Summary:

Following Kolivan’s advice, Keith heads to Hateno Village to get his Sheikah Slate fixed. Along the way, he meets some people who give him some insight about the battle that took place one hundred years ago, but he leaves with more questions than answers. I had a lot of fun working on this and learned a lot. It’s my first time doing a full lineless piece so it was cool to experiment with something new.

It’s Lance’s 18th birthday

 As Hunk is the only one on the ship privy to Lance’s birthdate while also keeping track of the Earth days while in space, he’s the only one to realize it

 (screw canon, Hunk is the best bff)

He makes all of Lance’s favorite space dishes and even manages to make a cake from space ingredients

 He keeps everyone out of the kitchen during this time, wanting it to be a surprise

 That night, he ushers everyone into the dining hall

 Except Keith

 Because Keith can draw so Hunk wants him to decorate Lance’s cake

 Upon learning that it’s Lance’s birthday, Keith says he’ll be right back

 When he returns, he refuses to explain where he went, instead going straight to decorating the cake

 He writes ‘Happy B-Day Lance!’ then draws a decent Red Lion underneath it

 He finishes it off with dotting the rest of the empty spaces of the cake with stylized stars

 Hunk is impressed

 Gathering the food – Hunk with the meals on a large tray, Keith with the cake – they head to the dining hall

 Upon entering the dining hall, Hunk begins singing the birthday song

 Keith joins in quickly, looking straight at Lance, who is sitting in a state of shock

 Everybody else, figuring out what’s going on, begin singing to Lance, as well

 Lance is touched

 They all celebrate, digging into Hunk’s amazing cooking and ribbing on Lance good-naturedly

 When they get to the cake, Hunk makes sure to mention that Keith decorated it

 Lance just stares at Keith in surprise

 Keith, who’s looking anywhere but Lance and blushing

 With a gulp, he pulls a small wrapped object from his pocket and hands it to Lance with a mumbled, “Happy birthday”

 Stunned silent, Lance takes the gift and unwraps it to find a beautiful stone, multi-colored and lovingly cared for

 Keith: It’s uh… It’s the first thing I picked up after going to space. Like a souvenir. I-I thought you could take it back to Earth and show it to your family to show where you’ve been.

 He says all of this without looking at Lance, only glancing at him at the end, obviously nervous

 Lance can only stare at the rock, feeling emotional at the heartfelt gift

 Without a word, he stands and hugs Keith tightly who hugs back after only a moment’s hesitation

 Years later, Lance will still call that his favorite birthday, recalling it every year with his husband

 (and he totally still has the rock)

Keith seems like the type of guy to get out of bed easily, ready for anything at a moment's notice, up to waking up everyone else if need be. Lance discovers, when the two start sharing a bed, that this notion is completely wrong.

Lance finds this out the first time an alarm goes off after he and Keith started sharing a room. Immediately, Lance is awake and expecting Keith to move so they can rush to the bridge. But Keith doesn't. Instead, Keith makes a noise of discontent and snuggles deeper into Lance's chest, making his hold on their tangled legs tighter and pulling Lance closer by the waist. All without opening his eyes.

Lance tries to rouse him -- calling him by his favorite pet names, kissing his face, nudging him gently, nudging him roughly -- giggling all the while at his boyfriend's sudden koala traits. Keith only holds him tighter and refuses to move with incomprehensible mumbles. Lance finally asks why Keiyh is so insistent.

"I'm comfortable in bed with the love of my life in my arms, I'm staying here forever," Keith murmurs sleepily.

Lance concedes that maybe Allura can wait a little while longer for them to arrive.

HOLY FUCK MY FIRST EVER ASK EXCUSE ME WHILE I GO SOB INTO A CORNER

12: things you said when you thought i was asleep -With lowkey post war BOM klance because I’m weak for it-

Lance’s eyes have been closed for at least a half hour but he’s no closer to being asleep than he was when he’d gotten into bed. He had been busy all day, he got back from a mission delivering supplies off-planet to Nublirai, which has been struggling ever since they’d been freed from Galra occupation, then he went to a sit-down with Kolivan and a few other Blade of Marmora team leaders to helping train some new recruits before he was finally permitted to take the night. So, hypothetically he should be able to fall asleep at the drop of a dime, but here he is, wide awake, waiting for sleep to finally come and claim him already. 

The door to the bedroom opens and Lance hears the sound of boots being taken off, internally he wonders if he should roll over and greet Keith but he’s too tired. He’s gonna be in bed in a minute anyway. Lance thinks to himself as he remains still with his eyes shut, having not moved as he hears his boyfriend moving around the room in preparation for bed, and maybe some cuddling can finally get my melatonin to kick in. 

The mattress sinks as Keith gets into bed with him and after a moment warm arms wrap around Lance; he lets himself be pulled into Keith’s chest, reveling in the warmth of his breath on the back of his neck. Oh yes, he’ll certainly be sleeping in no time like this, in his boyfriend’s arms, the warmth permeating throughout his being like he’s lying with a space heater… 

Lance hears Keith’s husky voice after a moment of regular breath, it’s at a just below a whisper volume, if Keith’s lips weren’t pressed right by his ear, Lance doubts that he would’ve heard it. “I love you.” 

This snaps Lance wide awake, the clinging fragments to the realm of dreams fall away like water rolling off a glass as he feels Keith’s arms tighten around him. His hand is splayed against his chest, right over Lance’s heartbeat, and his pulse stammers when Keith’s breath tickles his hair at the nape of his neck. “I love you.” He whispers it against his deep, caramel skin like he’s telling Lance a secret, undeniable warmth fills him that goes beyond just his boyfriend’s body heat pressed against his back.

What’s more is he absolutely will not allow for Keith’s breathy words to stand alone; not while he’s still conscious. Lance shifts and Keith’s arm lifts, he hears his boyfriend hum in surprise as Lance turns around until he’s facing him, slowly he opens his sleep heavy eyes. 

Keith’s eyes are always the first thing that draws Lance in, they’re widened and close to black in the darkness of the room, filled with stars just like the abyssal depths of space. The halo of the wild crests of his hair is illuminated by the shadows, Lance finds his hands traveling up between them and cupping Keith’s cheek as tangles his legs closer to his. 

“… I didn’t know you were awake.” Keith rumbles softly, his voice hitches in surprise when Lance touches his index finger over his lips. 

“I love you, too.” Lance whispers back to him with his slender fingers moving to shift through the other’s dark locks, inky spills along his pale skin. Keith stares back at him with the same wide eyed expression, so to drive his point home Lance leans in and presses his lips to the other’s. It’s a soft kiss, gentle and chaste but it bubbles with warmth from the pair as they gravitate closer together. Before long the lazy kisses turn slower as their exhaustion catches up to them, and they fall asleep while wrapped up in each other’s arms, surrounded in the warmth made by their other half.
