Yemeni-American business owners declared an eight-hour strike on February 2, 2017, shutting down over one thousand bodegas and restaurants across New York City to protest the immigration ban imposed by President Trump. A rally was held at Brooklyn Borough Hall to share the impact the ban has had on the Yemeni-American community of New York, bringing awareness to the importance immigrants have played in making New York City a diverse and powerful city for all.  Shot on assignment for Gothamist. Shot some portraits of stand-up comic, actress, and writer Phoebe Robinson of Two Dope Queens podcast for Buzzfeed News early one morning. Well, early for me, because I had been up all night shooting and editing that I only had time to sleep 2.5 hours. Read the article here  where she talks about her New York Times best selling book You Can’t Touch My Hair .  And yes I left the dirty footprints on the backdrop on purpose, cuz I liked them.

I photographed Phoebe Robinson the stand-up comic, writer and actress with her Two Dope Queens podcast partner Jessica Williams at The Bell House in Brooklyn New York. It also happened to be Phoebe’s birthday, so she received a surprise dance on stage with a stripper. I shot her backstage for a two part set for Buzz Feed.
