#zoe even had an outburst which is out of character for her

I've been thinking about those deadly sins poll you did awhile back and I decided to put my two cents into who I would say is each sin
Pride - Russell - my interpretation of him is that while he is very prideful in his organization skills, he does tend to be a know-it-all and even flat out condescending, which annoys the others to no end. He also likes being the "leader" of the group and being the one everyone turns to, if someone is shown to be more organized/smarter than Russell he would definitely feel threatened. But he's not just prideful of what he does, he's also very proud of his friends and tends to brag about them in conversations sometimes "Yeah, my friend is a model AND singer. Why do you ask?" "Oh, you're the parent of that one kid with the magician at his birthday party? Yeah, that's my friend. Pretty impressive stuff, huh?"
Greed - Minka - I mean... yeah. Have you seen how she is with shiny stuff? I kind of have nothing to add here tbh :/
Lust - Zoe - I think some people missed the assignment of that poll. Guys, she gets heart eyes at some unfortunate guy that crossed paths with her and now she declares that they're soul mates, she is literally MADE for lust :(
Gluttony - Penny - ehhhhhh I really didn't want to put Penny for gluttony but I kinda had no choice. Gluttony doesn't really fit her, but it doesn't really fit any of the other pets either. It just feels... fatphobic to place the chubby one as gluttony. I'm sorry girl 😔
Envy - Pepper - >:) hehehehe. Pepper just screams envy to me. And she has been canonically jealous in the show. It's something, okay??? And I headcanon that she has a MAJOR problem with comparing herself to others. Why can't she be as smart as Russell, as attractive as Sunil and Zoe, as kind as Vinnie and Penny, or as creative as Minka. She'd be lucky if Mitzi and Clement even look her in the eye, they could turn around and date any of her friends, and she wouldn't even even blame them. Every person she comes across, she always finds some way to compare herself to them. Why wouldn't she? Literally every single person in the goddam universe is better than her in some way while Pepper is a selfish asshole that no one wants to look at for more than two seconds
Wrath - Vinnie - Anger issues for the king. I think that during one of his outbursts, he ended up accidentally hurting one of his friends. And he has never forgiven himself, no matter how many times his friends assure him it's fine and nothing a little rest can't fix. And Vinnie brings the person he hurt all kinds of gifts, their favorite things, favorite food, etc. It legitimately scares Vinnie because his outbursts are uncontrollable, and he wouldn't be able to live with himself if he hurt someone again, or worse
Sloth - Sunil - sorry bestie this is all I had left, although it kinda fits since he was in a very sleepy mood when his best friend was missing :/
Oh yaaay, thanks :D.
Yes, I absolutely think some people missed the assignment on that pride poll but oh well. There's always the chance they didn't, I guess. Still, Zoe is absolutely the most obvious to me, lust all the way, cause come on. Everyone up to Penny I gave the same reasoning pretty much so yeah, I agree.
My other conclusion is that you and I just really like when characters are envious of other cause angst material so naturally we want to give it to our favourites xD. I'll be honest though, I don't know if Vinnie was envious once caononically, Pepper though was. Part of me thinks maybe they didn't give that to him cause "haha, stupid and has no emotional range" but I might be very much wrong. Still, I agree with wrath as well. The man is Satan himself. And no, I don't know Helluva Boss lore, I just know bible lore :].
And let me talk about the gluttony one, I mean, none of the sins really 100% match anyone cause you know, they're from children's show, it's not like they ever did anything that wrong really. Gluttony means overindulgence in food and drinks, as in you consume those when others need them more but you take it all for yourself. Penny never did that of course but like, they've never been in a situation like that. Still, she's the one whose thing is eating a lot, so she naturally fits the best even if she doesn't exactly fit on her own.
And another conclusion is that sloth is just assigned at random to whoever is left cause it just fits nobody lol which I agree with btw. Like, someone has to have it, but no one really fits. Some fit better, some fit worse, but no one really fits. And yeah, Sunil might have been sleepy when his literal besite went missing, but let's be honest, no one did much to find him :/ (still salty). Plus, I'm sure if you tried hard enough you could find at least one moment for each of them when they could be considered lazy cause that's just something all people or in this case pets do.
Next time we're voting who has the sluttiest waist btw.

Carpe Diem - Critical Reflection
Role: Production Design
Working on Carpe Diem I learnt so much and so much about the role of production designer. The feedback we received at the crit was insightful on how we could have improved the film.
Story - One of the main points of feedback for our film was in the storyline, feeling like there was stuff missing leading up to the argument and the outbursts came too fast and without too much of a lead-up of tension. This is true; we all thought the story lacked this much-needed tension when we were editing. We were praised for Lorna’s acting which is great as she delivered a great performance. On the other hand, the tutors were confused by Xanders’s place in the film as we follow a character who’s not particularly likeable in any way and treats his mother so badly. Leo also commented on how the grief of the mother seemed too far-fetched and would maybe make more sense if she had lost her mother instead of a father. There also wasn’t much enough of a led-up to make the audience care about the male protagonist and see his side of the grief of losing a loved one – just that he was being too hard on his mother that is grieving. I am glad we cut the second half of the film, which led the son to leave his mother and go out with friends, which would have made the audience hate his character even more. We were told the emotional journey was quite hard to read which is a shame because the script was worked hard and had multiple drafts towards the end.
Edit – The edit was praised, and I think Ethan did a great job cutting around some of the story where it did not make sense such as when they reconnect at the end of the film it seemed more out of the blue and not realistic after the outburst. The moments of the film individually were praised but we were told that they didn’t work as well together but this is due to the storyline as well.
Camera work and production – I was praised for my production design and the lecturers agreed that the production worked well with the atmosphere and visuals in the film. They liked how the house almost seemed unnaturally clean, something that I contemplated on set. They agreed that visually it made sense with the son’s character for the house to seem almost eerie and too clean. I am glad they enjoyed my and Kushal’s (DOPs) work as we worked together to make the scene work well with the story. A few others in the class also pointed out that the production design was great which made me very happy to hear.
Sound – Zoe’s feedback for sound was helpful and she understood there was a mistake with the sound exporting in mono and not stereo which we will fix now. Casper did a good job of sound design, and it was very precise and clean.
Producer – Alana did such a great job as a producer and helped the film run smoothly. She was super organised throughout and helped make the film a success.
I learned a lot about working as a team and the role of a production designer. There was communication between us all which made everyone up to date with what stage the film was at and what had to be done next. Working on the production design for this film was fun and I can see myself working on it again in future film projects.

They lift your belly
This is from a TikTok in which the partner of the pregnant person lifts their belly. And I wrote about a few characters of my choice.
This is omegaverse | a/b/o
Eren Yeager:
-"Uhhh..." you muttered under your breath in fatigue as you moved into the living room.
-"How are you, Omega?" Eren asked you from the kitchen. He prepared a potato stew according to Sasha's recipe to quench your constant hunger. -"Are you tired?"
-"And you ask? I was examined by Hange and I had to listen to her theories for two hours about whether our child would be a titan or not." you replied, leaving the bag full of herbs for your pregnancy.
-"A hard day." said Eren, entering the living room. -"The stew will be ready in a little while."
-"Does your back hurt?" the alpha asked you, approaching you to scent you. The scent of the mates is able to soothe both mental and physical pain.
You let out a wheeze in discomfort, leaning on Yeager. He ran his hands over your back and began rubbing you lightly.
-"You know what? I have an idea." he whispered to you. -"I can soothe your pain."
-"And what is it? Will I like it?"
-"Yes, turn around." you turned your back on him with a sigh. - "Armin mentioned it to me." the alpha wrapped his arms around your belly. -"Just carefully lift your belly."
He gently lifted your belly up and you immediately let out a contented sigh. By lifting your belly, you could straighten your back again and not feel such pain in your back and shoulders. You leaned your head against Eren, spreading your contented scent.
-"Better?" he asked, rubbing his face against yours. You let out a purr in agreement.
Unfortunately for you, after about a few seconds, Yeager decided to let go of your belly, but you immediately hissed at him, startling him.
-"Okay, okay, sorry." exclaimed your alpha, lifting your belly again.
Jean Kirstein:
-"Everything hurts..." you muttered as Jean massaged your back.
-"I know, I know, Omega. There are two months left, wait a little longer." Jean replied, kissing the top of your head.
You let out another bored sigh. Sure, you thought your outbursts were very childish for you as an adult, but you couldn't help but complain about the pain in your back, shoulders, and legs that has been going on for 7 months.
-"Yes, and I can't imagine how it will last until then." you replied with annoyance. -"I haven't straightened my back in three months..." before you could continue complaining, your alpha betrayed 'huh'.
-"I know what will help you." exclaimed Kirstein, rising from your nest. -"Get up, we'll do a little exercise that you will really like."
-"Ohhh...." you muttered under your breath that you don't want to get up, but Jean didn't give you a choice, so out of annoyance you take his hand to help you stand up.
You with little struggle get to your feet as Jean stood behind you, wrapping his arms around your belly.
-"So, I will gently lift your belly. And in this way I should lift this weight from you and give rest to your back and shoulders." he explained, carefully lifting your bump. You let out a contented and unbelieving sigh that you felt your back free. -"Are you feeling well?"
-"Yeah..." you replied, relaxing on Jean's chest.
-"Tell me when you want me to let you go."
-"Oh, it won't be soon, I assure you."
Hange Zoe:
Hange is most excited about your pregnancy, more than you. She loves to take care of your sore muscles and come up with ways to soothe your pain and make your pregnancy less difficult.
Now you were arranging her documents while she drew some diagrams on a piece of paper. Since she became the commander of the Survey Corpse, her duties have increased and her free time has decreased, especially since she also plays the role of a scientist.
You try, even in your condition, to help her as much as you can.
-"Hange, where should I put them?" you asked, holding the file folder. -"These are for Zachary."
-"I'll put them where they have to be, you sit down and rest." replied the alpha, rising from her chair to retrieve the folder from your hands. -"You've been on your feet since morning."
-"Yes, to help you and prevent you from getting a panic attack by how many duties you have to do in a day." Hange giggled at your words.
-"How's the little one doing inside?" she asked, placing her hand on your bump.
-"Good, kicks and hits from time to time." you answered, placing your hand on hers.
-"Do you feel pain in your back?"
-"Oh, yeah, it's been six months and my back is killing me, I'm worried about how it will develop in the other months."
-"About that..." Zoe went behind you, wrapping her arms around you to your surprise. -"I want to try something."
-"Umm, okay..." you muttered in confusion. The brunette gently lifted your belly and you instinctively straightened your back, surprising that you could do it. The weight on your back and neck is released, giving you the opportunity to take a break. -"Oh, that's nice."
-"I know." Hange replied with a smile. She rested her head on your neck to scent you.
-"Can we stay like this for a while?" you asked.
-"Yeah."

I can’t recall if I’ve mentioned this before on tumblr, it would have been more interesting and saved on character models if they had just made Lila and Zoe the same person.
I’ve mentioned this to a few on Discord before, but they could have just combined the characters of Lila and Zoe into ONE single character.
Despite being portrayed as a major antagonist, Lila hasn’t seen much use. In addition, her lies are so outrageous that it makes everyone else look dumbed down in order to believe her rather than making Lila out to be a real credible threat.
Zoe, on the other hand, while nice and sweet, feels superfluous. She’s ultimately just a replacement for Chloe since Thomas didn’t want her to be a hero. If that was really the case, no Bee user was really necessary. There are a multitude of other options the writers could use besides needing individual holders for the Miraculous: still as of yet unrevealed Miraculous, dual wielding, and potions come to mind. These are gimmicks that they have introduced but done very little with, even if they would be extremely useful to the heroes at this point, and even act as game breakers for the fight against Hawk Moth.
So we have one character not being used enough and another one introduced at the last minute with little purpose. The simple answer would be to simply combine the two into one single character:
Chloe’s sister, who is a massive liar and manipulator but hides it behind a sweet facade.
If Zoe was more like Lila, I could see her using Chloe as a tool to make herself look better. After all, who would ever suspect Zoe of anything when Chloe is right there? Always a bully. Always overly emotional. Always acting out. Always demanding to get her way and throwing massive tantrums and running to Andre whenever she doesn’t get what she wants.
It would ultimately be what ends up causing trouble in the family. Zoe would cause trouble and then frame Chloe for things and Chloe would know Zoe was actually responsible and in turn blame her and throw a tantrum. Andre would of course cater to Chloe, but that would just make everyone watching think that Chloe is falsely blaming Zoe for what she does and getting away with it, which only makes people sympathize with Zoe and like her more. The fact that Chloe would be telling the truth would be overlooked. And Audrey would see the difference in behavior as well. And when it comes to which of her daughters to take with her to New York to be with her and see the inside of her industry...well, of course she's going to take the "well behaved daughter".
It could even play into Chloe’s character arc and show how she develops. Zoe would regularly lie and blame Chloe for things she did, and Chloe would react in a way that seems more like a child throwing a tantrum to not have to deal with a consequence rather than a girl who was upset over being falsely blamed for something that wasn’t her fault. And since she’s so used to it, she ends up just responding that way to everyone in general.
As the only one who knew Zoe was lying and getting away with it, she’d ultimately feel she’d have to throw the tantrums and demand her father punish Zoe to see any justice done. But even this only helped Zoe in the end, as it would cause everyone else to see Zoe as the sympathetic figure who is being falsely blamed by her immature sister...they wouldn’t know Zoe was the one who started it in the first place.
And that would be how they grow up. With Zoe antagonizing and setting up Chloe while Chloe would have outbursts in response that everyone felt they just had to put up with. And when Audrey leaves for New York and needs to decide whether to take her daughters with her...well, clearly Zoe is so well behaved and polite and wonderful while Chloe is demanding and accusatory.
Zoe would know this, and as New York would come with more opportunities for her, Zoe would want to go...and all the better if she can cost Chloe the opportunity. So she sets up another incident framing Chloe. Chloe of course tries in vain to tell everyone Zoe did it. And no one believes her.
Audrey ultimately deems Chloe unable to handle it, so she goes to New York with just Zoe, and leaves Chloe behind.
It’d explain why Chloe acts as she does in canon and is so reliant on her father’s authority for any perceived slight. She felt her sister always got away with everything and her father has been the only one in her corner. In her mind, her actions are always the lesser problem compared to the wrongs of someone else because she has that inner need to see justice done after all that time dealing with someone who always seemed to sidestep it.
Cue Chloe’s character arc, as she starts to or is even FORCED to start to take notice of just what SHE’S doing. How she’s hurting people and how her own behavior is unjust. As she grows and stops responding to every perceived slight, she gains the ability to better handle situations without blowing up. And even, dare I say, starts to gain real friends.
Then Zoe returns. And it seems like a perfect opportunity to play again at the tricks and manipulations she subjected Chloe to as kids. Only this time, Chloe is able to not only NOT respond, but to outwit her. AND she has support this time.
It wouldn’t undo all of Zoe’s manipulations over the years. And it wouldn’t justify Chloe’s own bullying. But it would better explain a lot of why she is how she is, and offer more of a step for her to break out of it.
That way, we’d have a character arc for Chloe and a real credible threat of Zoe as well as a REASON as to why she would be so believable.

the king’s crossing:
unrelated to the ep but i just stood on a slug in my bedroom🤢
alfred’s brought in and connie tells them he doesn’t want treating
charlie asks her if she did it and rita notices… after she noticed connie with the drugs in her office the previous ep😬
was this girl on tracy beaker returns?? elektra??
cal asking zoe if he could crash at hers for a few nights and she’s like you do remember i live on a houseboat with dylan?
cal gets a call from taylor finally
he’s telling ethan right as the digger crashed through the wall
cal finds taylor in a park toilet and she’s been stabbed by someone else she scammed who found her lmao
lofty asks max how to turn a girl off him and max is like i didn’t think this is a problem you would ever have and dylan’s like “i think you’re supposed to add no offence to that” ahh scripting <3
cal rings ethan for help and he just hands up on him sjskdkfk what exactly did he think was going to happen
aww ethan goes to the staffroom, calmly shuts the door and then shouts and hits the lockers
no but this is exactly how he deals with everything. he pushes everything down behind a calm and “unflappable” exterior until it suddenly becomes too much and he has an outburst that seems like it’s come out of nowhere (not to the us the viewers bc we see the buildup but to the other characters i mean)
cal still desperate to believe that there was something real between them :( even when he asks her why she did it and she just goes “for the money”
ethan turns up to help them anyway
when cal goes to get the car ethan tells taylor that when they get to the traffic lights she’s to get out and run and be gone forever or he’ll call the police. doing what needs to be done!
rita orders a tox screen on alfred and he had benzos in his bloodstream which weren’t part of his care plan😬
and that’s taylor running off and cal trying to drive after her
so they’re running on the generator because of the accident with the digger and the lights flicker right before connie and rita get into the lift with a patient… they’re going to get stuck in the lift aren’t they
yup. i love how it happens so often that they just look annoyed and know immediately what to do sjskkffk
taylor runs right into the police because ethan called them anyway
ohh cal and ethan’s fight </3
this fight is such a good insight into their characters and their relationship. everyone go watch it right now
“you’re just as messed up as me” “i’m nothing like you”
“admit it, ethan. you need me to be messed up so you can look away from your own pathetic life. that’s why you keep coming back, ethan!” “why would i keep coming back to clean up your mess? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? i come back because i have no choice! because you’re my brother!”💔
“i’ll keep coming back for you caleb”🥺
they gotta do brain surgery in the lift
cal and ethan finally talking🥺
cal still making ethan take the car back sjskdk why is he like this
connie being arrested on suspicion of murder😬
#this may be slightly out of order bc tumblr helpfully decided to remove some of the text part way through#and i rewrote some of the things i remembered#the cal and ethan content in this ep >>>>>#classic casualty#the king’s crossing

