Had to explain to three secular anti-Zionist Jew friends from back home (Philly area) that the definition of Zionism they were being fed and using was actually Kahanism.

The collective silence that fell in our chat, followed by the group going “oh, I didn’t know that…” was audible.

All three of them have lived comfortably in an area that has a very large Jewish population and a lot of Jewish culture integrated into it. But they don’t know their own local history, let alone the history, ideologies, and other important things of their people. I don’t fault them for this, because not everyone is diving into the history of a given thing.

But this was after they each said they couldn’t talk to their family anymore because they were Zionists, and that meant they were racists supporting genocide.

The tone completely shifted as they realized that they had been manipulated and misinformed to view their families and other Jews as “evil” people.

I then hit them with the revelation that the “Zionism = Racism” thing was a cooperative move from the Soviets and a Nazi inspired Syrian party in the 60s and 70s.

That caused a collective sharp intake of breath and an “oh, fuck”.

Hopefully they take this newfound knowledge and make good on it. I also know I only had an impact because, once again, I’m a trusted friend who is also trusted to educate with sources to back me up.

Things to know about Israel Palestine before you debate:

- recognize the difference between Zionism and Kahanism, and that not all Jews are white. (Edit: after some misunderstandings, I would like to say that both have led to atrocities, I simply wish to make sure people do not confuse them)

- if your statement criticizes the Jewish people rather than the Israeli government, you're being Anti Semitic.

- If you treat Hamas as representative of all Muslims, you're being Islamophobic.

- do background checks on those you're quoting and researching from. You don't want to reference Racism Georg on your anti bigotry statement.

- Remember that the person that compares their opponent to the Nazis has lost the argument. The Nazis are an extremely sensitive topic and you do not get to use them as a buzzword.

- Hamas was born out of the Israeli governments occupation. They didn't emerge out of nowhere.

- Keep in mind that Israel is provided weaponry by America and England, so they have direct influence on this war.

- Hamas is funded by Iran. Israel has said that this is why they attacked they attacked their embassy. I personally disagree with this decision, but it is not without reason.

- When considering who to vote for, do not boil it down to "pro Israel" and "pro Palestine". Research what the candidate has said about it.

I tried to make his list for both sides of the debate, so please feel free to make suggestions.

Are you a Zionist?

I am a Jew. That should answer your question, but if you aren't satisfied, I can elaborate. I suspect you don't have a full understanding of what Zionism even is. Zionism in general falls into three buckets:

The first is Kahanism. This is a belief that Israel should exist solely for the Jews, and everyone else should fuck off and/or die. It is an explicitly hateful and genocidal ideology, and it is what most antizionists think of when they think of Zionism. It should go without saying, I am very much not a Kahanist.

The second bucket are people who want sovereignty, a state, and self-determination for both the Palestinian and Jewish peoples. These people range from wanting the IDF to kill as few innocent civilians as possible (Hamas's use of human shields makes zero dead innocents rather unfeasible) to people thinking there shouldn't be a war right now at all.

The final bucket are Jews who don't even need a state, they just want Jews to be able to live in the Levant. Notably, if you believe ethnic cleansing is always wrong no matter who you do it to, you yourself are a Zionist (this kind). Naturally, opposing this kind of Zionism is deeply antisemitic, whereas opposing Kahanism is your moral duty.

Put simply, whether or not I'm a Zionist depends entirely on which form of Zionism you are asking about.

kahanism was the core ideology of the "kach" party, founded by rabbi meir kahane in 1971, and was subsequently banned in 1994.

i believe the most seats they ever had in knesset was 1?? despite how much they ran.

for a brief overview heres all the ideologies the kach party followed:

basically they wanted arabs and muslims out of the country, and the stuff they had in store for non jews in general wasnt cute either.

"greater israel" refers to the fact that they wished to bring israel back to its very ancient borders, which includes the west bank and gaza, as well as sinai and a small part of jordan. (this especially yucks me out bc it shits on the sacrifice the likes of ben gurion and rabin made for the sake of having a state of israel, we dont need all the land we ever had ever, we can compromise)

halachic state/religious conservatism refers to how they wanted jewish teachings and halachah to be upheld legally by the state. following in touch w their anti arab and anti muslim mentality, they wanted schools to be focused on teaching judaism. i think that stuff is important yes, but it needs to be a choice. i think like implementing 1% of this general idea is like? okay? but israel isnt a jewish only state and needs to be inclusive of non-jewish citizens. a public school shouldnt force everu child to learn halacha and how to be orthodox, if parents want that then a different school shld exist for that yk?

Kahanism is an extremist terrorist form of Zionism that sees all arabs as the enemies of Jews and Israelis and calls for complete Israeli control of the land.

Zionism refers to a whole lot of ideologies many of which do not include supporting Israel's actions especially rn.

So if you've been using zionist to refer to people who you believe support Israel's current actions and the ideology that led to this massive amount of settlements, annexations of Palestinian land, and murder of Palestinians, consider using the words "Kahanism" and "Kahanist"

I was reminded that Kahanists are a thing within the Jewish community and it’s unfortunate to see that level of shittery amongst our people. Just like we call out antisemitism within other groups and the larger ones we belong to, we have to call our fascism and bigoted ideology among our own.

Vilnai and Olmert have called this behavior out publicly, and I’ve seen a good amount of Jews in general condemn Smotrich and co as well. The Kahanist behavior reminds me of Miller and Shapiro here in the states. Just being overall assholes and bigots, which in turn makes people go “see! Jews ARE bad!”. Except the Kahanist stuff actually is theocratic in nature whereas Miller and Shapiro’s stuff is just good ole fashion USA right wing bigotry.

if you’re not familiar with Kahanism, it’s a subsection of Zionist ideology that wants a theocratic Jewish supremacist state where all other religions and people who practice them have no voting rights (at the bare minimum). It had a political party that was banned by Israel, but that doesn’t mean people haven’t entered the government on the far right with these ideals.

And let’s be honest, this subsect is most likely what the goyim are thinking when they talk about Zionism and then painting the entire thing with it. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s also been an active push to describe all of Zionism as this in order to push the “evil Zionist” narrative as well. That’s feels like a conspiracy to say, but I’m not surprised by anything anymore.

Important info to know:

The thing many goyim (non-Jews) refer to as Zionism is in fact Kahanism. Here is the difference:

- Zionism: the idea that Jews deserve a space free from oppression that acts as a refugee (typically this space is Israel as it is the Jewish holy land)

- Kahanism: Racist, ultranationalist ideology that believes that Jews are the superior people and that Arabs are subhuman and the enemy of Israel.

I see the two confused a lot, so I thought I'd make this clarification. Kahanism is an appalling state of mind, and I cannot fathom how it has become so powerful to the point that it can actively commit genocide without any intervention.
