I never wanted to kiss before my current boyfriend. I just thought I hated kissing. I had been told by so many men in so many ways that I am a terrible kisser.

It turns out I really like kissing. I understand what it means to hunger for someone’s mouth. I understand kissing for twenty minutes or an hour or all night because I’ve done it.

Sometimes, yes, you might just hate kissing. But sometimes you just might not have met the right mouth yet. I did not meet the right mouth until I was 29.

I wonder if other millennials feel nostalgia for the close knit friendships of our youth.

The way you could have full, prolonged, physical contact with a platonic friend of any gender and share precious intimacy without anyone feeling weird about it.

The way we were comfortable inconveniencing each other. And never even would’ve thought of it that way.

The way we prioritized spontaneous adventure and vulnerability, just as naturally as we breathed.

The way unselfconscious (sometimes inappropriate, always vulgar) laughter was our daily bread.

It’s different now.

Misunderstandings or straight up betrayals. Obligations getting in the way. The hurt that keeps us from reaching out. The awkwardness. The pride. The fears that keep us from opening up again.

The life that seems to push us towards self-reliance. But maybe that was never the case. Maybe that was just easier, without the ability to see into the future and anticipate the way that so much more isolation was to come.

Is there a remedy?

Can I start again?

Can I strike up a conversation with someone? Boldly ask them to do something with me? Share deep and complex conversations while we do simple, superficial things? Let loose and get lost. Enter portals to adventure, and let life breathe art. Let our souls dance naked & give birth to joy in every moment…

Real talk. The narrative of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is kind of wild to me.

This is (ostensibly) a story about a group of 33-year-olds on a quest to kill a godlike being that kills every person of a certain age at the end of every year (last year the 34-year-olds died; this year it will the 33-year-olds, et cetera).

In other words, this is a story about *a gang of Millennials fighting to justify their existence to an eldrich Boomer*.

It’s about the existential dread of being a 30-something in a world where the future is *not looking bright*.

Is this clicking at all with anyone else?

Ugh, how do I easily explain that if you look at the word 'sex' through a much more old-fashioned lens instead of the modern one, that you'll get a vastly different picture of it?

Preaching to the choir to talk about climate change, I know, so I just wanna share some millennial perspective for folks who'd be too young or too urban to have witnessed these kinds of ecological changes. I'm 30 now, in 2023, and I'm from the southern post oak savannahs in Texas.

Growing up, spring was characterized by the lovebugs swarming to mate. Gas stations would be especially packed by them, attracted to the smell of their own smeared bodies being wiped off of everyone's windshields. My grandmother saw maybe one this year.

Growing up, summer was characterized by droves of cicadas, junebugs, grasshoppers and the black-and-yellow argiope, a web spider that grows big enough to eat them. This had been one of the quietest summers I can ever recall. I didn't hear the wee-oo-wee-oo of scissorgrinder cicadas at all this year. I saw grasshoppers but not a single argiope. I saw maybe one junebug.

Growing up, autumn got frost in the mornings. I would have to wait for the windshield to defrost to go to school. Texas was always warm in the summer, but it was still normal to get cooler-than-tropical weather during the cold months. The last time I can recall morning frost was at least ten years ago.

Growing up, winter still didn't usually give us more than one day of snow toward February, but we did get ice and sleet. It was normal to see my breath outside. The polar vortices were unusual, but warm winters are also unusual even in Texas. They're a very recent occurrence.

A lot of users on this platform were born after these changes already passed, or else grew up in the city. If climate change were reversed tomorrow, it would be a shock to the system how much more fuller the air would be with wings and songs during the warm months, and how much icier the cold months would be. I don't know how to express to anyone younger than me how much emptier, quieter, the trees and grasses are compared to however old I'd have been when they were born.

What's happened has already happened, but. I dunno. It's still important to remember what else is different or missing, especially in order to better envision what recovery will look like.

If the 2000s were defined by Technology and The Internet (mainly gadgets that became outdated and websites we don't anymore).

Then the 2010s were defined by Smartphones and the Internet.

Which makes me think the 2020s will be defined by all the nasty aftereffects of the Technology and the Internet being a "thing" for over 20 years. Smartphone addiction, social media burnout, increasing rates of anxiety and depression, a general loss of social skills amongst certain generations, and other things and stuff that society hasn't touched on.

20 years ago people weren't glued to their phones at all. Then again 20 years ago, all phones could do is take and make calls, and send and receive texts and voice messages. Now, the average phone is basically a mini computer.

Some people will have the TV on in their living room, while their laptop is on their lap or desk, while they are looking at their phone. With endless visual overstimulaltion. I wonder how good this is for mental health in the long-term. If anything, it can't be good.
