Few things in life are better than a good cup of coffee. ☕️ Just make sure it's not after 4 p.m. Or you may end up laying awake at night!

How Much Should You Be Sleeping?
While we all love to sleep, there are certainly many of us who don’t get near to enough shut-eye, or perhaps don’t even know how much they should be sleeping. However, in a world that is busier than ever before, it is of utmost importance that you ensure that you are getting the sleep you need in order to maximize your levels of daytime productivity and keep energy levels consistent.
The National Sleep Foundation suggests the following quotas of sleep for each different stage of a person’s life. For starters, children need the most sleep. This is due to the huge amount of growth children experience in their early years. In fact, a lack of sleep during early childhood can lead to stunted growth among a host of other health issues.
Newborns, who grow the fastest, require 14-17 hours of sleep. Infants from 4 months to a year should sleep between 12 and 15 hours. Once children hit the toddler stage, their optimal sleep time reduces slightly to 11-14 hours. Pre-school children from 3 to 5 years old should get around 10 to 13 hours of sleep per day. Still continuing to grow rapidly, school-aged children from 6 to 13 years old are recommended to sleep 9-11 hours each night.
Once children hit their teenage years, many of them begin to neglect sleep. However, this is best avoided, as teenagers are still experiencing both mental and physical development. For this reason teenagers are should get in between 8 and 10 hours of slumber. Many who begin to neglect their sleep in their teenage years establish bad sleeping habits that become difficult to kick in later years. Teenager need sleep to fuel their active lifestyles and help them perform to their best academically.
Upon reaching maturity and full growth, those in their young adult years of 18 to 25 require 7 to 9 hours of sleep, as do older adults from 26 to 64. Older adults above 65 require the least amount of sleep, being able to effectively run on just 7-8 hours of sleep.
Does the amount of hours you should be sleeping each night surprise you? There are many people who do not even get close to hitting their optimal amount of sleep. While it is entirely possible to survive on limited sleep, it can have a range of negative health implications, both mentally and physically. This can range from weight gain to difficulty concentrating. In fact, a lack of sleep can actually result in a change of brain composition, so although you may not feel the effects of sleep deprivation right now, that does not mean they are not there and won't catch up with you one day.
Now that you know exactly how much sleep you should be getting each night, there is no excuse to miss out on sleep time. And remember, with great sleep anything is possible! Keep on Living Comfortably and check back for another blog post very soon!
