my campaign hiatus has gone on for too long so to cope ive combined my interests at their maximum potency and had some dnd-strawhats thoughts

thoughts in depth under read more... :)!

this is SO self indulgent. their designs literally did not change. but i am a firm believer that dnd doesnt have to be european high fantasy. and also one piece literally IS fantasy. no changes are necessary to fit into dnd. ive already imagined plenty of campaign/oneshot ideas inspired by one piece. so this was basically just an exercise of trying to replicate their canon abilities in dnd 5e as much as possible without totally homebrewing everything. well. aside from luffy. you just cant take away or change his stretching.

LUFFY: (human monk. drunken master subclass. outlander)

the only plain human of the crew to balance out with the fact that he still has rubber powers. obviously a monk. but drunken master subclass specifically because i think the flavor(not the fact that its about being a drunkard) and abilities both fit him really well. this line in the subclass' flavortext especially fits him: "A drunken master often enjoys playing the fool to bring gladness to the despondent or to demonstrate humility to the arrogant, but when battle is joined, the drunken master can be a maddening, masterful foe."

ZORO: (tiefling fighter. samurai subclass. bounty hunter)

a fighter with the samurai subclass is so very incredibly obvious... but i actually had a lot of fun geeking out while comparing the abilities to what he can do in canon; Fighting Spirit, Rapid Strike, and Strength Before Death especially! tiefling is also pretty on the nose for his demon pirate hunter shtick and asura form, but i thought he'd be really human-passing for a tiefling and theorized about his tail getting cut off at some point or another before joining the strawhats. initially wasnt gonna give him a feat, but i gave sanji a feat so i thought itd be unfair to not give him one as well, so sentinel fits the bill pretty well i think!

NAMI: (tabaxi rogue. arcane trickster subclass. criminal)

cat burglar -> full grown literal humanoid cat. this one is INCREDIBLY self indulgent... i love... cats... theres nothing deeper to this and no other reasoning. i took cat burglar and ran with it. can you tell that i love izutsumi dungeon meshi? rogue for the aforementioned burglar-ing as well, and the arcane trickster subclass for when she picks up climatact! the mage hand will be very useful for her pickpocketing. in the future as she levels up with timeskip, i can totally see her multiclassing into wizard as well! weather wizard!

USOPP: (lightfoot halfling artificer. artillerist subclass. urchin)

I HAD SO MUCH FUN THINKING ABOUT HIS CHARACTER SHEET. halfling's Naturally Stealthy ability lets him hide behind his crewmates since theyre (almost) all bigger than him, so its perfect for hiding behind zoro or sanji all the time. Lucky is also perfect for him, and I think Brave fits pretty well too when he puts on the sogeking mask. artillerist artificer is also very fun! tinkering and making magic items for his crew, and i think Eldritch Canon or Arcane Firearm could both be easily reflavored as kabuto or any of his inventions. for emphasizing his sniper-ness, the spell sniper feat was also necessary. i think hes my favorite of all the concepts. big ears and long nose combo is so cute to me.

SANJI: (half-elf monk. drunken master subclass. guild artisan (cook!))

race was mostly based on vibes i wont lie. squints. and that vinsmoke balogna or whatever too ig. but mostly vibes. along with the idea that i think a dwarf zeff raising him would be really funny and cute. monk is also obvious, and same subclass as luffy for mostly the same reasons. though the flavor fits him much less, i think the abilities still fit him perfectly, and this blurb specifically; "Your martial arts technique mixes combat training with the precision of a dancer." i really wanted to give him a different subclass from luffy, but i dislike all the other monk subclasses a lot and i found none of them fit him as well anyways, so to try and give them SOME differences, i gave him the crusher feat.

CHOPPER: (awakened deer(shifter statblock) cleric. life subclass. hermit)

this ones definitely a mouthful im sorry. awakened deer for obvious reasons, but due to magic instead of devil fruit stuff. when i was struggling with his race, i looked a lot at shifter because of his forms, but it occurred to me that itd be super cool if he could shift between all of the different shifter options instead of being stuck with just one to replicate his rumble balls. something like heavy point/guard point=beasthide, horn point/arm point(?maybe?)=longtooth, walk point/jumping point=swiftstride, and brain point=wildhunt. hed definitely need some kind of nerf though to balance out that homebrew... and cleric for class. duh.

