The Wolf God of Argos:  Apollo Lykios
Tumblr media
One of the most famous and magnificent buildings in ancient Argos was the sanctuary of the wolf god, Apollo Lykios. It was for this reason that the people of Argos chose the wolf as an emblem for their coinage, an instantly recognizable symbol of the great city.
This coin is a silver triobol struck in Argos circa 270-260/50 BC. The obverse is the forepart of a wolf with a Θ above its neck. The reverse has a large A, a monogram to the upper right and an eagle standing on a harpe below, all within an incuse square.  The harpe was a type of sword or sickle; a sword with a sickle protrusion along one edge near the tip of the blade. The harpe is mentioned in Greek and Roman sources, and almost always in mythological contexts.

& I Pray | A Poem For Apollon
& I pray he smites you
I pray, I pray, I pray
His glowering, solar orbs possess thee to mull through your sins in a conquest of construe
may He pierce your tree of life with sprue of plague in unfathomable vexation crafted of vengeance upon my addressing of compulsive holy, vile prayers, simpering as you bellow, “Nay, Lord Phoebus, turn your smile curled of fury- Nay!”
& I pray he strikes you
I pray, I pray, I pray
the way [Homer] mused about My Lord Lykios, “his bow & his quiver upon his shoulder, & the arrows rattled on his back with the rage that trembled within him. He sat himself down away from the ships with a face as dark as night, & his silver bow rang death as he shot his arrow in the midst of them.” He heard my trembling prayers of scorn, descending from the heavens of a beseech of vengeance upon the bigotry of thou, you were sought & by his scythe of ravage torment of vermin like that of crow turned all lithe & blithe into curses of stythe, you hath subdued!
& to my avail, you writhed in grotesque discombobulation amongst the desecration of the lands of your abhorrent, loathly, odious flesh, quivering in orgasms of the Daemons that posses thee, following the biddings of Apollon to shatter your bones of revulsion, penetrate your organs with it’s undermost violent hysterics in demise of your boiling crimson blood to seep through your heinous skin, to set ablaze your mind with deranged mares of screeching nightingales of sorrow & murks of murder, to slay you, & before His glory, you were victim of his slay & in frenzied laughter dripping in venom, I boasted in my content of the contempt, “I prayed He slay, I prayed He slay, I prayed He slay!”
& I pray he spites you
I pray, I pray, I pray
He, He who is the light, the truth, the way, bringer of evil & plague, granted his steadfast devotees with the blessing of the curse of slaughter upon those befouled with curdled, tainted mortal ichor, a concoction of his hatred constructed of lustful cravings of revenge, death with His perishes of decaying physiques littered with rotting, festering, puss wounds, of His wicked disfigured malevolence that were foretold in tales of the sinister side of the scorching sol only disguised in glamours of His charm & demure winsome, sealed by the morbid & magickcal kiss of a witch, a brew
& to my sullen, sunken eyes laced of ecstasy at the sight of your mind warping in convoluted brooding, your body curling & disintegrating in open wounds of lurching red in ways painful & unimaginable to the mortal planes of the cerebrum, I am instilled in earthquakes of essence for My Lord Neomenius, forevermore devoted & grateful for His enigmatic, fathomless love for my obeying corazon, as I crooned in tender euphoria, my eyes smiling & turning as He took you body corrupted of filth & began to flay, “I prayed & He flayed, I prayed He flayed, I prayed & He flayed.”
I look to My Lord for the vendetta upon those who deserve to retch on the hellfire they prove in their existence.
& I pray as I offer the guayaba to my saccharine, lovingly docile, divine God as his lips bestowed my skin in warm, sugary kisses in oath that He would avenge thine wrongdoing, & so my cross resentment liberated with the plague anointed arrows that My Dear Lord Mealioukhos Tyrannea dispersed into your forsaken body; for this, I thank & devote to thee Apollon.

Authors Note:
YO! So uh, yeah. I wrote this today and it was kind of a vent poem. It’s a shitty first draft, but I don’t intend on fixing the errors in it. I never do that with my poems; I never fix what I’ve written. But I’m proud I wrote a poem today in Lord Apollon’s name. It’s about his taste for vengeance and his willingness to destroy those who hurt his devotees. It’s about his dark side, ya know. (‘:

a poem for Apollo
sometimes he burns so brightly
that i cannot see him
but i look anyway
he of the ashes
that rain down around me, all that remains
of our enemies
apollo sotir, apollo savior
he who utters a war cry
blood drips from my ears and his scream is mine
rouser of armies
apollo ilios, apollo invoked with a cry
he of the wild cry
my feet pound against the dirt, teeth bared against the frost
wolfish lord, apollo lykios
apollo neomenius, he of the new moon
descending like the night
resting in the negative space
words whispered in the darkness, telling of bleak futures
apollo kledones, apollo omen
tracks of fire across the sky,
apollon emos, carry me far
apollo erasmius, apollo psychodotir, apollo olbiodotes, they forget
the light is always warm and giving
before it burns.
