my brain: zoro says he doesn't believe in god but he's been luffy's first and most devoted follower since the day they met. he was a wandering bounty hunter with no actual way of achieving his goal until he met luffy, who had nothing to offer but his dreams and a place in his nonexistent pirate crew. and zoro, who had every reason to cut him down, instead let himself be led by nothing but two rubbery hands and a too-big smile. zoro was the first person to ever call luffy "pirate king"; not future king of the pirates, the pirate king, and he did so as he dedicated his first huge defeat to luffy and has been doing the same for every victory that's followed. he's the most quiet in his affections but his loyalty can never ever be questioned because while he's willing to lay his life down for his captain, it's his willingness to live for luffy that shows how much he understands what his captain needs from him. he may call luffy an idiot and complain about having boarded the wrong ship but no one can deny that the boy who went out of his way to ask demand that he join his crew has become zoro's true north.

Au where you're pulled towards your soulmate, kinda like magnets.

So like, Zoro actually had a pretty good sense of direction when he was a kid. Not matter where you put him, he always knew where North was and could go wherever he wanted, but that changed when he turned 8. No one had no idea why, and Zoro was also completely clueless because he was always being pulled north, but then it just... Changed places one day. It kept moving around for a while until it settled somewhere else. And whatever it was that was pulling Zoro that way had always been north, so he just went Alright Guess The World Can Move Around and didn't question it. So he went on with his life, with his north sometimes shifting around.

When the cook joins the crew, it gets worse because now the north is always where Sanji is and the shitty bastard can always find him no matter where or how far Zoro goes.

And Zoro has no idea why his feet always seem to take him where Sanji is, why he always ends up in the galley at the end of the day, sitting on the floor, just watching the cook work, just existing near him.

And then they kiss for the first time, and he finally understands that Sanji has always been his north

Easily one of my favorite things about Zoro and Luffy (not necessarily in a shipping context, though *I* enjoy them in a shipping context) is the way they seem so different on a surface level - this whimsical sunshine boy captain and his big, stoic, serious right hand man - but when you actually get to know them, they’re pretty much two halves of the same weird goddamn idiot

Specifically, I love that whenever Luffy is doing / saying something totally absurd, there’s a not insignificant chance that we’re about to cut to Zoro, whether he’s two steps away or halfway across the island, doing the exact same unhinged shit, and it’s so goddamn funny every time???

Zosan coffee shop AU where zoro works at Namis coffee shop to pay off a debt (he broke her tv or some shit)

From Zoros perspective: every time Sanji comes in, he orders a new drink and zoro thinks he’s just being a dick by changing it up so often but jokes on Sanji because he has a little binder with the different recipes. Curly is always smirking when he gets his drink so Zoro KNOWS he’s doing good.

From Sanjis perspective: the first day he ordered a latte but zoro made a mocha. The next time he comes in he orders a mocha but zoro makes a macchiato. It’s so different that it HAS to be intentional. Every time he orders, zoro makes the wrong drink and sanji just orders that the next time. He thinks they’re playing some sort of game / flirting.

2 weeks in zoro realizes he’s been making the wrong drinks the whole time because Nami finally sees him make a cappuccino when Sanji ordered a drip coffee (literally how did he fuck it up this bad) and zoro is just more confused as to why Sanjis been smiling when he gets the wrong drink

luffy n zoro r honestly such peas in a pod. ex demon pirate hunter n son of the devil raising hell together. they both take naps anywhere at anytime (including the middle of the street). big big dreams. one always asks for food the other always asks for drinks. if u gave them five minutes to collectively decide which way was south was they'd somehow end up in a hole in the ground. immovable object who would rather die than admit defeat in battle zoro and unstoppable force who hurls himself into everything headfirst luffy. the matching wicked grins when they're about to beat somebody's ass. both actively searching for danger / adventure. one hides his intelligence with silliness the other hides his silliness with toughness. & most importantly dumbasses who wuv each other <3
