on a section of the bitmap, then the embedded language uses this is as a target selector to manipulate the data of the HTML viewer source, directly without page loads. Similar to an SPA but, without JS, similar to 'hot-wire', but again without JavaScript.
a separate database built into the 'browser' similar to indexdb, but likely something more similar and powerful such as SQLite with permission guards for applications (think OAuth, running locally).
This would obviously change the dynamic properties of a 'browser', and would make it more akin to an enhanced PDF editor with dynamic input (pop-ups instead of dynamic forms, etc.). But, I am starting to believe the problem and performance issue of the browser is less the sandbox (which this would enhance), but because we've forced a data language into what should be a static component library with targeted source changes.
This is a difficulty that we're seeing the weight of, we only have two major browser types, two engines. There have been so many attempts to recreate them, but they are all attempts at recreating the worst parts of a rendering agent that combines and forces the merger of highly volatile dynamic data into static components.
They have said for years that no one can 'make a new browser rendering engine' because of how many variables and issues and decades of bad choices and changes from the infancy of development.
Gopher, and the similar, are interesting projects, but they lack in several regards: data entry, minimal schematic support for modern HTML and CSS capabilities, and they are attempting to recreate an entire protocol. The protocol we have for file and web transfer is excellent, despite its shortcomings, but it is highly stable, reproducible, and effective.
If we were to remove 'dynamic' capabilities, such as forms, or text boxes, and all that JavaScript entails, the HTML viewer would be minimal for performance. The embedded language on top would hold the data separately from the process—rendering inputs to be sanitized and standardized. If the browser fails, your data would be backed up, you would have a complete revision history of all data ever processed, and you would have. This is likely the path forward for something akin to the Solid Project, where you own your data.
Every 'browser' becomes your own personal data temple or silo, and every web page becomes 'server-side' generated and modified with targeted manipulation or key:values from the integrated (stateful) database by your locally running browser.
When you go to someone else's website, most of which is just static content anyway, you get the HTML source, and the source for a/any(?) scripting language that would use the values from the browser overlay tracker for targeting to rewrite and submit specific HTML components.
The manipulator overlay would be an entirely separate process, with a simple message transfer between the two. This entirely separates your data into a stateful persistent object (no more losing your form data as you type due to a reload, or failure, or anything else, with full history) and your dynamic script, if a site needs it (most don't), would be in its own process. There would be a message transfer queue, likely using the built-in database with @\tagged hooks for event dispatches.
You would be able to have fully sandboxed, extremely performant, websites, while owning your own data. The browser as a server HTML renderer, the webpage as an “image” (sort of), and an 'overlay' selector for an embedded image to submit changes to individual HTML components.
If you were to separate it into three extremely slim, minimal, processes, with an integrated database with OAuth style permission switches. You would have just created a new browser, and a new way for the web to work, using virtually no memory, enhancing security, and with far less complexity. In a way, this would turn the web into a 'native' application.
You also would have quite a bit of backwards compatibility to the pre-NewWeb.
You should own your data, websites should be static, data should be dynamic, and browsers should be performant.
Just some musing on the topic, I'm working on something similar, but not exactly in regard to this—so maybe I'll spend some time and add it to the ever-growing projects list.

oOOOOooohhhhhhhh i get it now. i have Identified the Problem that has caused the most recent amadeus-related crisis/spiral/whatever you want to call it.
there are 5-ish "roles" that i have taken on as a solo dev:
project manager
musician/sound director
programmer/implementation engineer
writer/narrative lead
artist/art director
and for each i THOUGHT i had figured out how to tackle them.
project management: I've had some experience managing collaborative projects (GBA collab album, mystery jam game), I also solicited advice from other indie devs I met at Seattle Indies Expo, and I *also* applied what I learned about how we manage projects in facilities at my day job using Asana and have applied that to Amadeus. I very consciously treated this as a skill to learn and taking that specific skill seriously has helped a lot.
music: ...I straight up went to grad school for this. I took like a billion units every semester so I could learn as much as possible about composition AND mixing/production. This is the one thing I actually have a strong background in. I have the skillset and I also have People I can ask for feedback and advice. The music is lowkey going to carry this whole project.
programming: I went into this knowing full well I have exactly One semester of Unity/C# under my belt and have no idea what I am doing. I have experience learning basic HTML and JavaScript and have reverse engineered most of Ghost Trick's code via ROMhacking, so I have a sort of janky skillset, but it's very amateur and I knew that. I have asked SO many questions to people who are more experienced. KNOWING that this is my weakest suit has let me ask for help when I need it, and also accept that even the most polished possible form of this game is still going to be jank as fuck. That's fine. My #vision will still come through.
writing: the whole reason I set aside an entire month to just focus on the Mystery Jam game was because I knew I needed more experience writing, and specifically writing mystery. I've spoiled the whole game to two different people who have writing experience in order to bounce ideas and get feedback. I've asked for workflow advice from a third person with writing experience. Identifying this as a weakness has helped me focus on improving it, and because of that I am really happy with where it's at right now.
