I guess in some way, big or small, we are all David Bowie fans. I’ve been a fan since I was 13 after being introduced to my dad’s collection of Bowie albums. I decided to create a graphic novel from one of my favourite, and probably lesser known albums, ‘1.Outside’. ‘Outside’ is a dark graphic novel inspired by Bowie’s enigmatic concept album. I felt very reverential drawing from Bowie’s work. I wanted to pay homage to him, to say thank you for his philosophy, influence, art and music. The graphic novel is my humble tribute to David. About the graphic novel: Detective Nathan Adler is investigating a murder. Whilst Adler interrogates the suspects, he realises he is battling a monster - one that must be stopped … whatever the cost. #Graphite #Drawing #Portrait Commission 'Past Present Future'. One of the portrait commissions received after I appeared on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year. My goal was to show the link between the family members through their profession as doctors, and the different generations - father, his daughter, and her daughter. For me, as an artist, it was lovely to create a portrait that shows strong family connections. 'Vincent & Me' Self Portrait in homage to Vincent van Gogh. I painted this self portrait when I was 17. About a year later I was really excited to see the actual portrait that inspired it. I went to see van Gogh's 1889 self portrait for Dr Gachet at the Musee d'Orsay, in Paris. Every reproduction I'd seen had failed to match the vibrancy of the blues as they are in reality. Van Gogh's self portrait is startling in its scale, colour, and the intensity of his gaze. 'Missing' Coloured Pencil This piece was created for my A Level course. The main theme of the project was 'Missing'. #Painting: 'Peter Pan' #Acrylic on board This is the last in the #series of #illustrations for 'Peter Pan'. The others are elsewhere in this #gallery: 'Mrs Darling' (study), 'Tinkerbell' (study), 'Tiger Lily' (completed), and 'Peter Pan & Wendy' (completed). The book and play, 'Peter Pan', by J.M. Barrie, was written at a time when women were generally treated - by a strongly patriarchal society - as second-class citizens. In the story, the females play subordinate roles to Peter. With these illustrations, I tried to find the rare occasions when the female characters might be shown as independent, strong, and (in some way) in control of their own lives. This particular illustration is heavy in #symbolism, and shows Peter overshadowing the female characters. This is achieved by indicating Peter at the window of the Darling children's nursery. His shadow falls across various objects on the floor of the nursery. The objects in shadow represent Mrs Darling, Tiger Lily, Tinkerbell, and Wendy. 'Homage to Egon Schiele' Gouache on paper Inspired by 'Seated Woman with Bent Knee' Egon Schiele, 1917. Model: Yet again, my long-suffering mum! A piece I created as part of my 'A' Level exam in 2011, when I was 17. That was an amazing time for me ... for 'A' Level Art & Design, Cambridge International Examinations (which encompasses over 160 countries), I was awarded The Highest Mark in the World (!!!) ... an achievement that's still sinking in today! Despite its seeming simplicity, I found Schiele's style and use of media a challenge to replicate.
