Zombie Spider

The zombie spider (usually a cellar spider) is infected by an entomopathogenic fungus. The spider can, for a little while, survive while the fungus eats through its tissues. While this is happening, the spiders survive in a zombie-like state. Once dead, the fungus can spread to other nearby spiders.

PARASITIC SPIDER

I’m jumping on the Spidersona train again now that I actually have a sense for character designing again [even though I haven’t seen the movie yet (edit: SAW THE MOVIE, IT ROCKED)]

This is Ashley Addams, better known as Spider Gothika.

As mentioned in his ref, Gothika was a genetic scientist who tested on pholcus spiders that had been taken over by zombie fungus (which, fun fact, are cordyceps transmitted from zatypota wasps) and got bit by one of the spiders he had been mutating, which not only gave him the typical Spider-Man abilities of walking up walls and super strength, but he can transmit the virus to other people and turn them into fungus zombies. He’s immune to the virus, and doesn’t often intentionally give it to people (since he doesn’t really want to start a zombie apocalypse) but the knowledge of this ability has made him an enemy of the police and the news. And, as far as the cape goes, I just thought it was really cool since he’s goth.

A little bit of his non-spidey story, Gothika is Native American and goth (like me), and was originally going to be lighter-skinned (also like me), but I decided not to make him as pale as me since I’m pretty self-conscious about it and it just felt kinda wrong. I still don’t know what his “canon event” would be, but I know it would have something to do with the genetic testing he was doing. Perhaps there was a lab accident and his best friend died, or he accidentally gave the virus to someone he cared about. Maybe just go with the uncle Ben style death and have it be something he easily could’ve prevented but didn’t. Who knows! Either way, he’s sad! Because what Spidey isn’t?

Tony, turning away from Steve after finishing with the boards on his side: alright kid, let’s- what are you doing?

Peter, playing with a zombie while hanging upside down: That’s right! Who’s a good boy? Who’s a good boy! You’re a good boy!

Tony, pinching the bridge of his nose: Peter, that is not a puppy, nor will it ever be a puppy. It is going to EAT you.

Peter: whaaat? No! (Queue the zombie trying to bite him) HEY! NO. Bad zombie, BAD ZOMBIE! We don’t bite! Bad!

Steve, shaking his head: Tony, what is wrong with your kid?

Tony: I… don’t know. I just let him do whatever. Hey, kid! You web that thing’s mouth shut and you can keep it.

Peter: YAY!
