Summary: Zoro had entered the sweepstakes never expecting to win; a plot of land in a scenic valley near the ocean, land that he could cultivate and grow and have space for himself. So when he wins and leaves his dead-end job, he’s only hoping for a chance to work with his hands and nourish his soul. Zoro didn’t expect to fit so well into the community of Sunnytown, didn’t expect to meet a sour cook named Sanji… and never expected to like him so much despite himself. Sometimes love grows in the most unexpected places.

Summary:

At first, Sanji thought all his smoking was finally catching up to him. In the aftermath of Thriller Bark, he found himself burning through more than two packs of cigarettes a day, and he developed a sharp cough that ached deep in his lungs, but Chopper was too busy taking care of that shitty swordsman to spend time on anyone else.

After the disaster of Sabaody, Sanji needed to get back to reunite with his crew, but those damn Kamabakka pirates seemed to have taken an interest in him. Or more accurately, they were very curious about the nature of Sanji’s cough. When he coughed up a bloody flower petal one day they were very quick to ask him who he’s in love with. But Sanji didn't understand; he wasn't in love with anyone, and what would that have anything to do with mysteriously coughing up a flower petal?

Well, as it turns out, it could all be summed up into one word: Hanahaki.

Zoro frowns, but doesn’t do anything to get away from Sanji’s grip. “I’m fine,” he says but it sounds slightly garbled with Sanji’s hands squeezing his cheeks. Sanji move his head so that they’re face to face and Zoro– Zoro blushes. Hard.

zoro:

he notices that he has no balance what so ever, he’s used to a heavier body built on muscle

his vision feels normal though, sanji has had his bangs cover one of his eyes forever so it’s not unlike when he lost his own eye

he can distinctly feel too much, he feels how the dust and dirt sticks to him in a way he can’t shake, faint crawling of ghost bugs on his body and he takes more showers then he likes to admit

when he wakes up if he doesn’t eat right away he gets sick- a repercussion to sanji s starvation

strangely when he picks up a sword when sanji isn’t looking it feels familiar- not like his intense muscle memory but that sanji knows how to use a sword above any class beginner

he cant not keep still, if he stays still too long he can feel the phantom aches in his body, the overstimulation of dirt

he ends up overextending by accident a lot, it’s funny at first because how flexible he is- but he’s not used to having to control the small joints so not to hurt himself (que him dislocating something because no, your body can’t just stretch like that unless you do it properly)

he notices he has a small appetite but if he doesn’t eat when needed he will get sick very quickly (ah that’s why sanji always makes excuses to have snacks for the ladies and everyone)

he gets trapped once, it’s nothing unlike he’s used to. but the walls, the tight space, this body knows this feeling and it just gives out on him

when he gets ready for bed he is always baffled why sanji sleeps with his shoes on. little did he know how nasty and brutal sanjis feet ended up (ballet feet)

why can’t he turn off his observation haki?

constant need to feel physical touch but also being repulsed by it when it happens

turns out the cook does in fact just have constant nose bleeds and if he gets too emotional or riled up it just happens. this is a awkward moment when some lady tells the crew her husband just dies and zoros nose starts bleeding

sanji:

he cant see his toes (tiddies too big)

his spacial awareness is terrible he keeps bumping into things

he has intense head splitting migranes that only a nap could help (hmmm thriller bark…) and maybe a drink

a need to work out, to sweat out toxins from his body

accidentally breaks too many things since it’s just sheer force of strength

he gets cramps way too much and can barely do a simple stretch

in battle he can’t help but notice the slight increase in heartbeat- he thinks originally it’s just cuz of adrenaline but he knows that feeling. and this one is fear, every battle no matter how strong he is in this body feels fear every moment- not for himself but those around him

he has to check on everyone no matter what- it’s weird because he does that too but this is more of a subtle pull to do it, a slow meditation of going through each member to make sure they are ok

always being touched by luffy and others to be buddy buddy, he doesn’t have much to cover him and the warmth is unlike something he’s felt in so long (usually one to cover up because he can just feel too much)

he is still a great chef but only in food prep. his hands are too clumsy for much else, and his body is bigger when trying to move in the kitchen

on top of cramps, he keeps pulling muscles (seriously does he never stretch this body?)

he also gets tired quicker- endurance isn’t as lasting when this body focuses on attacks that count on brute force

he cant feel his torso, turns out mihawk really made sure zoro remember by cutting off the nerves

Hey, I'm back!

