    Wine Bridge Imports
WINE BRIDGE IMPORTS is a family-owned wine importer based in Northern California. We import wines into the United States and work together with wholesalers throughout the country to position our wines in key retailers and restaurants.     Henry Wine Group
The Henry Wine Group understands this dynamic and recognizes that successfully representing its suppliers' wine in the market demands an awareness of the subtleties of both. In order to keep up with such a diverse industry, we have developed an unprecedented combination of expertise, partnership, and technology; no other distribution company can offer such informed and flexible service. Our commitment to ongoing study and creativity enables The Henry Wine Group to continually advance and grow in step with the suppliers and markets we serve. This philosophy and commitment finds its guidance in an original vision of excellence. The Henry Wine Group traces its roots back to 1985, when Warner W. Henry identified a major shortcoming in fine wine marketing and distribution. He realized that the special needs of fine wine suppliers were not being met by the spirits-driven wholesale companies and decided to offer an alternative. Warner Henry began by founding Vintage House Distributors in southern California and eventually acquired a select group of regional fine wine companies. The merging of this collective formed a company that is now the largest importer, distributor, and broker in the United States dedicated exclusively to fine wines. Founded on a principle of specialization, The Henry Wine Group continues to expand in expertise.

"The China Wine & Spirits Awards (CWSA) is proud to be partnering with the Beverage Trade Network (BTN) to assist with their development and interest in the China market - the fastest growing wine market in the world.
The CWSA is the biggest and most prestigious wines and spirits competition in China and we only want to work with the best supporters to producers who benefit from the latest information, and development opportunities." Kelly England, President China Wine & Spirits Awards (CWSA)
Presently, CWSA are really focusing on making sure all wine makers and export directors know it is NOW time to enter the CWSA Best Value 2013. Wines from FOB prices from EUR100+ all the way down to EUR1-2 will be tasted in order of price point by the 100 Judges, who are all professional buyers, distributors and retailers. The last competition was incredibly successful and it allows wines of all price points to shine. It also gives them enormous market advantage as commercial buying decisions are based on quality of taste and of course price point. Chinese buyers are very open to a range of prices from the highest to the lowest. But, they demand the best value. This is what the CWSA Best Value delivers to wine makers and buyers alike, the results forming the directory to purchase decisions for the year ahead.
Beverage Trade Network is one of the world‘s leading networks for beverage, wine, spirits and beer importers, distributors, producers and related companies. Misty Cove Wines is now looking for wine importers in USA and Canada.
Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2011
The colour is a delightful light lime and the bouquet is full of lively gooseberry, fresh herbs and melon aromas with tropical passionfruit and citrus fruit character on the palate. This wine has great acidity and length, finishing refreshingly limey and elegant.
Misty Cove Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc can be enjoyed with a wide range of dishes including (shell) fish, poultry, salads or simply as a classy aperitif at 9° C.
Marlborough Pinot Gris 2011
The colour is a brilliant light straw and the bouquet shows perfumed apple, pear and spice. Mouthfilling richness, white peach, pear and crispy apple dominate the palate with a long, slightly off dry and balanced acidity in the finish.
Misty Cove Marlborough Pinot Gris can be enjoyed with a wide range of dishes including (shell) fish, poultry, asian style, salad or simply as a classy aperitif at 9º C.
Hawkes Bay Merlot 2011
This is a full bodied, rich, and fruit driven wine, which is vibrant and slightly exotic exhibiting a bouquet of plums, red fruits and dried herbs. The palate is soft and generous in nature, making it easy to enjoy as a young wine; however well ripened tannins suggests this wine has the potential to age exceptionally well.
Misty Cove Hawkes Bay Merlot can be enjoyed with a wide range of dishes including most meats, especially lamb, beef, veal, duck, rabbit.
Canterbury Pinot Noir 2011
The colour is a delightful ruby red and the bouquet shows violets, berry fruit and gentle smoky aromas with red stone fruit, fresh raspberry and subtle earthy characters tempered by fine ripe tannins to give a powerful, lingering finish.
Misty Cove Canterbury Pinot Noir can be enjoyed with a wide range of dishes including lamb, duck, beef, game, venison, veal, pasta and mushroom.
Signature Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2011
Misty Cove Signature Wines are only produced in exceptional years, when all the natural elements (soil, climate, geography) come together to produce the perfect quality fruit required for our Signature Wines.
