It didn’t matter how slow her nights were going, she still got that little kick from taunting him.

“Not a single thing, pickpocketing is more of a cops business. It’s a little beneath a Slayer.” As long as there wasn’t any drained bodies turning up, Buffy couldn’t give a crap what petty crimes Spike was involving himself in.

“Agh, more like repulsive.” Nose crinkling in feigned disgust. That big old bleached head of his, didn’t need any more of an ego boost. “I didn’t realise you were the going out police. Don’t cuff me Officer, I swear it won’t happen again!”

"Give it up, Slayer. You know I'm not biting anyone with this thing in my brain... I mean, I could still pickpocket people, and might've already done it a few times." he confessed. "But what are you gonna do about it?" She might still beat the living hell out of him, but she would never stake him, not while knowing that he can't hurt her back.

"Well, I don't tend to frequent the shopping mall, too bright and loud. You could go there. Or you could try managing to simply resist the impossible temptation of staring into my handsome face." he teased. "Wait... did you come alone?"

Favourite thing about roleplaying?

The cooperative part of it in which we both surprise each other, and not just with each other's muses but with our own doing whatever the hell they want. For example us deciding to have an angsty NO I CAN'T BE WITH YOU thread and then your muses say exactly the right word that makes Emma go 'actually I'm changing my mind' which makes me go WHAT? and then yours says something that makes yours go DID YOU SEE, DID YOU READ, WHAT HAPPENS NOW and then Emma says something stupidly romantic and we are both all OH MY GOD IT'S HAPPENING EVERYBODY CALM DOWN

That part. The part where we left the characters follow their personalities instead of the planned plots and surprise each other, or answer memes in a way that the other person wasn't expecting and hit each other in the feels... and then come yelling at one another? I can't find that in writing fanfiction, though of course people yelling in the comments come close, but it's just... not the same. I can't surprise myself as much and it's more solitary to me than roleplaying is. Having the other person respond whether ic or ooc with some yelling is my favorite thing ever because we are having fun together!

Least favourite thing about roleplaying?

There are so many things I'm needlessly fight-y about that it's hard to pick the least favorite lol I'd say that I don't like when people don't read rules/about pages, because the roleplay community talks a lot about how we are all a bit anxious/insecure etc to explain why we don't talk much anymore (and btw I am too, but I also know that for anxious people not responding much is one way to reject the other person, so I push through and then give up if the other person never tries to initiate or sounds legit pissed off that I'm writing to them) and yet it's okay to not read rules and forcing a person to have to do the more embarrassing thing of saying, for example, 'I don't want to roleplay with that muse' (to a multimuse) or 'I don't want to ship that because he's mean to her/doesn't even seem to like her' or 'I'm sorry I'm not into that fandom anymore'. Like, I feel way more anxiety and annoyance at having to re-say things I wrote down EXACTLY TO AVOID THAT, because we are all very much socialized to just go along with it, than I do at pushing myself to ignore the thought that I'm annoying the other person if I go to plot with them so that we can actually write. If you aren't 'in the mood' to read long pages don't follow a blog with long rules. A game is only fun when you don't make the other players uncomfortable. And non mutuals trying to rp fall into this category too! Also because if I roleplay with one X character doesn't mean I'll roleplay with all portrayals of X character, or that I want to roleplay with all the muses that the person writing X character has, or with every similar character to X, so just... read rules, people!

Least favourite trope?

Now let's be clear, we are just talking about what's fun to me, there is no moral judgment here because it's just a matter of 'I like coffee you like tea', but the trope where the man 'finally' shuts up the woman who has a loud personality or is fighty or whatever to return to the status quo of her letting him take the lead because he's really good at kissing her or more, and it's clear that she's just yapping but has no real power in the relationship, instead of it being a 'we cooperate and like each other'? I'm trying to stay on the safe side of tumblr right now but... the concept that you can have male characters be stubborn and loud or fun and if they soften up for love it's so cool meanwhile with a woman this trope becomes putting her in her place because ultimately the man must be in charge? Nope. No. I'm not writing any of my female muses as secretly just wanting a man to take the lead, or as being their mindless cheerleaders who just cry if the man does something bad or beg him to change, but have no decisional power. And you have no idea of how many times in the past I've found myself writing other female muses who were way angrier/figthy and the male muse's intention was to in the end prove they were stronger so they'd stop being like that, or expect Emma who is all sunshiney to be just a supporting character. So I guess my least favorite trope is 'one member of the couple is just a supporting character to the other instead of an equal and specifically the woman if strong must learn that she's never going to be the one making the calls'.