Anyways, genderswap zosan,

where fem!Sanji tries to test something out by getting fem!Zoro's attention but it kinda works but not in the intended way (but it's very dumb because I'm very dumb) :

Sanji goes by the logic of "the bigger the boobs, the better" and stuffs her bra as much as she can without making it seem too obvious. Zoro walks in at breakfast and acts exactly the same. Sanji doesn't want to get disappointed so she just brushes it off as everyone being hungry and sleepy. So she tells her to stay and help her with the dishes.

So she does and while doing so Sanji unbuttons a few buttons to try and see if Zoro will have a reaction. But she doesn't even look at her chest for a second. She's acting exactly the same. Sanji starts getting a bit annoyed at this point but thinks maybe a more direct approach would work.

S: So... do you notice something new with me?

Z: ...

Z: You did your hair differently.

S: Mmmno, try again

Z: Uh... new shoes?

S: No.

Z, sweating bullets: I don't know??? You brushed your eyebrows?

Sanji, absolutely infuriated stomping, making Zoro back away so much that she falls seated on the couch. She gestured to her chest.

Z: That's not a new shirt, I'm sure of it.

S: My tits! How did you not notice I grew one cup size overnight?! How did you not look at my boobs even once?!?! Stop looking at me in the eye, I unbuttoned two buttons for you and you still didn't see!

Z: You got new breasts? Okay, if you're happy I'm -

S: No you idiot! I wanted to see if it made any difference, to see how much you notice changes!

Z: All I noticed was that you were happy this morning, which I first thought it was because you weren't on watch duty and you've usually slept better when you've not been there for two nights. Then you got weird and cryptic glancing at me. I thought it was because one of your favorite knives had gotten duller since you cooked that big bird, or maybe because you asked Nami if bangs would suit you and everyone said no, so I thought if I help you with chores you'll be happy but you got angry at me again! Why just me?

S: Wh- how do you notice all that but not care about this!?

Z: I don't care how curvy you are, you're still the same.

S: I've been wearing padding all this time, even Usopp noticed and asked! You mean you don't care about how I look?

Z: Why should I? I don't like you for you're looks!

S: Because I do!... I do (she added quietly) And I can't - if I'm this shallow, then why aren't... I... (she sighs)

Z, giving her a tight hug: I think you're beautiful... inside and out, if that helps. And I don't think you're shallow...

Hello Melon! I’ve been shamelessly stalking your blog lmao and I just? Loooooove you analysis of Sanji and of Sanji/Zoro dynamics. I’m a huge Zosan shipper lmao but also seeing them _objectively_ makes me insane because like? They’re so intertwined, their stories and characters are just so connected ever since the beginning. Like what you described of Sanji being inspired by Zoro’s fight w Mihawk, and now Zoro having the weight of Sanji’s life on his shoulders just- Aaaah yknow? And GOD finally I get someone that feels like Zoro needs a breaking point!!! I’ve discussed this w friends and they’re always like “but the nothing happened! And the begging to Mihawk!!” And I’m like no!!! That didn’t break Zoro!! If anything that made him stronger, wiser. I need to see that man break fr, and I have a (horrible, I might say since he’s one of my OP faves) feeling that Oda will eventually deliver, and we’ll suffer. I don’t even know what I wanted to say really lmao but yeah thanks so much for sharing all your thoughts about these two, big fan.

How many words have you written this year? me: sees this question and immediately whips out the phone calculator this year i wrote 39,118 words! nowhere near as much as the freakish anomaly that was 2022, but still nothing to sneeze at ;) this is also not counting a SECRET WORK that i cannot reveal yet... that puts me at 41,208 heehee

2.How many works did you publish this year?

a nice, even 10!

