Somewhere between 6th and 8th grade (then 2003 - 2005), I started my own comic book called “The Stick Comic”, because even though I had a pretty wild imagination, I sucked at drawing proper people, lol. It’s too bad I never got to finish it :/ I did, however, use my characters from “The Lurve Triangle” to create this music video in 2008.

The Daykeeper 2016
The Daykeeper is a planner/journal/datebook created by fellow creative, Katt San Juan, who is a wedding videographer at Mayad Studios. By traveling a lot, she has collected tons of inspiration and taken plenty of pretty photos— so it’s not hard to imagine wanting to share all of it with like-minded women!
Cultivating an attitude of gratitude, seeing beauty in the mundane, inspiring productivity, and growing in the faith are values that purposed the creation of The Daykeeper. Independently, Katt made this series of yearly datebooks starting at 2014. Being a fan of her work, I was only able to start owning the 2015 one.
Next year’s (2016) Daykeeper was on track to be the bestest datebook yet, so when Katt approached me because she liked the work I did for Friday Night Light’s “Open Table” poster, I of course jumped on the opportunity to help her with the marketing!

Behind-The-Scenes: #TL4PursuingPassion
vimeo
The above image is of a construction of several hundreds of individual matchsticks painstakingly glued together to form 3D lettering.
The video below it is when we set it on fire. 🔥🔥🔥
But first— let’s rewind.
Making this matchstick masterpiece is only a small part of my involvement as the Marketing Creative for the True Life Retreat, but it’s also by far the highlight for me!
Since the theme for this year was “Pursuing Passion”, my team and I decided upon the matchstick as the central element. The idea is that a person is meant to blaze with passion in life... but that one can also burn out pretty quickly if not lit or sustained by a great call or purpose.
We spent at least 12 hours straight in execution: ordering a hundred matchboxes, glueing the matchsticks together (Tip: always stick to the glue gun. ALWAYS!) and taking photos from different angles. To be honest I also just about died when it came to cleaning up the final image—full of flaws— on Photoshop the next morning. My perfectionist side was writhing... but you gotta work with what you have so far.
Fast forward to making the press kits! We used all the empty matchboxes to put little calling cards in with a matchstick wedged in between. Oh, and that strip on top isn’t real sandpaper but I got ya fooled, didn’t I? ;D
Here’s a cinemagraph. Such a nice, soft, and feminine hand........ except it doesn’t belong to a female. HAHA! Somebody hire Mike Blas Yap for his hand modeling! 👏
Some design studies I made for the merchandise. We eventually chose #3 for the shirt, and #8 for the tote bag.
Aaaaaaand back to being arsonists the video, watch the BTS below:

Beauty from Ashes: A visual diary of Mt. Pinatubo
Last weekend, a friend and I journeyed to one of the Philippines’ most renowned crater lakes: Mount Pinatubo. Erupting in 1991, it’s considered to be the second largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century killing 800+ people and displacing thousands more. Its effects on the environment were also felt on a global scale, causing a temperature drop and further deterioration of the ozone layer.
More than two decades later, I find myself hiking its very slopes...

Philippine Air Force Aerospace Museum, June 2014
All images were shot with an iPod Touch 5 and post-processed with VSCO Cam.
---
After rendering a long week of night shift OTs and ending on a Saturday morning, i had breakfast with a few of my officemates at Army Navy then got picked up by the brother after. We dropped by the Aerospace Museum on the way home for Ingress* purposes, but being surrounded by these historic parked airplanes instilled in me such awe and inspiration that i had to shoot and immortalize the experience. It was gloomy at first but i waited for the clouds to part and let out the bright sun for some harsh shadows. Other times i used the clouds as a diffuser for more evenly-lighted photos. Then we moved indoors to see other flight paraphernalia.
All i can say is that i have a new-found appreciation for these giant winged contraptions.
*if you play this awesome game, you'll know why and what i'm talking about ;)

The Collage
Beads, buttons, ribbons, and flowers
Blacks and whites against the fanciful colour
Could it have been too much
for one defined by "grace and favour" ?
Nonetheless, this canvas, this collage
speaks more than what I can envisage
Words were written, printed and then
embedded between memories so visual
of days of fun, sometimes unusual…
—
The scraps, the tears, the many rough edges
simply symbolized our way through the hedges
but hurts were forgiven, thus frowns never deepen
as beauty comes from beneath the ash
Our worlds collided but never did they clash
Since we were made different
Each one varied, each one magnificent…
—
I breathe "thank you" and think of what more to say,
Still wishing that time would permit me to stay.
Alas, my friends, we shouldn’t be sad…
More often than not, we’ve reason to be glad.
—
Now on to the wall I turn my glance
At the collage upon which my eyes danced and pranced
Home-made and beautiful, done so painstakingly
That cost Sheila her sleep, making her go crazy…
—
And… loose pieces may fall,
but nothing that glue can’t help, if not at all.
Written on the 29th of June, 2008.

Love is war.
It sounds like a contradiction. It doesn't make sense; It's hard to make sense of God sometimes... but then doesn't that make perfect sense? The whole unfathomable mystery of God... too great for our limited minds to fully embrace.
Why are some Christians still fighting for their worth, when it was already won for them?
His love has won it all.
- Joel Houston’s words (non-verbatim)

i am most in my element when i’m up in the air.
Phases of Flight: from urban sprawl to paradise ✈️🌴
90% of the time i spend while on a plane is looking out the window and taking pictures. My feet is kept grounded being in wondrous awe as a mere speck crawling in this big, wide, universe.
Now if only i could afford to fly more often...