Which leads us to....
...art.
My problem with art is that as of about 2 years ago, I was much more confident in my art than I was in basically anything else except music, because I have drawn stuff my whole life and have a shitload of informal practice at it. So I focused very heavily on the other stuff that was very obviously a weakness.
But, as we approach the final months of Go Time to finish the first episode... I'm like, hm, it turns out that the art and art direction of a visual novel are kind of important.
I *like* all of the assets I've drawn for the currently existing demo, but there are specific things about the overall look I don't quite like, and there is a specific metanarrative Thing that I have been trying to evoke with what I'm doing visually and I feel like sticking to that is at odds with making assets that look and "feel" right.
Basically I haven't really thought as much about art direction as I should have since finishing the demo because I kinda figured I could coast on the fact I consider myself a pretty good artist. I can make things that look Nice. But now that I've worked hard at my other areas of weaknesses, the fact I haven't really sat down with my art direction in the past 4-5 months is really starting to become obvious.
All this to say.
My "assignment" for this afternoon is to sit outside listening to all the tracks I've written (including new WIP ones no one but me has heard yet CUZ THEYRE AWESOME im SO excited about the new tracks im writing for this) and reading through my revised narrative with certain finalized plot points and concepts, and just sketching out visually what the game Should Look Like. I am almost certain I can still use the assets I've already drawn, like the sprites and backgrounds and icons and such, but I may edit them differently, or add to them, or otherwise change something about them. I just need to make some choices because I'm feeling stuck and I need to get un-stuck if I am going to finish this game AND I AM DETERMINED TO DO SO.
#you ever just go OHHHHHHHHHHH thats why im stressed#and it's like well hey at least now i have a problem i can solve#instead of just vaguely feeling like THE WORLD IS OVER GAME DEVELOPMENT SUCKS WAH etc etc#personal

image urls and how to use them is like one of the FIRST things I learned(and few things I remember) from my middle school coding classes-- I ended up not sticking with coding, but in retrospect it's great I got to learn basic stuff like that with how big the virtual space became in the following years
also having an image for my background was. the only thing I wanted so besides figuring out how to unround the corners I'm done doing stuff
I’m looking for blog themes and my favorite one is literally an ad. might have to learn html again.
#also the background image is a place holder-- I'll probably make my own that's better quality#also also in fairness the virtual space was already HUGE then I just didn't know cause I didn't get any social media until 8th grade#coding to me is kinda like morse code or chess like yes it's great I know how to do this. when will i ever use this.#tumblr is one of the few sites where you can actually edit the html#also small thing I hate about the current state of things is#so MANY people make tech such a HUGE part of their lives but don't know ANYTHING about how to use computers or iphones or#any way to take advantage of tech beyond consuming media and filling in templates#april.txt#april.lore

I found your web weave about last online 7 years ago and scp 1762 (And I Love It), and I noticed it said you can’t reblog unless you were from the SGE site. What is that exactly?
*looks up from my drink, in the corner of the bar*
So. You wanna know about the SGE site, huh? Well.
Once upon a time, there was an online community.
Fandom forum, though the Open Chat one (equivalent of a #general channel in a discord server) was by far the most used. You got a book you read when you were 12 that changed your life? SGE's the acronym for what was that book for me. You might've seen the movie adaptation on Netflix a couple years back. I really waited seven years for that... I'm getting off topic. Back to the website.
The userbase was in the 8-17 age range, 90% girls, many of us the kind of people who devoured books like it was nothing in our then-ongoing preteen years. The few moderators never even looked at us unless we reported a glitch, spammer, or bigot for them to deal with, so we had no adult supervision.
Open Chat was used for, among other things, the most chaotic unhinged roleplay you can imagine. We got really into it. Wild parties that lasted days, food fights that quickly escalated into the hunger games, everything to do with those living shadows, Bob the alien, the Potato Kingdom, many of us had pets or imaginary friends doing this alongside us, I'm barely scratching the surface here, if I were to try to explain it all we'd be here for weeks. Quoting the Bee Movie script or singing certain songs had a tendency to cause all hell to break loose paranormally, one time it opened a portal to the underworld. It was the most fun ever. There was a reason we'd greet newcomers with "try not to die".
