Reading that last line from MK I realized that two things are true:

a) It's a very, very, very good thing that DBK and PIF don't have Mac's hearing.

b) While Mac can filter out sounds to save himself from constant sensory overload, he may just be paying attention to his baby now, while Wukong is bitching about his "hard work" being ruined, so he may have heard that.

Soo...

"...can you believe that kid? I put in so much effort to make that outfit look proper. I, Sun Wukong, did that, and he rushed down the stairs without a thought! I mean of all the..."

Macaque and Wukong moved from the stairs to one of the table and Wukong wouldn't stop pettily blabbering about their son messing up his outfit, so he stopped paying attention to it, as endearing as it, was, focusing on MK, who was chatting with Mei and Red Son, the latter clearly dressed to impress.

"Here," Wukong shoved a glass of punch into his hand. "Look at him, with that robe askew! I mean, I put on so much effort and...and you're not even listening, are you?"

"It's like listening to a broken record," Macaque said, taking a sip of his drink.

"Hey!" Wukong gasped, offended.

"Oh, come on, look at him! He's happy! And since when does Sun Wukong care about being prim and proper?"

"Since I put effort into making him look presentable," Wukong huffed, "but, ok, ok, fine... he does look happy over there. Wait, why is Red Son blushing like that? Do they know what kind of a dangerous game they are playing? I mean DBK is right there!"

Macaque knew he should stop focusing on his kid and his not-yet-booyfriend immediately. But the thing with hearing was that, even with centuries of practice, he couldn't turn it off on command.

"...funny, I remember you saying the exact opposite last..."

Before he realized, he found himself choking on his drink, and then quickly moved so he was staying behind Wukong. If PIF noticed where he was looking and saw his reaction, it wouldn't bode well for the kids.

"Mac?"

"It's...nothing!" He muttered, unsure whether he should feel proud of his kid or give him another talk, all the while feeling incredibly awkward for the minor breach of privacy.

"I know you overheard something!"

"Tell you later, maybe. Now, if PIF asks, you said something incredibly stupid that made me do a spit-take."

"What? Why?"

"Because she already thinks you're an idiot and will probably buy it, And a bit of your pride is a small price to pay for preventing this coronation party from turning into a funeral!"

What inspired you to create the actor Wally? Was it in a person or character?

Hmm, I had to think back to late March for this.

I don’t know what I was thinking then but I knew I wanted him to have the same personality as Darla Dimple for entertainment reasons

I thought the idea of Wally secretly being a harsh person very interesting, something his character obviously doesn’t do.

I wanted somebody condescending while still being capable of caring for those close to him

Wally unapologetically makes himself a priority because you can’t help anyone if you can’t help yourself and putting yourself first doesn’t make you selfish.

His character is supposed to be evil and self preserving but thats hard to do when his life goal was to entertain and educate children and live comfortably with his friends forever. I made him with the intent of making people dislike him, but obviously it only worked a bit

I don’t know, I just wanted see his character put himself first and how people can change with each experience of life, for better or for worse.

A lot of his character was made as I kept going and I tried to accomplish some world building, of course, to but writing has never been my thing. The reason this au was started, was to satisfy my need for character analysis, only because I loved the characters so much but we hardly knew anything about them.

At first i imagined it being kind of a trauma response? I headcanon Macaque having a really difficult upbringing consisting mainly of him pretty much surviving on his own from the moment he was "born". The reason for his phobia was supposed to be a one of his first near-death experiences with another demon.

But then i kinda imagined him just... being unreasonably horrified of them with no explanation, like MK is scared of spiders. And having no idea why or how to overcome it, with Wukong bullying him in his butterfly form (guilt free!). And i kinda stuck with it since it's funnier.

So yeah, in my head it's just a fun silly headcanon now lol
