This chapter actually stuck to my projected length! Probably because Logan is a little less wordy than Wade, lbr. I have a couple of really fun little tidbits in this chapter I enjoy a lot, and I hope y'all do too.

Tegan wanting to get back to Heathrow is kind of odd, it's like someone went "characters should want something, they should have A Quest" and hers is making it on time to a flight she is no longer prepared for and LBR it'd be weird for her to just get on that plane straight from Deva Loka or the Great Fire of London or wherever. "Hey Tegan, you look a bit tired, everything okay?" "Yeah, just got possessed by a snake thing on another planet. The things that lurk in the dark corners of the mind, you know how it is."

Maybe she's just fixated on that as some sort of trauma response? "Aunt Vanessa is dead and I've been sort of kidnapped by an alien and turns out that time-travel is a thing... but everything will be fine if I can just make it on time for my first shift. I need to get to Heathrow, that will fix everything. Somehow."

And then she gets there and oh no abandoned and she has to come back the next season with new hair and new clothes. Because by this time her fixation has rubbed off on the Doctor and he too is clinging to the idea that Tegan Will Be Fine As Long As I Get Her Back To Heathrow.

was reading this article about cobra kai having a problem with female characters (true) but the way it described sam and tory was very not-how-i-read-their-dynamic-at-all?

first mistake actually was describing jessica andrews under the header of "all girls in the OG karate kid franchise are love interests and/or damsels" which dilutes their point a bit, because someone can go in and "well akshully...!" While she is a good character to bring back and give depth, because there isn't that much to her in tkk3 (but there is a lot to potentially play with), she's refreshingly not a love interest or a damsel (due to ralph)

I also can't speak much to how the writer described the next karate kid, I still need to watch it (the time, I think, has come), but there is something weirdly... backhanded about it... yes, I know it was kind of a cashgrab and pat morita wanted it to end and it's not good, but the description of julie pierce makes me 🤔 your focus on her role within it feels sexist

with tory and sam it claims that they're not going anywhere/just rehashing the same fight over boys over and over without any depth at all in season 4 and I strongly disagree on that front too

I was so into the tory and sam narrative in season 4, precisely because I see it constantly moving away from boys and into more complicated spaces of class and trauma and "guess we're obsessed with each other forever" vibes a la the OG karate rivals daniel and johnny

I actually think their dynamic is the most direct successor to that (with the obvious stumbles) - the boys barely factor into their emotional narrative anymore (sam a bit more with miguel, but her intensity is reserved for tory lbr), the same way ali faded into the background of the rivalry in tkk1

also the article claimed that tory's background has grown boring, and again I'm... hmmmm, because that's what draws kreese to her, that's the core of her problems, that could be a hold that silver has over her, why she bonded with robby and miguel, why both sam and amanda have more work to do on themselves in how they interact with her, 95% of amanda's narrative in s4, and I'd argue not given enough depth in previous seasons? it's good that it's given more focus in s4!

the real problem is allowing other female characters the same depth (named in the background now we have amanda, carmen, rosa, devon, piper, moon, yasmin, (aisha kind of), lucille, shannon, EDIT: forgot lynn and vanessa in my earlier post - also laura, kumiko, yuna, ali in their own way -- it's not like the characters aren't there) + bringing back characters from the past with the same fervour as the writing for terry and kreese (and maybe chozen, we'll see in s5!!)

anyway, I feel like there's some sexism inherent in the writing of that article, because it refuses to see sam and tory (and julie and jessica) on the terms they were actually written, warts and all, and itself claims them to be simply either girls who are "too love interesty" or girls who are trying too hard to "take on boys stories" or both

the "girls can't win narratively" is strong here...

I’m done with Riverdale.

