Jim doesn't know the gravity of what he managed to do in drawing Excalibur from the stone and awakening Douxie's amulet. But those powerful enough to remember across timelines understand.
Because for all their bickering and wars and differing methods for changing the world, they can all agree that King Arthur tipped the balance in a way none of them expected. He turned his back on magic and the world has suffered 1000 years for it.
To prevent the same mistake from happening again, new spells are stacked upon the legendary sword as each ancient power comes into contact with it.
Nimue concedes that "fighting for good" is too subjective. The next wielder will fight for balance of power. Good and Evil, Magic and Mortal. So long as they are fighting to achieve and maintain balance, they may wield Excalibur.
Bellroc refuses to allow someone who despises magic wield the sword. Therefore, the next to draw it must love and be loved by magic to ensure it can never be used against those who gifted it in the first place.
Nari's spell calls for strength of heart. The trials that will befall Excalibur's next chosen will require more than brute strength to overcome. Empathy will guide them true.
Merlin's spell criticizes those who fight by Excalibur's side and searches for a round table to stand by the next king. They must have a council of friends and advisors to keep the wielder in check. And should the wielder ever stray from the path of balance and good, should they ever become UN-worthy, Morgana's spell takes Excalibur's power away.
When James Lake Jr. decided to stand up against the Arcane Order to protect a world shared by Magic and Mortals, when he put his trust in the family he found in that world and followed his heart into battle, he proved himself worthy of every spell placed upon Excalibur right down to the amulet that tied itself to the sword.
For Hisirdoux Casperan's Champion fights for all.

Things I didn't like about Strickler's redemption
Don't get me wrong— I love Strickler. He's one of my favorite characters, not because he was a villain, but because of how he changed. I wanted him to be redeemed and I'm happy he did—I'm also happy that he survived (or at least didn't die permanently since Jim traveled back in time during ROTT) but I think his redemption could have been better. And these are the things I don't like:
The scene where he breaks his bond between him and Barbara. Not because he breaks the bond, but because of what he says to Jim before doing it (after Jim tells him "Thanks for doing this for me"). After hearing Jim say that, Strickler says "I'm doing it for her", and I hated that. Yeah, I understand that Strickler is only starting his redemption arc there, and I also know that later he gives Jim the last triumbric stone (Gunmar's eye), but I hated how he only seems to care about Barbara while breaking the bond. He should have said "I'm not doing this only for you", not only because that would have proved Jim that there was a part of Strickler that still cared, but because that would have proved the viewers the same thing.
Strickler leaving after season 1. I understand nor Jim nor the trolls wanted Strickler to stay in Arcadia (at least the trolls because they didn't trust Jim), but he could have stayed there and kept a low profile, maybe to be sure that nothing bad happened to Jim or Barbara. He could have hid from them (and maybe help Trollhunters' team from the shadows), but make the viewers aware that he didn't leave.
Jim and Strickler's relatioship on season 3. Strickler and Jim appear together when Strickler and Nomura train Jim, and they also appear together when Jim becomes a half-troll, but I feel like they don't have enough scenes. A lot of Strickler scenes in season 3 are related to Barbara, and although I like Stricklake, the writers highlight their relationship too much in comparison with Strickler and Jim's relationship. For example, in Bad Coffee, it was the perfect oportunity to show Strickler still cared about Jim. Jim could have broke gravesand's control on Strickler with something related to the two of them, but of course Strickler came back because of Jim talked about Barbara. Of course.
Strickler not comforting Jim when he becomes a half-troll. I expected Strickler to comfort Jim, since he knows better than anyone what it means to be trapped in a troll form, without being able to become human again, but they didn't do that. And it could have been a great comfort scene between the two.
Strickler and Jim not talking about what happened in the past. Strickler and Jim deserved a scene where they had a conversation about the betrayal of Strickler, a scene where Strickler apologized to Jim. Not with actions, but with words. Because even if the show had scenes where Strickler showed he could change, I really missed him saying "I'm sorry for hurting you" to Jim. Some people say "show don't tell" or "tell don't show", but I think you need to do both. Because Jim deserved to hear that apology out loud.
Strickler and Barbara's relationship in season 3. Once they begin to trust each other again in season 3, I like their romance, but I don't like how they get there. After season 1, Barbara loses the memories about Strickler, and in season 3 she slowly recovers them. But what I don't like about Strickler's redemption there is how easily Barbara forgives Strickler. Of course, she remembers he helped them to escape Angor, but I'm pretty sure that she also remembers other things that happened because of Strickler. They also needed to have a conversation (like Strickler and Jim), and Strickler should have also apologized to her, not only for entwining their souls but also for hurting Jim.
Not showing care for other people besides Barbara and Jim. This is just my preference, but when a villain redeems, I want them to be protective of the hero (that helped them to redeem), but also protective of the hero's friends. And I know Strickler helped Jim to bring back Claire when she was under Morgana's control, but I wanted him to be soft/protective around her or Toby more times (or any other Jim's ally). Basically, be a hero because he believes in goodness and not a hero who is a hero because the people he cares about are in the good side.
The absence of guilt. In season 3, when he reunited again with Jim, he could have showed more guilt in his eyes. Maybe not while training, because he neeeded Jim to not hold back, and he needed Jim to be stronger and more skilled, but maybe after the training, if he saw Jim sad or stressed he could have comforted him (and maybe the writers could have showed how his eyes softens, or how Strickler looks sadly at Jim).
In conclusion, like I said before, I love Strickler and I love writing about the father-son relationship between him and Jim, but there are a lot of things I would have wanted to see in the show to make his redemption better.