ROBIN: (high elf wizard. order of scribes subclass. criminal)

robin is definitely the one i struggled the most with just because of her class. elf came pretty easily- shes very elegant and i think shed look cute with super long ears- and i landed on high elf instead of wood elf for the int-based abilities. i was really on the fence between sorcerer and wizard for her because i knew shed be a full spellcaster, but i didnt feel that any of the subclasses really fit her. i ended up going with wizard for order of the scribes since it focuses on texts and knowing everything. but also because robin with a flying talking sentient book would be crazy cool. it could also be similar to how she spawns mouths and eyes places to talk to or watch people. my "fuck it, why not. this would be rad. its my house" mindset kicked in with her i will admit. also the One with the Word ability made me cackle out loud when i read it. thats the funniest ability ever. anyways, i cant really think of a way to replicate her powers, but maybe we could just reflavor a bunch of spells to be her limbs or clutch; hold person, maximillian's earthen grasp, or evard's black tentacles. thatd probably work okay, and theres a handful of spells to replicate her ability to spawn eyes or mouths. unrelated, but i imagine nico olvia to be a drow. why? her hair is white. i am a simple man!

Jiyan ☄. *. ⋆

You managing to sneak up on the General is a surprise for you both. The ice cubes in your hand were starting to melt, and one water droplet after another fell from your palm down onto the grass. You could barely contain your giggles escaping from your throat, and the smile across your face was big enough to light up a whole village. Finally standing close enough behind him, entirely ignoring the fact that he was talking to somebody, watching the riverside festival activities. 

Finally walking up close enough, you stand behind him, and hold the cold and wet ice cubes against his tacet mark. The freezing cold felt like a shockwave to Jiyan, leading him to turn around and grab ahold of your wrist faster than you can blink. You jumped, before noticing the fierce look on his face.

Which only lasted a second, before his eyebrows moved up and a surprised yet confused expression made its way on his face instead. 

“y/n…? what-”, you burst into laughter before Jiyan can even finish his sentence. 

Anyone standing by could have sworn they saw a tear rolling down your face from laughing too hard. Jiyan on the other hand, took the ice cubes from your hand which he was still holding, and held them against your neck. 

You screeched a little, and stumbled back. And even if you fell, Jiyan would have been fast enough to catch you. 

Rover (male) ☄. *. ⋆ Rover was just sitting there, playing around with his terminal. The perfect victim for your upcoming ice cube attack! You sneaked up on him, with slow and careful steps, and slowly melting ice cubes in your hand. 

When you were standing right behind him, you quickly pulled back his shirt, and dropped the cubes against his back. In response, Rover shuddered and jumped up, feeling his back. 

While you were giggling like a little child, he turned around to look at you, while shaking the ice cubes out his shirt again. 

“I knew it was you, I just wanted to know why you were sneaking up on me”, the sweet smile on his face almost made up for his lack of a reaction.

“What do you mean you knew it was me!”, your fists dug into your hips, and Rover gave you a pat on the head. 

“Do you really think I couldn’t hear you giggle?”, the sly guy in front of you was still smiling at you for purposely making you fail your mission of scaring him. 

“Maaannn, I gave my best and you still couldn’t be pranked”, you looked at the floor, fake pouting. 

An unexpected kiss landed on your forehead. “I hope this makes it up to you”

Jinhsi ☄. *. ⋆

Jinhsi was more than just unassuming. She was way too focused on the game of checkers she was playing with Changli, how could she have possibly noticed your quiet steps? Changli saw you silently enter the room, but remained quiet and unbothered, after you laid a finger onto your lips, signaling her to keep quiet. 