The fruit for this Signature Sauvignon Blanc was grown in the Rapaura sub region of Marlborough. Each parcel was treated separately to ensure integrity, retaining the individual characters each parcel had to offer. The wine was kept on fine lees for 8 months with gentle stirring, to optimise the development of the aromas and flavours of the wine.
The colour is a delightful light lime and the bouquet is full of classic fresh herb, lime zest, ripe pineapple and passionfruit characters with vibrant well defined acidity topping off the ripe tropical and citrus fruit character on the palate. The excellent concentration provides a lengthy and persistence finish which is the trademark of our Signature Sauvignon Blanc.
Misty Cove Signature Sauvignon Blanc can be enjoyed with a wide range of dishes including shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, fish, chicken, asparagus, salads or simply as a classy aperitif at 9°C.
Signature Central Otago Pinot Noir 2008
Misty Cove Signature Wines are only produced in exceptional years, when all the natural elements (soil, climate, geography) come together to produce the perfect quality fruit required for our Signature Wines.
The fruit for this Signature Pinot Noir was grown in the Gibbston Valley sub region of Central Otago. Each parcel was treated separately to ensure integrity, retaining the individual characters each parcel had to offer. The wine matured on fermentation lees for 11 months in a mix of seasoned, 1, 2 and 3 year old French oak barrels, to optimise the development of the aromas and flavours of the wine.
Aromas of dark cherry, dutch cocoa and wild herbs. The palate has an attack of layers dark berry fruit, spice and savoury characters. Fine, structured tannins add texture and are complimented by the fresh, balanced acidity on the finish setting this distinctive Signature Pinot Noir apart from the rest.
Misty Cove Signature can be enjoyed with a wide range of dishes including lamb, beef, venison, duck, wild meats, stew, and mushroom.

Wine Distributor: What is the role of a wine distributor?
Wine Distributor: What is the role of a wine distributor?
We are focusing on USA wine market as in most other parts of the world a winery or an importer can also distribute wine to the retailers.
USA has a three-tier law where every alcoholic beverage must flow from a winery or wine importer to a wine distributor or say wine wholesaler and finally to the wine retailer. At all levels mark up is added. But the good news is import taxes are much lower than many parts of the world and thus you see US as one of the biggest wine markets in the world.
Job of a wine distributor is very state specific where most of the states allow only one wine distributor per brand. Thus a retailer can only buy that wine from its respective wine distributor for the respective state they are registered for.
The American three-tier distribution system is governed by the 21st Amendment of the United States Constitution. When the U.S. Congress first passed this law in 1933, this historic Constitutional Amendment overturned the infamous 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, passed 14 years before in 1919.
Wine Wholesaler / Wine Distributor Information Resources (Source TTB.gov)
Applying for a Permit - If you plan to purchase and sell alcohol at wholesale, you must first obtain a Basic Permit from TTB.
Alcohol Wholesaler Application Packet - Wholesalers (WHL), businesses which sell beverage alcohol products at wholesale to other wholesalers or retailers must first obtain a Wholesaler's Basic Permit.
Producers or manufacturers of beverage alcohol products need to apply for a Wholesaler's Basic Permit only if they intend to sell beverage alcohol products which they did not produce or manufacture.
Wholesaler/Importer (Alcohol): Businesses which require a Basic Permit for Importing (to import and distribute foreign beverage alcohol) and Wholesaling (to distribute at wholesale, domestic beverage alcohol) from the same location may reduce the required paperwork by combining the applications.
Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA), an leading trade organization in the US that works to oppose initiatives to alter the three-tier model, contends that wholesalers not only sell alcohol but also perform state functions and are in the business of encouraging social responsibility concerning alcohol.
At the state level, two legal approaches are taken. 32 states allow the private sector to distribute and sell alcoholic beverages, including such states as California, New York and Florida, among others via the three-tier wine distribution system. Elsewhere, 18 states have decided to adopt a so-called control distribution model, under which the state is involved in one or more tiers of the traditional three-tier distribution system noted earlier.
Control state markets like Pennsylvania and New Hampshire not only manage the distribution tier (and related tax revenue collections), but also the retail tier as well, while other control states like Michigan, North Carolina and Vermont all take slightly different approaches.
The following directory provides the contact information for each state and a link to their Web site. Please contact those states directly wherein you desire to do business.

BTN Guide on Wine Importers
BTN Guide on Wine Importers
A wine import company will source and purchase products from one or several foreign wineries in consolidated containers and will then sell the product to its network of distributors around the country.