I gave Riverdale and the writers of this show so many chances to fix their shit. I gave them so many chances to write better storylines, to stop with the repetitive shit, to stop writing the same boring couples every single season, to stop with the character assassination, to stop with the fan service, to try different relationships and refreshing dynamics, to stop destroying characters/couples for the sake of other characters/couples, etc. And the show just continues to let me down over and over and over again. Last night’s episode was the worst episode in Riverdale history. Relationships were destroyed left and right, characters were assassinated and written out of character. Archie was completely OOC in last night’s episode. He was a complete fucking asshole and prick. Archie in no way looked like the hero and protagonist of Riverdale. He didn’t live up to the values, ideals and standards that he claims to have. Instead, he came off as an unsympathetic, emotionless, disgusting, cheating, fickle piece of garbage douchebag. Archie Andrews is no fucking hero and the writers completely destroyed his character within 45 minutes and a single episode. He is irredeemable from my point of view and his character is beyond repair at this point. There is nothing that can fix that mess of a character. His treatment of women in general is disgusting and misogynistic. The way he treated Betty in 5x08 was absolutely abhorrent, degrading and despicable. He acted like he had zero emotions or feelings for her and that he just used her for sex. He then dumps her and runs back to the same toxic relationship with Veronica. Even after seven years, Archie hasn’t changed or grown at all.He’s still the same stupid and immature punk that he was in high school. FUCK ARCHIE ANDREWS. He’s THE WORST main character, lead, and protagonist I’ve ever seen on any show. Not even Elena Gilbert from TVD or Lucas Scott from OTH is as horrible or badly written as he is. Archie is much more of a villain than a hero. There’s nothing that the writers can do to make Archie a good character again. His character is beyond reproach and they should be ashamed to have a piece of shit like Archie leading their show. Veronica is acting like a thirsty, desperate, trampy whore throwing herself at another man while she’s still married and the ink hasn’t even dried on her divorce papers. She has revealed herself to be an extremely controlling, domineering, conniving, money hungry and manipulative bitch. She is so fucking detestable and unlikeable. I can’t root for her character. I actually HATE Veronica now and I never thought I would say that. The writers completely butchered her character just as badly as Archie’s. It’s evident that after five seasons, the writers don’t know what the fuck to do with her character but have her be Hiram’s chew toy or having her constantly chasing after Archie like some pathetic desperate hussy. She’s become the worst character on the show and she has had zero character development. All of her storylines are the same: they either revolve around her father or around men in general. Veronica is a shallow character that lacks complexity and depth. She is nothing more than Hiram Lodge with lipstick and a skirt/dress. As someone who is Latina, Veronica is a horrible representation of Latina and hispanic women in media. Veronica Lodge is an absolute embarrassment to the Hispanic and Latinx community and I’m ashamed of her character at this point. She doesn’t represent me and I don’t want her kind of character to represent my community. RAS and the writers clearly hate Camila Mendes. I can’t say that Camila’s acting is helping matters either. Betty is an emotionally unstable, whiny, pathetic doormat for Archie and a complete fucking emotional mess. She was nothing but a sex toy/booty call for Archie so that he could get his rocks off. As soon as the sex wore off, Archie and no problem with dumping her and throwing her away ;ike a dirty tissue. And Betty didn’t fight for herself. She didn’t fight for her feelings. She didn’t stand up to Archie for disrespecting her like that and using her. Archie used her for pleasure and than acted as if she were nothing to him. And Betty just fucking took it?? Why doesn't Betty just stand up for herself for once? Why doesn’t she stop being such a doormat for him and letting Archie stomp on her feelings all the time? Does she have no self respect? The one thing that makes Betty’s character somewhat salvageble is the fact that Lili Reinhart is an amazing fucking actress and for that, you can’t help but feel sympathy