WOT: 1x08 aka expectations tempered but pleasantly surprised.
cut for book and show spoilers:
Okay so full disclaimer I read (some of) the leaks on Reddit before this episode which I am kind of glad for because it tempered my insanely high expectations as a book fan (even though the end of this book is generally considered as all over the place), but I def feel the leaks made the episode seem worse than it was.
What I Liked:
I really liked Moiraine and Rand in this episode! And I feel like them going as a duo worked better than what it happens in the books (although I would have liked to see more power from Rand) and I also really like Rand going it alone and trying to save the people he loves and Moiraine even keeping it from Lan of all people. Tbh I’m not clear on whether M is stilled or heavily shielded but even if she is stilled I think it works? I feel like Moiraine works much better for me as a Gandalf/guidance figure than when they make her the main character ala episode 6.
Perrin - this is a character that has definitely suffered from pacing/revised storylines/focus on others - but I really liked Perrin in this episode and I’m excited to see where they take him in S2.
Agelmar/Shienar: the stakes felt a lot higher here than in the books and I really liked the battle scenes which felt like a mini Helms Deep.
MixedWhat I Didn’t Like:
Nyn & Lan: so we got the line, but (I hate to say it as Lan’s little poet outbursts are some of my fave book scenes), it just didn’t work for me in the way it did in the books and I think part of that is it seems like we’re dropping the Malkieri oaths or at least putting them on the back burner. That said, Daniel and Zoe were excellent in this scene.
Burning Out: I’m mixed on this. On one hand, I love Nyn trying to save Eg and I also like that Eg’s returning the favour wasn’t some crazy max power moment, but Egwene reaching for the power in a moment of desperation (similar to what Moiraine had said to Rand earlier). I also like that we’re seeing Nyn is having these random bursts of insane channeling to protect and heal, but Egwene’s channeling so far seems a lot more intentional and tactical which def feels true to both characters, but I don’t love the implication of Egwene’s healing here b/c her talents lie in other areas (in the books).
Lan: Oh, Book Lan how I do miss thee. I feel like they wrote Lan well in eps 1-4 and then they seemed to lose some of the hardness. I really wanted to see more of Lan’s prowess & backstory which includes his oaths/deathwish and it seems like they’ve replaced that with his duty to Moiraine.
tldr: better than expected (from the leaks) and although some of the scenes didn’t work for me i am still excited for S2+
#wot show spoilers#wot book spoilers#wheel of time#on amazon prime#wot on prime#1x08 the eye of the world#pls give me die in the blight lan in s2#its all i ask#my fave part of wot will always be the insanely well crafted characters#and their trauma

Partners
Characters: Petra Ral, Levi, Hanji Zoe x Levi Genre: Action / Mystery / Romance Rating: T
Detective!au
Summary: when Petra was promoted to a detective and partnered up with legendary Levi Ackerman, she felt like the happiest person in the world.
But, as she soon found out, detective Ackerman she used to admire so much was actually a far cry from the ideal policeman Petra thought he was. He was rude, harsh and easily annoyed. And, in addition, he still hadn’t moved on from the death of his previous partner - detective Hange Zoe.
Chapter 2/?
Chapter 1
The loud shrill sound of her ringtone woke Petra up. She groaned, turning on her side, a hand reaching out to the bedside table. She cursed as she nearly threw off the lamp in her haste to get to the annoying device. After a couple of awkward bumps and clashes, her fingers finally touched the smooth surface of her phone. She answered the call immediately, not sparing a glance at the display.
"Y-yes?" she asked, not even trying to hide the sleepiness from her voice.
"Petra, it's your new partner, Levi," and, oh god, it woke her up fast. Faster than a bucket of cold water ever could. "There had been a murder and Erwin asked us to investigate it. I'll text you the address, come as soon as you can. I'll be waiting."
And then, before Petra could give him any kind of an answer, he ended the call. For a few long seconds, Petra just sat on her bed, phone still near her ear.
There has been a murder? And she was going to investigate it? For real, not like yesterday's case, where everything had been already dealt with by Levi? Gosh, someone had actually died, it shouldn't make her so excited. But it did.
She all, but jumped out of her bed, trying to get ready as fast as possible.
*** When she arrived to the tall apartment complex, where a murder had happened, Petra was surprised to find out just how many police officers were there, especially considering the late hour. In the distance, she even saw Oluo, who was arguing with a lonely pedestrian. Petra wanted to come up and say hi, but she knew she had no time for that right now. She would surely apologize to him, but later.
As she neared the entrance, Petra saw that Levi was leaning over the brick wall. Was he waiting for her? While she was approaching him, she noticed that the circles under his eyes were even more prominent than yesterday, especially under the light of a street lamp. Furthermore, he was wearing yesterday's clothes. Did he not come home after work, Petra wondered, as Levi finally looked up at her.
"You came sooner than I expected," he told her, his voice, as always, calm and disinterested. "Let's go inside, the murder happened in the apartment on the fourth floor."
"Who is the victim?"
"A woman in her thirties. She was found by her roommate, who came home after a night shift."
Petra nodded, absorbing the information. "What was the cause of death?"
"A cut to her throat."
"Oh," Petra breathed out. It was not what she expected.
“It’s your first murder case, right?” Levi asked, his voice gentler than Petra was used to. “If you don’t feel like you can do it, you don’t have to.”
“I’ll be fine,” Petra told him sternly. She tightened her hands into fists, raising her head high. She won’t show him any fear. She was strong. She could do it. She will do it. “C’mon,” she urged Levi, who was staring at her with furrowed eyebrows. “We have work to do.”
The apartment, once Petra stepped inside, was surprisingly clean. After hearing about slashed throat, she expected to see splashes of blood, or, at least, signs of a struggle. Instead, the living room was neat and tidy. Petra would have even called it cozy, if she didn’t know that a person was murdered there.
“Where is the body?” Levi asked a member of forensic team. It was a tall and light-haired man, Petra remembered seeing him at the precinct. If she wasn’t mistaken, his name was Moblit Berner, and before the death of Hange Zoe, he was working closely with the infamous duo.
“Detective Ackerman!” Moblit threw his hands in the air, stopping Levi from taking another step. “Please, you can’t go in here!”
“Moblit,” Levi growled. “What do you think you’re doing? I was appointed to this case by Erwin. So move the fuck away.”
“C-captain Erwin?” Moblit paled at the mention of his superior. “But detective… you really shouldn’t see it.”
“I’ve been a detective for more than ten years,” Levi pushed past Moblit. “Dead bodies don’t scare me.”
“It’s not just a dead body…” Moblit whispered, but Levi paid him no mind.
He walked inside the bedroom, where a body was found, Petra hot on his heels. She glanced over his shoulder, her nerves getting to her after all those warnings from Moblit. But… The bedroom seemed as clean as the rest of the apartment. There was no blood, no guts, no everything. Just a young brown-haired woman lying in her bed, looking so peaceful, as though she was simply asleep. Petra actually felt relieved at the sight, she was expecting something much, much worse.
Pulling on the sterile gloves, Levi swiftly reached the bed, his sharp eyes taking every detail of a crime scene. However, as he moved the victim’s head to take a better look at her wound, Petra noticed that his hands were trembling. She watched him curiously, Levi didn’t seem to be disgusted or wary by the corpse itself. He touched the wound without any kind of remorse, but, for some reason, he avoided looking at the victim’s face and his moves were strangely reluctant, as he pressed his hand to the mop of brown hair.
“She looks nothing like her,” he whispered, under hus breath, continuing with the inspection.
“Detect—”
Before Petra could finish, Levi’s eyes landed on a small bedside table. He tensed immediately, staring at it with wide, unblinking eyes.
“Detective?” Petra called again, feeling more than a little unnerved by rhe unexpected change in him.
“Son of a bitch!” Levi suddenly shouted. “Motherfucker!”
Petra watched him in silence, shocked and bewildered by a sudden outburst of a man, who always acted so calm. She reached out, meaning to lay a comforting hand on his shoulder, but before she could do so, Levi turned on his heels, storming out of the room.
Before Petra followed after him, she glanced at the table, curious as to what possibly could get her partner so furious.
The table was almost empty, save for a pair of broken, bloodied glasses. Next to them, lay a note. Petra carefully lifted it up, reading the contents.
Think you can catch me without her?
Neither note, nor especially glasses made any sense to Petra. She hurriedly exited the room, searching for Levi. She didn’t have to look for long. Levi was in the middle of the living room, his hand tightly wrapped around the elbow of some obviously panicked police officer.
“Where the fuck is Erwin?” he asked in a low, dangerous voice, squeezing the man’s elbow tighter.
“I… I don’t know, detec—”
“I’m here, Levi,” said a deep baritone, which Petra momentarily recognized as Captain Smith’s. “So please let the man go. You’re scaring him.”
“We need to talk,” Levi hissed. “Right fucking now,” he added, dragging Captain Erwin with him.
He led him to the small side room, which probably served as a study. Unable to resist her curiosity, Petra followed after them, crouching in the dark corridor and hoping they won’t see her.
“Levi, please calm down,” Captain Erwin tried to placate him, laying hands on his shoulders.
“Calm down?!” Levi sneered, throwing Erwin’s hands off. “How the fuck can I calm down, when that fucker has returned, just like told you he would, and now he’s trying to play his stupid games with me?”
“We don’t know if it’s Zek—”
“It was her glasses, Erwin!” Levi screamed. His voice was filled with so much pain and anguish that Petra felt her heart clench in sympathy. “It was her damn glasses,” he repeated much quieter.
“Are you sure?” Captain Erwin asked softly.
“Of course, I’m sure,” Levi shakily ruffled his hair. “I was the one, who bought them for her, after that idiot lost her previous one. That bastard is back, I’m sure about it too.”
“It can’t be,” Captain Erwin shook his head with a determined look. “It’s a copycat or a follower, but it’s not Zeke.”
“And what makes you think so?”
“Because Zeke died two years ago. And so did Hange,” Captain Erwin squeezed Levi’s shoulder. “It’s past the time you move on,” he added, before pushing past Levi and walking out of the room.
It happened so quickly that Petra didn’t get the chance to run away from her hiding spot. However, as he went past her, Captain Erwin paid her no mind. Either, he didn’t see her or he simply didn’t care.
But Petra knew she won’t get such luck with Levi, so she started moving, trying to make as little noise as possible. As she went past that room, she couldn’t help, but throw one last glance at her partner. And what she saw, broke her heart.
Levi stood there, in a dark, empty room. His fists, and his whole body, were shaking, as he took one labored breath after another.
He looked so vulnerable, so fragile, Petra felt a barely resistible desire to come closer and comfort him. But she knew he would never accept her help, he didn't need her sympathy. So she ignored the painful clenching of her heart and walked away.
Returning to the living room, Petra wasn't sure what to do next. There were still members of forensic team and other policemen walking around, looking for samples of DNA or other evidence. Watching them, Petra contemplated her next move - should she help others with the investigation? Should she wait for Levi? Or, maybe, it'd be best to investigate on her own?
Before she could decide, a hand fell on her shoulder. She swiftly turned around.
"Oh, sorry, didn't mean to scare you," a man from forensics, Moblit, said. "Just wanted to say hi," he smiled softly.
Petra smiled back. Moblit's awkward friendliness made her feel at ease for the first time, since she set foot in that apartment.
"You're Detective Levi's new partner, right?"
"Yeah," Petra nodded, trying very hard not to cringe.
“He can be a real asshole sometimes, eh?” Moblit asked with a look of understanding in his eyes.
Petra let out a small chuckle. “Something like that, yes.”
“He was different before,” Moblit continued, his gaze becoming distant. “Still not the easiest guy to deal with, but… when Detective Hange was around, she managed to somewhat soften his edges.”
“You recognized her glasses too,” Petra looked at him carefully. “So you knew her well?”
“Detective Hange… was an incredible woman. She was a great detective, but before joining the force, she was attending a medical school. She often helped us in the laboratories and I worked with her closely. It’s a shame you haven’t met her,” he said with genuine sadness. “You would have liked her.”
“Yeah, she was great, I get it already,” Petra mumbled, fed up with hearing about how her predecessor was so much better than her.
“Oh god, I’m so sorry!” her cheeks flamed, as she realized she had said it out loud. “I didn’t to disrespect her or—“
“It’s fine,” Moblit gave her another sympathetic look. “You probably had a long day. You should rest, we’ve done all the work here anyway.”
“But—”
“I’ll explain everything to detective Levi, don’t worry. Just take it easy.”
Petra nodded shakily, moved by Moblit’s kindness. Acting on an impulse, she reached out and gave him a quick hug. “Thank you,” she whispered. “I really needed it.”
“If you ever need someone to listen to you bitching about your partner, you can always come down to the forensics department. I don’t mean to brag, but we have the biggest tea collection in the precinct, and Nifa always brings some delicious pastry.”
“I’ll be sure to visit,” she promised heartily, smiling softly.
"Petra."
That voice sent shivers down her spine, destroying the warm atmosphere that surrounded her conversation with Moblit. Petra slowly turned around.
"Yes, detective?”
"Let's go, there is nothing else we can do here for now. We'll start cracking this case tomorrow."
Petra stared at him in shock. Levi looked just as he usually did - calm, collected. His mouth was pressed in a hard line and his eyes were a mixture of boredom and indifference. All signs of that broken, grieving man Petra had seen before were gone. It left her speechless.
"C'mon," he urged, turning around. "I'll give you a lift to your place."
"W-what! You don't have to, sir!"
Levi glanced back at her, his grey eyes boring into hers with the already familiar look of annoyance.
"You're right, I don't. But I want to, so shut it and let's go. And, for the love of God, don't you call me sir ever again. Just Levi is fine."
"Um, okay, Levi!" Petra beamed, feeling her heart skip a beat. So deep down, Levi was really a kind and caring man.
However, before she followed after him, Petra turned around one last time, her eyes sweeping over the apartment. With only a few policemen still present, it looked so peaceful. It gave her creeps. It made her feel like... Something was coming. Something terrible. Something that will ruin many lives. Maybe, including her own.
Petra shook her head, clutching her fists. Whatever was going to happen, she'll be ready. She won't let anything break or destroy her.
She won't become another reason for the sadness in Levi's eyes.