One foot in front of the other, you slowly and silently walked up to the focused girl in front of you. Finally, when she was only half an arm length away, you placed your cold, ice cube filled hand against her back. 

Jinhsi’s first response was to jump out of her seat with a yelp. When she heard your laugh, she turned around, confused and with goosebumps. Even Changli chuckled. 

When she saw you laughing your heart out, she had to smile. If it was for your happiness she would have let herself get pranked over and over again. 

“You should have seen your own reaction Hsi”, you laughed with gasps for air between your words. 

Without a response she hugged you, leaving you utterly confused. Until she put her naturally cold hands up your shirt, and you couldn’t even jump because you were trapped in her hug. 

“Hsi your hands are ice cold!”, you wanted to push her away, but you couldn’t. Her hugs were the best (ily Jinhsi) 

“Got you back!”, Jinhsi chuckled. (Sly mf)

I have a complicated relationship with zosan. On one hand, I find making Sanji out to be a deeeeeeeeply pathetic, repressed homosexual that's deeply in love with the guy he's been constantly picking fights with to be a very cathartic experience. I can even find him compelling through that lens, since he is very important whenever the story explores themes of insecurity or gender norms. The actual story explores insecurity very thoroughly in a really compelling way, whole cake island rules, but gender norms only subtly and very incompletely.

So using him as a character to pick up the thread that's there and improve and deepen it is a fun game. I simply love Zoro, and I think he is very gay, and it's fun to see him in any situation. Zosan was the first and easiest ship reading for me.

I've come to suspect that's a lot of people's experiences. It's almost like a starter ship. Once you explore literally any other Strawhat dynamic through a queer lens though, it is so over for you. They are all so compelling and generally a lot more so than these two together monogamously.

Usopp especially is wildly interesting for both insecurity and gender norms, way more than Sanji, and as soon as you bring him into the mix you really can't go back.

Zosan does irritate me with it's popularity and the endless boring versions of it out there. It does feel like sticking the most conventionally attractive guys in the show together to project the same damn dynamic onto and calling it a day. Which is a shame! Because they can be interesting!

I do especially get annoyed with it when people seem more interested in only paying attention to them and never the female characters or Usopp. Humongous side-eye. Or like, not exploring the whole polycule of strawhat dynamics in favor of acting like one single pair of them is more specially connected than any of the rest. That is simply not true, and I do not appreciate it. They are all obsessed with each other. Go find two other cardboard cutouts to project your yaoi fantasies on I'm trying to have a good time.

Oh wait my screenshot. HA. So yes all that. I feel all that. But I also did stop and go omg. the first time they said their insult nicknames....<333333333

do you think volo would survive the reapers game

my knee jerk reaction is to say yes absolutely he’s so good at playing nice with his partner and legitimately working together to solve puzzles and fight noise. all the while thinking like joshua that like ‘we’re not here to make friends my partner is competition too in the end it’s gonna be me or them’ but like he’s smart enough to know he needs them

but i do think a realistic way for him to lose is to jump the gun and betray his partner too fast… like. the whole shtick at the temple of sinnoh is crazy to me bc the protag absolutely heard him muttering about summoning giratina who wants to fight arceus, and about wanting to create a better world, etc. like the protag has to be a total idiot or they’re full on crazy enough to absolutely go along with his plans. so like what i’m saying is he didn’t even have to turn on them and be evil he could’ve just kept acting like he was being normal and cool and strung them along until it was too late to know what was going on. or just like. laid out his plans and openly convinced them to be insane too. to work as true partners. so there could be a similar situation in the reaper’s game where he’s so close to winning the game (whether fairly or unfairly) but he just has to break out the dramatic villain laugh too early and then promptly get the floor wiped with him. he throws it all away for nothing

Seizing an opportunity she never would have had on the Somniel, she quickly throws her arms around her and gives her a hug. Just a short one! Obviously, she doesn't want to be weird or scare the Maiden That Isn't Her Maiden.

"Hey, here, I got you this!" The cupcake even comes in a cute little box with a window, so it was all nice and safe but you could still get a look at how cute it was! There was even a tiny little candy bird sitting on top of the light blue icing. "I didn't make it myself, obviously. It wouldn't be half as good if I tried to make it, but..."

