Big World (2024, China)
Director: Lina Yang
Writer: You Xiaoying
Mini-review:
This is a hard movie to review. On the one hand, I can tell it's very well-intentioned in its portrayal of living with a disability in China, bringing to light truly important social issues. On the other hand, that doesn't change the fact that sometimes it leans towards a condescending and even pitying tone. And there's also the whole thing about casting an able-bodied actor for the lead role, a detail that will be even more divisive. It makes the representation weaker, but if you look at it from a technical point of view, Jackson Yee's performance is nothing short of outstanding. I already considered him the best actor of his generation, and his work on this film cements that. At the end of the day, I wouldn't say Big World is harmful or anything remotely like that, but its efforts don't mean there's not better representation out there.

Nome: Zhao Jiali Faceclaim: Zhang Jingyi, Atriz Data de nascimento e idade: 16.03.1999 — 24 anos Gênero: Feminino Etnia e nacionalidade: Chinesa, China
Moradia: Yongsan-gu Ocupação: Barista, 1987 Rooftop and Lounge Qualidades: Gentil, Resoluta Defeitos: Utopista, Leviana User: @bks_jiali
TW: Homofobia

Chen Daoming in Coming Home (Zhang Yimou, 2014)
Cast: Chen Daoming, Gong Li, Zhang Huiwen, Guo Tao, Liu Peiqi, Zu Feng, Yan Ni, Xin Baiqing, Zhang Jaiyi, Chen Xiaoyi, Ding Jiali. Screenplay: Zou Jingxi, Zho Xiaofeng, based on a novel by Yan Geling. Cinematography: Zhou Xiaoding. Production design: Lin Chaoxiang, Liu Jiang. Film editing: Meng Peicong, Zhang Mo. Music: Qi Gang Chen.
Coming Home is a story of post-traumatic stress, in which the PTSD is not just manifest in particular people but in a whole society. The immense trauma of the Cultural Revolution of the 1960s and '70s was shared by an entire people, though it's embodied in Zhang Yimou's film in a single family: Lu Yanshi (Chen Daoming), his wife, Feng Wanyu (Gong Li), and their daughter, Dandan (Zhang Huiwen). Like many intellectuals, Lu, a professor, is sent during the Cultural Revolution to the countryside to work as a laborer, but he escapes and returns to his family, which has been warned by the authorities to turn him in. When he shows up at their home, Feng wants to hide him, but Dandan, an ambitious young ballet student, betrays him on the promise that she will get the lead role in a production of The Red Detachment of Women. When Lu is finally released and returns home, he finds that Dandan has given up her ballet career -- the promised lead role was denied her anyway -- and is estranged from her mother, who has never forgiven her. But Feng has suffered another trauma, which affects her memory: Not only does she forget mundane daily tasks, she also fails to recognize Lu when he appears. Because she has been told that he will be returning on the fifth of the month, she goes to the train station once every month to wait for him, returning in disappointment. Lu tries everything he can to restore his wife's memory: He pretends to be a piano tuner so he can play a song they once shared, and when a cache of letters he wrote to her on scraps of paper while in prison shows up, he reads them to her, becoming a familiar figure in her life and engineering a rapprochement between her and Dandan, but never quite breaking through the block in her memory. It's a somewhat conventional and sentimental story, but Zhang makes it work, with the special help of three exceptional actors. Gong Li gives one of her finest performances as the deeply damaged Feng Wanyu, her face revealing the exact moment when her flickering hopes of reunion with her husband are extinguished by doubt or disappointment or fear. Chen Daoming makes Lu's patient, dogged attempts to cope with his wife's disorder credible, even when the script by Zou Jingzhi sags occasionally into predictability. And Zhang Huiwen, discovered by Zhang Yimou at the Beijing Dance Academy, is both a fine dancer and an actress capable of evoking Dandan's adolescent petulance.