i just typed some extremely long First Impressions of Druck s5 ep 1 to my friends and i was like well hell i spent too much time on this shit not to share so uh just gonna dump it all here you’re welcome
tl;dr i didn’t expect to be having such a nice time but i’m having fun which is always a nice thing to feel when it comes to following the skams lol
1. so i think it's kind of funny that even just a couple weeks ago i was absolutely not enthused about another season focused on a white girl because after one week in nora's pov i am absolutely on the nora machwitz protection squad and i would give her my life. This is mostly due to the fact that druck has been really effective this week at using visual storytelling to establish her character - someone who's quite young [like i don’t think it’s an accident they cast someone who visually looks so young tbh] but has been forced to grow up fast because her sisters aren’t regularly at home anymore and her mother is alcoholic and potentially mentally ill. that clip where she video chats with zoe while doing laundry really hit me hard for some reason, like idk there’s just something about her being very clearly the only one in the apartment doing laundry and cleaning up around the house and eating dinner by herself and of course pouring out her mother’s alcohol which should absolutely not be her responsibility but like there’s an ease and familiarity with how she goes about these things, juxtaposed with her quietly asking zoe to stay at home that night but not pushing when zoe’s not open to the idea, that feels so quiet and yet so, so heartbreaking
and it feels like because of this she’s become someone who tends to cover up and underplay how bad things are for her so that people don't worry about her like she really takes on so much by herself??? The way she’s been lying to her sisters about her mom, underplaying how messy things are with constantin [and i feel like if zoe knew the full extent of it she would probably take her sisters side in a heartbeat but I'm guessing nora probably doesn't want to strain their friendship so she hasn't said more about it, like it’s hard to imagine zoe knows about ismael telling her point blank to stay away from them], lying to her mom so that there won't be unnecessary stress put on zoe and the others, fucking plastering a fake smile on her face after she was on the literal verge of a panic attack so zoe’s night can continue without disruption. I think that's part of why constantin’s outburst hits so hard [of course without even mentioning how painful it is to have such ableist things thrown at you when her mother is potentially mentally ill], bc we know she has lied and have already seen it multiple times but we also understand her motivations for it very deeply.
time will tell of course if druck will be able to keep up this momentum with her character but idk i just find myself very pleasantly surprised with how compelling i find their visual storytelling so far! like a lot of what we know of nora’s character we know from those quiet clips of her by herself, not through much dialogue bc so far she hasn’t really had the opportunity to talk to a lot of people. though i hope that changes and she gets to find her people soon :’]
[As well I love that she's an artsy hoe who doodles in her notebooks and keeps stickers in her bag at all times so she can put little pieces of herself in random places across the city I ADORE HER]
2. I really liked the way they revealed that Fatou was queer - in a teasing but meaningful comment/glance, implying that she's already out while acknowledging her queerness in a quiet but explicit way. also ismael showed up today in a skirt which i find utterly delightful and like i'm really digging this casual queerness bc it's not really something that's been a part of any of the skams before if i recall correctly? not in this way, at least. and maybe it’s just me but even though there are a lot of [ostensibly] straight characters still, idk it feels more lowkey to me, at least so far. like there have been other things to focus on which is always a wonderful feeling.
3. along those lines i find it kind of interesting that we don't really know who nora's love interest is yet [assuming she even has one, which i am bc idk if skamverse really has the range for a season that has no romance in it whatsoever but who knows, they might prove me wrong this time, and i would thank them for it] because they focused on other things this episode - her isolation, her complicated relationship with her mom and her sisters, etc. - which i think also contributes to why i had a nice chill time watching this episode. not that i expect that to last very long skdfjdksn but idk! it's nice not to have to worry about who the love interest is even if it's just for a week! like for now i'm just chill to see where things go you know [and yes i have my own ideas about who the Love Interest is but like no one asked me]
4. i think something i forgot that i really liked about druck but that has made watching this episode very enjoyable is that there's just something about the aesthetic that makes it feel so teenager-y? idk how else to describe it but i really do think druck is the remake that comes the closest to og skam in capturing this feeling! as well as the more quiet character-driven moments that are just as important to the narrative as the more dramatic moments. and druck is the most likely of the remakes to give their clips space to breathe i think which i didn't realize i missed but i appreciate very much. and of course all the characters feel like real teenagers, like perhaps an unpopular opinion but i honestly quite like most [except for constantin so far, what an ass, but honestly i hope that will change eventually idk i’m feeling weirdly optimistic about this season] of the new characters so far even the ones who are being dumbasses lol. like idk they all think they're so cool but they're actually such stupid dorks who don't know how to deal with their emotions and i’m into that bc i too was a dumbass teenager who didn't know how to deal with their emotions so there's this sense of they're probably going to learn and grow from their mistakes and i'm excited for them, i really am
5. they won't do this for me because the skamverse hates me specifically and would never give me a queer viet character like it’s just not in the cards for me but - fatou for s6 main with kieu my as her love interest. I SPEAK IT INTO EXISTENCE.
#sarah.txt#druck#i haven't been in the tags so idk if i'm saying anything new#just wanted to collect all my thoughts in one place bc damn i have a lot!#druck meta#story meta

I Never Told You What I Do For A Living
Chapter 4
Word Count: 1237
Pairing: Jonathan Harker x Reader
Warnings: Sexual innuendos in the beginning but that's it, mentioning of Friends with Benefits.
A/N: Teehee.
__
After spending two days at Jonathan’s apartment you returned back to your apartment and Zoe frantically asked you questions about whether Jonathan did something to you.
“For the 50th time, Jonathan did not try anything!” You said and rolled your eyes. “In fact he was rather helpful by making me think less about what had happened.”
“Let me check for any bite marks then.” Zoe demanded and you showed her your neck to reassure her. “There’s none-“ Zoe said.
“Well I probably would have noticed if he had bitten me-“ you said.
“Not necessarily!” Zoe argued.
“I doubt he would! Alright?!” You said slightly annoyed.
“Why are you so defensive over him?” Zoe smirked a little.
You didn’t understand why you were being so defensive but Zoe’s lack of trust in Jonathan annoyed you quite a bit. Jonathan helped you, more than once now. Despite that your answer was:“I’m not!”
“Do you like him? Well, what did you even do?”
__
After spending a day together you started getting a bit comfortable with him, being an ambivert did that to you. Jonathan also seemed to warm up to you, obviously the two of you had your.. Differences as you quickly figured.
“Heyyyy Johnnyy!! Catch tHIS!!” You said as you threw a pillow into his face.
You laughed mockingly as Jonathan’s vampire reflexes failed him, what you didn’t expect was the pillow meeting your face just a second or so later.
Jonathan looked at you with a snug smile.
You pouted playfully.
It was all an act before you bolted into the opposite direction and threw another pillow into Jonathan’s face.
The fight continued!
__
Zoe’s voice pulled you out of the flashback.
“Hard to explain.” You said. Well, you could’ve been more specific but you weren’t. How do you explain to someone that you, as an almost 18 year old had a pillow fight with a 148 year old dude?
“DID Y-“ Zoe’s eyes widened and she looked like she was about to kill you.
“NO!! WE DIDN’T, WE HAD A PILLOW FIGHT AND WE WATCHED MOVIES!! Oh and we played chess, I won.” You said proudly.
Regardless of what you said, by now you figured that you did have a small crush on the boomer. Well, shit. Somehow you assumed Zoe already knew, now this was awkward.
A notification on your phone screen popped up. You took your phone and sighed, seeing it was a message from your ex.
“Let’s meet at the park at 8 pm!”
You hesitated a little before agreeing, you doubted that anything could go wrong and if Dracula chased you, you always could sacrifice your ex. Maybe, just maybe, if you got together your feelings for the boomer might die.
__
Dracula was watching Jonathan.
He was completely acting out of character, the Count was obviously curious to know as to why Jonathan was exercising for once and acting just weird.
“Why?” Asked Dracula.
“What? Why are you even here?” Asked Jonathan, still trying to keep the politeness in his voice.
Dracula raised an eyebrow at him, they certainly were not friends, just vampires with benefits.. Sometimes. Usually Jonathan would happily oblige to having intercourse with the Count.
“For our usual business. However I would kike to know why you’re acting so weird, Johnny. Is there anyone you like?” Dracula smirked.
“That is none of your business.” Jonathan glared at him.
“It’s her isn’t it? She must be great, hm? Why would she want you?”
This did make Jonathan think.
__
It was late and you were getting ready for your date?
You made your way to the park and sighed, as you saw your ex you waved at her.
“Hey Y/N!” She said and gave you a hug.
“Hey Leia..” You said and hugged back.
“Long time no see, what’s up?” She asked and grabbed her backpack to give you an energy drink.
“Thanks- uhh, really nothing much.” You said as you took the energy drink.
The two of you talked for a while, as you quickly realized that.. You didn’t have any feelings for her. She was boring and a pretty big asshole, far worse than you remembered.
“.. And I told her that she looked disgusting, y’know? She got so mad she yelled and broke up with me! Like she couldn’t take the truth! What was I supposed to do? She looked like a whale!” Leia laughed.
You looked at her, not interested in what she was saying at all.
“You’re so pretty though!” She smiled and pulled you close to her, shortly after she kissed you and you pushed her away, quite angrily.
“Get the fuck away from me.” You warned and she frowned.
“What’s wrong, Y/N?” She asked.
“What’s wrong? Are you fucking stupid? It’s not enough you don’t care about others and you’re selfish as fuck, you also judge others and tell them how they should look like or what they should do according to your ideals. This is why we never, fucking never will work out because I refuse to be with an excuse for a bitch. Respect my fucking boundaries and I hope we’ll never cross paths again. Go fuck yourself.” You yelled and walked away.
“Y/N- WAIT!” She pleaded.
“No. Get away from me.” You said angrily.
Jonathan, who secretly watched your outburst pretty much disguised as bat was.. Impressed?
You walked home as Jonathan appeared and you were shocked for a bit. “You almost gave me a heart attack!” You said.
“Sorry, dear.” He smiled, you noticed that he had dressed a little casually by that you meant dress pants and shirt with a blazer and he seemed to have a different hairstyle.
“Are you going somewhere??? You look so fancy..” You said and smiled, stupid you, thinking he would ever be interested in you. He probably found somebody closer to his age.
“I was going to suggest we’d go to the cinema, but if you can’t then that’s alright.” He replied.
“No.. That’s actually a good idea!” You smiled, happily and a bit relieved. You took his hand and smiled at him.
He looked a little startled by you taking his hand.
“Let’s goo!” You said and smiled as you walked to the cinema, holding Jonathan’s icy cold hand but it was alright.
__
After the movie you and Jonathan walked to your apartment. He just came with you to ensure you were safe, which was very nice.
“Good night!” You said.
“Good night darling, sleep well.” He said and walked away.
You then walked upstairs and opened the apartment door before taking a bath. The whole day had stressed you out and you realized.. Your birthday was next week.
Would you survive until then? You didn’t really know, but somehow being undead at 17 sounded cool. You could vibe still relate to the lyrics of the Dancing Queen by ABBA and that forever. Sounded like a win-win.
Finishing your bath, you took a shower and then dried your hair before going to sleep.
__
2 Weeks have almost passed and it was just the evening before your birthday. Jonathan and you seemed to have grown even closer but the Count’s interest in you also seemed to have grown.
You woke up during the middle of the night to a voice whispering into your ear:
“now I can see for myself why Johnny is so infatuated with you.”
You screamed.

20, 25!
20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)
Since no one has asked about it in the comments yet, I’m gonna talk about this particular part of Once and Maybe Future Chapter 10: Outburst.
“I get it, you think Nimue’s better than I am,” Douxie said.
“Well in this particular case, Nimue was entirely better than you. Really, what were you thinking?”
So, Douxie is a little jealous of how quickly Nimue is progressing in her magic, which she only learned about when she was twelve and aside from Douxie and Archie helping her these past three years has been entirely self taught. (This is partially due to her being able to remember parts of her past lives, though Douxie doesn’t know that.) Douxie is normally able to keep this well under control, but Archie has definitely picked up on it and Nimue has probably picked up on it as well. In the past, Archie probably even told Douxie that just because Nimue was naturally gifted, that wouldn’t do anything to break the bond they’ve had for years.
(Also: there’s definitely a hint of gifted student jealousy, because I project onto these characters and Douxie was a prodigy in magic (who, granted, was also very privileged by being the crown prince of a magical kingdom) who then had his magical growth stunted by getting possessed, attempting a powerful act of necromancy, and then accidentally sending himself and his two-souled-cat from sixth century Europe to twenty-first century California.)
But, that’s not the only thing that Douxie is jealous of. Nimue is able to have a more organic relationship with Archie because there aren’t any Camelot-based secrets between them (or so he thinks). Meanwhile, Douxie has an entire past with Arthur that he’s had to keep a secret, and the guilt has been eating at him for years. To Douxie, he sometimes feels like Nimue and Archie work better together. Moreover, he fears that if by some miracle his father remembers, he will hate Mordred for disobeying him, trusting Morgana, and then using dark magic on Arthur. Heck, Douxie can’t help but fear that his father would hate him for using dark magic at all. The only other person that Archie talks to these days is Nimue, so Douxie’s irrational fears all pile into “my father will leave me for my more competent and not magically corrupted by dark magic best friend and I’ll be all alone”, which does get somewhat explored later in the chapter:
Maybe it would be better if Douxie went away. Not do anything drastic, but his father and Nimue had this handled. They didn’t need him. Besides, he had used dark magic before. They would hate him, even though he had used dark magic with good intentions. Even though he had been young. Even though he had been possessed.
Though, Nimue’s mom was allergic to cats. Douxie was still needed for at least one reason.
His father and Nimue were just concerned; they didn’t hate him yet.
Also, because I’m talking about this passage, I would like to point out that Douxie’s mental health is doing better from when he accidentally sent himself to modern California. The “Not do anything drastic” line was added precisely because when I was proofreading the paragraph the line about Douxie going away sounded way too much like it might be about suicide, which. I’ve written a lot of angst, and sometimes that angst is about suicide. So, if someone were to assume that Douxie was suicidal in this part of the fic, it’d be understandable, but I specifically wanted to point out that even though his mental health isn’t great it isn’t that bad.
(As a side note: I kept on wanting to type Zoe instead of Nimue, but I’m not going to go back and edit the story, not when there’s multiple story beats about Nimue’s name being what it is.)
25. What part of writing is the most fun?
I like generating ideas, and I also like getting my prose to flow. It’s especially great when I can reuse a phrase multiple times to have it punch you in the gut.
Fun meta asks for writers