Aside from the chaos, there was contests where we'd reply with images of dresses or cute animals or what else have you, lots of clubs based around various things, people would sing (post song lyrics, sometimes roleplaying whole flashy performances) and post fun questions for everyone to answer and stories and neat videos we found and really good poetry and so, so much more that we didn't archive because we just assumed it would always be there.
It's where I met a lot of my closest friends- hell, it was the only place where I regularly got invited to participate in anything. I don't think there's anyone on that site who didn't forge friendships there. It's also how I got into quite a lot of songs and books and shows, and how I learned HTML formatting. That site was my home. It was the best part of my life for years.
You know how online friends are, though. Sometimes they disappear without a trace, a warning, or an explanation. Or their parents forbid them from going on the site because they think online chat rooms are dangerous.
I joined at 12. By the time I was nearing age 15, most of my friends had disappeared without a trace, never to return. I was one of the very few users to join in 2016 who was still active. The site wasn't abandoned, there were new people everywhere, but...
I don't pretend to understand the why of it, but the magic just. Started fading, I suppose. The community was falling apart. The roleplay got more stale and repetitive and often died down before it went anywhere. It all slowly declined and decayed and became a shell of itself. A hollow mimicry of what we once had. It wasn't really fun anymore, and I found myself wondering what was left to stay for. Just got worse in this regards, up until the website's final days, even after the rest of the userbase started becoming aware of it.
Eventually one day, the Open Chat started glitching hard. It had done that before, many times, and always been fixed. That time, though, it went down for repairs and never came back up. They said they'd bring it back, and they never did. Here's the thing, though- our posts all disappeared. When other forums on that website got closed around then, we could still see the posts by going through our post histories, we just couldn't reply to them. Open Chat and every last record of what we did there just vanished entirely, like it never existed.
It never even got crawled by the Wayback Machine.
...Now that I mention it, tomorrow's actually the anniversary of when Open Chat went down... how the FUCK was that five years ago it does NOT feel like it's been anywhere near that long.
Anyways.
During this time, the very few (like, there was maybe 2 at most) moderators had begun responding to drama by banning offsite links, followed by, several months after we lost our Open Chat, banning off-topic (non-SGE-related) discussions entirely, which sparked riots and a petition and they knew what it meant to the userbase, even to newer people who'd only known the comparatively lifeless version, we told the admins as hard as we could, and they did nothing. Well, other users told them anyways. I knew the site was beyond saving and thus didn't do anything but listen to music and make "let me guess, your home?" memes.
We also lost the ability to make posts in our profiles that weren't in any forums but could be seen if you went through the user's post history.
The official end was the "revamp" of the website, that was just a shutdown. They deleted everything that was left of it and all the records of what we were, and made a completely new website that the old one's url now redirects to. Though at least this time they had the courtesy to announce it a month and a half in advance so we could load as much as we could of what remained into archive.org during those weeks. There's no forum feature on the new site, and user data wasn't transferred. I never made an account on the new site. Why would I?
You can probably guess by reading those lyrics and asofterworld screencaps that I, and at least some other users I'm still in contact with, never really got over the death of that community.
That last image in my webweave is a screenshot of the page that now comes up whenever you type in the url for a forum or an old site member's profile and hit enter.
#sorry if you just wanted a brief two-sentence response and not a 7 hour long recount of the end of an age#it's just. y'know. tomorrow is the anniversary of that forum being lost to history.#and after being sent this ask i proceeded to reread the whole webweave and my eyes are wet rn#anyways it's 4:27am so imma hit post and go to sleep#if you REALLY wanna rb the post i don't really mind too much i just don't want it breaching containment enough for the notes to#end up consisting mostly of people who don't know what the webweave is actually about

Got inspired by your website and am attempting to make myself one since my old spacehey got terminated. However I’m having the hardest time figuring out how to link a second page and more importantly how to make containers for text. Very much struggling. An hour of effort and all I have is a background and a header. I’ll figure it out eventually I’m sure, but if I get desperate enough I may end up asking you for a couple codes here and there.
Do you have class today? I’m in my earth science class right now. Really excited cause my math course on Friday is optional, so I get to sleep in a little later than usual.
