thank you so much for this i’m going to enjoy it. i got a little carried away.

i apologize in advance if these are uh not good i think i’m a lot funnier than i actually am. i have also given up on. actual sentences and grammar.

also apologize for the fact that some of these aren’t really insults. but they are fun! :D

Aellai Darrell - idiot. i mean. idiot. please stop throwing yourself face first into everything that wants to kill you. i mean really. just. absolute dumbass.

Raewyn Corellius - has no friends, just daedra. no wonder her moms sent her far, far away.

Evelyne Antonius - honestly these jokes just write themselves. literally a drunk necromancer. i don’t even need to say anything.

Ziapiel - tiny. so tiny. could squash her like a bug. that’s a really terrifying image. needs horns to be taller than anyone else. still shorter. shrimp.

Larandel - a THOT. also a Dres so there’s that. which is an insult in and of itself. please don’t tell her i told you. i will die.

Tamera Light-Bringer - a literal fanatic. hears strange voices and unquestioningly follows them. unironically likes meridia. has never heard of a brush.

Lyra Darrell - feral goblin. cares more about keeping her hair nice than the fate of the world, probably.

Mizuki - even more of a feral goblin. literally the unluckiest person alive. afraid of water. who the fuck is afraid of water.

Damiana - i don’t even know if it’s possible to insult her. smears blood on her face like an absolute sociopath. absolute biohazard. unstable.

Alvena - stuck-up. which is ironic for an altmer who worships a mortal god. terrible taste in other people.

Astraia - hopeless. probably couldn’t find her way out of a box. desperately needs help.

Altaire - also a thot. doesn’t know what shame is. would do anything (one?) for like... half a septim. reckless. please get standards.

Adelaide Darrell - needs to learn how to say no to people. would get pushed around by a limp noodle.

Zenaide - absolute dumbass. literal poster child for dumb jock. why the fuck would you consume hist sap. why would you think that was a good idea.

Emylynn - beats people to death with a stick. please see a therapist. pretty please.

Aralyn - the most feral goblin of all. seems to think biting is socially acceptable. afraid of 99.9999% of people. the coward.

Jaede - ?????????????? speaks for itself tbh. needs to stop playing golf with skulls.

Ashe - when you try your best but you don’t succeed. would probably blow herself up accidentally.

Zanthe - absolute ditz. couldn’t fight her way out of a paper bag. really, really bad taste in romantic partners.

Asenath - small and angry. teeny tiny. possibly having serious hallucinations. absolutely no clue what she’s doing. has never flexed her ‘decent person’ muscle.

The Bargain

Just wanted to chat about the bargain Ae made with Meridia and how it came to be. All the details under the cut to avoid clutter, as usual.

So Summerset happens. There’s a few people who are around for the events: Z is off helping Raz to do ~spy things~ and keep the Isles intact and mostly stays out of Artaeum, Tam is focusing on helping the remains of the Meridian cult there after they’ve been mostly destroyed by the Court of Bedlam, Raewyn is mostly handing around the Psijics and lending her magic to the cause, and Ae is the one going through what would be considered the main story, kind of helping out everywhere. She also ends up being the only one going through the Crystal Tower with Leythen and Darien, and their deaths both hit her very hard. She’d come to respect Leythen a great deal through their time together, and of course she’s had a massive crush on Darien for basically forever.

She withdraws far, far into herself after Nocturnal is defeated, not speaking to anyone unless she has to and not showing any sort of emotion, which is somewhat jarring for everyone after she’d started to be more open recently. And then she goes to the palace to convince the Sapiarchs to defend the tower, and she hears the guards talking about the book. She looks into it, sees what Darien said, and kind of snaps.

She’s not “thrown into a rage” or anything, she just leaves Alinor with the journal and without speaking to anyone, and rides hard to the shrine where they spoke to Meridia earlier. She’s not sure what she’s going to say or even really what she thinks is going to happen - it’s not like Meridia is just going to give up Darien for free.

Ae basically starts by going in there and going “hey wtf you told him he’d be free you lying jerk” and Meridia just... doesn’t care. Using Darien to further her own ends was pretty much her plan all along, not to mention that Meridia doesn’t even really consider him a person. Not to mention that this tiny mortal basically calling her mean is pretty much the least of her concerns at this point.

So Aellai gets a little desperate, and kind of half-threatens, half-begs Meridia to just set him free. Part of the bargain is that she will never mention or try to get revenge for the fact that Meridia got her and nine other soldiers killed, and the other part is that she will drop everything and act as Meridia’s champion one more time if she needs it. She knows that that’s not a smart idea, particularly when she doesn’t think Meridia really likes her, but she’s kind of desperate and it’s the only thing she can think to offer.