Little Devil
Disclaimer: I don’t own ML.
You know, if Adrien didn’t just sit by and be an enabler. And if Chloé’s character development actually stuck. And if the writers could actually write consistent characterisation.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Alya to bits. But this girl was so wildly OOC in this episode that it’s not funny. I also like all the other classmates. But since it’s Chloé’s POV, we all know our blonde bitch will take any chance she gets to drag them.
The fic idea came from @gale-of-the-nomads and Little Devil from @zoe-oneesama (in case you want a picture reference). And @angel-of-death-2015 requested a tag in this here saltfic, so here you are! Part 2 coming tomorrow when I’ve caught up on sleep!
Part 2 | AO3 link
This is ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous! Okay, so Chloé doesn’t like Marinette Dupain-Cheng, and you’d have to be an idiot to not realise that by now. But if there’s one person that Chloé dislikes more than Marinette, it’s that serial liar Lila Rossi.
Actually, scratch that. Chloé doesn’t even really care about Marinette anymore. Hell, after all that stuff Marinette had done to get Chloé’s maman to like her and then throw that party for Queen Bee, Chloé’s inclined to think that Marinette is average. Not worth her attention, whether positive or negative, even though Chloé had been a bitch about the macarons on Heroes’ Day (but then Marinette had invited her to the picnic, so. Yeah.). And sure, Marinette’s crushing on Adrien – really, who wouldn’t crush on him, that’s just common sense – but she doesn’t hang off him like some kind of…ugh, leech. Even Chloé’s not as touchy as this Lila girl, who had practically been sitting in Adrien’s lap in class.
And really, Chloé has a right to be so physically affectionate with Adrien. They’re childhood friends, after all. She’s started to suspect that he’s not really that into it, but that’s something they can deal with another day. Right now, the problem is Lila Rossi. More specifically, how everyone in the class seems to be under some sort of spell or something, because how else would they swallow these utterly ridiculous lies?
Hmm. Maybe Lila’s just a permanent akuma from now on, with the power to make anyone believe her ridiculous lies. Queen Bee should really investigate that…with a few small hits to make sure. But Chloé can’t really go Queen Bee right now, so it’s time for the next best thing: the enemy of her enemy is her temporary ally. And that ally just happens to be one Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
“Ugh, really,” Chloé scoffs, shattering the silence. Having taken the cafeteria by surprise, the attention is now on Chloé, just as it should be.
“Is there a problem, Chloé?” Lila says, all sickly sweet and pathetic. Ugh, really. At least Chloé doesn’t have to tell so many lies for attention; that just comes naturally when you’re the mayor’s daughter. Small lies, sure, but at least she can say she’s not Liar Rossi.
“Duh,” Chloé drawls. She pushes her gourmet lunch from her personal chef away and stands up, hands on her hips, her lip curling at how everyone’s crowded around Lila to cater to her every whim like Sabrina does for Chloé. The difference is that Chloé actually gives half a fig for Sabrina, whereas Lila clearly doesn’t give a damn about any of these losers. “The problem is what’s wrong with all of you.”
“What’s wrong with us?” Alya says. Hmm. Some best friend to Marinette she is. “You’re one to talk, Chloé!”
“At least I’m not two-faced to my friends,” Chloé says. “Sabrina knows what she’s signing up for by being my best friend, though I’m not so sure I like how she’s fawning over Lila like that when she’s supposed to be fawning over me.” She puts on a look of exaggerated thought. “But I don’t think Marinette expected this from her friends…if you can even call yourselves that.”
There’s predictably immediate uproar, which Chloé drinks in with a smug smile on her face. Chaos is absolutely beautiful. Cause enough of it and you can pretty much get away with anything while everyone’s distracted by their hurt feelings. Lila just stares back evenly, the look in her eyes promising that somewhere, sometime, Chloé will pay for this.
Which would be a lot more intimidating if Chloé hadn’t mastered that look for herself, to be honest. What could this pathetic liar do to her, Chloé Bourgeois?
“Oh, come on,” Alya scoffs. “Like you care about Marinette. You’re just jealous of Lila because you’re not the centre of attention anymore.”
Chloé lets herself laugh at that because honestly, she doesn’t give a damn about Lila. Maybe if Lila was actually a credible threat. But really, Chloé can disprove half her lies on the very spot; she’d just rather not until she absolutely has to get her hands dirty. Make everyone stew just that bit longer.
“You’re right,” she says. “I don’t really care all that much about Marinette. But at least I’m honest about it. I don’t go calling myself her friend and then turning my back as soon as some lame new girl shows up.”
“Hey!” Kim says. “We didn’t turn our backs –”
“No, stop,” Lila sniffles. A tear slides down her cheek and it’s all Chloé can do to not double over laughing at how obviously fake it all is. “Chloé has a point. I didn’t mean to take Marinette’s friends from her –”
“Dude, you didn’t take us,” Nino says. “You needed help because of your ear and wrist.”
“Yeah!” Rose pipes up. “Marinette’s just upset. But she’ll come around! And then she’ll just love being your friend!”
“Oh, this is priceless!” Chloé laughs, wiping a tear from her eye. “Do you even hear yourselves? ‘Marinette will come around, then she’ll love being your friend!’ She can’t stand Lila!”
“And I don’t understand why,” Lila says, delicately dabbing her nose with a napkin with the hand that Chloé’s pretty sure is the one she claimed had arthritis. “I’ve tried to be nice to her! I want so badly to be her friend, but I guess some people are just incompatible…”
Chloé laughs even harder. “Oh. My. God. How am I the one defending Marinette while the rest of you treat her like some horrible person because she’s the only one smart enough to see through Lila?”
“You’re just defending her because she’s acting like you,” Alix says, her arms crossed. “Now that she’s started being mean to Lila because she’s jealous that Lila’s sitting next to the guy she likes, I bet you think she’s just the best person ever.”
“Do you even hear yourself?” Chloé says. “I don’t even like Marinette.”
“No, really?” Juleka mutters.
“In fact, I have a whole list of reasons why I don’t like her,” Chloé declares. “Sabrina can back me up there. But you know what isn’t one of those reasons? Being a bully. If there’s any one person out of the lot of you who’s least likely to be a bully, it’s Marinette.”
“But Adrien –”
“Think, people!” Chloé interrupts Rose. “Is Marinette really the kind of person to be mean to someone over a crush?”
Most of the class looks like they still want to demonise Marinette in favour of Lila, but it’s Mylène who looks down and mumbles, “We did try to help her talk to Adrien. But she told us to stop because he liked Kagami and she didn’t want to get between them.”
Chloé files that nice bit of information away in case she needs to deal with Marinette later, although it probably won’t be for a while if this lot are any indication. She and Marinette may never end up friends, but it might be wise to call a truce while Lila’s around. “So, you know Marinette wouldn’t be mean to someone because she’s jealous,” she says. “But you still rushed to kiss up to Lila because she told you a few cool stories?”
“I can understand why you’d doubt me,” Lila says, still putting on her pathetic ‘woe is me’ air. “I know a few of my experiences sound pretty outlandish –”
“That’s an understatement,” Chloé says. “How anyone believed those utterly ridiculous stories is beyond me. And see, as soon as anyone calls you out, you cry and whine and act like a baby to make people feel sorry for you. And it works! Now everyone hates Marinette. And now everyone hates me even more, not that I really care.” Actually, she does, if her outburst to Ladybug when her father had been akumatised is any indication. But they don’t need to know that. “I hope you’re all happy with yourselves.”
Though everyone’s still glaring at Chloé, there’s a far less hostile atmosphere. In fact, the cafeteria is starting to feel shameful rather than angry, like everyone’s beginning to realise that Chloé’s right. Of course she is. She’s grown up around people like Lila all her life, who’ll say and do anything to win over others for their own use. And while Chloé’s never had the subtlety to do it herself, she’s very much familiar with the whole backstabbing business of it. One wrong move and you’re done for. Unfortunately for Lila, Chloé doesn’t care about being subtle and not making enemies, because at least she knows where she stands with people while being nasty to their face.
“You told Marinette that a journalist always uses sources,” Chloé says to Alya, recognising this as the time to strike. “Did you use any sources, Ladyblogger? Or did you just believe Lila because she told you what you want to hear?”
“Excuse me?” Alya looks like she wants to spit nails.
“You believed a random girl over your own friend!” Chloé says gleefully. “Your best friend! You didn’t even look for sources yourself like a good journalist would! And hmm…Marinette’s the one who searched for sources on Heroes’ Day, right? She did your job for you and you ignored her. Because she was just jealous.”
The look of dawning horror on Alya’s face is absolutely beautiful. “I –”
“My daddy’s the one who invited Prince Ali here last time,” Chloé says, her entire body about to float away from just how perfect this all is. “All I had to do was ask him and he said there was no way that Prince Ali could’ve invited a commoner like Lila to be his personal guest. The timing doesn’t work out. And I’m sure that Rose could call him up and ask, since they’re just the best of friends.”
“I told you,” Lila insists, shedding a little of her pathetic air, while Rose looks away. “He never said that he’d be in the country with us.”
“Okay, whatever,” Chloé says. “But even if Marinette can’t prove that, what about Jagged Stone’s kitten? Isn’t Marinette the one with Jagged Stone’s phone number? Didn’t she design his album cover? Couldn’t you have asked her to check with him?”
A wide-eyed Alya says nothing, so Chloé goes in for the kill, revelling in how obviously Lila is trying to hide her panic.
“And even if you didn’t do that, you’re the Ladyblogger, right? Ladybug talks to you. Why don’t you just ask Ladybug if she’s Lila’s best friend? After all, a journalist always checks her sources! But sure,” Chloé shrugs, “Lila’s totally telling the truth.”
“Leave her alone!” Nino growls when Alya backs away from Chloé and turns away, her face twitching and eyes shining suspiciously. “Why do you have to be so mean, Chloé?”
“Mean?” Chloé smirks. “For once, I’m not being mean. I’m being honest. But you can’t handle that. And Alya’s not the only one who turned her back on Marinette, so she’s not the only one to blame. You all made up a whole seating plan to cater to one person without even asking the one being kicked to the back.”
“I have to sit up the front!” Lila says. “My tinnitus –”
“Oh, I can’t prove that’s fake, as much as we both know it is,” Chloé says. “And I’m not mean enough to accuse someone of faking a disability. But you and I both know that the only reason you wanted that seat was to sit next to Adrikins. And your ‘disability’ isn’t even the problem. It’s how everyone here made plans without even asking Marinette if she was okay with being pushed into the back row, then turned on her as soon as she asked why it was her who had to go when she wasn’t asked in the first place. She didn’t even say anything about Lila’s hearing!”
“I offered to sit up the back because I felt bad that I’d caused that trouble,” Lila says with a well-timed head droop.
“No, you said that to make Marinette look like the nasty bad guy so everyone would hate her more,” Chloé says. “My maman is Audrey Bourgeois. Do you really think I don’t know how this works? You suck.” Her eyes sweep over all her stunned classmates, who are standing there with open mouths like some sort of hive mind. Ha, hive mind. Her sense of humour is as impeccable as her sense of fashion. “You all suck. Especially if you believe some story about napkin balls cutting eyeballs out that even I know is fake, and I don’t even do my own homework. And the funny thing is that it took me to tell you all this and I’m not even Marinette’s friend! In fact, hasn’t she always stood up for all of you against me? And the only time you’ve paid her back is by helping her with a picnic where you got to eat her food anyway.”
“W-Where are you going?” Rose says in a high, unstable voice when Chloé starts to walk off. Chloé turns back around.
“To find Marinette and kick some sense into her, seeing as none of her friends seem to want to do that. Also, thanks for ruining my lunch. I can hardly eat it now that it’s cold.”
Chloé whips her ponytail around in a move honed over years and walks out of the cafeteria. No one says anything as she goes. They probably all hate her even more than usual, not that Chloé really cares right now. She’s used to being hated, and she’s too drunk on the high of actually being in the right for once. Now to find Marinette and kick a spine into her.
“Chloé?” she hears as soon as she leaves the cafeteria. When she turns and sees Adrien standing behind the door, she can’t help but beam.
“Adrikins!” she chirps, immediately rushing to his side. When he gives her the same look that he gave Lila, however, she forces herself not to throw herself all over him. Maybe all she needed was to see someone else do it to realise. “Please tell me you don’t believe Lila and her awful lies!”
“I heard what you said in there,” Adrien says. “And I think you could’ve been nicer about it but…you were right. Everyone did wrong by Marinette.”
“Not you,” Chloé insists, looping their arms together to pull him in the direction of the bathroom, where Marinette’s probably hiding out. There’s really nowhere else she can be, since bathrooms seem to be a magnet for crying teenage girls. “You didn’t say anything mean to her, Adrien!”
“But I didn’t stand up for her,” Adrien says. He looks down, green eyes crinkled and mouth drooping, and the urge to slap Lila for all the trouble she’s caused grows even stronger in Chloé at the sight. “I should have said something. I should have offered to sit with her at the back of the class. I knew Lila had a problem with lying – I should have said something then –”
“And had her make you look bad too?” Chloé says. “Please. It’s not your fault.”
Adrien doesn’t say anything to that, so Chloé just harrumphs and hopes that an akuma doesn’t come flapping its way in because if Queen Bee has to beat on her Adrikins then there’s going to be hell to pay. When they finally reach the girls’ bathroom, he freezes on the spot.
“I can’t go in there!” he says. “I’m a boy –”
“Adrien, if Harry and Ron can go into the girls’ bathroom to save Hermione or make some potion, you can go in there and cheer Marinette up before she gets akumatised and wrecks the school,” Chloé says. Adrien stares at her. “What? I saw the movies. And I’m not as dumb as people think I am. Come on.”
“I never thought you were dumb!” Adrien protests as Chloé pulls him into the bathroom. There’s no one in there, but one of the stalls is closed and Chloé can hear faint sniffles from behind the door.
“Dupain-Cheng!” Chloé announces, her voice echoing off the tiles. “You better come out right now.”
“C-Chloé?” Marinette’s voice is thick and wet. “Go away. I can’t deal with you right now.”
“Marinette, Chloé’s here to help,” Adrien says soothingly, like he’s talking to an animal about to spook. Judging from the gasp from inside the stall, Chloé thinks she’s pretty spot-on with that simile.
Yes, she knows what a simile is. Just because she makes Sabrina do her homework doesn’t mean she doesn’t actually learn the stuff. She just can’t be bothered doing the work.
“A-Adrien?” Marinette squeaks. “But – but this is the girls’ –”
“Who cares what bathroom this is?” Chloé says. “Look, Marinette, I just lectured our whole class and made an enemy of Lila, so you’d better get out here this second.”
Honestly, it’s probably shock that gets Marinette to open her stall door, but Chloé doesn’t care what it is. All she knows is that the lurch in her gut at seeing Marinette with red-rimmed eyes and a wet face should not be there because she so doesn’t care about Marinette at all.
And yet, a small part of her can’t help wondering if this is how she’s made Marinette feel with her own meanness. It’s not exactly that good a feeling. Ugh, is this what it’s like to actually care about other people?
“You – you did that?” Marinette looks from Chloé to Adrien, seeking proof that Chloé’s telling the truth.
“She did,” Adrien says with a small smile. He unloops his arm from Chloé’s so that he can wrap it around Marinette, who squeaks and flushes brightly and accidentally pushes her damp handkerchief into Adrien’s chest. “Chloé was amazing. She told everyone exactly what they did wrong, especially how they could’ve just asked you about Jagged Stone’s kitten or Ladybug about being Lila’s friend. And she also made them see that it was wrong to not ask you if you could sit up the back because they all thought you were angry at Lila’s disability.”
“It wasn’t that!” Marinette bursts out. “I never said she didn’t have it! She just – and everyone believed her, when she’s done nothing but lie but I always help everyone – oh, I’m sorry!” She covers her face with her hands. “I shouldn’t be acting so entitled –”
“Marinette, shut up,” Chloé says. “You’re allowed to stand up for yourself.”
“Especially after everything you’ve done for everyone,” Adrien says. “I meant it when I said you’re our real-life Ladybug.”
The bell ringing at that moment drowns out Marinette’s squeak. Adrien looks around at the door, panicked.
“I can’t miss class,” he says wildly. “My father would be furious if he knew I skipped class to comfort a friend. But I can’t just leave Marinette –”
“Go to class, Adrikins,” Chloé says. “I’ll stay here and talk some sense into her. And the principal wouldn’t dare punish me for missing class or I’ll tell my daddy.”
“Are you sure?”
“Please go!” Marinette lets out another squeak. “I mean, don’t go – I mean – I don’t want you to miss class because of me!”
Adrien looks torn but, with one last squeeze, he lets go of Marinette and heads for the door. As soon as he’s gone, Marinette squints at Chloé.
“Why are you doing this?” she says. “Why would you stand up for me?”
“Because I hate Lila more than I hate you,” Chloé says. Before she can launch into some speech about calling a truce because they both hate Lila’s lies, there’s the sound of fluttering and Marinette shrieks and jumps away from Chloé.
“Akuma!” the noirette cries, backing away into a corner of the bathroom.
“Damn it, Marinette, stop being upset!” Chloé snaps, her eyes flitting to the bathroom door so that she can make sure she’s got enough time to run if Marinette gets akumatised.
“I’m trying!” Marinette wails, waving her handkerchief in front of her. “I’ve tried breathing – I’ve tried thinking happy thoughts – but I can’t help it this time! I’m sorry!”
Okay, wow, Lila is so going to pay for this because Chloé totally didn’t sign up for an akumatisation today. She backs out of the room, determined not to be the first victim, but she pauses outside the door and peers inside when Marinette does something strange. As though resigning herself to the akuma, Marinette stops trying to get away and instead, yanks her earrings out and flings them into a corner of the bathroom a split second before the akuma hits her handkerchief. Chloé’s distracted from the oddness of the action by Marinette sliding to the floor, whimpering and tugging at her hair as a purple outline appears over her face.
“No!” she shouts. “Leave me alone, Hawkmoth!”
Wow, is Marinette actually going to fight this off? Chloé sure hopes so. Her nails were just done yesterday.
“I don’t want your power!”
But Chloé can see the exact moment when Marinette is overcome by Hawkmoth’s sheer will. Not that she can blame Marinette, really. Chloé’s been subject to it three times and she hadn’t even tried to fight (though to be fair, she’d been hit by Despair Bear and Dark Cupid the third time). Hawkmoth can be super persuasive, especially with all the negativity amplified by ten and surging through you when the akuma hits.
“This isn’t even my fault for once!” Chloé whines softly when Marinette’s head whips up, an uncharacteristically dark smile spread wide across her face, and she’s engulfed in dark purple and black from head to toe.
When the akuma magic fades away, the thing floating in the bathroom is nothing but an ugly mockery of Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Her skin is now a blood red, her eyes still bright blue but the whites now burnt yellow. Her pigtails look sharper, more like downward-pointing horns, while she has little horns poking up that look like hair but, knowing Hawkmoth, are probably real horns. She’s wearing a black one-piece that ends in short shorts and T-shirt sleeves, with thigh-high black boots and gloves a darker red than her skin, with hearts cut out of the back of her gloves and dotting her suit. And on her back are little black devil wings, though they’re probably not keeping her afloat since they’re not flapping. It takes Chloé a moment to locate the akumatised handkerchief tied around Marinette’s throat like a cravat, and she’s just wondering if she can somehow grab it without getting herself hurt when Marinette lets out a loud laugh and floats to the door, slamming it open and sending Chloé crashing to the ground.
“I am Little Devil!” Marinette announces, her voice warped deeply and horribly from the voice that Chloé knows. Chloé idly notices that she has a narrow black tail, like Chat Noir’s but ending in a love heart-shaped point, just like the pitchfork she’s carrying. “You want me to be the bad guy? Fine. Now I’m the bad guy.”

