Great Analyse and I agree with the things you said however the empress was pregnant with the sec prince when the first prince died.

It was in the webtoon like that but I have not read the novel yet so maybe they changed it in the webtoon.

This is a wild theory but i think the story of the empress and the emperor was much more sinister than it is shown. The empress absolutely loathes her husband even in public. She hates him so much that she willingly kills herself only to ensure his death. We're shown that the unjust death of the first prince is to blame. But i think there's more to this hate.

It's been a while since i read the novel but i think the second prince was not born yet at the time of the first princes death. So after her son's death the empress hates her life and her husband so she tries to kill herself. So if she hates him so much how did she have another son with the man who killed her son?? Now there are 2 facts to remember The emperor was obsessed with the empress at a disturbing level. Secondly this is the same man who in the future advised his son to rape his fiance ( the mc) so that she cannot break this engagement.

So it's not far fetched to believe that the emperor might have used that same logic in his own marriage and probably forced himself on his wife. Because according to his words he is willing to do anything to keep the empress by his side . The emperor must have an heir and whether the empress was willing to sleep with him or have a child with him didn't matter to the emperor.

I think this also may be the reason why the empress ignores her own 2nd son to the point of hatred.