for her even if she’s being written as a pathetic doormat and Archie’s sex toy. Chad is a narcissistic, abusive POS who is Hiram 2.0. What was the purpose of his character on the show? Just to cause some tension between Varchie? What a waste of an actor and character. Jughead is a pathetic drunk and a lazy bum with no purpose. His sole reason for existing is to get drunk every episode, get abducted by aliens and be saved by girls. The writers are ruining my fave character on the show. Kevin is a cheating piece of shit. He has no clue what monogamy is or what a real relationship stands for and means. He’s nothing more than a walking and talking negative gay stereotype. Reggie was completely destroyed this season. They had him turn on his friends and side with Hiram, the town bully. Reggie is a complete douche and any character development he had in the earlier seasons has vanished. The writers butchered his character horribly and it’s a shame because Charles Melton is a decent dude and actor who deserves a better storyline and material. Cheryl is a sociopath with no remorse for her horrible behaviour and she treats Toni like garbage. I don’t know how Toni can stand being with her or around her. She doesn’t give a shit who she hurts in the process as long as she is creating chaos for her own amusement. Cheryl is a horrible person and the fact that she has had no development for hasn’t changed makes things worse. Also, it’s evident that Madeleine Petsch (along with the rest of the cast, LBR), is completely phoning it in all season. Her acting is terrible and cringeworthy. At this point, Cheryl is so awful and toxic that I don't think I want her to be with Toni or for Choni to reunite in the future. Toni deserves better than this red haired creature. Toni is, once again and as usual, being sidelined. I expected this to happen sooner than later. I figured that Toni would be relegated to a support character once more or to go back to being Cheryl’s punching bag. Though Toni being sidelined isn’t really her fault or the writers fault because Vanessa is on maternity leave. As if the characters haven't been destroyed, the relationships have been slaughtered and decimated left and right. Choni is toxic as fuck. Barchie was made out to be nothing of substance but sex (plus the way they got together is sickening including the cheating and the FWB plot line which amounted to nothing in the end). Bughead is an awkward repetitive and annoying bore with no chemistry. Varchie is the worst couple on the show, toxic as hell with no chemistry and takes up too much screen time. Kangs was destroyed for absolutely no reason. The only couple that has potential to be something great and substantial is Jabitha but considering the writers track record, I expect them to ruin them for Bughead. It’s only a matter of time. Tick tock. ⏰ To top it all off, the storylines are absolutely fucking ridiculous this season. Archie with his stupid overblown hero complex trying to save Riverdale? BORING. Hiram being the same boring villain AGAIN and trying to take down the same group of teenagers he was harassing seven years ago? REPETITIVE. The Mothman/Aliens storyline? We’re dealing with fucking ALIENS??? Aliens of all things? What the actual fuck are the writers smoking?! Then there’s the whole Polly storyline which is boring and repetitive.. Try something different for fucks sake. I’m not gonna get into the whole TBK nonsense which also reeks of repetitive storytelling. There's way too many plot lines and storylines being told and it’s a jumbled, incoherent mess. There’s only so much nonsense that you can take before you finally snap and say enough is enough. I’m at that point. For me to cut something or someone out of my life for good, it’s got to be something or someone really horrible. Riverdale is one of those things. Riverdale has made my viewing and fandom experience absolutely fucking miserable. It’s caused me significant upset and emotional distress because of how attached I was to these characters and relationships. Now it seems like it was all a waste. What was the point? Why did I stick around to watch the characters and the relationships on this show get butchered? The writers don’t know what the fuck they are doing. They continue to be stuck in the same rut and a time jump hasn’t fixed that. I’M DONE. There’s no more chances. The show is dead to me as are the Riverdale cast and the writers. The show should just end this season. Season 6 should either be cancelled or shortened to 10 episodes. Stop wasting the audience’s time with this garbage.