I see it a lot LESS around tumblr now though, which is a relief (been here since 2012). It's why I'm so strict with who I interact with and who I ship with even if it's hard to tell nowadays, but I'm not picking any trope that will result in Emma being muted, like her when she's dumb or leave her.

Summary: Steve is dying, but what hurts the most is watching how it's affecting his family, his friends, everyone around him.

Nothing seems to be helping - not his community rallying around him, not magic itself, and not the devoted attention of Eddie Munson. Eddie is a rock and a hurricane in Steve's life. Steve might also be a little bit in love with him.

Then, one day when all other options run out, Eddie introduces him to one Billy Hargrove, and Steve's already-screwed-up life might be taking a turn. But is it for the better or for the more dangerous?

Notes: not all of Steve's chronic issues will be healed. He will always have some disabilities because I ain't about about that 'cure all' shit. They're just saving his life here.

Giles x teen!reader - a demigods fate

Part 6:

What was supposed to be a nice break from school for everybody turned into one hell fest for you, and you stumbled into Buffy.

“Well hey, what brings you by?” She asked.

You sat on one of the headstones as you watched her battle with the vampires.

“Just finished some monster, like fuck if I can remember the name.”

She nodded her head, throwing the vampire away from her so she could stake the one behind her and she looked at you.

“You wanna offer any help at all?”

“Not my circus, these are yours.”

She rolled her eyes, punching a vampire in the face while Shadow and Oris sat near you watching her.

“Hey, why won’t they came near you?” She asked.

You tossed the coin at her, and she caught the hilt of the now sword and swung it.

The vampire jumped back and began to run so she threw it, and just as the vampire turned to dust the sword vanished.

“Oh crap (Y/N) I’m sorry, I’ll find it.”

You waved your hand dismissively.

“Forget it, let’s go.”

“Your sword!”

“It’s fine slayer, let’s just go, I’m hungry.”

Buffy followed behind you.

“Actually same, where do you want to go?”

You shrugged, putting your hands in your pockets as you both began to make your way back to civilisation.

You both a place that was thankfully still open and sat down at a table.

“So, you never answered me about why they don’t come after you.” Buffy said.

“Even vampires and demons fear a demigod, our weapons can cut through anything regardless if it’s Greek origin or your ones.”

“Why?”

“I believe it may have something to do with whatever (Y/N)s sword is made from.”

You and Buffy looked over at Giles as he walked over, setting his plate down on the table and pulling up a chair.

He sat down and you both shared a look of confusion.

“Why are you here?”

“Well, I was hungry, and apparently trying to cook around a hellhound is near impossible.”

“You realise that they’re hunters right? If he’s getting in your way just tell him to stand down.”

At the meeting mention of that all three hounds walked over, laying nearby.

“Is.. is there some sort of manual on these creatures?” Giles asked.

“It’s a learning curve really.”

He nodded his head, and Buffy looked at him.

“So, what about the sword?”

“Well, whatever it is made off is extremely powerful, old, vampires and demons are aware of this, they know to mess with a demigod they would be messing with other creatures that have no care if they’re on the same side.”

Giles turned his attention towards you.

“May I have a look at the sword?”

“Actually I uh.. I lost it…” Buffy mumbled.

“You lost the sword?!” Giles whisper yelled.

You watched as the bickered back and forth, and you reached into your pocket, setting it on the table with a small clang that made the go quiet.

Giles reached out, picking up the coin.

“I.. I thought I lost it…?” Buffy mumbled.

“I assume this is the work of the gods?”

You nodded your head, picking some of the food from your plate you set it in a separate plate and looked around for somewhere to put it.

“There is a fire in the back, I saw you come in and I spoke with the staff, they understand it is for religious reasons.”

“You’ve been doing your homework.” You mused.

Taking the plate, you followed one of the staff through to the back and tossed the food into the fire, watching as it burnt.