Amy Martinez (Character Sheet TV Tropes Style) A-E
Amy Martinez is my BNHA/AHS OC!!
She is a young girl from New Orleans and a witch from Miss. Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies who transfers into UA and earned a spot in the Hero Course. She currently resides in a very lavish mansion that belonged to the former Supreme Fiona Goode, and as it turns out, Amy originally lived in Japan but her parents were murdered by witch hunters who infiltrated Japan in search of her mother. The pro-heroes, unable (and unwilling) to take care of a young witch, had her transferred and placed under the care of Fiona and the New Orleans coven, where she was later taken in by the current Supreme and her godmother Cordelia Goode. Despite her appearance, Amy is very hyperactive, eccentric and mischievous by nature, isn’t above doing immoral and wicked things and has an offbeat sense of humor that tends to be off-putting to her new classmates. However, that doesn’t mean Amy is all bad, and in fact does have a compassionate and empathetic side that comes out when she’s with friends, especially her childhood friend Shinsou Hitoshi, ally Midoriya Izuku and later, her new best friend Ashlen Kyanse.
Speaking of which! Ashlen Kyanse is NOT mine, she’s my best friend @ashleigh-luvs-14cats‘s OC! :D :3
TV Tropes About Amy:
A Girl and Her Dog: She adopts a Northern Inuit Puppy that she and Ashlen name Dakota and he becomes her loyal animal companion and emotional support dog.
A God Am I: Not really, but her words to Midoriya during her rampage resembled something of a god complex (at the time at least).
Amy: You can’t beat me Izuku... One For All couldn’t defeat Fiona Goode, the reigning supreme at the time, you can’t beat me now, even with One For All, you can’t beat me either! None of you heroes can! I’m a goddamn witch!
Accidental Murder: She accidentally kills Aizawa by giving him an apple she didn’t know was poisoned and charmed to look perfectly normal by Madison. Which resulted in Madison having to bring him back to life with Vitalum Vitalis.
Action Girl: Amy is always ready for a fight, and knows HOW to fight as well as she’s proven to be a very valuable and proficient student in the Hero Course.
Adoring The Pests: A tanuki once got into the dorm building, because Amy let it in since she found it ‘adorable’ and even named him ‘Shadow’. And although Iida told her to stop feeding the tanuki’s, Amy continues to do so because she thinks they’re too cute to not feed.
Amy also states that she would feed the possums in America because she thought they were adorable.
Adorkable: Despite her many eccentricities Amy’s a dork at heart a shown through her love of singing, dancing and making silly puns, and then there’s her girlish excitement when she’s around animals and toys as well as her oddly endearing fangirl reactions to Brendon Urie, Melanie Martinez and Stevie Nicks. Further displayed whenever she dances and sings with Shinsou and Ashlen.
Affectionate Nickname: “Ames” by Kaminari, Shinsou, Ashlen and a majority of her classmates. As well as “Witch Bitch” by Bakugo, it was initially used as an insult but became his term of endearment for her.
Her ex-boyfriend Damien called her “Amzy”, albeit as a means to manipulate her.
Ashlen also fondly calls her “Witchy”.
Fiona tends to call her “Sweet Amy”
Marie Laveau also affectionately refers to her as “Baby Witch”.
All of the Other Reindeer: Much like Midoriya, Amy was picked on and teased by other kids because she and they believed that she was quirkless and mocked her for it to the point of calling her ‘Powerless/Quirkless Amy’. It backfires tremendously when Amy supposedly gains a quirk, but has to pretend it’s only a Telekinesis quirk. The kids didn’t stop picking on her, but she really didn’t bother making any other friends other than Shinsou because of the bullying.
And this even extends to other witches, while Amy found a new family in her sisters Zoe and Queenie (after Misty, Nan and Madison died) Robichaux opened up to hundreds of other witches around the country. Amy was initially ecstatic and eager to make new friends just like her, only to realize that being a witch didn’t stop other witches from bullying her and thinking she’s weird even for their standards, which just added to Amy’s evergrowing sense of loneliness.
Ambiguous Disorder: Has a crippling fear of being abandoned, extreme overreactions and outbursts (taking All-Might and Aizawa’s criticisms of her powers very strongly, screams at Midoriya over a disagreement), indulges in risky behaviors (drugs, shop-lifting, partying at college parties despise being underage), is highly impulsive (Iida has to stop her when she performs in combat too recklessly), prone to emotional meltdowns, shows can occasional lack of empathy and has unstable relationships (Bakugo, Midoriya, Aizawa, etc.). All of which are signs of Borderline Personality disorder or Bipolar Disorder, two of these Iida speculates she may have. However, some of her these behaviorisms also resemble Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder due to her inability to control her emotions, feelings of emptiness and worthlessness, and moments of hostility towards her peers to the point of avoiding her friends and relationships. And then Shachath also mentions that she tends to have regular ‘songs’ of suicide which act as a further indication that Amy might have CPTSD.
Anguished Declaration of Love: During a fit of pure rage, she fights with Midoriya but when he pins her down, her psychotic exterior breaks a little bit as she breaks down crying and tells him that she loves him. However, because of Midoriya’s insecurities and familiarity with Amy’s mischievous nature, he doesn’t believe her and yells at her to stop playing around. Needless to say, it goes all downhill for him from there...
Animal Motifs: It’s subtle but she has a fox motif as her handle online is ‘KitsuneGirl’ and she has black tips on her blonde hair, a mischievous and sneaky personality, her tendency to act as a trickster both during and out of combat, and her witchcraft and magic also alludes to the kitsune and their various magical abilities in Japanese culture.
Anti-Hero: She’s self-centered, obnoxious, aggressive and occasionally breaks every rule she wants as she believes she can make her own rules due to her powers, but this is her being a troublemaker at best as she tends to take a radical approach as a means of standing up for what she believes in: Love.
Anti-Villain: At her worst she outright sides against her class and does immoral things whether it’s stealing, murder or even attacking allies, although she has no plans to become a villain and merely indulges in her worst impulses when she’s in a bad mood and isn’t above being cruel to her own classmates should they cross her.
Arc Villain: In a way, and relatively minor. As the Culture Festival arc comes to an end, Amy’s overwhelmed by the realization of how the pro-heroes could have taken care of her but didn’t, along with being kidnapped by the villains and her and Midoriya’s dissipating relationship. It becomes too much for her to bear that she flies into an ultra-tantrum and attacks Aizawa, the other teachers and puts her classmates into a slumber (to spare them her wrath) and destroys some of UA’s property and Midoriya has to stop her. But in the end he doesn’t win, instead, Shinsou has to talk her down.
Arch Enemy: Amy has made several enemies, but of all the foes she feels a tremendous hatred towards and desire to destroy once and for all is Scathach, the wicked witch of the Roanoke forest who she aspires to kill and free all the souls she trapped in the forest.
Attention Deficit Oooh Shiny!: Amy is very, very easily distracted by things, especially if there’s a cute animal involved, music she likes is playing or if there’s food. She CAN learn to focus but it’s… a challenge.
Attention Whore: Almost always desperate for attention regardless of whether it’s positive or negative and always performs outlandish things or says bizarre things if it means having other people’s attention on HER.
She even goes so far as to sometimes wear Madison’s inappropriate undergarments in hopes that someone will flip her skirt all for the sake of attention.
The Atoner: After her brush with the apocalypse which allowed her and Mallory to go back in time to stop it, Amy realizes how cruel she was to her classmates and resolves to apologize and become a better classmate and friend to everyone. And she felt horrible when she needed to repeat history (including acting like a jerk) in the new timeline as a means to keep time flowing the way it needed to be but still lived up to promising to be better to her friends. It only gets better when Ashlen comes into her life and inspires Amy to keep living up to this promise.
Ax-Crazy: Shows a disturbingly homicidal excitement when annihilating her opponents in battle, gleefully murders when given the chance and is a little too happy when talking about horror stories that include serial killers such as the Axe Man or Twisty The Clown.
And then she goes off the deep-end once the Culture Festival ends by attacking her teacher, classmate (Midoriya), beating her other teachers with little effort and causing destruction around UA, until she’s eventually subdued by her own merit and Shinsou’s influence.
The Baby of The Bunch: She’s the youngest witch of the original coven of Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies consisting of Cordelia, Zoe, Queenie, Madison, Nan and Misty, with Cordelia being in her late 20′s at the time while the other girls were at least 17-24 while Amy was only 11. Even as she’s gotten older, her witch sisters still look after her as the ‘little sister’ of the coven.
Back From The Dead: Amy is momentarily killed and impaled by witch hunters in her first year at UA, but is revived by Misty and returns to her distraught and relieved classmates.
She dies again in her second year but by her ex-boyfriend Damien who made a deal with Papa Legba by trading her life for his own life and drowned her in a bathtub. Only to be revived by Madison.
The Bad Guy Wins: Sort of. She takes on a more villainous role after the Culture festival ends and all the stress, realizations and Midoriya’s growing impatience with her makes her go berserk. And so, Amy attacks her teacher, other teachers, causes mayhem and destruction around UA (although she does spare all of the students), knocks out her classmates so she doesn’t hurt them and then partakes in a big fight with Midoriya. However, while he manages to pin her down, Amy gets the upper hand and beats him to a bloody pulp when he ignites more fuel to her raging Sentio Compassios and although her rampage was put to an end, it’s only because she stopped herself and Shinsou (and later All-Might and Cordelia) managed to talk her down. Ultimately, Amy still defeated Midoriya and UA faced some damage from her rage, and in the end, she faced no real consequences as Cordelia urged the school to pardon her while giving them a The Reason You Suck Speech. While Amy was pardoned of the damage she caused, she ended up withdrawing with UA for several months.
Badass Adorable: Cute in appearance, generally endearing and funny with her classmates but also hella strong in combat with amazing powers that she knows how to use very well and make her opponents fear her. This is showcased during her fight with Todoroki in which she gets him to realize just how strong she is.
Badass Boast: Can’t help but go on about how awesome and powerful she is at times in battle, but at times it can also be scary when she’s angry.
Amy: You think you can control me? Is that what this is? That’s how Hero Society works doesn’t it? (bursts into laughter) You... really think you can control me? Wow... you know... this is why witch hunters emerged... they were afraid of witches and their power... you might not be a witch hunter... but the fact that you think you can control me? Is priceless... (suddenly screaming) NO ONE CAN CONTROL ME! NO ONE CAN DEFEAT ME! NO ONE CAN KILL ME, NO ONE!!!
Bad Powers, Good People: It varies on her fluctuating morality but Amy is usually a good person who has the ability to control people not unlike Shinsou’s Brainwashing, except she can actually harm them by frying their brains should they attempt to resist her.
Balloon Belly: Always has one after eating too much, which is every day. Especially when she went to Pizza Hut with Shinsou and Ashlen, much to Shinsou’s disgust and Ashlen’s amusement.
Because You Were Nice To Me: She and Shinsou became friends for this very simple but pure reason in daycare. She was just coloring and when he wanted crayons she happily gave them to him, and when he called her coloring ‘pretty’, she started following him around and vice-versa.
Similarly, her reasoning for becoming best friends with Ashlen is also simple but pure as they met online during the period where Amy stopped attending UA and isolated herself in her mansion. Amy is just as opinionated online as she is in real life, although she also loads up her feed with silly things that she likes along with stories and drawings, but Ashlen genuinely liked her content and complimented her and started talking to her. Which drew Amy closer to her until they meet up in real life and Amy is overly friendly to her, but it’s all because Ashlen was kind to her and listened to her whenever she vented.
Belligerent Sexual Tension: She and Bakugo have been bickering and fighting with each other since they first met as children and never stopped when they met again in high school, but they’re very passionately in love with each other as Amy says that he’s the one she’s truly in love with and Bakugo can’t easily let her go even if she gets on his nerves, he’s clearly in love with her.
Berserk Button: She has quite a few…
Any sexist remark is bound to set her off into a tirade but if it’s directed towards her or God forbid her female friends, she WILL hurt you.
Taking her hat (if she’s wearing it) off is a quick way to piss her off.
Taking her food, whether accidentally or intentionally, WILL provoke her into violence, if you’re a child she’ll hurt you emotionally, but if you’re her age or an adult, it’s fair game as Izuku learned the hard way.
Tampering with her possessions is a VERY fast way to piss her off into a tranquil rage as she maimed a group of college boys (that she didn’t invite) when they trashed the bottom floor of her mansion at a party.
Don’t say anything bad about Brendon Urie. She shares this with Shinsou, who both call it ‘blasphemy’.
Don’t tell her to “Shut Up”.
And don’t yell at her for that matter, although she gets more emotional and upset when yelled at rather than angry.
Frozen. Let it Go. That is all.
Not being appreciated, remembered or neglected is probably her biggest one with her least comical reaction as she’ll grow from irritated to enraged in seconds should she feel that someone is unappreciative of her, has forgotten her or neglecting her for someone else.
Don’t call her ‘stupid’, but never, ever call her ‘selfish’ or ‘crazy’, mostly because she’s self-aware plenty and hates being reminded of it.
Hurting ANY of her friends is the fastest way to get on her bad side as she will BURN you alive if you hurt her friends. If you’re lucky though, she’ll just hit you with an empty Dr. Pepper liter.
Beta Bitch: When she and Madison are together, Amy essentially becomes her right hand bitch.
Beware The Nice Ones: She’s not always sweet but is occasionally kind-hearted... until you piss her off that is... and then you’ll wish you didn’t.
Beware The Silly Ones: Very comical and extremely silly and fun-loving, but her classmates don’t underestimate her abilities or her temper as Amy becomes a force to be reckoned with in combat or when properly provoked.
Big Bad Duumvirate: She and Madison aren’t evil per se, but considered two of the nastier girls who use their magic for pranks and are even dubbed ‘The Sin Sisters’ by 1-A.
Big Sister Mentor: Despite her being older than her, Amy (17) is quite sisterly with her witch friend Coco (25), as she teaches her how to do laundry and other household chores with the help of Iida.
Big Brother Worship: In a way, Shinsou’s only eight days older than her, but Amy still regards him as like her brother and she adores him very much and believes in him the most in his quest to become a pro-hero. And was heartbroken when she had to leave him for his and her own protection to Robichaux.
She absolutely adores her adoptive witch sisters Zoe, Misty and Mallory. Zoe especially because she was the first that she instantly became closest too when they met at Robichaux, and then she became very fast friends with Misty and wanted her to come to Robichaux, so she was overjoyed when she started to live with them. Finally, she and Mallory hit it off quickly due to being close enough in age but Amy still acknowledges Mallory as her senior and looks up to her like a big sister.
Downplayed with Madison. As Amy notes that Madison was a bitch to her as well as a horrible example in New Orleans and still is, but it doesn’t stop Amy from following her bad example from time to time, as well as still showing respect to Madison because of her undeniable power and occasional acts of kindness towards her and her friends at UA.
Big Damn Heroes: During the Stain Arc, she shows up just in time to hold off Stain off to keep him from seriously harming Todoroki, Midoriya and Iida and even distracts him for a brief moment.
Big Fancy House: Amy lives in a rather large mansion, while it’s not as big as Yaoyorozu’s it’s still pretty large, spacious and glamourous. It actually belonged to Fiona, but when she died Cordelia gave it all to Amy so she could have a house upon returning to Japan.
The Big Girl: Of 2-A, despite being one of the shortest girls, she’s certainly the strongest one due to her array of powerful abilities.
Big Eater: Amy loves to eat and can clear a whole table due to her voracious appetite as she ate all the desserts in the dorm-rooms the first night, can eat a whole pizza as well as she cleared out the entire table during her’s, Shinsou’s and Ashlen’s first outing as friends and then ate dessert afterwards.
Big Sister Instinct: She took this attitude towards Kota. She wanted to bash Muscular’s head in once Midoriya knocked him out but the latter stopped her and Amy only reconsidered when she realized that Kota shouldn’t have to witness death a second time.
She’s also somewhat protective of Midoriya despite everything as she once dumped Bakugo for 2 months when she found out that he told the former to commit suicide in middle school.
She also displays this attitude towards some of her female friends especially Yaoyorozu, Ashido, Hagakure and Asui. And extends this towards classmates such as Kouda, Aoyama and Kaminari.
Likewise, she’s extremely protective of Shinsou, who she regards as like a brother to her, and Ashlen, her best friend who she also regards as like a sister to her.
Big Stupid Doodoo-head: Since Amy isn’t very mature, her insults can easily delve from vulgar to very childish such as ‘stupid-head’, ‘dum-dum’ ‘fartface’ and ‘butt-head’. Her arguments with Shinsou tend to delve into this very quickly.
Amy: I would have had him if you actually covered me stupid!
Shinsou: It’s not my fault dum-dum, you should have paid more attention. Instead of waving your magic around all over the damn place.
Amy: Yes it is! You know what? Instead of brainwashing you should wash your dumb face and your stupid mouth because stupid words keep coming out!
Shinsou: Your face is dumb and your insults are even dumber you jabbering bat.
Amy: No YOUR face is dumb and your hair looks like a rat’s butt!
Bi The Way: Amy shamelessly expresses her attraction to the same sex, is very much enamored with Yaoyorozu and goes on about how ‘beautiful’ and ‘smart’ she is. Likewise, she’s very attracted to some of her fellow witches in her coven such as Mallory and even Madison as she calls Mallory a ‘fairy goddess’ and Madison a ‘sexy bitch’. And as she received a love letter from Monoma, she believed it was from a girl and seemed pretty excited by the thought of it.
Birds Of A Feather: She and Shinsou became fast friends in their childhood due to similar senses of humor and then when Amy discovers her witch powers and she found out she could control people just like Shinsou. Even as they grew up and reunited they still share things in common such as witty, sly and clever personalities and tastes in music.
She and Bakugo of all people discover that they have a lot more in common than they thought once they started bonding and it shows through their fierce tempers, desire to prove themselves, unwillingness to show weaknesses and somewhat abrasive tendencies for that matter. This is despite Amy and Bakugo trying to claim that they’re ‘night and day’, nobody buys it.
This is also how and why she became fast friends with Ashlen via internet, while they didn’t meet each other face-to-face yet, they bonded over similar tastes in music, movies and penchant for puns. Although their personalities are drastically different when they DO meet face-to-face their friendship doesn’t deteriorate as they still get along and still share those things in common and indulge in their pillow talk just like any best friends.
Blackmail: Not at first, but when she gets angry at Aizawa she starts making constant threats to tell Cordelia on him for menial things as a means to get him to buckle due to his fear of the Supreme.
Blessed With Suck: Sort of. Amy loves having all of her powers, but Sentio Compassios, her unique power, tends to leave her emotionally exhausted whenever she uses it too much, and she can feel everyone’s pain and feelings if they are strong enough and Amy becomes instantly affected by them, which she says is not always pleasant since it’s something she can’t quite turn off.
Blood Knight: Amy is VERY eager to fight and spar with her friends because it gives her free reign to use her magic and overall just enjoys the thrill of it all.
Blue and Orange Morality: In a way, due to being a witch and coming from a more neutral side rather than the Heroes or Villains side as Amy would rather be supportive of others’ impulses and desires than operate on a normal morality the heroes follow. For example, she’s fine with Madison wanting to kill Aizawa, but is offended by Mineta’s perverted antics, and she was also perfectly okay with Shinsou talking smack about Tokoyami (their own classmate and her friend) but crossed the line at Bakugo dissing Brendon Urie.
Book Dumb: She’s not the best student, but managed to score relatively high in exams as she ranked 11th out of the 21 students at the time. However, Amy is obviously not stupid despite showing some naivete and is in fact quite crafty, just not motivated in school or homework as she frequently needs her friends such as Shinsou, Midoriya, Ashlen and Bakugo to help her.
Boomerang Bigot: Despite occasionally boasting about how witches are superior to normal humans with quirks, at the same time even she’s exasperated by other witches as she often says “other witches are bitches”, although is partially due to the fact that she’s had the misfortune of meeting other witches her age who are just as exclusive and snobbish as the kids she grew up with who picked on her for her lack of a quirk. And then it increases when she meets two other witches (Blair and Laura) in Japan who are somehow WORSE than her as they mock her friends and Amy quickly fights them off.
Bratty Teenage Daughter: Certainly, acts the part at times whether she’s putting up a whining fuss or showing an apathy towards things, especially towards Aizawa and Iida, the former who acts somewhat fatherly towards her and the latter who acts like an older brother towards her. It helps that she’s Cordelia’s goddaughter and she treats her with respect but has little towards the former two.
Amy: Oh Ms. Cordelia I love you! Mr. Aizawa I hate you! Hitoshi I need you! Katsuki, hey fuck you!
Brilliant But Lazy: She’s a powerful witch, knows many spells, potions and is very talented with magic and knows how to creatively use it in combat but has zero motivation in working and academics and would rather rely on her magic to do all the work for her or simply use it to cheat off of her more academically inclined classmates.
Broken Bird: Watching her mother being burnt to the stake, her father being lynched and finding her puppy killed by the witch hunters shattered her innocence. And then her experience in New Orleans added to the tragedies as she still felt hunted and hated by the same witch hunters as she was forced her to watch even more people get killed, including new friends and family such as Nan, Misty, Madison, Zoe and Myrtle. Although some of them got better, Amy was still traumatized by watching her new family all get killed, and then Fiona’s intention to kill her and every other one of her new sisters and her new godmother completely broke her. While the coven was able to restore itself and Amy emerged as a strong young witch, the events still broke her and she follows her sister’s example to avoid looking like she’s broken and instead forces herself to maintain an excitable and cheerful façade as a means to convince herself that the events didn’t break her and instead made her stronger.
Brooding Boy Gentle Girl: She’s the Gentle Girl to Todoroki’s Brooding Boy despite not being together, but they are good friends as Amy’s oddly sweet nature can encourage Todoroki to be a little more outgoing.
Likewise with her and Bakugo as she’s often gentler than he is when it comes to expressing affection and sympathy while Bakugo just angrily broods. However, they can reverse the roles at times where Amy is bitterly sulking and Bakugo shows his softer side by attempting to comfort her.
Brutal Honesty: Amy is outspoken by nature and won’t hesitate to tell someone how it is or how she’s feeling, however she’s fully aware of how it can hurt people’s feelings, she just doesn’t care if it does. However, she CAN and WILL hold her tongue depending on who it is she’s talking to and depending on the situation she does know when to be more sensitive and delicate.
Bully Hunter: While not the nicest girl in the world, Amy really doesn’t care for bullies as she defended Shinsou from bullies when they were growing up and even first met Bakugo by pantsing and pushing him to the ground when he was bullying Midoriya, and also tells off bitchier witches whenever they taunt Coco for her naivete.
In fact, she hates bullies so much that she dumped Bakugo for several months when Madison told her that he told Midoriya to jump off the school roof in middle school and said that she couldn’t be with a bully.
Amy also attacks some nastier girls at the mall when they look at Ashlen funny.
Bunny-Ears Lawyer: She’s an oddball, by and far, but she’s a very skilled witch in and out of combat, shows a cunning side and is very knowledgeable in politics, sociology and human relationships.
Shinsou even imagined her as his lawyer during a nightmare he had.
Burn The Witch!: Nearly suffers this fate as a child right after watching her mother get burnt until All-Might and the pro-heroes save her just before they can light her up.
Calling The Old Man Out: Despite not being her father, she calls out Aizawa for being an unfair teacher to his past students and for not taking her in when he could have after her parents died since nothing stopped him and the other UA staff teachers from adopting Eri, but allowed Amy to be shipped off to America with people who ended up indirectly exposing her to even more bloodshed that further traumatized her. She also chides him by saying that he’s not good at even looking after his other students and calls him ‘the wrong person’ to look over anyone.
Cannot Keep a Secret: While she CAN keep an important secret, she deliberately at times tells some secrets as she freely blabs whatever secret she’s supposed to be keeping or should keep a secret for the sake of not embarrassing her friends.
Amy: Sorry I woulda arrived earlier but Hitoshi had some really bad jock itch so I made sure he was feeling okay after.
Can’t Take Criticism: Amy CAN take some criticism, but at the same time she can’t take certain criticism, particularly about her character and actions.Any criticism or disapproval she gets, often irritates her because she takes it all very harshly.
The Caretaker: Shinsou and Ashlen are normally the ones looking after her, but Amy can easily return the favor when they’re upset. As whenever Shinsou is depressed and feeling low, Amy opts to take care and look after him by giving him space, a “Happiness” kit of junk food and caffeine, and a playlist for sadness and anxiety. Likewise, Amy is more than happy to take care of Ashlen whenever she is distraught as she stays with her the entire day, gives her tender, love and care and also gives her ice-cream to add to the comfort while also showing her some of her favorite movies or shows like Friends, The Office and Brooklyn 99.
Catchphrase: Has a habit of cheerfully saying “Oh Mylanta~!” and asking “So what’s the T Christine?”
And her favorite way of describing something unappealing is calling it “a bag of dicks”.
Character Development: During her first year at UA she had no true intention of becoming the hero Japan’s society would have wanted her to be and had no real desire to be a team-player with her classmates and only wanted to return to Shinsou, however, she grew to really like her new friends and changed her attitude and became a lot friendlier to the point of opening up and sharing her wealth with everyone and going out of her way to provide them laughter and entertainment. She did relapse into insanity for a while and had to quit UA for a short time, but still managed to slowly overcome this because of her friend’s influence. And by the beginning of her second year, she’s on better terms with her classmates and becomes increasingly kinder when her new best friend Ashlen enters the picture and inspires Amy to be more compassionate, sympathetic and helpful towards her class.
Child Hater: Downplayed, while she’s annoyed by anything centered around children and when people talk about children, she’s actually more jealous of the attention children get and doesn’t genuinely hate children themselves as she was actually pretty fond of Kota and bonded with him over the loss of their parents.
Played straight though in her case with Eri, who she disliked, but later warmed up to her.
However, ultimately her aversion to children stems more from the fear that she won’t know how to properly care for them but she claims that she DOES hate only children who are “nasty little shits”.
Chevalier vs. Rogue: She’s the Rogue to Ashlen’s Chevalier as Amy uses her magic to fight dirty and play tricks on her opponents while Ashlen relies primarily on her stealth and combat skills while maintaining a noble, honorable approach in battle.
Chivalrous Pervert: Amy is an unabashed pervert (but nowhere near Mineta’s level) as she likes to stare at her male classmates’ butts and tends to be a flirt, but she’s a good person at heart and never does anything without consent.
Clingy Jealous Girl: Amy is a VERY jealous person by nature, but especially towards the people she’s in love with, as she grew to dislike Uraraka when she realized the latter also had a crush on Midoriya, dismissing her as a basic, boring girl with nothing going on. And then she displays this same jealousy towards Camie after hearing that she had to take a remedial course with Bakugo, Todoroki and Yoarashi as Amy referred to her as a “skintight slut”.
Cloudcuckoolander: She’s clearly off her rocker, has an odd way of thinking, randomly breaks out into song and dance and seems to be pretty much be in her own world.
Combat Pragmatist: A dirty fighter by nature, Amy uses whatever she can get her hands on if it means success, often through the use of telekinesis to make people lose their footing.
She used a stone to bash Midoriya’s face while using her telekinesis for speed, knowing her own physical strength won’t do much damage, and used a piece of heavy debris as a blunt weapon during a battle to stun him and swat him away from her and then into the ground.
Once again, she uses her telekinesis beforehand to steal sweat from Bakugo to use his own explosions against him in a battle.
When in a bad mood and ready to lash out, she surprises Aizawa by blinding him with a potion to give her the chance to attack him, as well as attacking him from behind and using his capture weapon to cover his eyes and entrap him.
Likewise, she always uses Shinsou’s capture weapon against him to trap him or cover his mouth so she can get the upperhand.
Comedic Sociopathy: Downplayed but it’s clear she finds it hilarious to see other people get hurt whether physically or if a joke’s made at their expense. Even though deep down she doesn’t truly like to see them actually hurt.
Comic Trio: With her witch sisters she’s this with Mallory and Coco, with her UA classmates she’s this with Shinsou and Kaminari.
However it’s downplayed with her, Shinsou and Ashlen. Amy is always taking the lead by getting her friends to do something wild and fun, and although Shinsou is far from stupid, he does nothing to stop her and simply follows her lead, while Ashlen is always trying to reign Amy in when she’s going out of control.
Companion Cube: She’s rather fond of her broomstick ‘Brooke’ to the point of talking to it like it was an actual person, and Shinsou even jokes that it might as well be her lover.
Amy: Ahhh I love you so much baby... I’m going to take you to my room and stroke your bristles...
Conditioned to Accept Horror: Due to seeing her parents die before her eyes AND every other horror she witnessed in New Orleans with the witches, voodoo witches and witch hunters, she’s able to go through every horrific thing that occurs at UA without being fazed much. She even tells Bakugo that when enough horrible things happen to you, you’re bound to get used to it.
Cool Big Sis: Takes up this role wherever Kota is concerned as she frequently takes him out for ice-cream, lets him ride with her on her broomstick and took him to an amusement park.
And when she got over her initial dislike of Eri (but retains her jealousy sometimes), she somewhat became this to her, stating that Eri “needs a woman in her life” and becomes that “woman” in an odd, albeit irresponsible way as she lets her play with her dog Dakota, also gives her her favorite Disney movies to watch, taught her how to sing and let her bake cookies with her, but she also let her have her first soda, gave her candy and chocolate and let her buy any clothes and toys that she wanted while also encouraging her to be sassy.
Corrupt The Cutie: Already broken from seeing her parents die, when 11 year old Am is taken to America and attends Robichaux, guardians like Fiona, Madison and Zoe (to a lesser extent) slowly corrupt her into a morally ambiguous young witch who’s not above murdering and deception if it means achieving a goal.
Creepy Child: Her experiences at New Orleans with her witch sisters turned her into one as she began making much more morbid jokes about death, ghosts and demons, and then smiling at inappropriate times and generally making adults feel uncomfortable. She was only 10 at the time.
Creepy Shadowed Undereyes: Not visible but that’s because she hides them with make-up. They’re not nearly as bad as Shinsou’s, but when she’s angry, going crazy or depressed they’re much more prominent.
Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: She’s very much a comedic girl, but also very much a dangerous girl with a LOT of powers that she’s very skilled with in combat and WILL use them to rip someone a new one.
Cry Cute: When Amy drops her guard and sheds tears, she’s surprisingly more sympathetic and endearing even though she claims to be an “ugly crier”.
Cuddle Bug: Amy is a very affectionate girl who craves the affection in return and loves to hug her friends, especially Shinsou, Ashlen, Midoriya, Mallory and Todoroki.
Curbstomp Battle: Played Straight in her fights at some of the thugs at the USJ and her two fights with Kaminari and Iida at the Sports Festival. As Kaminari attempts to flirt with her, Amy is flattered but quickly pushes him out of the ring with her telekinesis within a matter of 10 seconds. Similarly, she taunts Iida with her teleportation and pretends to give him an opening to get her out of the ring, only to teleport right at the last second and then push HIM out of the ring again with her telekinesis.
Downplayed in her fight with Midoriya. She picks a fight with him after the Culture Festival when he provokes her, and while he doesn’t want to fight her he still gains the upperhand and pins her down. However, it’s Played Straight when he tries to get her to calm down and instead pushes her buttons with a poor choice of words, which reinvigorates Amy’s rage and awakens the full extent of her Sentio Compassios as she gets big and utterly dominates him.
Also played straight during her fight with Aizawa, although she cheated by blinding him with a potion, she still beat the hell out of him with her telekinesis and Sentio Compassios and only stopped when Cordelia intervened.
Curtains Match The Windows: Sort of. She has blonde hair and amber eyes.
Cute and Psycho: Amy’s endearing and sweet but also straight-up insane and cheerfully talks about murder and death while expressing an excitement when the opportunity to kill shows up.
Cute Witch: Eccentric as she may be, Amy is fairly cute for a powerful witch.
Cuteness Proximity: Amy ALWAYS gushes whenever she’s with adorable animals, especially if it’s puppies, kittens, foxes and ferrets. It’s one of the few times we see her acting like a normal teenage girl.
Daddy’s Girl: She was one to her father Hiroshi, and despite the way she occasionally abuses and disrespects him, it’s clear she has a strong attachment to Aizawa as he is the only fatherly figure she knows after her real father died.
Dark Is Not Evil: While she has a mean streak and a wicked side, Amy is truly not a bad person at heart as she decides to remain on the hero’s side so she can protect the people she loves and had no true intention of going to the villain’s side.
Deadpan Snarker: She might be flighty, but she’s very quick-witted and knows how to make clever insults and puns towards others, but especially at Shinsou, Madison, Bakugo, Iida and Aizawa.
Then again, two of her closest friends are Shinsou and Madison, and then FIONA was the one looking after her so she picked up some snark.
Death Glare: Since she’s often seen smiling, she can give one hell of an effective death glare. It’s so intimidating that the minute Shinsou sees it, he encourages whoever is in the vicinity (whether his classmates OR teacher) to leave as fast as possible or apologize if they angered her.
Death Seeker: Shachath occasionally comes to her as she says that Amy tends to ‘sing’ to her which implies that she’s contemplating suicide often.
Defrosting Ice Queen: Towards her classmates as she goes from insulting and pranking them, to more buddy-buddy with them, particularly with Iida and Bakugo. Also, while she freezes Midoriya out for a while, his kindness and patience with her allows her to defrost back to him.
Later, because of her friend Ashlen’s encouragement, she defrosts towards Eri as well.
Determinator: Sure Amy’s a slacker, but when she’s determined to do something, she gets down to it and won’t stop until she gets what she wants. To the point of even sacrificing dignity and being her most stubborn self if it means achieving a goal.
Dissonant Laughter: When Aizawa is scolding the class for knowing of the plan to rescue her and Bakugo, she bursts into sudden, uncontrollable and mad laughter, BEFORE Bakugo even made Kaminari use his quirk to get a laugh out of everyone...
Disproportionate Retribution: Midoriya drinks her lemonade and eats her fruit sandwich, not knowing it was her’s, and she flies into a rage and even goes so far as to get a plastic plate and start beating him with it and chasing him out of the room.
And then again, she nearly crushes Midoriya in her Giant Sentio Compassios form because he called selfish and cruel.
Iida tells Aizawa that Shinsou (during a depression) drew a line into the wall with a sharpie which got him in trouble, and Amy ralles a group of students to protest against him to the point where he broke down and cried according to Midoriya.
Aizawa gives her a bad grade on an essay and tells Cordelia about how she’s misbehaved in class, and Amy quickly retaliates by threatening to burn his sleeping bag. She didn’t actually do it, but she nearly did.
Distracted By The Sexy: She utilizes this tactic against some of her opponents and wears Madison’s crotchless panties and ‘accidentally’ flashes them to Shishikura during the Provisional Hero License arc to get him to back off. It works..
Double Standard: Very fond of finding these and pointing them especially when it comes to gender and topics involving humans and witches.
Drama Queen: Whenever Amy gets excited she tends to break out into song and dance, and when she’s upset she tends to go into a ‘woe is me’ mode and exaggerate her misery.
The Dreaded: Shinsou knows better than to provoke and/or push Amy’s buttons and is quick to warn people when he can tell she’s in a bad mood and even goes so far as to alert others from doing or saying certain things that WILL anger her or simply tell them to quickly apologize should they provoke her by accident. And it becomes more apparent to the rest of her class the more they learn of her unpredictable temper, mood swings and array of powers and begin to go to great lengths to avoid provoking her.
Even after their fight and even after Amy starts to become a better, saner person, Midoriya is still terrified of her.
Dreadful Musician: Loves to sing but tends to go off-key at times, and is an absolutely horrible violin player to the point were even Present Mic and Bakugo can’t stand it.
Drowning My Sorrows: Non-alcoholic example as she drowns in soda (Dr. Pepper or Big Red) whenever she’s really sad or lamenting after a failed test.
Drunk On The Dark Side: Spending time with the witches of New Orleans has encouraged her to embrace her darker impulses and be willing to do anything to get what you want and need. And by the time she goes to UA, Amy’s very self-indulgent and not above doing immoral things. However, she does start to stray away from this for the sake of her new friends.
Dude Magnet: Despite her quirky nature, she’s got Bakugo, Todoroki and Monoma all holding some kind of torch for her.
Dumb Blonde: Subverted. Amy seems and acts like a flake and can lack common sense, but she’s actually very sly, crafty and manipulative several times and has shown to be able to really think ahead before she springs into an action plan.
Easily Forgiven: Shinsou will ALWAYS forgive her for anything she does no matter how amoral or messed up it may be, and that includes murder, manipulation and deception or even going on a rampage throughout his school. And he tends to quickly comes to her defense and excuse her actions by saying that she’s been through enough and that she shouldn’t be judged for what she does.
Midoriya also forgives her pretty quickly even after she attempted to crush him with her Sentio Compassios form and destroyed his apology gift (but fixed it later). Aizawa also forgave her fast despite the fact that she blinded him and attacked him.
Shinsou: (to Aizawa, after Amy’s rage) Okay... look... I now you’re not happy with her now, but here’s the truth sensei, Amy is not bad at all, she just grew up in an environment that showed her a lot of bad things. She never wanted that life, she was forced into it, it’s not her fault...
Emotionless Girl: Amy becomes withdrawn, surly and apathetic after she leaves UA, and it’s much more prominent when she interns with Endeavor alongside Midoriya, Bakugo and Todoroki, all of whom are unnerved by her new demeanor.
The Empath: Her father had a quirk called “Feelings” that allowed him to feel what others felt, which Amy is revealed to have inherited from him when his quirk manifested in her unique power “Sentio Compassios”, an extremely powerful form of divination that allows Amy to feel and see what others are feeling, as well as their auras. As such Amy can empathize with the people around her and it makes her feel the need to help them out with anything they may need any help with.
Enfant Terrible: Upon going to New Orleans and entering Robichaux, being exposed to all the bloodshed and betrayal with her fellow witches turns her into this as she easily gets corrupted by the new lifestyle and doesn’t hesitate to help her sisters kill their enemies brutally as she happily joined them in stabbing the Axe Man to death. She just turned 11 at the time.
Even Bad Women Love Their Mamas: She’s a trouble-maker at best and a sadistic bitch at worst, but no matter what, she never loses her love for deceased parents and loves her godmother Cordelia dearly. In fact, Cordelia is currently the only adult she hasn’t insulted or disrespected.
Even Evil Can Be Loved: Amy’s not truly evil by nature, but even when she’s at her most psychotic, her friends still love her regardless of the madness. Shinsou in particular still holds a lot of platonic love for her even when she’s lost her mind, and her new best friend Ashlen has embraced even Amy’s less than savory qualities because she still loves her deeply and regards her as her best friend. And then her coven still loves her deeply, especially Cordelia, Madison and Zoe.
Even Evil Has Standards: Amy’s an anarchist who loves the wicked side of things and has no issues killing people, manipulating them for her own gain and stealing, but even she’s appalled by things or other villains have done.
She was quite unnerved in the presence of All For One and claimed that she’s never been that afraid since Fiona.
She also turned down the offer from the League of Villains because she didn’t want to abandon her friends at UA as she realized that the students there are good people that she doesn’t want to harm.
She sympathized with the League of Villains stating that she understood them and stated that Society is messed up because she would never ostracize someone for being different.
Despite her (occasionally) rocky friendship with Midoriya, she dumped Bakugo for 2 whole months when Madison tells him that he told Midoriya to kill himself in middle school and Amy was absolutely disgusted by such cruelty.
Amy will not hurt anyone innocent, even when she becomes homicidal she only attacks people who are attacking her, and even if it’s her classmates (such as Iida, Tokoyami, Jirou who attempted to stop her) she merely knocks them out via telling them to ‘sleep’ and does nothing to hurt them or the rest of 1-A.
She respected Fiona but disapproved of how she treated Cordelia, and likewise, despises Endeavor for what he did to Todoroki and the rest of his family.
Amy’s all for dirty tricks and humiliating others for fun, but will stop when she sees someone getting legitimately hurt.
Even The Girls Want Her: Her witch friend Darcy has an obsessive, mad crush on her.
Everyone Has Standards: Amy’s something of an airhead and not all there but even there are things that bewilder her or ‘ick’ her out.
She’s a pervert but even she was appalled by Mineta’s lack of shame in his perversion.
Even when she hated Eri at the time, she still tossed Mineta into the stratosphere via telekinesis for making an inappropriate comment to her.
For all that she and Iida despise each other’s contrasting quirks, Amy sees from his point of view when frat brothers trash her mansion and act very uncouth even for her liking.
She finds it amusing to point out things she knows about people while they freak out and wonder how she knew that, but crosses the line at stalking and obsession because that ‘icks’ her out.
Despite her childish nature, even Amy is baffled by her older witch sister Coco’s inability to take care of herself and perform simple tasks such as laundry and cleaning.
Evil Laugh: Gives off one hell of an effective one akin to the Wicked Witch of The West, it’s so wicked sounding it genuinely disturbs her classmates and even Aizawa.