Meridia says “hmm yeah okay here he is” and gives her Dawnbreaker. Ae is upset and a little angry, but this is kind of Meridia’s insurance policy. She tells Ae that it’s theoretically possible to pull him from the sword, and maybe if she comes and helps Meridia out enough, she’ll do it for her. There’s a lot of levels to this play: she insures that Ae will hold up her end of the bargain and come to help, she potentially ropes Ae into being her champion and doing her bidding as much as she wants, and she marks a well-known hero as her follower. So kind of a win-win-win for Meridia (not so much for Ae, but what can you do?).

Aellai is determined to find a way to just get to the Colored Rooms and fight her and take Darien back, but we’ll see who wins that fight. (She has a pretty decent track record when it comes to beating up daedra, though.)

The Night Mother always gets her due. Actual writing instead of blabbering. Full thing under the cut. Came to mind kind of randomly and is completely unedited, fair warning.

She would never be certain how Terenus managed to find her, or leave orders without her realizing he was there, but he always did. She’d wake up one morning, having woken every time anyone else so much as coughed, and find that the Speaker had left her a message while she was asleep. Concerning, but most things that involved the Brotherhood were when she thought about them for too long.

This morning was no different. She woke without alerting Cariel and found a slip of paper under her pillow that hadn’t been there the night before. Zi glanced at the other woman before taking it and silently leaving the room. She knew that Raz, at least, suspected her ties to the Brotherhood, but she tried not to mix it with her Eye responsibilities. (She was still trying to figure out how to tell Cariel the truth without ruining the budding... thing that lied between them, but that was an issue for another day.)

There was a tree in the woods nearby that she liked to climb when she wanted to be alone, and she went there now to read Terenus’ missive. One thing that had endeared the Speaker to her was his tendency for brevity. His letters were typically not more than a few words - the name of her target, where she could find them, maybe a hint or a special request.

So when she opened this letter and there was more text in it than she had ever seen from him, she was wary. After she had read through the whole thing once, and then again, she found that she had been rightly so. The letter had been written by Terenus’ hand, but it felt as if the Night Mother herself was speaking to her.

There was a paragraph about loyalty, and a bit about Sithis always watching that seemed like it might have been intended to be comforting but came off as threatening. The whole thing finished with a comment on how nothing could come before the Brotherhood. Family was everything. And then the name.

Ziapiel didn’t know the spy whose name was on her contract well, but she understood the threat. She would have to decide what was more important to her - the Brotherhood or the Dominion.

And no matter what she chose, Mother was watching.

It was amazing how much blood could come out of a person. It was more amazing still that it was her mother’s hand that had done this.

She didn’t cry out. Lady Revelna Dres had taught her daughter a long time ago that crying and screaming were signs of weakness. Better to endure in silence, stone-faced and cold.

“There, Dell,” Revelna said, petting Larandel’s head with her blood-covered hand. She probably didn’t even notice. “Was that so hard?“

Yes, she wanted to say. Cry. Scream. A few minutes ago, her friend had been alive, and now he was dead, and his blood coated her hair. But all that would mean was another one of the slaves taking a blow for her. Revelna Dres would never hurt her own daughter, but slaves were expendable. “No,” she said instead, and her mother smiled.

When she had been a child, her mother’s rare smiles had made her proud, happy, confident. Now they simply filled her with dread.

Larandel wondered when her home had stopped feeling like one.

Talking about things and quests and choices. Spoilers for the AD in Reaper’s March, as one might expect from the title. Pretty short (probably) but under the cut for spoiler and space reasons.

First things first: I’ve decided that Meridia literally sends you back in time for Cadwell’s Silver and Gold. How she gets the power to do so is beyond me, but I think it works better this way and it gives me more opportunities for writing interactions between different characters rather than if it’s just a ‘what-if’. So Ae and Z go through the AD questline together and have to learn to be nice even if they don’t particularly get along.

And so you know, they’re traveling together through Reaper’s March, trying to help the Khajiit, and they stumble upon Senalana and are asked to help. Z deactivates all the traps and they reach Raz, and he asks them to kill him. This is a bit of a big moment for Ae, because this is the kind of thing she normally wouldn’t think twice about. She understands the desire to sacrifice oneself and generally believes in cause over self, particularly when the good of burning the crown outweighs Raz’s death, both to him and to her. Before Coldharbour, she would have burned the crown without a second thought.

