Once there has been a time – a blissful, happy – time, when Levi was actually the taller one.
Not enough to tower over Hange – no, he was never that tall, but just the right height to ruffle their hair without so much as lifting his hand or lean over and clean up the dirt and snoot they somehow always managed to get on their face back then, and, an absolutely perfect height to cease their endless ramblings with a curt, precise and just a tiniest bit smug, ‘You said something? I can’t hear from down there’.
But nothing lasts forever, or so they say, and as soon as puberty hits Hange, so does their growth spurt. And ever since then, they stand a good ten centimeters above Levi.
They’re tall enough that now Levi can’t steal their pants like he used to, at least, not without rolling the cuffs first, tall enough that now he has to lift his gaze just to meet Hange’s, and, worst of all, Hange is now the one using the ‘I can’t hear you from down there’ line.
Worst than even that, nowadays Hange has the gall to call him shorty, and Levi can’t even retaliate with something equally devastating, because Hange is tall, there is no doubt about it, but not tall enough for him to come up with a joke about it.
And how is he meant to shut them up otherwise? He can’t not to, since Hange’s very own brand of insufferability seemed to grow alongside their height.
Of course, Levi finds a way – he always does. A palm pressed to their mouth works just as it did when Hange was shorter but no less annoying– that is until the utter menace counters his attack by licking at his hand.
To this day, Levi shudders and the sensation and the mere memory of it.
But even that is not enough to force him to give up. He will find a way to show Hange his displeasure with them.
His next plan of action seems quite promising, but, unfortunately, falls apart ever faster than the previous one.
Just as Hange enters a state, which Levi personally calls an overexcited weirdo with too much caffeine running through their system, and starts blubbering – insistently – about their darling assistant Moblit and all the experiments they’ve done with him at their side this afternoon, Levi promptly turns around and starts walking in the opposite direction.
And he starts walking fast.
But Hange – damn them and their Moblit, Levi is so sick of hearing about him – is even faster. Their legs are that much longer, after all. And so, they catch up to Levi in no time at all.
He grits his teeth through another failure.
But– he’s not ready to give up just yet. And, although his next idea is a bit unorthodox, and it might give Hange a wrong impression, Levi attempts it all the same.
It might shut up his very own source of headache, after all, and, which somehow seems even more important – stop Hange from thinking about running the next experiment with Moblit and his deeply unfunny – in Levi’s naturally unbiased opinion, at least – jokes and how he’s good at math, biology, obeying Hange’s every whim and what not, and really, that issue that should have been addressed and dealt with long ago, so the next time Hange approaches him and the beginnings of Moblit’s name reaches Levi’s ears, he turns to face them, takes a hold of their tie and finds that Hange’s current height is just perfect for Levi to fish his hand in their tie and pull them in until their lips meet.
It’s more that slightly awkward, their mouths meet with a too loud smack and all the students passing through the hallways stop and gawk at them, but Hange’s eyes widen so much that Levi can’t help but smirk against their lips, and when he pulls away, they’re stunned into a silence so profound that his headache vanishes without a trace.
And then– just as Levi begins to think that this moment can’t become any better, Hange surges forward and claims his lips into another kiss.
And, yes, perhaps, he has to stand up on his tiptoes to reach his destination, but Levi quickly finds that a bit of effort is undoubtedly worth the sweet reward he gets afterwards.

Me: *Removes my cat from my lap to do something else.*
My cat: Father is…evil? Father is unyielding? Father is incapable of love? I am running away. I am packing my little rucksack and going out to explore the world as a lone vagabond. I can no longer thrive in this household.

Question for you, does Ukrainian have neutral gender pronouns at all? How would a agender person refer to themselves?
grammatically it does. ukrainian has neuter gender, so the word воно (it) agrees with other parts of speech when they assume neuter gender. plural вони (they) is by definition neuter too, unlike with many other slavic language where it would be a masculine default variant. so many nonbinary ukrainians use plural to refer to themselves. many tho also use singular genders, whether it be masculine (default gender), feminine or neuter. because plural forms are still an anglicism and don't always sound natural. so socially speaking ukrainian doesn't have one accepted way to refer to neutral gender