Making your way back to your table you set your plate down as you sat in your chair.

“Chiron told me, I was able to get in contact with him and he gave me some advice on how we can make this place a little more like camp for you.” Giles smiled.

“Why?”

“Well, it can be hard to move to a new place, nobody like you around and nobody understands, Giles thought maybe Chiron could help us make Sunnydale a bit better.” Buffy smiled.

You nodded, picking at the food on your plate, looking around the place which was mostly empty.

Buffy and Giles spoke about vampires and her training, and you tuned the conversation out, noticing the man who was walking over.

Hermes held up some parchment, and he set it down on the table next to you making Buffy and Giles go quiet.

“Chiron just got this, he wanted you to have it as soon as possible.”

You saw the dark looked on his face.

“Hermes.”

“Sorry, I can’t tell you any more you know the rules.”

You stood up.

“What do you know?”

He carried on walking away, and you grabbed the parchment before Giles could, turning away so you could open it.

You carefully read over the words.

Furrowing your brows, you sat down.

“What is it?” Buffy asked.

You carried on staring at the words.

‘The child of the underworld is the key, their life seals the gate.’

“I… don’t really know…”

You turned around, putting it in your pocket.

“What did it say?” Giles asked.

You shook your head, taking your plate from your table and set it on the floor for the hounds and you pushed yourself away from the table.

“You two should get home before something finds you, I need to go.”

The hounds looked at you, and all three began to follow you.

“Shadow, Rig, stay with them, Oris come.”

Heading outside, you and Oris melted into the shadows, appearing at your apartment and you walked to your desk, taking the others out.

Looking at them, you walked to your wall with one at a time, sticking them up in the order the went.

“The hellmouth awakens, the monsters grow near. Something below becomes something above, the forbidden child sits in wait, the child of the underworld is the key, their life seals the gate.” You read aloud.

Oris whined, backing away from the wall and you walked over, crouching next to him, running your hand over his head.

“I don’t like it either…” you whispered.

Sitting down, you ran a hand down your face, staring at your wall.

Oris rested his head on your shoulder, leaning against you, and you sighed.

“I need you to fetch something.”

Oris sat up, walking around to look at you.

“The underworld, there’s a book, I need that book.”

He whined, backing up.

“Oris I need it.”

He huffed, and walked away into the shadows.

Pushing yourself up, you walked into your library and turned on the light, going over to the shelves to start looking for books.

You set them all on the floor next to a chair, and you carried on gathering anything that seemed even slightly helpful.

Once you had a good collection by the chair you sat down to start reading, waiting for the hellhound to come back.

When he did, he set the book down, and you noticed a note tied to his paw.

“Oris paw.”

He held it out so you could take the note and you took it.

“You don’t need to steal the books that may help, send Oris with a note. He has something else for you.” You mumbled.

Looking at the hound, he walked into the shadows and pulled out a box, sitting next to it.

You walked over, crouching down you went through the box of scrap metal.

“Celestial bronze…”

Getting up, you grabbed your bag and shoved it all inside before leaving once again.

Making your way down the stairs, you narrowed your eyes at how bright the sun was and began to make your way downtown.

Looking at the buildings, you found the one you were looking for and walked through the door, going through the front and into the back.

“Hey!”

A few of the people working stopped, seeing aside.

“What brings you by? I was told you were in town, never thoughts I’d see the Hades child here.”

The centaur walked over, offering you a warm smile.

“Celestial bronze, I need to know if it’s enough to make four weapons, daggers. Can you help Holden?”

He gestured for your bag and you handed it over, letting him dump it out on one of the work benches.

“It should be just enough, but I’m sorry I don’t have time to make them, with the demand so high for weapons right now we barely have time for anything else.”

“Just give me a work station I’ll do it, I’ll need a few materials but I can pay for them.”

Holden led you out your back door into a large open space that didn’t seem like part of Sunnydale.

“Take that one, everything you need is there no need to pay.”

You walked over, taking your jacket off you hung it up and put on one of the aprons and Holden brought your metal over so you could begin working.

And you were at it for days, working away, making the daggers one by one, setting them aside when you were finished.

When you were finished, you put them all into the scabbards you had made, and you finally stepped away from the table.