But in your opinion, which ships in the love square (ladynoir, adrienette, marichat and ladrien) correlate to the ships in Gossip Girl? Like which ship in GG reminds u of Marichat, for example? I know I know that all the ships in the love square are constituted by the same two people and that in reality it is not four relationships it is just one but to me they all are very different from each other so I do think it is fair to make different connections with each ship despite it being constituted by the same 2 characters.

Okay so like A) both of your asks made sense! I get exactly where you’re at (I hope, lol—feel free to send another if I answer this wrong)

B) I was kind of treating the love square as a whole as being derena-esque—lots of silly dramatics and confusion about feelings coupled with very strong partnership and compatibility underneath

C) You’re so very right about the love square having, realistically, multiple different dynamics. And they do have different ship energies! So:

Adrinette: actually the derena ship, lol—not that derena are them, but they are derena. Dan’s pre-series pining has big Marinette energy. (Dan in general has big Marinette energy, lbr.) Of course, Adrien “teen model” Agreste also has parallels to Serena “you realize that a manic pixie dream girl would have deep psychological problems” van der Woodsen.

Marichat: date! The utter lack of infatuation but the fact that they actually know each other and are totally head over heels without realizing—that’s the date besties nonsense!

Ladynoir: blairena. Blairena is in the deep knowledge of another person, in trusting them to have your back, in wounding them because you have no idea how to say they hurt you, in watching them go through their worst and desperately trying to save them, in being unable to just admit the truth to them—

I'm sure Nicola's reaction to the trashy behaviour Camila, Lili, Vanessa and Clara (but especially Camila and Lili) subjected everyone at the wedding to was very different from "hot girls having fun uwu!" It was her day, and those dumb women tainted it. They should go to literally any Hollywood party and get as high and drunk as they please but this embarrassing behaviour at a wedding is a big no.

Ooh, on the topic of dad!Dan and cute kidfic, which of the main GG characters do you think would want to have kids, and of the characters that did have kids, what kind of parents would they be? Dan is the one character actually who I feel like would definitely want kids, he’s just so... nurturing, I guess? Like he’s the mom friend of the group despite being kind of a human disaster lol. Whereas with Serena I’m not so sure that she’d want kids at all. Curious what your headcanons are!!

Dan and Blair both feel like characters who want to be parents. This is probably not a super common opinion, but I feel like Blair’s pregnancy and everything pertaining to it, miscarriage aside, was not handled very convincingly by the show. There was just too much going on, and I wasn’t really a fan of the way it was portrayed, but I don’t know how to explain that better. Like it wasn’t ~bad~ or ~problematic~, it just didn’t convince me. I just didn’t get the Blair Wants To Be A Mother vibe from her (which I think makes sense, given everything else she was going through at the time, but like - even then? it fell a little flat to me personally.) 

That said, Blair as a character does feel like she would like having children, but during a time in her life when things are more settled. She would want to provide her kids the sort of stability that she and her friends never grew up with, and she would love them with all her heart. I think she would do her best not to repeat what her mother did to her, and she would be gentle and kind with her children in ways she never was with, say, the girls at Constance who she belittled to tears for daring to wear tights instead of leggings. The way Blair takes care of Serena when Serena’s wasted and making unhealthy decisions? That patience and unwavering support? I think Blair would give her kids all that. 

And Dan, of course. We’ve been over dad!Dan so much, I don’t know what is there to say that hasn’t already been said :’) 

Nate and Vanessa both feel relatively neutral on the topic. Like, it depends on their partner. If they were with someone who wanted kids, they would be like “sure!”, but I don’t think they would be those people who absolutely want children, and would be just as content if their partner didn’t want any kids and they ended up adopting cats/dogs or even just living alone with their person. I don’t think either of them are super particular. 

But I think Nate would sway more towards wanting kids - we see how much love and loyalty he has for family, even though his family on the show is really shitty. What I want for Nate is a family of his own, and I think Nate would be such a good parent. Me wanting Nate to be a dad doesn’t necessarily equal to Nate wanting to be a dad, though. The way I characterise him, I really think it’s a 50/50 chance either way. 