She holds it out for her to take with a grin. "Hope you like it!"

Micaiah is always glad to meet others on her walks, any day, of course, but especially on a day like this that can only happen at a place like Garreg Mach; for it to be Yunaka, is even more unique. Had she read in the bulletin of her birthday? She must have, but it seemed right for her to know. No longer do cloudy feelings fill her mind as she finds herself accepting the hug and the gift soon after. Once, Micaiah would have run from sudden friendships and intimacy—expected that they came at a cost far too high, but Yunaka’s flaws, the little she knows of them, match well against her own and she knows better now why one might seek a mirror in another.

“It looks delicious,” Micaiah says truthfully, looking down at the box in her hand with a smile, “thank you so much. I can have it with my tea this afternoon.”

She giggles, unsure if Yunaka’s emphasis on her cooking ability is modesty or truth but she is sure eventually she will learn; “did you buy it in town then? You must show me the shop! I always like to mill about down there in my free time, perhaps soon we can go together.”

idk if this is weird but i just rediscovered your art and realized i knew it from wattpad and i wanted to say thank u for writing all those wattpad vocaloid fics bc i was obsessed with them when i was younger and they lowkey inspired me to get into vocaloid more bc you always used all of the characters and it made me more interested. it’s now like one of my biggest special interests. anyway the stories are my own personal lost media tho i understand why they’re not up anymore lmfao all my wattpad fics i deleted too 😭

Jinhsi: 

You guys were on patrol together, clearing out Tacet Discords near Jinzhou

Jinhsi noticed you were already acting weird before you even met up to get started together

but she really couldn’t put a finger on what it was

so she tried to brush it off

emphasis on tried, because she really couldn’t

when watching you fight, your movements seemed sloppy

until she finally brought it up to ask you if you were feeling okay

you couldn’t bring yourself to lie to her. not now not ever

so you tell her how you injured your knee fighting some Tacet Discords the day before

and as much as you try to convince her that you’re fine, you can keep going, and that you’ll walk it off, she insists on heading back with you

she does end up having to drag you back to Jinzhou

then when you guys are back, she makes sure your injuries are treated well

and she pampers you until you are back on your feet (and can walk without limping) 

in the end she makes you promise to always tell you if you’re unwell 

Jiyan: 

Jiyan was supposed to go on a trip with you, which you did 

but you ended up encountering some Tacet Discords, and during the fight you get separated 

separated for just a second but you manage to get your knee hurt

you try to brush it off as nothing but when you find yourself unable to walk without limping, you are faced with an internal conflict 

you really don’t want to be a burden to Jiyan, so you tell him you’re okay 

but Jiyan notices. he notices everything 

so you guys walk a little, you trotting behind him with a limp, hoping Jiyan won’t notice 

and yet, despite all your efforts, Jiyan ends up confronting you 

and even when you continue to tell him that you’re fine and can keep going, he sweeps you up in his arms to carry you back to Jinzhou 

he isn’t mad at you, but he is worried about you, and your self neglecting habits of forcing yourself beyond your own borders when you’re clearly injured

but of course you do end up apologizing for lying to him

he is just glad that he gets to make sure that you’re going to be okay

bonus scenario !

Jiyan was basically right around the corner. You both were traveling together, fighting off some tacet discords, when you were separated. There was only one last Flautist left, and you were just about to tear through it with your sword, when you felt a sudden pain against your knee. 

In the last second, you were able to defeat the Tacet Discord, before it could follow up with a second attack. And it was also right second before Jiyan came dashing around the corner. 

“You okay?”, the question wasn’t asked because he suspected anything, it was more genuine worry about your well-being. Just how Jiyan was kinda always worried about you. 

There was a throbbing pain in your knee, which hurt when you stood. Or walked. It hurts no matter what. But you didn’t join Jiyan traveling just so you could be the reason to head back to Jinzhou on the first day. 

