Vacation will be missed but I am happy to be getting back into my usual routine. Getting back to the gym & making my own food😊 I'm coming home rejuvenated & in a healthier mindset than I've had in a long while. . I have decided to continue not tracking my meals..at least for a little while. When I first started working out, and making healthy choices in my diet, it was fun! It was about being healthy and happy and enjoying it. Losing weight & looking my best were an awesome side effect but it was about growing overall. With IIFYM, my fitbit & myfitnesspal I've had a lot of success, I've learned a lot about food & balancing my diet but over time its turned into something else.. I hate to say it but Ive developed an obsession for hitting the numbers. My focus made a shift to calories & macros & striving for those goals being perfectly reached. Always fearing gaining weight back.. leading me to be aiming for a deficit. Feeling anxious when life lead to a situation where i couldn't weigh out my food. I've been making excuses for the practice. Telling myself having that control tracking gives me is good for me mentally & i needed to be this way to be successful but when I took the first full day off since I started (the wedding day) & realized how much peace I could feel simply eating a plate of Turkey & veggies & not worrying how much each thing on my plate weighed or how many calories I was having made it clear how ridiculous this anxiety around food that I've been causing myself has been. Turkey & veggies are healthy foods & as long as I don't eat more than my body wants, it's a healthy choice! Avoiding almonds because of the calories despite their healthy properties, not eating sushi no matter how I crave it because I wouldn't know how to track it. None of that is healthy! So I need to take a step back. Learn to listen to my body again instead of just aim for numbers. Use the knowledge of food that all the tracking has given me to naturally make good choices. Work hard in the gym to make my body stronger & healthier not just to burn calories! It's hard to openly admit this is where my head has been...that alone tells me something HAS to change!

The plank jack burpee variation that kicked my booty yesterday. I started with 20 plank Jacks and then went into the 10 burpees. By that last one I'm pooped. I've accomplished so much the past couple years.. Things I never thought were possible for myself! & I really want to believe I'm capable of accomplishing everything else i dream of doing too.. I have struggled with depression and anxiety off and on for as long as I can remember. Anxiety has been more of a constant but the depression has come and gone like tidal waves through my life. Each time Its crashed into me Ive fallen hard, but each time I manage to get up I rise a stronger person, with a better understanding of myself. I just found out that may is mental health awareness month and it made me feel compelled to share something i wrote in my journal... "Someone who has never been depressed before may equate it saddness but they would be very wrong. From the outside depression can look like many emotions, most of them negative, and sad is one of them but to say they are the same is far too simplistic. Depression is physical as much as its mental. It is to have the energy that allows you to function as you always have zapped away from you. It is to be be emptied. It makes simple conversation feel like hard work. It hurts. it hurts the people you love most, And then it hurts you more. It is numbness, it is insecurity, it is frustration, it is anger, it is sorrow, it is guilt, it is fear, and sometimes it is smiling through all of it. It is everything wrong, and nothing, all at once. Depression is to lose yourself." Just because it's something you can't see doesn't make it any less of an ailment. Show sensitivity and compassion to your loved ones with mental health issues. Not just this month but always. That alone could be their best medicine.
