Quar!

When I was a teen, my folks took me to a wargaming convention and there was this booth for a smaller company called Zombiesmith. I loved the books and art for the Quar line, picked up some, the signed rulebooks, and sat on them for over a decade.

Now, with the recent Wargames Atlantic collaboration? Acquisition? Whatever, Quar is something I've seen around on the 'net recently. So, I've dug out my old Coftyrans and given them a modern coat of paint. Here's a Rhyfler

Drunkenly staring at the Zombiesmith website thinking about how neat it would be to have some 15mm Quar armies, to go along with the 28mm Quar squads I have. Look at these tiny guys:

I painted 6 more of my Quar this weekend.

Here are three more Coftyrans, including the “yawdryl” in the middle, which is just their word for sergeant.

Here are three more of my Crusaders.

The mushrooms on the bases are just pieces of sprue with blobs of green stuff on top of them. The hatless/helmetless heads and some of the arms, aren’t from the plastic kit, they are actually 3D printed bits that the creator of the series, Zombiesmith, sells the files for or you can just order them directly from their website. Also not so much with these 6, but some of my other Quar have some bags and pouches and stuff from my left over Bolt Action bits.

When both squads of ten are all done I’ll post them all together.

Just a heads up in case you were considering any of the old metal model range of the Quar! The older metals in the 28mm range are smaller than the 28mm new plastics! They also don’t come with bases, so I’d recommend buying some from Wargames Atlantic before grabbing any of the metals from Zombiesmith.

They’re close in size to the plastics, but they’re a little shorter and the heads are much, much smaller. Still, awesome sculpts!

Short!

I started building my Quar last night, I don't know what I was expecting but these guys are tiny! Here's a Space Marine for scale. The Quar bases are also shorter than the GW bases, but still.

And here's a Grot for scale as well. I built my 12 Crusaders, next I'll work on the Coftyr half of the starter set. All 24 models should easily fit in the box with the rule book and accessories it comes with.

I'm looking forward to painting these dudes, they should paint up really quickly.

Quar: Battle for Gate 18 Dated for PlayStation VR

Last month Funbox Media revealed that Steel Wool Games’ Quar: Battle for Gate 18 will be coming to PlayStation VR later this year. It’s now been confirmed that the virtual reality (VR) strategy title will make its console debut with a retail boxed edition on 27th October 2017.

Based on the award winning Table Top Game system This Quar’s War by ZombieSmith, Quar: Battle for Gate 18 is a turn-based strategy videogame. The title includes a story mode which plays through 12 levels of tactical defence and attack, from small outposts to trenches and night time battles. A wide variety of units is at your disposal as you battle your way to Gate 18.

Quar: Battle for Gate 18 launched alongside the HTC Vive last year. VRFocus delivered a review of Quar: Battle for Gate 18 at that time, stating: “Quar: Battle for Gate 18 is an easy recommendation for the HTC Vive, with the hope that Steel Wool Games will expand upon the formula in the months to come.”

Coftyran Cryfen LMG Rhyfler. It's quite nostalgic painting heavy metal minis again, which is largely why I'm doing "normal" bases instead of fancy 3d printed ones

My favorite would be like Sister Morphine, Factory Girl, Stray Cat Blues, Love in Vain, Moonlight Mile, Emotional Rescue. I love a lot more but these are the ones that come to mind. I love the Stones :)

Thankfully the examples on their site are painted, and I wanted to stick as close as I could to source material, mainly for nostalgia reasons

Woah, all my Quar posts got noticed a bit today. Thank y’all for the Quar love, and expect more anteater guys to be posted soon. Work’s been real hell lately, so I haven’t had much paint time or willpower to do any. That said, I did get some resin prints from Zombiesmith, and they’re great! Take a look!

Love this little Crusader with his LMG slung over his shoulder, a sad droop to his head, wishing he was back in the fields tending to the moths his ma would bake into moth cakes for him. What a charmer, right?
