your question is not rude at all, please do not stress :)

in general my thoughts about shipping are —> if there’s no solid evidence of the being being a couple or having romantic feelings for each other, then i don’t ship them.

but there are a few which slip through that structure of mine:

i do ship yuto x ruri a lot as well as as yuzu x yuzu and yugo x rin. i don’t really ship yuri x serena or zarc x ray but i can understand why people do

yusei x aki and jack x carly are my other big ones. i love carly and aki and i was so happy in the little scenes where they would show their affection to jack/yusei

in zexal i do kinda ship rio x thomas. i have no idea why. but there was one episode where thomas had said some things in regard to caring about rio and i kinda love it. i know there’s not much evidence but it’s just a ship that i do like

other than the ones i’ve listed, i can’t really remember any ships from the other ygo series

For the meme, 001 for Zarc/Ray

when I started shipping it if I did:  so like, before zarc and ray was revealed, I did not actually like the fact that all the bgirls x yuboys were shipped like that together cuz I thought “that’s awfully convenient” (past me is… hilarious). I still shipped them regardless tho lol And so like, I was really determined not to ship zarc and ray (ahahaaaaaaaaAaaaa). When episode 125 and 126 aired, I was like “oh thank god, Zarc and Ray aren’t romantic, they didn’t even know each other, oh good.” Ya know, overwhelming sense of relief and whatnot. And then… a strange thought hit me… BUT WHAT IF THEY WERE IN LOVE!??!?! and uhhhh, I walked backwards into hell and never looked back.

my thoughts: I can’t believe past me contemplated not shipping them since it’s such a fun example of enemies into lovers / star cross lovers and really fuels so much “what if” fantasies. I’ve always wanted something of this dynamic and I finally got it and even with what little I have of them, I loved it instantly. Like, their counterpart selves really show that had they meant, a lot could’ve been prevented and it’s a tragedy in that sense. 

What makes me happy about them: Their designs and how pretty they are. How easily I can be like “zarcray au when”. Their fucking shipname. What they dynamic could’ve been. How friendly the fans are. The shitposts. 

What makes me sad about them: They didn’t even get a conversation or like, sharing the screen and I will always be sad about that cuz everything gotta be created.

things done in fanfic that annoys me: I will say, while it doesn’t annoy me so much, I don’t really need origin stories that go down the same route and hit the same beats and plot points. IDK, it was prominent in the early days and not so much now. So I guess not much annoys me whoops

Actually since that ask has me thinking on some more Yugioh x Fate parallels, heres my long winded tangent on how Zarc from Arc V classifies as a Beast of Humanity and Ray as an Avenger Class Servant

Zarc:

-was originally a normal human who through the arrogance and cruelty of humanity in wanting him to hurt other people became a monster intent on destroying humanity in the same type of death game he was subjected too

-beast class beings are "empowered by civilization" and grow in power in proportion to the advancement of humanity. they also appear in the same way that servants are and can exhibit their own fantastical abilities by the same way heroic spirits can. Zarc was literally created from a combination of advanced solid vision technology and duel monster spirits in his four dragons, which is part of why the universe was split when he was defeated, he had literally become a fundamental force of the universe when his existance joined both the human world and the duel monster dimension

-Zarc was able to completely fight off all of humanity by himself and was only able to be defeated by a weapon created to be his perfect antithesis by stripping him of the impurities and cruelties that made him, but even then he couldn't truly be destroyed because he had become ingrained as a part of the universe. his soul only truly moved on when he could see that humanity wouldnt make another like him again

-all beast class beings are defeated by having humanity overcome their own "evils" through defeating them and preventing humanity from stagnating (which is actually part of what happened in the Original Dimension, with humanity being ok with bloodsport matches). Goetia was fully defeated when he acknowledged that humanity doesnt need to be overseen or put down, Kiara and Kama are defeated by having their "love" rejected and shown to be wrong, even Primate Murder/Fou was technically defeated when by witnessing all of humanity, he didnt turn into a horrifying monster but rather came to love the people he's traveled with for so long that he gave up his sentience to revive his friend. Zarc was fully defeated when his reincarnation showed him a new path towards making people smile, and in doing so promising that no one will suffer like he did ever again

-the beast class cant be overcome by any one human: Ray was only able to split him apart and it was with the help of Yuya and everyone in the new Pendulum Dimension acknowledging their mistakes that he was able to rest.

-the beast class beings arent based solely around the 7 sins, since what created Zarc was the cruelty and indifference of an audience that loved to see him slaughter. He would be the Beast of Savagery, born of humanitys inherent cruelty

Ray:

-avenger class servants arent the natural enemies of humanity, rather theyre entities of revenge that were betrayed to the point where their rage runs eternal against humanity

-from the little we do know about Ray, the only person she really cared about was her father, who because of the auidence pushing Zarc too far, she almost lost when he volunteered to activate the En Cards

-beast class beings have a damage reduction modifier against avenger class servants, which makes sense because Beasts are attributes of humanity pushed to their absolute extreme, while avengers exist as envoys of revenge made to cull the aspects of humanity that wronged them. Ray, in a way, is taking revenge against Zarc for what he did to the Original Dimension by establishing herself as his natural enemy

-Ray, much like avengers, really does want to believe in the people who wronged them. All avenger servants are such because they were wronged first, but even in their lines you can see that despite their hatred of humanity, they still want to live without their eternal hatred, and any animosity Ray may have had towards Zarc was lost long ago when in splitting themselves she was how Zarcs "natural state" was three boys who wanted to make people happy and one who was likely the same but lost to her fathers grief. You can even see it with Rays insistance that Zarc, despite everything, was a good person caught in a bad situation

What i like/dislike about them

I like the concept of him being who the yu boys originally were before the dimensions were split into 4. And i think i kinda understand the whole point that his audience practically moulded him towards becoming who he is now. I really don't get/like why they had to change what he looked like originally when all the yu boys became one. They decided to give him this monstrous kind of appearance (with the practically photoshopped on yuya hair) i mean he could've done his thing perfectly fine in his original body. It just seemed a little unnecessary. (i Could go on about what i don't like about zarc but nah)

What i like about their appearance

I am being honest here. I only really like his original design (as in his original body before dimension splitting shinanagans) the only things i like about his monstrous look is the glowy yellow eyes, the black wings and the fact that it makes merging with your dragon work.

Anyways i like the color scheme of his hair the light grey and matcha green works for him. And then his dueltainer outfit is certainly neat.

Do i prefer to use dub or sub names for them?

I’m not sure if I would ever finish this but this is just the linework of what I have so far before I was like…. “but I kinda want a more humorous thing too….hrg….”

I honestly have to wonder why is it the anti-shippers of the Dragon Boy X Bracelet Girl ships(Fruit, Apple, FallenAngel and Predator) are all “THE SHIPS WERE DESTINED??? HOW FORCED?” Mostly cause when did Arc-V even imply those ships were destined to happen? I feel most of the shippers don’t think they’re relationships that were destined. If anything most shippers think what makes the relationships so amazing is they weren’t destined at all but they still happened! Well except Predator but there are reasons for that. 

Zarc himself admitted his soul awoke in episode 1 so he had no direct influence on the Dragon Boy’s relationships and HE HATES RAY. Ray for her part is much less involved in the Bracelet Girls’ lives as shown by how she never takes control of their bodies and only started to be more active when Zarc’s revival was imminent. She might have placed the girls next to the boys but she didn’t direct their actions otherwise Serena would be friends with Yuri instead of having no relationship with him at all like canon.