DEAR EVAN HANSEN 2018 TOUR THINGS THAT MADE ME CRY
Yep. Back at it again with this nonsense. I saw this show back in November and needed to frantically rant about how much of a MASTERPIECE it is and how in love I am with every single tour cast member. Buckle-up dorks and get ready to read a novel. Its gonna get pretty out of order so yeah, and obviously, SPOILERS for Dear Evan Hansen ahead. :)
So it opens and a bunch of live feed from multiple social media accounts appear on the monitors and screens surrounding Evan's bed and they make little beeping noises whenever there's something new and it was super cool and immersive.
I took like 2000 pictures of Evan's red bed and all of them turned out blurry but I will cherish every single one of them.
The classic Evan rant about sweaty hands and ordering food will forever be my eternal monologue. Ben also said that line so fast I was amazed that he didn't lose his breath and suffocate!
"Ohhh... Good." B A B Y
Heidi (Jessica Phillips) is my M O M. I love her and Cynthia's harmonies were superb.
Ok fam. Real talk. Ben Levi Ross. Best human 2019. Superior to every other person on this planet and I am unafraid of saying so.
I think a lot of people, including me, went into the touring show thinking "That Ben Levi Ross is cute, but I don't see how he could possibly compare to Ben Platt" STOP! STOP THAT NOW! THAT'S NOT OKAY! Because I can swear to you that his performance was one of the greatest things I've ever witnessed in my entire life and I cried so so very hard whenever he opened his mouth.
Not only should actors NEVER be compared to one another (as they are all their own people with their own incredible talent) but Ben's singing and performing was BEYOND WORDS! You could tell immediately how much of himself he put into Evan and did not doubt for a second that he should be up there instead of anyone else. His singing was so powerful and moving that I physically began shaking and did not stop until I left the theater, which Ben himself even acknowledged but more on that later. He was so incredibly talented it was unreal and I just wanted to take a second and say that he deserved every single moment of applause and cheering times a million. I need a recording of him singing Waving right now. BEN LEVI ROSS, GUYS!!!1!!!
oof, anyways his "Waving Through a Window" killed me. I'm dead. Gorgeous boy. Beautiful.
The way everyone's harmonies mix together and hit you in that song are phenomenal.
Jared, played by Jared Goldsmith, had such a squeaky highschooler voice and the biggest, doofy-est smile which made his stupid comments so much better. I loved him a lot. 10/10. Classic Jared.
Also, I would die for Marrick Smith.
Marrick, A.K.A. Connor was so good at being a broken teenager it hurt! I loved him a lot.
It also opened my eyes because... how do I say this without sounding weird... BOI HE THICK!
Marrick was so tall and swol and gorgeous and sweet and I love him and that's my TedTalk. It also created such a strong physical contrast between Connor, who was tall and strong and scary who processed his emotions through anger outbursts, with Evan, who was skinny and small and shrunk into himself and processed his emotions through hiding or running away, in a way that Ben Platt and Mike Faist couldn't really do. It was different in a good way and I really liked it! :)
Y'all can take Stronk Connor and Skinny Twink Evan out of my cold, dead hands.
In the cast signing scene, Connor was overly friendly and smiley which made the point where it all slowly fades into anger at "You wrote this because you knew that I would find it" so much worse.
The little tug on Ev's arm followed by a subtle "Ow" before signing. <3
"I LoVE JaZZ!"
I love the way Evan sits in chairs by taking up as little space as possible! Its such a cool detail to demonstrate Evan's social anxiety and his need and want to not take up too much space.
I just need to take a second to squeal about Phoebe Koyabe, who played Alana, because she had gorgeous pink hair and I was just all around in love with her voice and her quirky little Alana characteristics.
Here's where things are a bit out of order and blurred because I wrote down my favorite things and then instantly lost the paper so... this is all from what I rewrote later on.
During that line where Alana retaliates to Evan accusing her of using the Connor project for her college application, she became completely hysterical and began crying. That "because I know how it feels to be forgotten" will always be my weak point.
"Connor was OBSESSED with trees!"
"We were partners for our Literature class while reading Huck Finn. He was so funny! He came up with this funny joke where he'd say, well, instead of Huck Finn.... nobody else in our class thought of that!"
OH MY GOD ZOE!
Zoe, played by Maggie Mckenna, was so incredible and loveable it was insane.
Her voice was so deep and melodic that just listening to her speak made you want to curl up with a blanket and just be comfortable. She was also so expressive and good at delivering her lines that you felt and understood exactly what she was going through whenever she spoke. I loved her so much and can relate with Evan's sentiments in "If I could tell her!"
"That's just what you do when you're rich and don't have a job, you get crazy!"
That entire scene before "If I could tell her" was so good! She was so snarky and sarcastic with every line and I fell way more in love with Zoe. I love when she's not played as the angel love interest and more of a real character with flaws and feelings and emotions and Maggie's portrayal really solidified that for me! I love this little Jazz band brat!
I also need a recording of Maggie's requiem, it was beautiful!
There was this heartbreaking moment in that song where Zoe looked at and read through Connor's emails and held them close, but at "That you were not the monster," she crumbled it up into a ball and let it fall to the ground, covering up all her sadness with anger and it hurt me.
That song just hurt a lot all around. Cynthia, Larry, Zoe. Just all of it, all of their God-tier harmonies. All.
You'd also be glad to know that Zoe's star-covered jeans were in full view the whole time along with the ones on her sneakers.
There was this adorable moment in the scene before "Only Us" where Evan freaks out because he thinks Zoe's gonna break up with him and he screams and promises he won't start breaking things and Zoe just has to stop him like "no, you tree-loving twink, I'm not breaking up with you!" And Evan just stands there for a second and then does this sweet thing where he awkwardly bends down and grabs her hands and shakes them with a little "thank you." Then Zo copies his little hand thing as responds "Don't mention it!" They're so cute together and lovable it hurts! Hopefully nothing bad happens between them...
During Disappear, Connor started jumping on Evan's bed during "And even if you've always been-" and it was glorious and Evan just regarded it as a normal occurrence.
They also did this thing where they ran on opposite sides of the stage and then rejoined in the middle where Connor helps Evan put on his backpack and then just puts his hands on his shoulders in a moment of bro trust and admiration and then yeets out of existence at "when you're falling in a forest."
BEN'S YOU WILL BE FOUND WILL LIVE ON IN INFAMY!
During the panic attack before the song began, starting when Evan dropped his notecards, you can feel it radiating off of him so vividly that everyone in the theater was holding their breath.
First when he fell to pick the cards up you could see the tears swell up and hear his breath quicken and feel the panic swell like "no no no, this can't happen. Not now. Don't do this!" And the second you think he might be able to pull it together and stand up, he slips and hits his elbow so hard on the floor, we all jump. He lets out the most heartbreaking yelp and clutches his arm, abandoning his cards and the speech and all hope of recovering. The tears finally start to fall down his face and they don't stop.
Still holding his arm, Evan pushes his body out of the spotlight and holds himself in the fetal position, refusing to look up and just all around shutting hinself away from everyone watching. AND YOU CAN FEEL IT! You can feel Evan's shame and horror and fear and anger and it's awful. You almost have to look away because the emotions being displayed are so real and raw. More real than any recording or bootleg out there. And that's why Ben Levi Ross was so incredibly perfect in my eyes, because he could so accurately depict and portray Evan and what he's going through to the point where you have to look away to avoid the risk of being pulled under with him and losing yourself to your own habits and its heartbreakingly brilliant! Again, Ben. Fucking. Levi. Ross.
During "You Will be Found" they also display all these younger and baby pictures of Marrick along with present day ones to show little Connor, which was adorable. But then Larry, played by Aaron Lazar, looks up and sees little baby Connor on the screen and instantly breaks down sobbing, the first time ever since Connor died as we hear Zoe say earlier that "he didn't even cry at Connor's funeral." Cynthia has to come over and hold him to prevent him from instantly falling apart.
Evan and Jared also have this awkward high five at that part and its very uncomfortable and great.
There's another just horrible moment in the middle of words fail where one by one the Murphys all run off stage horrified at the news that Evan was lying. First, it's Zoe with Cynthia following after, frantically trying to grasp what happened with tears falling everywhere. Then Larry, who looks disapprovingly at Evan before solemnly following the others. Then, lastly, in what could just be described as the worst thing ever, one of the screens become transparent to reveal CONNOR, looking in dismay at what has happened, tears in his eyes, before also walking away from Evan back into the nothingness. Awful. Beautifully, beautifully awful.
Evan snuggles into Heidi and stays there for what seems like forever during "So Big, So Small" then, he finally lets go and Heidi rides away on the couch, reaching for him.
Okay, fam. That was all the specific things I wanted to scream about during the actual show, but then I had the pleasure of meeting them at the stage door which led to some great hijinks!
I said something really stupid to Jessica Phillips/Heidi when she signed my playbill probably along the lines of like "You were so amazing I might faint. Please catch me" and she SQUEALED! It was the best sound on the planet.
When Marrick Smith/ Connor came out, I was frozen in shock because, not only was he shorter than I thought and his cool hair was tied in a man bun and he was wearing a cool beanie and some hair feel into his eyes like a Myspace profile picture, I was so amazed that he was real and was standing so close to me. I was so amazed that I stood there like an idiot just staring at him and shaking while he smiled at me, an awkward little baby, until my Mom had to physically nudge me towards him to which he responded by giggling and saying "Aw! Don't be scared! I don't bite!" I... I. How? How do I live after that. He signed by his picture and, get this, also doodled a little mustache on Aaron Lazar/ Larry's picture. I am also proud to say that I saw his slightly chipped black nail polish up close in true Connor fashion. Then he thanked me for coming and waved at me. He was SO incredibly sweet and I couldn't stop smiling after that.
When Phoebe Koyabe/Alana came out with her gorgeous pink hair I squealed and told her she was gorgeous to which she kindly smiled and complemented my dress and signed my Playbill. She was a goddess and I love her so much.
Right before Aaron Lazar came out, My Mom without thinking just called out "Daddy" to which my sister and I were horrified.
Lastly, Ben Levi Ross, wearing the best sweater ever, came out and signed my Playbill. At this point my legs were absolute jelly and I was shaking so bad I almost dropped everything, but he was so SO NICE and, as a response to seeing me dying upon seeing him, said "Oh no! Don't shake! You're okay! Everything's fine!" He was so unbelievably chill and sweet and upon my family showering him with all of the complements he deserved was so down to earth and appreciative. It was so incredible to get to meet him and tell him how amazing he was!
In conclusion, I knew Dear Evan Hansen was incredible and loved it before, but actually seeing it made me feel so many feelings that I didn't know existed. Its such a genius musical and I 1000% recommend! There was not a weak link in the cast! They were all so sweet and talented and just absolutely PHENOMENAL! I would die for all of them! :)