“Hey!”
Hange startles, the appearance of a voice striking them as lightning – not as loud, not as booming, but just as sudden.
They turn around, shift their gaze slightly lower, and there he is - the pride and might of Survey Corps, their most important asset, humanity’s strongest soldier, Hange’s very own best friend.
Levi.
He strides towards them with enough menace on his face to scare each and every green behind the ears cadet. Hange, however, answers his grim expression with a grin.
“Levi!” they exclaim, their voice loud enough to not just rival the thundering rain all around them, but to carry through several floors of Survey Corps’ HQ. “Whatcha doing here?”
To that, Levi’s reply is a single raised eyebrow. “I should be the one asking that. Death by Titans got too predictable for you? Decided to drown instead, four-eyes?”
Hange cackles, perhaps, a bit too loudly, considering it’s nearing midnight, and most of their dear comrades must be already embraced if not by comfort – then, at least, warmth of their beds. Judging by the rapidly darkening – seriously, how can he do that? – expression on the face’s of Hange’s beloved shorty, he thinks so too.
They clear their throat, and do their best to make their voice at least a little quieter. “As much as I would have loved to confirm your suspicion about my rapidly deteriorating mental state, this time it’s Commander’s orders. Erwin needs me in the capital first thing in the morning.”
“And you’re riding out? In this weather?” Levi tilts his head, pointing it towards the storm that’s raging in the courtyard, as though somehow Hange had missed it.
Hange looks out too, lets their gaze linger on the too heavy raindrops, then turns to Levi with a shrug, repeating, “Commander’s orders.”
Levi’s tsk is a loud, nearly tangible sound – Hange oh so wishes that harsh wind hadn’t snuffed out all the torches in the corridor, so they could not only hear Levi, but see him too.
The face he’s making must be priceless. Amusing to the point of laughing, and even if not that - it’s definitely cute enough. Levi’s face always is.
“At least, put this on,” he mutters, and before Hange can react – laugh it off, squeal with delight or wrap their arms around him and hold him against their chest for all eternity – Levi takes a step forward, pulling the hood of their cloak over their head with surprising gentleness.
“There,” he whispers, his voice nearly getting lost in the rumbling of cold and heavy rain. The lightning strikes – instant and so sudden, and for less than a heartbeat it illuminates Levi’s face – unguarded, vulnerable and so unexpectedly soft that it steals Hange’s breath away.
Their gasp is stolen away by the thunder.
They don’t react in any other way, in any of their usual way – they don’t smirk, don’t make a smart retort, they only search for Levi’s hand in darkness, and once they find it, they give it a single, gentle squeeze.
And if they spend the whole ride to the capitol, ruminating on that short, impossibly sweet moment, wondering what Levi’s actions and expression might have meant, well – this is no one’s business but their own.

Hi! By any chance do you recall a mad max au Levihan fic? I remember reading it a few years ago in AO3 but I've had no luck finding it. I think the story started with Hange getting into an accident and Levi reminescing about the first time they met. At the end of the story they reunite after Hange rescues Levi and their group from raiders. If you have any info I'd be forever graterful!
hiiii i think you mean this fic?

Marleyan Hange part 4
Liberio 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A different kind of reunion
first | prev | next
Four years have passed as they do in canon and Hange and Levi have both been licking their wounds (emotional moreso than physical) but only one of them was aware they might meet again sooner rather than later.
Hange has involuntarily climbed the ranks of the Marleyan army while doing their best to keep Essie out of harm's way. Levi has had his hands full trying to keep the Survey Corps from collapsing while not accepting the title of commander, instead waiting until he deemed Armin old enough to be bestowed the title.
The raid Eren forced them into has started and Levi is zipping around Liberio when his eyes fall on a silhouette that has been haunting his nightmares (when he can even manage to fall asleep). As he sees them emerging from the neck of that mutt, something in him snaps and he changes course.
Hange has been running around looking for the warrior candidates while fending off the survey corps soldiers. No, they're island devils. They're praying they didn't hit anyone they know. Knew. Devils. That's right. Nothing more. They stop to ask a group of their underlings if they've seen the kids, but instead of answers they get warnings. They freeze at the sight of Levi (!?) flying towards them and before they can react he's torn them from their titan and tossed them into a wall. Stumbling from the impact, they approach him, something inside them pulling them towards him even now. They have to say something to him, anything, but what is there to say?
As he feels Hange grab onto his cape, hears them call his name, Levi holds onto the flare of anger and betrayal to commit to what he's about to do, stomping down any other emotions he may or may not be feeling, hard. It needs to be done. That's all there is to it.
