Just wanted to share my deepest gratitude to everyone who has been so thoughtful during this time. It was definitely an odd experience being on the other side of things as a patient. As some of you know I underwent a small procedure and I am doing well thank you. My very special thanks go out to all of the doctors and nurses. And to everyone who has been supportive. M. Motivation. The sweat sounds of an encouraging mantra providing the momentary momentum exciting us to think we can master our dreams and goals. Motivation is powerful! Yet, it has a short half-life. It can last moment, a day, or a week. But motivation alone will subside. It will fade. Motivation equals “Maybe”. You see, without action, motivation is just a feeling. An inspiring notion. We read and hear motivation often, but if we don’t take action then the motivation becomes the maybe. “Maybe I will go to the gym.” or “maybe I will stop smoking.” As trainers we “motivate” our clients for a specific result. Starting August 1 is the new 30 day challenge! Being that we should be in the dog days of summer here in North America, it seems fitting that this challenge should happen now. It is the water challenge. Do you drink enough water? Recent Studies by the national Institute of Health suggests that 75% of Americans suffer from chronic dehydration. That is 3/4 of our population does not take in the recommended amount of water per day. So? Do you drink enough water? What is enough water? At minimum it is recommended that we consume 8-8ounce glasses per day of water. That does not include replenishing what we lose for strenuous activity. But all things being equal let’s see if we can at least drink the 8-8 ounce glasses that’s recommended. For this 30 day challenge can you stay hydrated every day? Here’s a fun fact for all you looking to get into shape. Say your looking to start working out? Nd let’s say you start an exercise program. How long do you think it will take before you start to see sustainable results? A week? A month? Truth be told, this is a trick question. Never mind the fact that everyone is different, it’s important to look at what your true goals are. Results may vary based on the type of program you’re looking at. If you’re interested in losing weight, or interested in gaining muscle, or interested in increasing endurance then your results may vary. However, a general rule of thumb is that you may start to see sustainable results within 6 to 8 weeks. So it’s very possible that you won’t start to notice the improvements you’re making for 2 months. Ironically, nearly 20% of people who start working out quit between 4 to 6 week after starting exercise. So just remember, it takes a little time for your body to adapt to your exercise routine in the goals you set for yourself. You may not see results right away but it will happen.
