as someone whose always been more of a fan of chicken sandwiches over hamburgers, its so odd how the chicken sandwich is now a popular item.

so apparently  this all started in 2019 when popeyes introduced a new chicken sandwich, which then became so popular that people were turned away since they ran out.

Then there was a “chicken sandwich wars” which like before today I assumed all the places were going more to a chick-fa-la style sandwich but it doesn't seem that,that was the start of a change in sandwich types.

Now I'm meaning fried chicken specifically but it seems like just recently popeyes has made a grilled chicken sandwich as well called “blackened chicken sandwich” Which with falling chicken prices this might lead to the start of another round of this dumb competition nonsense.

Looking at the wikipedia page for this topic “ By January 2021, more than 20 American fast food brands had introduced chicken sandwiches.[2] In addition to Popeyes and Chick-fil-A, they included: Golden Chick, KFC, Fatburger, Church's Chicken, Wendy's, BurgerFi, Zaxby's, Fuku, Jack in the Box, Sonic, Carl's Jr., Shake Shack, Boston Market, McDonald's, Pollo Campero, Taco Bell (which introduced its Chicken Sandwich Taco), Bojangles, Panera Bread, Burger King, and Panda Express (which introduced its Orange Chicken Sandwich).“

Which is odd since these articles act like many of these restaurants just didnt have a chicken sandwich,when that was not the case. Wendys and Mcdonalds are two places with examples of Chicken sandwiches that personally ive been eating for years, heck it seemed like the idea of a spicy and non spicy chicken sandwich on a menu was stolen from wendys by chick-fa-la but honestly thats more because im biased. Mcdonalds has now 2 chicken sandwiches, the mchicken, and one thats just a slightly better chick-fa-la sandwich but chick’s sandwiches and fries are awful. 

Anyways, why are these places trying to be like popeyes? See the fast food chicken landscape has always been interesting to me. See how I see it is that chicken can have alot of variety. For an example, popeyes represents Cajun Louisiana style chicken, then kfc represents Kentucky style chicken. Like i work at a wing style restaurant and we have different sauces. We have a chicken sandwich which is a chicken breast tossed in your choice of sauce on a brioche bun, then personally i add mayo on it. The sandwich is big, saucey, isant bare bones and i feel like is worth it. But the thing is, in these fast food places, they seem to just be copying chicken, pickle and mayo, and thats it. Like I havent had the popeyes sandwich but from the looks of it, it seems to work for that sandwich, the chicken has a crisper breading so it holds in the moisture, there is the spicy mayo to give it some funk, and 3 thick cut pickle slices.

My problem is that the landscape used to be varied, if i want crispy, I goto wendys, usually a spicy chicken sandwich, if i want a little something and some mayo and lettuce then the classic mchicken it is, if i feel homophobic and want a sweeter breading that is good but will probably fall off since the little bags they come it make all the steam just make the sandwich all soggy, then chick-fa-la it is.

Zaxby's

Today we will be reviewing Zaxby's. I ordered the wings and things meal which comes with five boneless or traditional wings, three chicken tenders, fries, toast, 2 sauces, and a drink. I went with the hot honey mustard sauce for my wings. The sauce isn’t hot at all but is different from the original honey mustard they had before. The wings and chicken tenders are always good when fresh. The seasoned crinkle fries are only good when fresh out of the grease and not sitting for a while. The toast is always good every time. I rate zaxby’s a 10/10 when everything is fresh but a 7/10 when it’s not as fresh as it should be.