hey everyone! i’m brooke (21, est, she/her) and i’m so excited to rp with all of your awesome characters!! this is the first of my characters, isaac stonem. zoe nguyen’s intro will be posted shortly! if you have any questions or want to plot or anything, let me know!
FINN WOLFHARD : CIS MALE ! that’s just stonem, isaac - the fifteen year old from the boarding school. he has been a member for fifteen years, and works in ( as a ) maintenance. i heard he’s been dubbed the fervor because he’s passionate, but if you look a bit closer, they’re also immature. messy black curls, grease-stained hands, speaking so quickly no one else can get a word in, feeling too much and not enough, a boy pretending to be a man are usually associated with him, but you’ll also hear them humming DANIEL IN THE DEN by bastille, so be on the lookout for those signs.
isaac is a straight up mess, honestly. like get ready to meet the most emotional boi in the apocalypse. he’s fifteen and the younger brother of nick the dick stonem, who leads the boarding school.
isaac was born here right around when the world went to shit. he’s only fifteen, so he’s never known any life besides the boarding school. in all honesty, he doesn’t really mind that? like yeah, when he hears about how things used to be, it sounds cool, but he’s never had that, so he can’t really miss it.
uh so yeah, he still really really really misses his dad. he only died a few months ago, so isaac’s still grieving a bit. he’s mostly just angry about it. he’s angry that they lose people so often and he’s angry that his stupid older brother is in charge now.
okay so he’s got a lot of unresolved anger at nick (in case you couldn’t tell). a few months ago, only a little while after their dad died, nick took isaac with him outside of the school and isaac almost died as a result. isaac 100% blames nick (which might not be entirely fair but oh well). before the incident, isaac would give anything to break out, but now he’s terrified to leave honestly
isaac’s always had an inquisitive mind. he’s always wanted to know how things work, so he’s been taking things apart and putting them back together since he was little. he works with maintenance at the school because he’s good at repairing and building things. if they have any sort of mechanical issue, isaac’s there to fix it or at least try his hardest to
he’s still pretty immature? like he’s fifteen years old and also struggling to adjust after his dad died. he’s prone to emotional outbursts, especially angry ones. he’s trying to control his temper, but so far, he’s not very successful at that
isaac’s a chatterbox. he talks a lot, especially when he’s nervous or excited. sometimes it can be difficult to get a word in, but if you tell him to shut up, usually he does
uhhh so yeah, he’s sort of obnoxious but also really smart and i swear, deep down he is very sweet. it’s just deep, deeeeeep down
wanted connections
first and foremost, i want his best friend. they’d be about 15-16 and would have also probably grown up at the boarding school. they’re thick as thieves and isaac loves them deeply
i want someone who sort of mentored him? someone who also has an interest in mechanics and helped isaac with it when he was first starting out. isaac would probably idolize them, honestly
so he can be a real pain in the ass. i’d love for him to have an enemy or two that just think he’s annoying and entitled. because honestly, he sort of is
maybe a crush or two? isaac’s pan (even if he doesn’t necessarily have that word in his vocabulary) and he’s probably had his fair share of crushes by now. i doubt any of them have gone anywhere because he is not smooth or suave at all
people he looks up to in general? he’s one of the babies of the group, so i imagine he looks up to the older characters a lot, especially now that he doesn’t have his dad around and he’s mad at nick
really anything! i’m super open to plotting and developing him, so hit me up if you want to brainstorm together!