But. This is after Coldharbour and the entire DC questline, where she lost friends and is still dealing with a lot of the guilt from that, and she can’t bring herself to do it. She’s about to touch the Tower stone and apologize and her throat is thick and she knows he’ll hate her for it but she can’t kill him when Z takes the crown from her and burns it before she can do anything.

They flee, and as soon as they get outside they have a massive argument. They never particularly liked one another, which is almost funny if you think about it given that they’re not dissimilar. Z is a lot less morally strict than Ae, but they’re both quiet and fairly serious and are trying to do the right thing for the Dominion, albeit for different reasons. So the two of them having a shouting match (overstatement, but the point remains) is a sight to behold for two women who are normally so contained. Long story short, Z says something about how that isn’t what she wanted either, but she had to do the right thing and Ae understands her better than she thinks and they kind of make up without apologizing and are much less antagonistic toward one another after the fact.

They mutually agree to kill Raz for real after they find out he isn’t dead and no one’s told them about it.

-She has no idea of this, but her parents were Bosmer living on Summerset who pissed off an Altmer and got themselves killed for it so there was that

-That was part of the reason she ended up adopted into the Brotherhood, the assassin who killed her parents was half impressed with the fact that she didn’t react at all when they died and half... kind of felt bad about the situation (Astara was not happy with that)

-Astara initially disapproved about them bringing up a child who hadn’t been born into the Brotherhood but came around a little bit when she realized having a kid around made for pretty great cover

-She’s very casual about murder as a result of growing up in the murder cult and really doesn’t understand the cultural taboo about it

-Like she gets that it’s something that has to be hidden from guards but not why people look down on it, you know? In her mind it’s just something that happens, people get upset and kill each other - it’s just business to her

-Guilt is not an emotion she feels, like almost at all, and even that ‘almost at all’ is learned and not really innate

-No one ever knows what she’s thinking, I don’t even think she knows what she’s thinking most of the time

-Literally where the fuck did you pull that knife from

-Carrying enough knives to make a convincing porcupine costume

-Will just stare at you unsettlingly if she thinks you said something dumb until you take it back or say something less dumb

-Her morality system is ??? at least until Raz sits her down and explains that no, she can’t just murder everyone she has problems with

-Small and plain and really easy to overlook in a crowd and generally good at hiding

-Has no idea how to approach her feelings for Cariel or even like... how to act around her and they start dating because one day Cariel just gets fed up and kisses her

Ahhhhh, thank you so much for the ask! I’m gonna answer for everyone, so here goes! Hope you enjoy :)

Aellai Darrell doesn’t smile. Like pretty much at all. I’ve written pages and pages of stuff for her, and I think she actually smiles like twice. Once after she’s fully recovered from being impaled trying to save a friend and once when she finds Darien in the Spiral Skein after he’s been kidnapped by Mephala and she hasn’t seen him since Coldharbour. Mostly if she’s happy about something, her face gets a little softer, and if she’s very happy the corners of her lips might turn up. She’s pretty serious most of the time, even though she was a very smiley child, due to the need for her to keep her emotions in check or risk setting something on fire (again).

Raewyn Corvanne half-smiles most of the time. She’ll quip something sarcastically and then give a bit of a smile to show she was joking or half-smirk to show she wasn’t. If she’s actually happy about something rather than just being sarcastic, her smiles are small, soft, and short. If she’s unbelievably ecstatic you might see her show teeth, but probably not.

Larandel smirks more than she smiles. You know, the smile that you get from people that says “I am right and also better than you, get used to it”. She smiles more freely (and genuinely) around Naryu and a few other close friends, and you’ll know if it’s genuine because her face seems to actually light up. She’s good at faking smiles for her job (professional assassin and all), Duchenne smile and everything, but there’s just something missing compared to when she’s actually happy.

Tamera Light-Bringer smiles often and brightly. When people talk about a smile that could light up a room, hers absolutely qualifies. This may or may not have something to do with being an occasional vessel for a Daedric Prince of Light - I’m sorry, Daedric Prince of Radiant Energies. She’s almost too smiley for most peoples’ tastes, but it definitely goes a long way to making people feel comfortable around her without knowing her well.

Ziapiel smiles less than Aellai does when she’s growing up. A lot of her brothers and sisters are very casual about murder, but she... isn’t, even though she grows up in the Brotherhood. After she ends up as an Eye, she starts smiling more, though it happens slowly. Cariel will say something that makes her cold expression soften, and then Raz will make a joke that causes her to chuckle. Eventually, she becomes a much happier person and way more willing to show it by smiling, though she still isn’t prone to ostentatious displays of emotion and her smiles are still pretty small and personal.