Vanessa, on the other hand, I feel would sway towards not really wanting kids unless her partner does (or if she got pregnant, I feel like she wouldn’t abort - V would definitely be pro-choice, duh, but I think she would choose to keep a child? I don’t know how to explain this, but I have strong feelings.) I feel like Vanessa’s dream life is very ‘travel the world making documentaries’ and I think she would be very dedicated to her work and to creating art in a way that is super full-time. But when Milo was around, Vanessa was so taken by him and so fascinated - I think Vanessa would like kids of her own? But I don’t think she’s planning for them or anything.

I agree about Serena - I think she wouldn’t want children of her own. She would love being the godmother and would spoil the Dair children (? Date children? Blairnessa children? well. whatever. whomsoever’s children) and she would 100% be the cool aunt, everyone’s kids would love her and she would love all of them, but she wouldn’t want to be a parent and have kids for her own. It’s just not for her.

I don’t think Jenny would want kids of her own. But I don’t think she’d be super opposed, either. A lot like Nate & Vanessa, but not entirely unbiased. I feel Jenny would be one of those people who’s like “I don’t think I ever want kids of my own” and then she sees her girlfriend holding a baby in her arms and talking in a quiet voice to the baby and she’s like “Hmmm. Maybe. Just maybe.” (which is not to say everyone is like this. A lot of people who do not want kids will never want kids, and that’s obviously totally valid. Just putting this disclaimer so that it doesn’t get misunderstood.) 

I do think Eric would want kids, but I think once he’s older (in his 30s). And I think he would want to adopt / foster a teenager, or something like that - he’d want to adopt one of those kids who don’t usually find homes through the foster system. I can see him adopting an LGBTQ+ kid, or a disabled kid, or a kid with a lot of trauma - I actually see him as a proper foster parent, who’d foster slightly older teenagers (15-17.) I don’t really see Eric as someone who would want to raise babies, toddlers or smaller children, but I can imagine it’d be fulfilling for him personally to be a parental figure for teenagers who feel as alone as he once did, and....... come to think of it, actually, I think Eric would prefer being a foster parent. I think he’d really like that.

Now for Chippy Wisk, whom I was gonna skip because most people on my blog do not care about him, but I just felt like I couldn’t skip him. I don’t think Chuck would want kids for the sake of having kids - if he did it’d be for his ~reputation~ in the business world, for seeming dignified, etc. And honestly, looking at canon and the number of times he prioritises his business above all else, even Blair - I think if he did have children, he would not spend time with them, and I just don’t see him being a good parent at all (6x10 finale is a fever dream, y’all.) He feels very much like the sort of parent who destroys a child’s favourite toy and makes them watch him do that just to teach them a lesson. I know it probably sounds like I’m being biased, but nah. a few reminders about my muses:

anna cannot have kids, physically. any kids would have to be heavily plotted and would not be her biological kids.

bucky is also infertile. this is a hard limit for me. he cannot make babies.

steve can have babies, but he does not want them. he doesn’t think his life is right for kids. he used to kind of want a family, but that was because he thought it was what he was supposed to want.

shuri has no desire to be a mother. she wants to be a scientist. and a good black panther. but not a mother.

okoye does want chidlren, but lbr, she’s mad as fuck at w’kabi still.

sam wants a family, very much so. he loves his nephews. his only real reservations are that he’s now captain america and that could be hard on kids.

helmut had a family. he doesn’t want another one. ever.

red skull has a daughter. but please do not ask me to have him make other children. the idea makes my fucking skin crawl. just. no.

tony has reservations about being a dad. he wants kids, wants to be a good dad, but it makes him nervous, too. and yes, morgan will be a thing for anyone who writes morgan.

fitz wants ALL THE CHILDREN. even if his child annoyed the fuck out of him in the future.

homelander does have a son. homelander will not be having any other children. full stop. he’s a terrible person. just no way, no how.