China: 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup Champions
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/30a9e0e681c668491f7b54229ac299c7/c7ba32d202767e21-0a/s540x810/ffbfaba7179c3991fdd1d35a9ecd6015054d0a39.jpg)
Navi Mumbai: China PR came from two goals down to defeat Korea Republic 3-2 in a pulsating AFC Women's Asian Cup India 2022™ final at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
Korea Republic looked to be cruising to their first crown after taking a 2-0 lead at half-time but China PR fought back after the break through goals from Tang Jiali, Zhang Linyan and Xiao Yuyi - who netted the winner deep into added time to seal her side a record-extending ninth title.
China PR head coach Shui Qingxia hailed her players’ performance in capturing their historic ninth title.
“This is the most critical moment for China PR women’s football,” said Shui. “Despite trailing 2-0 my players showed determination to fight back. I like to thank all the players for winning the title but they also won it for themselves.”
Korea Republic head coach Colin Bell was proud of his players despite missing out on their first title.
"I'm proud of the players, I told them that after the match," said Bell. "We need to keep improving and not let this defeat diminish our spirit. We're bitterly disappointed. We need to be stronger mentally. The penalty against us, took our concentration away."
China PR entered the final chasing their first title since 2006 against a Korea Republic side who had never laid their hands on the coveted trophy.
China PR, unbeaten in seven previous meetings with Korea Republic, started the game brightly and had the first look at goal within seconds when Wu Chengshu played the ball to Tang Jiali just above the area, but the midfielder’s effort was easily dealt with by Korea Republic goalkeeper Kim Jung-mi.
China PR continued to press with Zhang Xin trying from 35 yards out while Wang Shuang saw her effort in the 10th minute saved by Kim.
Korea Republic began to see more of the ball as the half progressed and were rewarded with their first look at goal in the 27th minute, with Lee Geum-min breaking into the box before sending a cross to Choe Yu-Ri to score the 100th goal of the tournament.
With Korea Republic in the ascendancy, China PR survived a scare at the half-hour mark, goalkeeper Zhou Yu pulling off a point-blank save to deny Lim Seon-Joo’s header off a free-kick.
China PR, however, suffered more woe in the closing stages of the first half when a VAR review saw Korea Republic awarded a penalty for Yao Lingwei’s handball, with Ji So-yun converting from the spot.
China PR head coach Shui sent on Xiao Yuyi and Zhang Rui at the start of the second half to force their way back into the game but Korea Republic gave them little room to operate in the early stages.
China PR, however, received a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty for Lee Young-ju’s handball, with Tang Jiali netting from the spot in the 68th minute.
Boosted by the goal, China PR began to dictate play and drew level four minutes later thanks to some poor defending by Korea Republic.
Goalscorer Tang did well to beat two Korea Republic defenders before sending a delightful cross into the six-yard-box for an unmarked Zhang Linyan to nod home the equaliser.
Korea Republic could have then won it at the death with Zhou Yu pulling off a one handed save before defender Wang Xiaoxue blocked Son Hwa-Yeon’s effort.
Having escaped, China PR broke Korea Republic's hearts in added time with Xiao Yuyi stunningly finishing off Wang Shanshan’s pass as a record-extending ninth title was sealed.

Dashilar Panorama by Drawing Architecture Studio
In the hutongs around Yangmeizhu Xiejie in the south downtown of Beijing, as an unprecedented experiment of old city redevelopment, Dashilar Project has adopted a gentle and elegant approach: all the acquired old houses are remained untouched regardless their conditions and are rented to carefully selected new owners who have creative minds and are willing to be blended into hutong life. Based on the elevations of the architecture, Dashilar Panorama represents the relation between hutongs and architecture from an extraordinary viewpoint, which creates a unique visual effect. The addition of various environment, space, and figure details makes the panorama not only an observation and documentation on the space, but also a vivid rendering of the secular life.

Silver-hydroxyapatite composite coatings with enhanced antimicrobial activities through heat treatment
Publication date: 25 September 2017 Source:Surface and Coatings Technology, Volume 325 Author(s): Xuefei Zhang, Wanaruk Chaimayo, Cheng Yang, Jiali Yao, Benjamin L. Miller, Matthew Z. Yates Silver nanoparticles deposited on hydroxyapatite coatings (Ag-HA) by a two-stage electrochemical method were found to impart inconsistent antibacterial properties to the bioactive coatings. To test the hypothesis that oxidation of the silver nanoparticles would enhance antimicrobial activity, the coatings were heated in air at 170° C for 8h. Following heat treatment, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed the formation of silver oxide on the surface of the silver nanoparticles. The heat treatment did not cause any measurable change in the crystal structure of the coating as determined by X-ray diffraction. Bacterial culture tests revealed that the heated Ag-HA coatings were able to kill Escherichia coli (E. coli) more consistently than non-heated coatings. It is believed that silver nanoparticles in the heated Ag-HA coatings can release more Ag+ ions into the bacterial suspension, since Ag+ ions play a significant role in antibacterial activity. The heat treatment temperature of 170° C is high enough for dry heat sterilization protocols, yet low enough to allow hydroxyapatite crystals to remain stable. The heat treatment process therefore offers a simple technique to ensure consistent antimicrobial activity from the bioactive Ag-HA composite coatings.