Evelyne Antonius is very bubbly and cheerful when she’s drunk. She laughs a lot, very genuinely, and often smiles really widely for no reason. She’s still kind of silly and smiles freely when she’s sober and off-duty, but on-duty Evelyne is typically stone-faced (though she does make an exception for some of her personal spies). She smiles less widely and more softly when she’s really happy.

Lyra Darrell smiles a lot. She feels her emotions very freely and very powerfully, so if she’s happy she’ll be grinning from ear to ear, but you’ll also know very quickly if she’s upset. Similarly to Evelyne, her smiles are a lot gentler if she’s really happy. She doesn’t really have Evelyne’s serious mode though, she’s usually pretty smiley as long as she’s in a good mood, and she’s probably in a good mood more often than not.

Oh man thank you so much!!! I love babbling about my characters lol you didn’t specify anyone, so I hope you don’t mind if I pick randomly! I talked about Ae and Ev yesterday, so, not having looked at the questions yet, I’m gonna do Tam for 2, Lara for 6, Z for 14, and Rae for 20. If you had someone specific in mind I’m more than happy to go back and answer more questions ^^

2. How educated is your oc? Did their parents teach them, did they have a tutor or were they apprenticed to a master, or did they attend a university? What university? What are they educated in? How long did their education take? (Learned skills like blacksmithing count here too!)

Tamera is, uh, pretty uneducated, to put it bluntly. Comes with being raised in a secluded temple in the middle of the mountains rather than a proper town with actual teachers. It was pretty useful in terms of learning practical skills, though - she knows how to hunt and cook, how to sew and how to tend a wound. Her magic is also sort of interesting, because she didn’t really learn the traditional way. There were a few other members of her cult who could use magic and who taught her the basics, but she only became proficient when Meridia began to work through her. So a lot of her magic is inherently tied to her special bond with the Daedra, and would probably disappear if she were ever to do something that really angered her. (Thankfully for her, she’d pretty much rather pull off her own nails than make Meridia upset, so she probably won’t lose it anytime soon.)

6. Does your oc have a family of origin? How many members of their FoO are still living? Do they have a good relationship? How much contact does your oc have with their FoO? How in-the-loop is your oc’s FoO about your oc’s being Dragonborn/HoK/Nerevarine?

Ha... ha... ha. Larandel hates her family. She was born to a Great House (still taking guesses on which one it is! she’s hid the records pretty well though) that practiced slavery, and it wasn’t very long before she grew to despise the practice. She became friends with an older Khajitti slave when she was a child, and in order to teach her child the ways of the world, her mother had the slave beaten and then killed. Her mother was not a nice person. (Neither was her father, but he was more distant than her mother was.) So as soon as she was old enough, she ran away and joined the Morag Tong to spite her family. They disowned her, but still keep tabs on her. She tries to avoid them as much as possible. So, uh, yeah, they don’t really keep in contact or get along very well.

14. How well-liked is your oc? What is their reputation, if they’re well-known? Are they simply liked/disliked, or are they respected but feared, or personally liked but not taken seriously, etc? Do major factions consider your oc an important player?

Z isn’t well known at all, and she likes it that way. Mostly because if anyone knew who she was and her origins they might well have her arrested or worse. The people who know her well mostly like her (or at least like having her on their side), if they find her between somewhat and extremely unsettling. (I, personally, cannot blame them. She’s a small elf who could and would disembowel you in your sleep.) She also just prefers being able to operate without having any eyes on her, and it’s far easier to do that when no one from opposing factions (or even her own for the most part) consider her to be of any importance.

20. What does your oc wear in the city/settlements? In the house? When travelling, but not adventuring or expecting combat? Do they vary their clothes depending on what hold/city they’re in? If they don’t, why not (e.g., if your oc wears the same outfit to tend their garden or lounge around the house as they did to meet Ulfric or Elisif, why?) Does your oc have a good or bad sense of fashion? How many clothes does your oc have?

Raewyn is definitely the most fashion-conscious of my characters. Part of this comes from the fact that her moms ran a clothing store in the Imperial City (Umbara was a tailor, and Octavia pretty wicked with numbers and sales pitches), but she also just has the infuriating quality of looking good in almost anything. Around the town, it’s usually something simple with her hair just tied back and out of the way (for reference, the pic of her on the character page is pretty typical for her), but she’ll actually do her hair and wear a nice dress if it’s an important occasion. She has... more clothes than anyone could possibly need, tbh. There’s definitely a hint of vanity in there.