Little old me, inspiration? No way, not a single bit true. The reason that I made one myself is because my Spacehey got terminated as-well. Every single social media known to man hates the Columbine shooters, I suppose. I wish you the best of luck on the hell that is HTML/CSS. If you are still yet to figure out a way to link to a second page, or to make containers, I have a couple of ways. I will happily share the page linking right now, actually, at the bottom of this, for when you do eventually discover how to code a container. You might want to try a table, tables are fun to work with, just a little more linear and confined feeling. I dislike using them for that reason. I do have class, I was in French last period, and I just got out of lunch. I am in Algebra right now. Being a junior, my schedule is the same every day aside from Thursday and Friday, where I have home room squished into the middle of the day very annoyingly. I wish my math course were optional, although, it's considerably easier to get through than some of my other classes. Earth science also does sound a lot nicer, know that I want to take your place. I have Chemistry next semester for what will be my science class, Sociology for history credits and Algebra right now until January. The order of Chemistry, and Creative Writing, which is my second core class for the next semester, being together makes zero sense to me. I hope that class is easy on you today, seeing that next period I have a FUCKING PRESENTATION. I can brag that I got to leave early Monday! If you want the new page to be linked using a button with text inside of it, the way my diary button appears on my main page, for example, the way I did it was this. (Albeit removing the slash in the first "a href", it won't embed if I don't break the code). <\a href="whatever page, you have to make a new html index page to have another page show up clickably. Tedious, I know" class="new-page-button">WHATEVER TEXT YOU WANT INSIDE OF THE BUTTON</a> And, the matching CSS that you need for it to.. Look like anything, that you should keep seperate, towards the top of the page is where I put mine, is this. .new-page-button { display: inline-block; padding: 15px 30px; {You can change ALL of these values by their pixels, try using codepen.io to preview how it looks live while you input things.} margin: 20px 0; font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; text-shadow: 2px 2px 4px rgba(128, 128, 128, 1.5); color: #fff; text-decoration: none; background-image: url('WHATEVER BACKGROUND IMAGE YOU WANT FOR INSIDE THE BOX); background-size: cover; background-position: center; border: 0.8px solid #b0b0b0; border-top: 2.2px solid #b0b0b0; border-bottom: 2.2px solid #b0b0b0; border-radius: 0; letter-spacing: 2px; } If you want it to be an image of some kind, the HTML is this (same rule as before) <\div class="BUTTON"> <\a href="your page link(the new html one)" style="cursor: pointer;"> <\img src="image that you want to be what you click on to get to the page" alt="alttextforit" style="width: 60px; height: auto;"> </a> {All of this is alterable, like I said, customization.} And, of course, the CSS: .back-button-container { margin-top: 160px; text-align: center; } Let me know if any of this is of help to you at all, I hope that my very late explanation was useful.

im new to the anne fan club and love all of the fics about her and tim on ao3. i would like to write one, do you have any tips on how to start?
Figure out what you want to write about (both when it will be set and how that fits into the timeline of their relationship, and what you want the actual conceit of the fic to be). If it's set in a period or place that you have no personal knowledge of, do some research to make sure you're not including anything wildly anachronistic or unusual. (In particular with Anne - writing about horses can cause problems if you're not as much of a Weird Horse Girl as she is! It happened to an Emmy winning TV series, it can happen to you! Find a Weird Horse Girl to check it over for you!)
Once you have that in hand, it helps to make a chart or plan for your plot (if what you're writing has a plot 😏), just like when you learned to write stories in school. What happens at the beginning to kick things off; what builds up the tension to the climax; and how do things resolve at the end? (Okay, maybe this also applies to porn after all...) When you have an idea for the order things will happen, you can kinda pick whichever event inspires you the most and write it, and then work on the others and filling in the gaps. This is especially helpful for longer stuff where you might know what you want to wind up with as the climax but you're not sure about every step along the way.
Once you finish the draft, there are at least three editing passes you need to make.
Check for plotholes and other inconsistencies that require considerable deletion and rewriting to make the story make sense. Readings for accuracy and sensitivity from a beta go here as well.
Check for poorly written passages that require rephrasing to communicate their point clearly. A general beta reading goes here.
Copy-edit for spelling, grammar, usage and formatting. Britpicks go here as well, if you're into that.
Once you've done that you're ready to post! If you put it on AO3 you will need to make one more copy editing pass after you paste the fic into the text box - AO3 likes to fuck with formatting and may not preserve all the line breaks, punctuation, bold/italics/etc. you originally had. Using the rich text editor will make your life easier, especially if you don't know basic HTML/markdown.