A successful importer will also be responsible for implementing effective incentive marketing programs to support its distributors to maximize sales for the brands they import. Importers need to be treated as a partner if a winery wants to build a national brand. In most of the cases, a wine importer will also have team supporting chain calls to authorize wine in key national chains. Such support is appreciated by state distributors and does motivate the wine distributor to grow the brand.
All the wines that are imported by foreign land must be imported by wine importers.
Each country has its own regulations. BTN has a breif list of resources here in major markets where you can find more information. You can click on each country name to find more information.
USA - Information on Wine Importers, Wine Importation and How to become a wine importer.
UK - Businesses, organisations and individuals who want to sell or supply alcohol in England and Wales must have a licence or other authorisation from a licensing authority - usually a local council. The law and policy governing this area is overseen by the Home Office.
China - The Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Bureau of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) is the competent authority in charge of licensing and registering importers and exporters of alcoholic beverage products entering China.
India - Permit Branch issues Import permits for import of liquor into NCT of Delhi and Transport Permits for transportation of liquor from Bonded Warehouse to off/on site licensed consumption premises. The Licensees are L-6 (Retail Vend : 396 ), L-15 ( Hotel-Room Service : 82),L-17 (Restaurant : 460) and L-28 (Club : 48) etc. On an average 130 Import permits and 3000 transport permits are being issued daily.
Import permits are issued to the L-1 licensees on demand which is duly recommended by the inspector posted at Bonded Ware House.
Importing Bottled Wine into the U.S:
Please note: If you are importing beverage alcohol for personal use, please visit the Personal Importation page on TTB website.
The information below is intended for commercial importers of beverage alcohol.
Importers seeking to import beverage alcohol into the U.S. for commercial reasons must apply for an Importer’s Basic Permit.
For more details on these and other requirements which must be met by importers, please refer to the Questions and Answers (PDF)document for Importers. You can find up to date information on wine import requirements on the TTB website here.
Importers of natural wine produced after December 31, 2004, must comply with certification requirements set forth under the Miscellaneous Trade and Technical Corrections Act of 2004 to ensure that the practices and procedures used to produce the imported wine constitute proper cellar treatment.
Wine Importers (Alcohol): Anyone wishing to become a beverage alcohol importer (IMP), importing into the United States beverage alcohol not for personal use, and subsequently distributing the imported beverage alcohol to wholesalers or retailers, must file this application.
Wine importers also must also obtain a TTB-issued Certificate of Label Approval (COLA) for each unique product/label. To obtain a COLA, the importer must file an "Application for and Certification/Exemption of Label/Bottle Approval", on TTB F 5100.31 (PDF) with TTB’s Advertising, Labeling and Formulation Division (ALFD). The process may be done electronically, through COLAs Online, or by submitting a paper copy of the above form. Contact ALFD for more information on COLAs.
The importer must also meet all State and local requirements. State and local jurisdictions may have their own importation requirements in addition to Federal requirements. Importers must contact their State alcohol control board and/or local authorities for more information.
The importer must ensure that the producer of the alcohol beverage is registered with the FDA and provide FDA with advance notification of an importation. FDA administers these requirements which are part of the Bioterrorism Act of 2002. You may also visit the FDA’s Bioterrorism Act website for more information.
Importers are responsible for all applicable Federal excise taxes and duties. For more information on excise taxes, please see our tax and fee rates page. For information on duties, visit the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Duty Rates website.

Why is the sales representative selling your brand the most important person you have in your sales and supply chain?
Definition of a Beverage / Wine/ Spirit Sales Rep (for this article) - The Representative who is selling your beverage products to a Retail Customer (Liquor Store or Restaurant)
In a process format...
A Wine Maker, Brewer or an Entrepreneur has an idea of the product they are going to make. They put all their passion and energies in to making this product.
The Export Manager / Business Development Manager or Sales Manager work very hard to try and get importers or distributors for their brands.
The product comes to the distributor's warehouse and then the sales reps get briefed about it in their 'Friday' meeting.
The Sales Rep takes the new beer sample from the cooler, or the sample bottle of that new wine or spirit or the beverage andputs the bottle in his/her car and starts the Monday morning route.....
Lets pause here and consider a few factors --
a) A lot depends on the state of your sample bottle picked (that it is not a damaged product, not the wrong vintage, its not the Chardonnay where as the Shiraz was the one that got 90+ in that wine brand)
