i like to imagine that as soon as the words "someone arrived today, they said they're taking you away" left calypso's mouth, odysseus "sat at the beach every day for 7 years crying for his wife & son" of ithaca immediately jumped up wiped his tears away
then swiftly (without a glance at calypso), walked over to a bush/foliage near the beach and grabbed all the stuff he had been accumulating for 7 years during his prison stay, ready for the day he can leave this place.

I keep seeing people saying Zeus was OOC for striking Athena at the end of God Games and that he was mad at Odysseus
Guys, did we listen to the same song?
Athena's last argument to won the game was literally saying in a magic colleseum full of every single greek magical creature
"Yeah, Zeus is a cheater and a fuckboy, unlike Odysseus"
Athena literally won by insulting Zeus in front of everyone's faces and making Hera, the Goddess of Marriage and very much known wife of Zeus, agree with that.
Zeus was not pissed at Odysseus, he was very much pissed at Athena for using a mortal to compare him (and it goes somehow along the original story, in which Zeus complains about the humans being pissed at the gods for their fates when the gods are basically just "doing their jobs")

guys what stops poseidon from - when he recovers from getting 600 bitch slaps in the face and getting stabbed with his own trident - doing exactly what he said he'd do in get in the water???
we all know he can hold a grudge, why would he not just drown odysseus and his whole family once he has the power to do so?? he got humiliated. wouldn't he want to kill odysseus now, more than ever?

honestly peering through the vengence saga and SPOILERS but the idea of poseidon coming back can be either deeply sinister or deeply hilarious depending on if you choose to go with the interpretation of the original myth where he was absent during athena's plea bc he was vacationing in ethiopia and is now coming back to the worst welcome back party ever (re: getting stabbed several times in the chest by that One Asshole he thought he was done with) or that he WAS present during athena's plea and purposefully chose not to say anything because he was waiting for odysseus to come within reach of ithaca, which does seem to be implied by the first bit of lyrics in get in the water "I've been waiting for this moment/.../When your home's so close and you've reached your coast/that's when our paths collide" but ough,,,,

sometimes I run into discourse about The Odyssey vs. EPIC: The Musical and I get tired
this is why I think we need to start taking a more oral tradition approach to stories like the Odyssey tbh, and I'd argue stories in general
The original and the adaptation being different, or the characters being different, doesn't make one or the other Wrong.
EPIC isn't claiming to be a direct retelling of the Odyssey, and the Odyssey doesn't need to be put under a moral microscope just to prove that "Odysseus was a Bad Guy Actually i can't believe you like EPIC" or "The Actual moral of everything is This."
Analysis is good, but we don't have to do it to spite other people's enjoyment of a piece of art!
One of the most beautiful things about many oral traditions is that the story changes over time. It grows to fit the ideas and needs of the people it's being told to and the place it's being told in. Each storyteller remembers different details more vividly, or adds a little flair, or forgets a few words, or adds a few words, and it grows.
EPIC doesn't have to be the Odyssey, and the Odyssey doesn't have to be EPIC. Enjoy them both. Adaptations and spins off of stories aren't a bad thing in themselves, even if they're different.
Heck, the Odyssey was almost Definitely an adaptation, conglomeration, or re-telling of other stories that were told orally before it was written down. And I'd bet that it continued to evolve and change even after it was put to paper. I highly doubt The Odyssey the only version of this story there was, long before our time.
It's fine if you dislike one or the other in any adaptation! Hell knows I've absolutely despised some adaptations of media i enjoyed in the past. That's not a bad thing. But one story isn't objectively morally better or worse compared to another in adaptations.
Basically, my whole point is that both the Odyssey and EPIC are Great to me personally, but they aren't completely the same thing and that's what makes them great.
And I think people maybe need to be ok with that!

****Vengeance Saga Spoilers******
Im probably not the first one to notice this but an absolutely devastating detail at the beginning of Dangerous is when Odysseus is singing
“600 Deaths under my command,
Cus I had one goal in mind..”
And then there’s a pause because he has no crew left to sing the backing vocals “make it back alive to our homeland”
Anyways this crushed me while I was relistening so enjoy

Was I right about Vengeance Saga on Halloween or was I right WHOO apparently the folks in the discord were hypothesizing it too, but I'm not on there. It crosses over into Day of the Dead in Mexico too, which kinda fits Ody. How'd you like that trailer? :D