Throwing the apron aside you pulled your jacket on.

“Three days, I could really use someone like you. Aren’t you exhausted?”

“The joys of being a nightmare inflicted demigod.”

You picked up the newly made weapons and you put them into the bag Holden was holding out for you.

Once they were in there you took the bag, swinging it on to your shoulder and you held out a wade of cash for Holden.

“Thank you.”

“Anything else come back.”

You nodded and left, making your way back on to the street.

You were exhausted of course, but you never were one for sleep, so you walked through the Sunnydale streets.

You trudged your way to the school, making your way straight to the library.

“Three days late.” Xander said.

You glanced at him and stood in front of the table, setting your bag on it.

“I don’t want to offend you but you smell really bad (Y/N), what have you been doing?” Willow asked.

“Been working, here.”

You handed her one of the daggers, then handed Xander, Buffy and Giles theirs.

“You guys will most likely need these for your own protection.”

“They’re really light, what are they made from?” Buffy asked.

“Celestial bronze, kills monsters but won’t hurt anything else, so you can’t accidentally harm yourselves.”

You picked up your bag again, and you jogged up the shelves, heading to the section that Giles was building on Ancient Greek mythology.

“Are we going to discuss why you’re three days late?” Giles called up.

“There’s nothing to talk about, I’ve got crap to do!” You called back.

“Dollar in the jar!” He replied.

Putting some books into your bag, you jumped down, throwing a dollar into the jar he was holding out.

You began to go through the papers on the table, but seeing it was vampire related you grew board and put your bag on your shoulder.

“(Y/N) you’re going to get yourself in more trouble, it isn’t even the end of the first week.” Willow sighed.

“I’m busy.”

Before they could stop you you were gone, you went back home and set those books down with yours as you began to go through them.

You began to cross reference everything, creating even bigger maps and notes all over the walls of your apartment.

You were at it all night, and you finally fell asleep when the morning came, a few hours at most when you were woken up to something pulling your arm.

“Oris…” you whined.

The pulled stopped and you sat up, rubbing your eyes to look at the hellhound.

“Rig?”

He lowered his head to show you some papers tied to his back and you took them off.

“Shitty homework…”

Tossing it aside, you grabbed your jacket and coin, making your way outside to begin your patrolling.

Standing on someone’s house, you looked around for anything that might seem out of the ordinary, but you couldn’t, so you kept searching.

Buffy had been doing the same thing, so it was only a matter of time until the pair of you ran into each other.

“Shouldn’t you be in class?” You asked.

“Yeah, so should you. I won’t tell if you won’t.” She grinned.

Nodding, you jumped down from the wall you were on to walk in line with her.

“You know everybody’s worried about you, Willow and Giles are practically fighting to keep you from being expelled.”

“And you?”

Buffy shrugged a little.

“Snyder wants us both gone, you more than me right now.”

“It’ll give me more time.”

She sighed, turning around to look at you and you stopped.

“Come on, we’re both on the same side here, why can help each other right?”

“Buffy you’re it a demigod, yes you may have slayer strength, but these monsters will easily kill all of you.”

“Well, our handy weapons and hellhounds protect us from that.”

You shook your head.

“They won’t do much good Buffy, you know that. Monsters are drawn to me. They’ll leave you alone.”

“Right, except they want the hellmouth, and as the slayer that’s my job, I protect the hellmouth. You know the whole slayer thing here?”

You nodded.

“And as a Demigod it’s mine to do the shitty biddings of the gods.”

There was a loud rumble of thunder.

Looking up at the sky you stuck your middle finger up.

“Fuck you!”

A bolt of lighting struck next to you which made Buffy jumped back and you looked at the mark that was on the ground now.

“You really need to stop trying to piss them off.”

You shrugged, and the pair of you carried on wondering.

“So, you won’t come back to school?” She asked.

“What’s the point?”

“The point is you two are both in a vast amount of trouble.”

Both you and Buffy turned around to look at the librarian.

You turned you attention to the hound.

“You snitch.”

Rig barked, sitting next to Giles.

“Let’s go, you’re already in enough trouble, (Y/N) you are on the verge of expulsion, let us get back.”

