headcanon that after stid, before jim wakes up, spock is pretty much glued to jim’s bedside and even when he isn’t he is in a constant state of repressed emotional meltdown, which leaves uhura to try and cope all on her own, feeling like she’s just biding time until the day when spock wakes up and realises he’s been in love with his captain for months.

she frequently goes and spends time on the enterprise helping with the refits to take her mind off things, usually down in engineering because she took a few modules in it at the academy, and besides, scotty is fun and easy to get on with and plays loud cheerful music to drown out his own thoughts and he doesn’t mind when she dances a little too enthusiastically and sings along a little too loudly.
