Day 4: Favourite to do #meetthemaker 1: allowing the process to have the last say (the acid, the copper) with etching and with my mirrors where the silver is hand poured which allows for spontaneous bruising 2: drawing with a needle onto the plate is so smooth and delicate, makes you feel like pencil and paper is heavy and tight in comparison. Day 3 #meetthemaker How you started: What kicked me into taking my art making on as my living, was a project I did at Uni which explored the deaths of animals and insects as a way of me exploring about how to cope with loss. I was struck by a fascination with mortality and the body as a material and this has kind of stuck! Part of the project was building a book which through a series of sculptural stitching, would turn the pages, to suggest the book of death was alive itself. This book I planned on making a few, so I wanted to learn about how to etch so I could experiment with a drawing as well as have a series of books. Discovering how to replicate a drawing made it easier to give my work away as I could still have a copy myself, yet each one would still hold a special something individually. Then I started running a market in Stokes Croft, Bristol , called Market at the Moon, and over the nearly 3 years I ran it, I was gaining more and more confidence and knowledge about selling my prints and sculptures on my own stall! Now I still do market stalls and sell my work in local galleries and shops and hope to find more new outlets this year. Day 2 (late!) Of #meetthemaker. Where: BRIZZLE! Bristol. England. I studied Drawing and Applied Arts until 2014 and have never left! A city bursting with creativity and beauty it is. I grew up in East Sussex/Kent where the air was a bit cleaner though and I do miss that. This is an etching with watercolour I did in 2015 when I lived on a boat with my cat. Happy happy days!