You huffed and followed him along with Buffy

Lovers Walk isn't my favorite Buffy episode, but this particular stretch of Season 3 episodes (from Homecoming up to Graduation Day) is probably my favorite era of the show.

Partly (perhaps even mostly) that's just tied into my age when I first saw it, and all the resulting nostalgia and emotional resonances, but I do think this phase of the show represents the convergence of a few different trends: the show has a maturity and confidence now that it didn't always have in its first two seasons, but at the same time it still feels like it has interesting new things to say about its characters and it's still grounded in the high-school-as-literal-hell metaphor. This is probably my favorite iteration of the Scooby Gang (with apologies to Tara and Anya and Dawn), and it features probably my favorite Big Bad in the Mayor. Plus, you know, Faith's in this season.

(It's noticeable, too, I think, that we're still in the era where the show can, albeit just barely, still try to maintain the pretence that the current season's villain was around in the previous seasons but just acting behind the scenes. We had hints that Sunnydale's Mayor knew more about the supernatural than he should last year, and this episode we see the Mayor musing that Spike "was up to all sorts of shenanigans last year". Compare this to Season 4's Initiative arc, which just doesn't fit into previously existing continuity at all, or Season 5's arc, which makes it a plot point to actively rewrite that previous continuity in-universe.)

Even the episodes I don't love during this run are still really, really good. Even the episodes that I think are a little bit overrated are still good. Even the episodes without Faith in are good. Even the episode that (Season 2's Go Fish writer) David Fury wrote is good!

And Lovers Walk is probably one of the better episodes of this run. Yes, the plot itself is kind of weak (note in particular the multiple contrivances required for Oz and Cordelia to stumble in on Willow and Xander just as they kiss), but -- as with all the best Buffy episodes, the plot is not particularly the point. This episode is about characters and their relationships and metaphors and parallels and vampires giving monologues in not-entirely-convincing accents. That is what it promises and that is what it delivers.

Other scattered notes from my rewatch:

OK, Faith does not appear in this episode, but she clearly still exists in the world, in a way she very much didn't in Band Candy: the fact she could take over from Buffy as the Slayer if Buffy leaves town is brought up for the first time since Faith, Hope & Trick and will continue to be an issue on and off for the rest of the season in one way or another. My guess is that the writers decided to expand Faith's role either just before or just after Revelations, which is why she can't just vanish without a word now and why she'll be mentioned in every episode she doesn't appear in between now and the end of the season (with the notable exception of Gingerbread, which I suspect might have originally been intended to appear slightly earlier in the season than it actually did, in much the same way that Go Fish was originally written to appear before Angel lost his soul in Season 2).

Buffy's SAT scores are probably a little implausibly high (even though, yes, the show has consistently shown us that Buffy is actually very smart and cares about doing well in school, preparation and practice and revision are still huge factors in doing well in these sorts of standardized tests and Buffy simply hasn't had the time to do this) and, equally, I don't think the sorts of colleges Giles and Joyce are talking about Buffy going to now would ignore her entire academic record and lack of (non-vampire-related) extracurriculars simply because she has a very high SAT score. On the other hand, I really like the idea of Buffy going to college (both next season and/or post-Chosen) so on balance I simply don't care about this.

I said I wouldn't dwell on the details of the plot, but come on: the writers needed to have Giles be away on a convenient retreat (so that Oz and Cordelia would have to drive to fetch him) and have Oz develop brand new magical werewolf senses (so he could track Willow down by scent, from inside his van?), just to set up the scene of Oz and Cordelia walking in to the factory to rescue Xander and Willow at exactly the wrong moment? They couldn't just have Buffy call them up at the library from her Mom's house and suggest they head to the factory? (The factory in which she already suspects Spike has them hidden?)

Yes, it's very silly and yes, given later behind-the-scenes events it's kind of in bad taste, but I can't lie: I think the funeral fake-out scene for Cordelia is very, very funny.

Willow's attempted "de-lusting" spell -- which she explicitly wants to cast on Xander without his consent -- is a good bit of foreshadowing for Willow's character arc in Season 6, and equally Xander's horrified reaction to finding out that Willow is planning to do some sort of love spell is a nice bit of continuity with last season.