Hope that's something to get you started! Welcome!

heyy, some 2 days ago you made a post recommending the fic The Fall, by Idrilia, on live journal, but I've only ever used ao3 so idk exactly how to use this one, because every time I try to to read it, it asks for my login, I created one, and then it just says that my access is denied.. do you know why that'd be? if you don't that's alright, it's just cause it happened before once or twice and I still don't know what happened...
Since AO3 is going down for maintenance today, it's probably a good time to answer this. So all of you who mainly hang around on AO3 have a little project to tide you over.
AO3 was founded in 2008. The basic idea behind AO3 (apart from being an all-inclusive archive) was to provide a safe fandom space free from companies and ad revenues. That there are users today who apparently cannot navigate a fanfic space apart from AO3 should be sign enough that AO3 is succeeding at its goal, giving enough fans enough access to everything they might want to read and more.
But: Of course, (internet)fandom existed before AO3. When I started reading fanfic in 1998/1999 most of it was hosted as static html on Geocities or Angelfire sites. If fans really meant business they bought their own webspace (I still have mine, though you can't access it). When I became enamoured with LOTR (and subsequently LOTRPS fandom) fanfiction communities were fragmented, small and were catering to different tastes. You could go to ff.net, to several specialized automated archives or Yahoogroups/Egroups (please read this article by @dawnfelagund if you'd like a deep dive into the history of archives). A lot of the adult parts of fandom happened on journaling sites like Livejournal and Dreamwidth. They were easy to set up and you could "police" who accessed your journal.
Why is this still relevant today? A lot of fannish spaces have vanished over the years - because the people inhabiting them moved on or because the space itself ceased to exist. Some fannish spaces (I'm now talking about LOTR and LOTRPS) have moved to AO3, like LOM or HASA. However, a lot of fannish spaces have disappeared (like Mirrormere) or they sit abandoned where no one will find them, because no one coming to the fandom now knows about them.
Two of those spaces are LJ and Dreamwidth. Livejournal was where you usually did your reading when you were into LOTRPS. After strikethrough in 2007, many fans moved to Dreamdwidth. Both sites use the same code, they work essentially in the same way. What you need to know:
These are journaling sites! Basically, they are blogs. "Normal" people would use them as a blog, chronicling their life or writing about their hobby. Fandom, though, always was a big part of Livejournal. Fans would post their fanfiction there, because they could decide who was allowed to read those stories.
Friending The profile of any given journal will show this journal's friendslist. Mine looks like this (my journal is completely public, though, there is no friends-only content):
These people will see my new posts in their journal. It works like it always does on social media. They subscribe to me, thye friend me, they become my mutual - whatever you like to call it. These are also the people who will see content that I post only for this circle of friends. This is what that looks like on DW:
Since a lot of (especially adult) fanfiction on LJ/DW is friendslocked, the owner of the journal needs to add you to there friendslist. Usually, by going to someone's journal with friendslocked content, you will only see a sticky post asking you to comment to be added. It might look something like this:
(From Silvan Lady's DW)
(Form Akasha Elfwitch's fic journal)
Sometimes, a user is extra-nice and gives you the info you need already on the profile page.
(From Chaosmanor's profile page on DW)
How to get added: First, you need a Livejournal and/or Dreamwidth account. Theoretically, you could access both with OpenID, but I'm not sure whether anyone still uses those. So, if in doubt, sign up with the service where the journal you want to read is hosted. After that, go to the journal in question and find the friends-only post. Comment on that post. It usually helps to tell the journal owner why you want to be added ("I want to read the fic!" or "I''ve heard about your fic, please add me"). And then you wait.
Caveat: Many of these people have moved on. Many of these journals are not in use anymore. Some people cannot access their journals anymore, which means that it's quite possible no one will answer and you won't be added. It's a gamble. But I've managed to get added to some LJs only last year, so it's not totally impossible. And I tell you, it's worth it! Especially when we're talking Viggorli, you're seeing only a marginal amount of what this ship was about on AO3. Of all the private journals and all the many comms, the only one that was transferred to AO3 (to my knowledge) was the Viggorli Secret Santa. You will definitely want to try and get access to some of those old journals! And who knows, maybe the writer in question will be totally thrilled that someone wants to read their fic so many years later. Stranger things have happened.
(If any of the oldies want to add something, please do! Though, I've purposefully not digged into the whole LJ-issue or why people left LJ to begin with. That's fodder for a different post. If anyone has questions, shoot!)