“Of course I’m okay! The fight was a breeze!”, you forced a smile on your face, even though you felt bad for lying to Jiyan. You suddenly forgot how you would have answered his question even if you were okay. 

Jiyan wasn’t blind. He could see the twitch in your eyelid in your forced smile. Yet he wasn’t going to pry. 

“Ookayyy. Come on. There might be more Tacet Discords ahead”, you nodded and wanted to follow up behind him. That was until you took a step, and the pain really hit you. Now, whenever you walked, you limped. 

You tried your best to hide your limping, but you were significantly slower than Jiyan. 

And Jiyan noticed. He noticed from the beginning that something was off. He definitely watched you like a hawk. 

You were way too busy trying to pretend like everything was fine, and trying to keep up with Jiyan, that you didn’t even notice that you guys were walking in a circle, suddenly back at the place where you were originally injured. 

Your knee was swelling up a little, and Jiyan noticed even before you. 

“Is there something you’re not telling me?”, Jiyan stopped walking, turned around and crossed his arms right in front of you. Unfortunately for you, because you were mid limp. 

“Uh… no what- what would there possibly be… are we in the same spot as we were 30 minutes ago?”, the realization that you were in the same spot painted confusion on your face. 

“Do you really think you can just lie to my face? I noticed you were injured when we were standing in this very spot. Now don’t deny it”, you couldn’t tell if Jiyan was actually angry with you or just concerned. And you weren’t about to push it any further. 

“Okay, okay, yeah some Tacet Discord gave me a direct blow to the knee and now it hurts a little, but it’s totally fine! I can keep going, no need for a break or anything!”, you were frantically waving your arms around, trying to signal that you were fine. 

Jiyan wasn’t having any of it. He merely sighed before swooping you up into his arms. 

With a yelp you tried to fight yourself out of his arms. 

“If you want me to head back, I can do it on my own! I can still see Jinzhou from here”, you argued. But Jiyan shook his head. 

“I need to make sure you’re being treated properly for your injury”

What followed were long moments of silence, while the air was filled with worry, and regret from you. At some point Jiyan suggested giving you a piggyback ride instead of carrying you bridal style, and you now wrapped your arms around him. 

The sun was slowly setting, and you knew that Jiyan’s trip had to be postponed for a few days at least. 

“Hey Jiyan…”

“Hm?”

“I’m sorry for lying to you about being injured. I should have just told you and headed back”, you apologized, hiding your face in the crook of his neck. 

“Don’t apologize, I understand your actions, and I wouldn’t have taken this trip without you anyways. Besides now I get to make sure you’re injury is being handled well”, Jiyan reassured you. 

“I love you too”, you smiled.

what they look like.  sol'rys is on the taller average side for a drow man,  standing at 5'5,  with a lithe but clearly strong build.  a dusky dark grey skin tone with a blue undertone.  somewhat wavy white hair that he wears long,  partially styled to conceal a scar on the left side of his face that trails from his forehead down to his cheek,  if he cannot attempt to hide it cosmetically.  several rings along the cartilage of both ears.  black tattoo at the right side of his neck,  trailing along the right side of his jawline.  the tips of both ears have been crudely cut off.  alert, dark red eyes.  bears himself with quiet dignity,  though the perceptive may note he bears himself self-consciously around other elves.  handsome,  though up to anyone whether the scarring detracts from that. 

what they smell like.   the armor he wears,  the chemicals he uses to treat it and his swords, and with the faintest tone of herbs.  the occasional whiff of balms and mixtures he prepares to heal or ease chronic aches.

what they taste like.  a person?

what they sound like. quiet assertion.  a quiet,  downward cast to his words.  he sounds as reserved as he is.  his common marks him as a native drowic speaker. a man accustomed to silence and having no need to speak for hours at length.

what they feel like.  callused.  hard with lean muscle.  scarred.  tender the way a wolf can be tender if you are lucky enough to be beside him.  a man curious for and desiring softness but afraid to let his guard down.  perhaps he cannot,  or thinks he cannot.