"I can fool Giles, I can fool my friends, but I can't fool myself," says Buffy of her feelings for Angel, having spent the last two episodes very clearly failing to fool either Giles or her friends but apparently doing a pretty good job of fooling herself.

here’s a plot wishlist of things i’m thinking about lately but would prefer to plot than write opens for. i’d also prefer to plot on discord but it’s not entirely necessary since obviously i’ll be writing on this account. some of them are kind of variations of the same thing but i think it makes it clear what kind of stuff i really love lmao. if you like this i’ll im you, but even if you like a lot of them it would be amazing if you could whittle it down to 2-3 tops. reblogging and messaging people when i’m online in the morning!

hot & heavy by lucy dacus inspired — the angst of your first love, homoerotic teenage best friend angst coming back to haunt you, bitterness and nostalgia mingling in the worst way, you hate her and you still love her after all this time. optional: period piece (70s, 80s, 90s, early 00s), a dead friend dragging them back to town, one of them is still closeted. 

fear street inspired — small towns where dark, horrible things have happened and keep happening but not everyone can afford to clear out, young people taking on a legacy of evil in the name of love, the truth of the past being unearthed, the loss along the way. optional: period piece (90s), we can run with something similar to fear street in terms of why the killers exist or come up with our own thing. 

college sleuths — a body found in a classroom or maybe an old unsolved mystery, a small campus cradled by woods and hidden from the world, a desperate need to uncover what everyone else wants to cover up, a righteousness or maybe an obligation to the dead, an eventual game of cat and mouse as they creep closer to the truth. optional: literally everything i listed can be tweaked, i just love the idea of a pair of people (even reluctantly) solving a murder. 

scooby doo inspired, college cryptid/supernatural hunters  — they’re the only ones who believe and maybe that’s okay, could be a mumu/could utilise npc characters if we’d like a group. optional: more of a buffy style scooby gang who are solving problems/include creatures in it. 

dark academia, the secret history inspired  — 

zombie apocalypse romance... with a twist on top of that — what’s more romantic than finding your soulmate at the end of the world? well, i guess if she’s also an unhinged person who will murder humans too, if they cross her. finding out she killed her last s/o somehow doesn’t phase you. basically: muse a has met someone after so long alone but muse b is a little crazy and they get into shenanigans. 

thoroughbreds inspired — unsettling girls forming a strange bond in rekindling a childhood friendship, uncomfortable step fathers, murder as a tool to solve problems rather than a ghastly act, taking blame as a romantic gesture. gifset for fun inspo. 

a return to the hurt/comfort fanfic tag. i’d like to explore deeper things while also dealing with the relationship between two characters. optionally but not limited to: grief, abuse (tentatively and with discussion about parameters), child custody issues, divorce, etc.

I would suppose maybe Buffy, only because I have two Buffy muses on here, but have also written many other Buffy muses at various points in time and at one point my Lucy was a Buffy OC. I do have a lot of other muses that are canon/come from different fandoms, and I have no problem considering a fandom muse if it speaks to me.

Helen and Tatum are definitely the popular girls. I headcanon that aside from being a pageant queen, Helen was also a cheerleader. Possibly even cheer captain. Mallory, Ruby, Jericho, Rue, Nova, Nancy, Santana, and probably a few that I'm leaving out would've been the goth kids. Drusilla, despite being a Victorian era vampire, would've probably been a theater kid (just look at how she dresses and how dramatic she is). Mindy takes after her uncle to a good degree but is well liked by her peers. Theo would've been somewhere in between an artsy kid and a popular girl, simply because of how she dresses. Marilyn is that one kid that's not the dictionary definition of a popular girl, but is still popular among the student body due to the fact that she is so kind to everyone regardless of what stereotype they belong to and has friends in various different cliques. I know I have a lot of muses I'm not listing here, but that's only because this is what I'm thinking of off the top of my head.

I have a headcanon somewhere that Rue & Nova are ex's so there was definitely some love there once. In my verse with @lettherebemonsters Brenda & Helen are in love. Santana & Ruby would probably make an interesting couple. Mallory would kill almost any of my muses, as would Brenda, Magdalena, and Dru. Glory isn't really one for killing as much as she is just draining them of their sanity and turning them into her puppets.