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

because of the nature of the reverse bang and getting to create a fic for someone else's art, i am very proud of both rose-tinted and play pretend. particularly play pretend, because i think i achieved the princess bride vibe i was going for.

then of course i am so proud of myself for venturing into the one piece world with i'll leave it to you, which i don't consider to be good very at all but it marks the point where i took a little leap and shared something in a new space! growth!

4. What work of yours has the most hits?

only human, no contest. such is the nature of multichapter and big bang works xD

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

i'll leave it to you was so unexpected! with hxh being a relatively quieter fandom, i had no idea i would get as much engagement on a silly little oneshot in the one piece fandom as i did. bizarre.

goes to show that metrics like kudos and comments and hits are all fake and you should just write what makes you happy.

not so bad (after all) is such a good, classic something (something else) ao3 title xD

7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?

y'all. i'm being so for real when i tell you i am SHOCKED AND AMAZED at the fact that i did not use one single song lyric this year. what happened.

hmmm only the one that's been sitting in my wips for nearly 3 years now. librarian/florist au i will destroy you.

my longest work this year is my hxhbb fic, only human, which sits at 16,724 words.

omg so fun. conversely, my shortest work this year is the figurine disaster, a fic written for the greed island challenge server i help shal and liv run! this one has 1,221 words.

LEORIO!!!!! i had so much fun with leorio this year, i'm so glad i found my rhythm with him this year because every fic with him has been so much fun to think about.

oof i think i butchered melody, tbh. not so bad (after all) was SO HARD to write because i didn't know who the hell melody was deep inside the way i felt i did leorio, so it feels really unbalanced imo. however, i am still proud of that work and i think the one person it was written for enjoyed it, so that's all that matters!

19. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?

leozep... more zosan... shuggy... i read this question wrong and therefore will not choose one

through sheer force of will in editing, i suppose only human.

YES SOBS. my dear sweet selkie wrote me THREE gifts this year and then some friends in the greed island server came together with gifts!!! for mods!! where Fathomless_Crazy wrote Paint This Paling Town and i wept about it

i think this year i was a total weirdo and sat in silence. i do have a tunes for typing playlist though with no words to distract me that's just a mix of classical, videogame and anime soundtracks, and some random lofi

maybe rose-tinted? or honestly the figurine disaster was kind of funny. although i did really have fun with i'll leave it to you. GAH.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

oh christ. after brief reflection, i think the following chunk from my most recent fic and foray into the one piece fandom, i'll leave it to you, wins. the drama!! the angst!!

The reality is, Sanji has no idea what he’s doing, or even if he’s helping Zoro or just making everything worse. His hands, his goddamn fucking hands still tremble, and no amount of nicotine can help him now and—god fucking dammit Zoro is just bleeding through all the bandages Sanji is wrapping around him, staining a silk tiger crimson. So he keeps wrapping. There is nothing left for him to do but use up all the goddamn bandages he has. Sanji isn’t a god-fearing man, but as he works he is praying to whatever gods favor Wano—or don't, given what he’s seen of this desolate country—that he isn’t paralyzing or killing Zoro as he works.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

probably that i didn't do very much of it this year! i don't know where all the time went... through this it was a pleasant surprise to find that over half of my fics this year were gifts, so that's fun!

Calling his ex-boyfriend to drive him to the airport was not Zoro’s first choice. But due to unfortunate mishaps and wrong hotel directions, it was the only way he was going to make his flight in time to compete at the national kendo championships the next day. Thankfully, by some small miracle, Sanji agrees to drive him.

But when Sanji’s car breaks down on the highway, neither of them could anticipate the adventure that would ensue when tow truck driver Luffy picks them up. Faced with fleeing the cops, driving off a bridge, sailing through a thunderstorm, and making it through dinner with a lady in a swamp, Zoro and Sanji need to work together to survive the day.

Will Zoro still make it to the competition on time?

Only if they jump out of a flying plane.