I think both things might not have to be mutually exclusive. If he doesn’t know and finds out like that I would like him to cry. They hold each other and fall asleep. The next morning he apologizes for his break down and tells her how strong she is and does what you said and that’s how he treats her scars every time from then on.

when clio and hooked up, she’s pretty sure neither of them had intentions of dating. but then they ran into each other the next day again and started talking, exchanged numbers, and well it just sort of happened. danny was still semi-fresh off the breakup with vanessa and lbr, clio’s never one to turn down any type of attention. plus it was nice, having a boyfriend again. and at the start things really were good. clio was on her best behavior and only somewhat of a bitch.

they’ve yet to celebrate any major holiday together that requires gift giving, but clio already knows exactly what she’s going to get him for his birthday and christmas - if they’re still together at the time. one of her followers on her stan twitter makes custom patches and she plans on ordering some of his favorite comic book characters, a ghost, and the logo of his show. she thought about getting a jacket too for him to put them all on but thought that might be embarrassing so she’s go to “suggest” he iron them onto like a bookbag or something.

every time they fight clio half expects it to be the end. for danny to say enough and break up with her. she knows they aren’t in love with each other and likely never will be, so there’s no way this is going to last forever. an end is eventually coming and she’s aware of that. but yet - they’re still going. they fight and make up (or more accurately hook up and just let the topic drop). the logical side of her tells her this isn’t very healthy - that she shouldn’t be with someone she argues with, doesn’t love, and knows isn’t going anywhere. but clio does like danny despite it all and she likes being in a relationship. so the breakup is never going to be on her end.

A head canon:  in the sunday morning photographs verse, vanessa painted a very risque painting of nik and then hung it up in the dining hall of her school while everyone slept away the night . the next day, all the girls in the hall were standing around the painting, giggling, wondering who had painted it since they’d never met Nik and so couldn’t determine it was vanessa . the dean interrogated all the girls to find out who the culprit was but never found out .

Yeah I feel like it’s going over some people’s heads that deadpool 2 was making fun of the lazy writing behind fridging, and by extension teasing the mcu for how they fridge characters. Plus, lbr, Vanessa is gonna become copycat. I will be surprised if her death doesn’t lead to her somehow becoming copycat in some convoluted way that deadpool will make fun of to the fourth wall.

I really, really hope they do that for the next one.I’ll be honest, they had me too, in that scene where Wade comes home and you hear the noises and you immediately know how that scene is gonna go and I was like: Don’t tell me you’re going to pull this shit in a Deadpool movie on me??

The scene is so well-made though because it starts with Wade coming home late for their anniversary and she’s sitting there in this typical disgruntled girlfriend pose and then just cracks up and kisses and hugs him. That’s why I love her relationship with Wade so much, because it’s really just...so authentic for a movie relationship. They’re fun together, they like each other, they don’t have unnecessary drama. You can actually seem them as a couple. And also this entire scene starts with a parody of the superhero-movie-relationship trope. So when the whole thing starts and ticks all the boxes for a fridging-scene, it really becomes very obvious that it’s a parody.

I love that they still found ways to make it meaningful. Instead of making a movie about Wade finding Vanessa’s killers they settle that super-quickly and make it about him allowing himself to care again and to forgive himself and to protect the living and to appreciate the found family he has. Which is also mirrored in Cable’s story which is cool af.

And also you got the storyline about Russel and the director and it really fits that same theme: They’re straightfoward about it that the director is the bad guy here, but instead of saying: Killing people is bad!- the lesson is that yeah, the guy deserves to die but protecting yourself from the damage it does to you to make your whole life about getting back at the people who hurt you is more important than seeing that done. -- And once again this is mirrored in the storyline about Wade overcoming his suicidal tendencies. And in the end it’s the friendships he made/re-made that are the reason he gets Vanessa back. Not killing himself.

I mean, they went all out parodying the MCU in that one, from the straight forward ones like the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye and Thanos-jokes down to playing Thunderstruck and The Pina Colada Song and also made a lot of fun of the XMCU (and the DCU) but what I like the most is that it’s still a good movie on its own and in the end, what they said in the first scene it’s true. It’s about (found) family.
