she imagines it's weird. can't help but wonder if this is the first place enobaria has stayed that doesn't understand what being a victor means or what it takes to be one. those in district eight had never quite looked at cecelia the same, no matter what she did, but in two and one? it felt like there was a victor or someone who knew them on every corner.

the chuckle that leaves her mouth as enobaria speaks catches her by surprise. she never had the taste for comments like that from the other victors before but here, it's oddly familiar and comforting. "they'll come around," it's easy. to fall into the role of support, offering a platitude or two even when she feels a little bleak about the situation, "or we'll be useful and they won't have a reason to say anything."

enobaria barks a laugh, sudden and wry. “at least i'm not the only one,” she says. 

she sighs, heavier, and then says, “everyone's walking on eggshells around me. they all think i'm going to go running back to the capitol. or that i'm going to rip out their throat.” she raises her fingers, touches her lips — she didn't smoke that often before, only socially, only in the capitol, but the past few weeks she's found herself longing for a cigarette, desperate for something — anything — to take the edge off. “please. i only did that once.”

not that enobaria hasn't thought about doing it again; not that she hasn't been tempted to rip out the throat of an overly touchy capitolite or district thirteen citizen who kept muttering about how she was a traitor under their breath every time she passed. but she hadn't, and that was what counted.

Cecelia's eyes were damaged by the weeks in the cave environment of the arena, for months afterwards she was wearing veils, hats with rims or glasses that provided extra protection from the light. It also worsened her already short sighted vision.

logically this would have been fixed by the capitol but i am so convinced cecelia needs glasses but she doesn't get them until after the rebellion
