ottawa evacuating canadian citizens from Lebanon while also not outright calling for israel to stop bombing the country is...something
like, we know that our government doesn't care about the lives of people in SWANA but the audacity to tell canadians to "get out now" while not addressing the Lebanese and Palestinian people being murdered by israel really proves it. their problem isn't mass murder and carpet bombing, it's the potential for canadian citizens to get caught in the crossfire
they really only value the lives of other westerners and it's not surprising but it is horrible

The original Star Wars film, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, has been translated into over 50 languages. Norwegian, French, Icelandic, Navajo — and now Ojibway. Dennis Daminos Chartrand, a member of Pine Creek First Nation who voices Darth Vader in the film and helped translate the original text, says he hopes having his language incorporated into the "iconic" film will promote it — not just within his community, but beyond. Chartrand spoke with Day 6 host Brent Bambury ahead of the film's release on the national Indigenous broadcast channel APTN next month, and just days after the death of original Darth Vader actor James Earl Jones. He spoke about his hopes for the film, challenges translating the story into Ojibway and why Star Wars resonates so much with him as an Indigenous person. Here is part of their conversation.

Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada: Niagara Falls is a group of three waterfalls at the southern end of Niagara Gorge, spanning the border between the province of Ontario in Canada and the state of New York in the United States. The largest of the three is Horseshoe Falls, which straddles the international border of the two countries. It is also known as the Canadian Falls. The smaller American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls lie within the United States. Wikipedia

Wildlife researchers are optimistic for the future of the critically endangered Vancouver Island marmot species, after they counted a record 86 wild-born pups this summer. The Vancouver Island marmot, which is endemic to its namesake, is one of the country's most endangered species. The Marmot Recovery Foundation estimates there were fewer than 30 in the wild about 20 years ago. Recently, however, their numbers have started to tick up, with nearly 60 pups born last year. Adam Taylor, the foundation's executive director, estimates there are now more than 300 wild Vancouver Island marmots. And he attributed the rising pup population to favourable weather for breeding in the wild.

I'll share more on this on September 30th, but I just thought I'd share this here. This is for Canada but the issues the speakers bring up are relevant to the United States as well, perhaps more so because Canada at least pretends to be 'nice' about it (which is fallacy but even so...).
Tagging: @decolonize-the-everything and @nickysfacts in the hope this reaches more people and cause I think they'd appreciate the observations the speakers make, I am not Indigenous and I do not presume to speak for them, please kindly don't take this post out of context, dear people of the internet.