Malcolm & Marie and the Rise of Quarantine Filmmaking in COVID
https://ift.tt/3p29Il0
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when accomplishing even the simplest tasks had taken on the burden of the impossible, Netflix’s “secret pandemic movie,” Malcolm & Marie, became a way to process a year of stalled projects and compromised creative control. A Deadline feature retraced how Zendaya, one half of the two-hander’s cast, reached out to Euphoria creator Sam Levinson with the plea for a self-contained project when COVID delayed the HBO drama’s new season.
As Levinson rushed to write a script based loosely on his own experiences of failing to thank his wife at a movie premiere, he and Zendaya brought on Tenet star John David Washington for a movie at the complete opposite end of the spectrum from Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster; the Euphoria crew, in a COVID bubble in California, were able to keep working for a few weeks in June 2020 when so many others were laid off. What they created was a passionate, claustrophobic black-and-white relationship drama that has the rare distinction of being created during a pandemic while its story still reflects life before the virus.
On its own, Malcolm & Marie falls somewhat short of Oscar bait expectations. However, the film takes on greater nuance when considered in the context of the growing subgenre of post-lockdown movies. While this may ultimately prove to be a short-lived category of filmmaking, it already includes four incredibly varied films. Even if they all started with the same universal constraints—COVID tests and social distancing, small casts instead of big—they make for radically different statements about human connection (either during the pandemic or not), futility, about purpose.
In fact, you can plot these four movies over the axes of ignoring COVID versus acknowledging COVID in their actual plots, and closeness versus distance in the execution of said stories.
Malcolm & Marie
Ignoring the Virus and Embracing the Closeness of Quarantine
What’s immediately ironic about Malcolm & Marie is that its setting is anathema to our current situation: The eponymous couple come home from a movie premiere (remember those?), where he (Washington) is being celebrated as a rising Hollywood talent, and she (Zendaya)—an amateur actress, a recovering drug addict, definitely not a model—has been reduced merely to his loyal girlfriend. Their feature film-length fight might take place within the bounds of their spacious rented house, but every source of conflict and sticking point exists out in a non-pandemic world.
At the same time, the viewer is tangentially aware of the real-world limitations in filming this movie, i.e. the need to stay in one setting with only two players. The inability to leave that house–except for Marie’s desperate little steps of leaning out the window to smoke or of that ambiguous ending–is authentic to anyone who has been stuck in a relationship-defining fight: There are no shortcuts, no escapes; the only option is to see it through to the ugly end, only to watch the toxic cycle start all over again.
The actors’ close attention and shaping of their roles lends Malcolm and Marie’s relationship real intimacy, but it also contributes to the sheer exhaustion of watching these young lovers metaphorically eat their own tails without getting anywhere. Despite Malcolm’s appalling outbursts and Marie’s stunning monologues, nothing really changes; even his quiet “I’m sorry” at the end is a puny concession after all that emotional effort.
In fact, this ouroboros feels most like a reflection of the endlessly unfruitful fights that many a couple has experienced since lockdown began.
Locked Down
Acknowledging the Virus and Embracing the Closeness of Quarantine
By contrast, Mr. & Mrs. Smith director Doug Liman’s Locked Down casts its marquee stars (Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor) as ordinary people in the extraordinary circumstances of early 2020, when a pandemic that people still didn’t fully understand reshaped their home into a workspace, and work into a prison rather than an outlet. Steven Knight’s script—written in July 2020, on a dare—carries so many authentic field notes that it’s almost difficult to watch. You feel it from Zoom fatigue, with wine o’clock creeping up into the AM, to people talking over one another on video calls where they’re ostensibly checking in on each other.
Liman also employed the same amusing device used by the Parks and Recreation COVID special, in which real-life couples had to explain why their characters happened to be inhabiting the same physical space during this era of highly negotiating personal contact. In Locked Down, it’s Psych star Dulé Hill and his costar (and real-life wife) Jazmyn Simon as the sympathetic American counterparts to Linda (Hathaway) and Paxton (Ejiofor), an American and a Brit who are not holding up well enough in quarantine. (A bevy of cameos, including Mark Gatiss, Mindy Kaling, Ben Kingsley, and more also scratches that itch of wondering what celebrities’ homes might look like.)
Paxton and Linda’s marriage seems to have ended around Christmas 2019, but being stuck in their flat just as the pandemic hit—he’s a driver unable to work while she’s a CEO who has the excruciating duty of firing her “family” of coworkers over Zoom—has beaten their senses of purpose to a pulp. Paxton attempts to make up for that by making the masked grocery runs and trying to connect with his neighbors through shouted evening poetry, but he’s suffering the all-too-familiar depression of the furloughed. Linda isn’t far behind when she finally confronts the soullessness of her corporate job.
When fate delivers the incredible coincidence of Linda overseeing the load-out of a priceless diamond from Harrods—with Paxton assigned to transport the goods—the estranged couple decide to embark on a heist, because truly what else are you going to do during a pandemic? Ultimately, Locked Down does a better job with the romantic dramedy aspect than the heist, yet its use of the iconic London department store is as ambitious as Ocean’s 8 with the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Though there are more twists to the movie’s character studies than the logistics of nicking the diamond, the scenes in which Linda and Paxton stroll through the deserted Harrods food court—which arguably carries just as many culinary treasures—provide that same breathless sense of getting away with something.
Both films were made with unprecedented levels of safety and sacrifice, which regardless of the final products’ quality will always set them apart from pre-COVID entertainment as successes in filmmaking. But then there are the COVID films that have embraced social distancing, building it into a plot point or stylistic device rather than employing movie magic to obscure it.
Host
Acknowledging the Virus and Embracing Social Distancing
Interestingly, one of Levinson’s early pitches to Zendaya was a horror film, although of course they eventually pivoted to relationship drama. Fortunately, another enterprising group of creatives went the horror route, and they managed to fold in a poignant tale of female friendship over digital distances in 2020’s Host.
A British found footage successor to Paranormal Activity told entirely over Zoom, this indie tale has a shockingly reasonable premise: Five girlfriends, bored to tears during lockdown, decide to conduct a séance. (Again, what else are you going to do?) But when sarcastic Jemma (Jemma Moore) fakes a backstory about a suicidal friend and their medium Seylan (Seylan Baxter) mysteriously drops the call, the girls are on their own as a demonic force crosses over into the physical plane… and into each of their flats.

In the past year, we’ve all learned that Zoom calls can be awkward, boring, and occasionally revelatory—but this is the first time they’re truly scary. Host utilizes the familiar horror tropes of darkened rooms and whispered panting at the slightest of suspicious noises, but it takes on an utterly disturbing dimension when it’s five young women, in the prime of their lives, are all trapped at home apart from one another—not even that far, as Jemma and séance enthusiast Haley (Haley Bishop) live within walking distance of each other.
In found footage fashion, there are plenty of Paranormal Activity-esque moments of people getting dragged or lifted by otherworldly forces. Kudos to director and co-writer Rob Savage for remotely directing his actors, who had to learn how to do the aforementioned practical effects inside their own homes. But where Host is scariest is when it leans into Zoom technology, from a chilling use of silly facial filters to a sequence that will make you reconsider ever making a custom video background for your future Zooms.
As the demon begins picking them off at random, with the others watching in helpless horror, Jemma’s shift from apathetic nonbeliever to selflessly trying to save Haley is incredibly moving. There’s so much history to this fractured friendship that you’ll be rooting for them to reconcile, even as you realize Host’s final trick: It’s only as long as an unpaid Zoom session.
How It Ends
Ignoring the Virus But Still Embracing Social Distancing
You could make the argument that Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister-Jones’ pre-apocalyptic comedy could be interpreted as taking place during COVID, what with its many comedy stars all acting a conspicuous six or more feet from one another. It’s just that even if that were true, it wouldn’t matter, because there are bigger fish to fry. Specifically, an asteroid en route for Earth, conveniently set to make impact at the end of Liza’s (Lister-Jones) and everyone else’s last day in sunny Los Angeles.
Trying to make it to an end-of-the-world party in LA without her car, which has been stolen, Liza and her younger self (Devs’ Cailee Spaney) wander through the aggressively bright county, populated with other people doing their best to cope. Unlike the other films on this list, How It Ends makes no effort to hide that it was shot with stringent COVID protocols enforcing social distancing: Cameos from the likes of Fred Armisen and Lamorne Morris are shot on different floors of houses while Bradley Whitford is so far removed in his scene that it’s impossible to get him and Lister-Jones in the same shot.
How It Ends is more a series of loosely-connected sketches than a super cohesive narrative, but that’s how the film manages to bring in so many talented stars as kooky strangers whom the two Lizas encounter, from Nick Kroll as the shadiest of drug dealers to Olivia Wilde as Liza’s estranged psychic friend (a scene-stealer) ,to Ayo Edibiri (another absolute delight) as a teacher who decided, hey, why not try her hand at stand-up comedy while she still can? Even with this layer of grim humor, get ready for this movie to spark unexpected pathos in these Decameron-esque encounters between strangers. By leaning into the physical distance between these characters, How It Ends shows how even when faced with the literal apocalypse, humans will still hold themselves apart from one another. While Liza makes peace with a number of key figures from her life, by the time the asteroid is creeping its way to the horizon, she is faced with her most challenging, but also most freeing, task: To accept that it’s okay to just be alone with yourself during a world-changing catastrophe.

She also wants to teach people that their emotions and reactions to certain things, such as traumatic events, are always valid. FEARS: Losing control, not being able to make her own choices and someone else deciding what she should do. Losing her independence. POSITIVE TRAITS: Kind, empathetic, passionate. NEGATIVE TRAITS: Stubborn, relatively narrow-minded, critical. SENSE OF HUMOR: Relatively normal. She’s a big fan of puns and dumb dad jokes, as long as they’re not her dad’s jokes. On bad days, cuss words slip out easily, while on better days she definitely manages to bite it back. She’s definitely more prone to let them slip out when talking to Connor than when talking to Alana or Jared. CATCHPHRASE(S): N/A. MOST AT EASE WHEN: Outside during the summer, lying down by the side of a quiet lake. LEAST AT EASE WHEN: At home, during one of Connor’s anger outbursts. WORST POSSIBLE THING THAT COULD HAPPEN: Losing the people she loves, losing control. BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT: Getting through college without having to rely on her parents for a lot of economical support. BIGGEST REGRET: Misunderstanding Connor. MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT: She probably messed up one of her solos in jazz band once, which she’s never forgotten about and continues to haunt her. BIGGEST SECRET: Her sexuality. TOP PRIORITIES: Maintaining control of her life and of herself. On a shallower level, finding happiness and contentness in life.
TAGGED BY: Myself. TAGGING: Everyone!
